Ruby had to beg so hard to get her dad to rent the forge. It is possible she had to do a bit of guilt tripping to accomplish that, but that wasn't important. What was important was the fact that Ruby would be able to help Wynion understand the full weight of his consequences when he stole from people on the street when he didn't need to. By beating him up.

She did have the moral high ground, he wouldn't be unarmed… What was she saying? Maybe her dad was right, she really was hanging around her uncle (and Wynion) too much.

They had finally worked out the details, and now they had gotten started on making the weapon. Wynion kept getting distracted though. She should probably talk to him…

"Hey, Wynion?"

"Yeah Ruby?"

"What's uh… What's on your mind?"

Wynion didn't speak for a full minute.

"Ruby… You want to be a huntress right?"

"Yup."

"Isn't that a… dangerous job?"

"Yeah, but it's a job that lets me help people. A lot of people, and I get paid for it."

"Which is why you have Crescent Rose?"

Ruby frowned, "Uh, yeah? Why?"

"You have to fight, correct?"

"Wynion, if you are going to try to tell me not be a huntress-"

"No, no. That's… That isn't what I meant. I was just wondering."

"Wynnie, are you feeling okay?" She looked at her best friend concerned.

"Hey Ruby?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for… everything... "

"No worries! You can thank me by getting me something good for my birthday!"

"If I steal something, you're going to beat me up."

"Exactly! Yang was right, beating people up really is kinda therapeutic..."

Why was Wynion looking so distressed?

"But, I mean, your weapon is kind of going to be our birthday gift." Wynion smiled at that.

"Then let's make this the most awesome birthday weapon ever."

For once, he started the conversation.

"I've figured out what I want to do."

"Oh?" Ozpin leaned forwards, interested. The two of them talked over their respective soups. An interesting thing about Ozpin was that the places he took them to were never expensive or high brow. They weren't dumps either. He somehow found decent places without many people consistently. They never complained about the disheveled faunus kid eating either.

"Ruby has uh, well… Under the advice of her uncle," Wynion noticed Ozpin's wince of sympathy, "She decided to punish me for stealing a wallet during the time I didn't need to by hitting me with Crescent Rose, as hard as she can, while I have a weapon. So she isn't hitting an unarmed person."

"Oh dear, that does sound like Qrow. How does this factor into whatever you wanted to do though?"

"Well, I was kind of simplifying the situation. Basically, she wants to train me, but in an unforgiving way. Push me to my limits, that sort of thing. But that got me thinking.

Ruby wants to be a huntress. She's always taken care of me, helped me. She's my best friend, and my only friend. But being a huntress is dangerous, and one day, she'll need support- backup. I want to be there. I want to repay her for all she has done for me, so, uh… Since you are the headmaster-"

Said headmaster had burst into laughter. It was a bit irking, the only emotions Ozpin seemed to demonstrate were mild concern, or amusement.

"I'm sorry, hah, I'm sorry. It's just," The man regained control of himself, "I had been meeting with you, trying to come up with a reason to convince you to come to Beacon Academy-"

"I'm sorry? Did you say Beacon? I was going to ask you for a recommendation to a combat school..."

"Ah, well, I feel as though you would excel in the environment at my school."

An old familiar friend, silence, joined the table.

"So, you want me to go to your school like, now?"

"Obviously not, we still have one more to discuss."

"Are you ever going to tell me what it is that I have, if it isn't a semblance?"

"Yes, I thought that would be excellent."

"Finally… So tell me, what is it?"

"What's your favorite fairy tail?"

"Are you mocking me?"

"This is how I start the conversation on this topic, imagine my surprise when you used the same exact line."

"And what exactly is this topic?"

Ozpin told him in a hushed tone a tale of seasons and maidens. How they were granted powers by an old secluded man. And how they could summon the elements without the use of dust.

"That sounds exactly like the typical fairy tail. Far-fetched, and bullshit."

"And what if I told you that these maidens truly existed once upon a time?"

"Then I'm the future savior of mankind, and you've fucked a grimm."

Ozpin stared at him, deadly serious.

"Wait, do you mean it?"

Ozpin nodded.

"So, uh, if these maidens existed, what happened to them?"

Ozpin sighed, "They were hunted down, killed. Out of both fear and the hope of acquiring their powers."

The silence that fell upon the table was somewhat moody, though Wynion couldn't put his finger on exactly why.

"And how does this fit in to my semblance? Am I a maiden?" Ozpin raised an eyebrow.

"No, you are most assuredly not, but just like the maiden's, you too possess magical power. Instead of mastery over the elements, you carry the power to steal objects. However, magical power can evolve far faster than any semblance, giving the wielder a much wider array of skills, potentially."

"So that's why you want me to join your academy?"

"Not as a student of the academy, but as a student of mine. Not yet though. After all, you have some training to do. Although I imagine that convincing Miss Rose to continue your training will be the hard part."

"Huh? No. That's the really easy part. The hard part is staying alive."

"Best of luck to you then, Wynion."

Not gonna lie, I genuninely am facinated by hunter weapons. In the show, it is an extremely common tactic for huntsmen and huntresses to use the recoil as a boost in fighting. They use every inch of their weapons, making the tiniest adjustment changes a weapon and the fighting style drastically.

I was originally going to have Ozpin talk about the two brothers, but I forgot, so I wrote about him telling Wynion of the Maidens, but it explains the difference between semblance and magic well enough. Ozpin has no reason to tell Wynion the full story of the Maidens, and no reason to tell him that the Maidens are still alive.

Also, grammer. Ugh.

Beacon is next chapter. Finally.

Edit: Made Wynion's comment more appropriate for the events of RWBY. If you're curious, Wynion initially said that the headmaster was a moose in disguise. Not a faunus, but an actual moose.
