Harvey is already in bed when Donna approaches the room after finishing her nighttime routine and getting a glass of water from the kitchen. His legs are stretched out, his back resting against the headboard, a pile of folders and loose documents sitting on his lap. It's not an unusual sight, not even on a Sunday evening like this. Harvey is a hotshot lawyer after all, who dedicates a major part of his life to his job, which includes working after hours and on weekends as well. And that didn't change since they started dating.

Albeit they in fact spent the first weeks of their relationship in a bubble, working only as much as absolutely necessary to have as much time as possible with each other. Especially the weekends were exclusively saved for them, spending the days completely in bed, making up for lost time.

But they both knew right from the beginning that it would not remain like this forever and that reality would soon catch up with them. They didn't even have to talk about it once because there just wasn't a question. It became second nature. Because this is just who they are. Because they both, after all, love their job and have no intention of changing anything about it. Quite the opposite, actually. They enjoy being even closer at work now, discussing cases in the morning or staying late at the firm to sit together and finish their respective jobs in each other's company.

Not that they don't feel the need to spend exclusive time without any work topics at all. They indeed do that and make sure to clear enough time for it. But with their jobs being the second most important part of their lives, they just automatically slid into a balance between work and personal life that perfectly suits them.

Especially for Harvey's job, being even more time-consuming, this also means taking some work home on a regular basis. This way he can finish it in the evenings or on the weekends in order to be perfectly prepared for the next workday with the benefit of being in their common home and having Donna around.

She would usually do some yoga, take a bath, browse fashion websites or sink into a novel during those hours, and they would both be perfectly fine with that. They even truly enjoy this kind of newfound domesticity. Something they've both been secretly dreaming of having with each other for years. Something they've never experienced in their lives with anyone else before. And something they wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

It even made Donna find out that Harvey wears reading glasses from time to time, only when his eyes are extra tired from staring at his laptop screen all day or when a headache is imminent.

"I must admit, these glasses look pretty hot on you," she states, joining him on the bed.

"I must admit, you look pretty hot," he throws her a seductive wink.

Donna rolls her eyes playfully but decides to not elaborate, knowing that he still has work to do. Luckily, they had sex earlier today, so she is able to resist his attraction for the time being.

"You have no idea how many times I have been dreaming about moments like this," she states as she gets some hand cream from a tube on her nightstand.

"Thought you were more dreaming about … sex or something," he smirks, quirking an eyebrow.

"Oh, I definitely was. But I was also dreaming a lot about small moments like this. Especially on days where I knew you had a bunch of work to do but sent me home already. I dreamed about staying with you, having you finish your work while we share a glass of wine and I read a book or just comfort you a little. This was my image of our everyday life together. And now it has become reality … you have no idea how happy this makes me."

"Maybe I have," he beams at her, squeezing her thigh. "And I guess it comes close to me dreaming of you bringing me coffee and simple stuff like that."

"Exactly. Stuff like that," she smiles, bending forward to kiss him softly.

"Maybe that's a good occasion to thank you," Harvey says, putting down the highlighter in his hand.

"For what?"

"For just taking me as I am. Since day one. You are the only person in the world who's always taken me as I am. You never tried to change me, you never questioned my mannerisms. I mean, of course we argued about things I did. We still do. But that's not what I mean. I like you putting me in my place," he chuckles and Donna grins. "What I mean is that you've always accepted me for who I was. You accept this," he motions to the paperwork on his lap, "you never complain about me working longer than anticipated – and I can be sure it's not because you don't dare to but because you just don't mind."

"No, I don't," she agrees. "We both love our job – so why would I expect that to change for you now? This here is all I ever wanted – sharing our lives, being with you in every way possible."

"That's exactly what I mean. And I love you for this more than you can imagine. For just being you. And taking me as I am."

"Harvey," she swallows, "are you trying to make me cry?"

"No, I'm finished for now," he snickers. "Come here." He reaches out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear and pulls her in for a loving kiss.

When they part, they beam at each other for a moment before Donna turns to her bedside table.

"Are you starting that new book today?" he asks.

"I am."

"Have fun then. I'm curious how you'll like it."

Both are absorbed in their activity for a few minutes before Harvey speaks again.

"Hey, any chance you've got a pencil in reach?"

"'Course, just a second." She opens the drawer and hands him three different pens.

He looks at her in astonishment.

"I'm Donna after all." She shrugs and he grins and nods. "Yes, you are."

He places another kiss on her temple before they both settle back into their reading.
