Chapter 5

February 2034

Sarah and Jason continued seeing each other under the watchful eye of both their parents. Jason would often hang out in Sarah's room, doing stuff in her computer or doing their homework together. Leonard and Penny was glad that Jason was courteous enough to stick to the bounds of his relationship with their daughter. Jason's sister would sometimes drive them to the mall on weekends and pick them up after sundown. Sometimes Sarah would ask her mother to drive them and pick them up if Jason's sister or mother couldn't come.

The young couple were walking down the street coming from Jason's house. They were holding hands and making small talk as they walk along the sidewalk towards her house.

"Hey I never thanked you for helping me out with my math homework." said Jason.

"It's alright." said Sarah.

"I guess you get bored with it sometimes huh?" Jason asked.

"Yeah. I've been doing it since I was like seven or eight that's why it's so easy for me." Sarah said.

"I remember when we watched you compete in that math contest against those kids from the other schools. You just blew those kids out of the water like it was nothing." Jason smiled at her.

"Yeah. My dad told me to go easy on them but my mom said to show them what I got." said Sarah smiling back at Jason.

"You should have seen those kid's faces. Its like they grew up without Christmas or something." Jason said as Sarah laughed at his comment.

They reached Sarah's house and she invited him in to watch TV in the living room. They entered the house and found her father, mother and brother in the living room, watching TV.

"Uh hi mom! Dad! Jackass!" she said to her parents and her brother with Penny and Leonard laughing at her 'jackass' comment. "What are you guys doing?" she asked sensing a little awkwardness.

Jason held her hand. "I have something to show you." Jason smiled as he pulled her into the backyard with the three following closely. They went out the door as Sarah saw a big box on the ground. "Open it." said Jason. Sarah looked at her parents and became visibly nervous as she slowly opened the top of the box. A puppy suddenly jumped out and climbed on her, licking her face.

Sarah screamed, laughed and cried as the puppy won't stop licking her face. "You got me a puppy!?" she asked Jason.

"We got you a puppy!" Jason said. Penny held onto Leonard's arm as they watch their daughter cry happy tears while laughing at the same time as she cuddled the puppy in her arms.

"Thank you mom! Dad! I love you!" Sarah said leaning her face on them while he couple hugged their daughter.

"Aww, you're welcome sweetie. William found this dog from the pet rescue center and told Jason about it." Penny said.

Sarah went to her brother and hugged him. "I'm sorry I called you a jackass." she said.

"Well, like father like son. Right dad!" said William.

"Damn straight!" said Leonard giving his son a fist bump while Penny rolled her eyes.

Sarah turned to Jason and hugged him tight and kissed his cheek. "You're the best boyfriend ever." said Sarah as the dog ran and jumped around their feet. She knelt down and picked the dog up. "What do we name him?" she asked Jason.

"It's up to you. Your brother told me what happened to Buster." Jason said.

"Yeah, he got old." said Sarah. "Why don't we call him Marty? You know, like Marty McFly from Back to the Future?" Sarah said.

"That's perfect. Like when Dr. Hofstadter gave me that test." said Jason.

Sarah picked up the dog. "Do you like your name huh Marty?" she cuddled the dog. The dog barked at them. "See that? He's so smart." Sarah said looking at her parents.

"Sweetie you have to train him to do his business outside the house alright?" Penny said.

"And you will clean up after him!" said Leonard.

"Alright I get it!" Sarah said. "Come on Marty, let's play in my room." she said then turned to Jason. "Oh, I don't need a boyfriend anymore, I already have a puppy!" she said to him. They were all shocked at what Sarah said as Jason froze, looking at her and never blinking his eyes. Sarah quickly pulled out her phone and took a picture of Jason then busted out laughing. "Ha! Ha! Ha! You should have seen your face!" she said pointing at her boyfriend. "This is gonna be my screensaver." she said looking at the picture on her phone.

"Aw come on!? That's not funny!" Jason said as Sarah pulled him back inside the house.

"Oh god!" Penny said, covering her face with her hands

Leonard shook his head and looked at Penny. "At least we know she really is your daughter." he said to his wife.

"Yeah. It really makes you wonder what she's capable of doing when she gets older huh?" William added as Penny hung her head and covered her face with her hand.

For the next couple of weeks, the young couple spent all their free time training Marty some basic tricks especially in doing its bodily functions outside the house. William helped Sarah and Jason in building a dog house from scrap wood planks they got from some of their neighbors so they wouldn't have to buy a ready-made one.

"See that Marty? Isn't he the best brother?" said Sarah as the dog sniffed his new home.

"Yeah. Now you owe me." said William, teasing his sister.

Sarah sighed. "Now I'm starting to regret this." Sarah said.

"Don't worry about it little sister." said William putting his arm around her shoulder.

"Thanks for helping out Will." said Jason.

"No problem." William said as Marty continued to explore his new house.

Leonard and Penny were standing at a distance, looking at the kids. Penny leaned her head on Leonard's shoulder as they watch the kids while they make the finishing touches on Marty's house. "Good job honey." she said to Leonard.

"For what?" he asked.

"For that." she said pointing at their children. "No matter how much they bust on each other, deep down they're still a team." said Penny.

"Yeah. Maybe because they're afraid of their mother going full-Nebraska on them if they don't behave." said Leonard.

"Yeah, that too." said Penny smiling at her husband. "I miss Buster." she added.

"Me too. Do you remember when we were in bed after sex and he just stood there by the door looking at us?" asked Leonard.

"Yeah. He looked so innocent. He must have thought we were fighting or something." Penny said laughing.

"If only that dog could talk huh?" said Leonard.

"I know. We would surely die of embarrassment." Penny said kissing Leonard's cheek.
