Wynion wasn't that rude, was he? He just didn't care about the two prospective students that much. Well, he was starting to warm up to Jaune, but had a feeling the opposite was occurring with Jaune's thoughts about him. Wynion hoped Ruby wouldn't get too disapointed by his actions.
"Hey guys! I found a cave!" He found Jaune covered by aura, looking at it in wonderment and Pyrrha looking a bit exhausted.
"You all uh… doing fine?" He asked.
"Nothing happened while you were away, it was quite uneventful." Pyrrha responded.
Both of them were eying him wearily. Guess he really was that rude. "I found a cave with hunter markings on it," He vaguely remembered that those markings had once been in Ruby's homework, "The relics may be inside."
Both of them followed Wynion in silence as he took them to the cave.
"I say we check." Wynion voted.
"Me too, ah wait! I'll make us a torch!" Jaune disappeared briefly.
"I think we should check somewhere else-" Pyrrha began.
"Well too bad, you've been overruled." Wynion interrupted her airily.
Jaune returned with a lit torch, "Let's go find us a relic!"
He felt the presence of grimm. Using his "semblance", he could feel the energy of the empty darkness all over the cave. Probably just residue from a pack of beowolves that rested here for a night.
"I'm not sure this is it…" Pyrrha commented as she and Wynion followed Jaune.
Jaune just sighed, "Pyrrha, I made the torch. Could you at least humor me for maybe five more feet?" Five feet later, he yelped and tripped into a puddle of water. The trio plunged into darkness.
"Do you feel that?" Pyrrha asked them.
"Soul crushing regret?" Jaune lamented.
"No, it's… warm."
"I don't know what you are talking about." Wynion replied, getting increasingly nervous. For some reason, the grimm energy hadn't dissipated. It was growing stronger…
The three of them moved deeper into the cave. The grimm energy was getting stronger. They rounded a corner, and up ahead the glow of something golden was revealed.
"That's the relic!" Jaune ran to the glowing thing to grab it.
"Hey!" The relic moved out of the way, "Bad relic!"
Jaune jumped on the relic, "Gotcha!"
Why are my senses smothered with grimm energy?
"Jaune…" Pyrrha called to him cautiously.
And then something glowed red. It was a grimm.
A big grimm.
Jaune screamed. It was a loud scream. It was a very disorienting scream. Wynion now hates screaming. Wynion is dizzy. Wynion is deaf. Wynion-
Pyrrha grabbed his wrist, "RUN!"
The cave was a blur as he did exactly that, used to dodging Ruby, he sprinted out of the cave slightly ahead of the gladiator.
The scorpion grimm burst out of the cave with a roar, a screaming Jaune hanging from it's tail in tow.
"AAAAAAAAHHHH! PYRRHA! WYNION! DO SOMETHING!" Jaune screamed.
The fighter and the thief prepared for battle.
"Jaune! Whatever you do, don't let-"
For the second time that day, a screaming mass of white, black, and blonde flew.
"...go." They both stared as he flew over the treetops.
"Pyrrha, go. I'll keep this thing distracted while you go and make sure your partner isn't becoming a chew toy for some ursa."
Pyrrha argued, "Wynion! You can't kill a deathstalker by your-"
"I didn't say I'm killing it! I said I'm distracting it! Now, go!" He lifted Ladrones, ready for combat.
She ran into the woods, leaving the pissed deathstalker and Wynion alone.
Oh god. I'm going to die.
"Nggh…" Pyrrha tripped as she ran to the group.
"Pyrrha! Are you okay?" Jaune stumbled to his partner.
"I'm fine… Looks like he couldn't distract it for long…" Everyone in the clearing heard the not so far off cries of an angry deathstalker. There were so many people here. Her sister, the ninja with the bow, the hyper girl with the hammer, the cool gladiator girl, Jaune, the mysterious guy with the pink streak in his hair, and… Weiss.
"Great! The gang's all here, now we can die together." Yang commented bitterly as she readied her gauntlets. Looking up at the nevermore circling them just as the deathstalker burst out of the treeline.
Ruby however, was not letting that happen. She was a hero, and even on the darkest day, heroes came through. "Not if I can help it." She reassured them with her determination. She drew Crescent Rose, and rushed the deathstalker. She fired behind herself, boosting off the recoil to prepare her mighty-
"RUBY!" Yang cried out to her as she was swatted aside. The red reaper had chosen the wrong approach.
"Don't worry! I'm totally fine!" She got up unsteadily, looking behind her to meet the eyes of the hissing deathstalker. She fired at it and retreated, running for her dear life. Suddenly, she came to a halt, discovering her cloak had been pinned.
She looked back to her sister, who was already running towards her. She wouldn't be in time. She couldn't do anything.
This was how she died.
Ruby closed her eyes and waited. She was scared, but this was it. It had been so stupid of her to attack it alone, and now she was going to pay the price.
As the deathstalkers tail came down on her sister, Yang prayed for the miracle she knew wouldn't come. But she couldn't do anything else, so she might as well. And for once, her prayers were answered. A streak of white rushed past her, Weiss. She summoned a chunk of ice, trapping the tail.
For a brief second, Yang hoped.
And then the ice shattered, the tail coming full force down at her sister.
But a second streak of white appeared, scythe out, cutting the nevermore's feather pinning her sister's cloak and tackling Ruby out of the way. Weiss immediately began freezing the deathstalker which got its tail stuck in the ground.
Yang waited for something else to go wrong. But nothing did.
The faunus kid got up and offered a hand to Ruby,
"Kid, you owe me ten lien."
Her red cloaked sister looked up at him, and ignored his hand.
No, instead she hugged him.
Silence fell for what seemed like a minute.
What…
Ruby glared at the kid- Wynion, "Why are you here so far from the city?"
"Why did you turn into a bigger idiot and take one a giant scorpion grimm all by yourself?" He smirked.
"Why are you playing hunter in a forest full of grimm?"
"Why did you become a hypocrite?"
"Why did you become a stupid jerk?"
"Why did you skip two years to attend Beacon?"
"WHY DID Y- wait… I haven't told you anything about Beacon yet…" Ruby trailed off.
Wynion pointed a finger at the great blonde, Yang Xiao Long, who had gone from extreme relief, to confused, to barely holding herself together at the spectacle.
"S-stop being annoying Wynnie!" Her sister, still hugging the faunus, started aggressively petting his ears. He folded and squirmed, trying to escape her grasp, but it was all for naught. To the amusement of everyone present, the ears flattened, and he let out a pathetic whine.
"RUBY! S-STOP Iiittt..." He protested under her assault.
This was enough to break the blonde, and the others who were watching from snickers to full on laughter. Yang didn't know what she felt about the fact that this Wynion guy she was originally going to have her sister meet was now her boyfriend, but she knew a few things. She looked over at Weiss, who had finished freezing the grimm solid. One of the things she knew was that now wasn't the time for their flirting.
"Okay, you two, break it up. You can have fun with your boyfriend after we're out of the woods." Ruby shot away from Wynion, who was reeling after her treatment of his ears.
"He'snotmyboyfriend!"
"Look, there's no sense in dilly-dallying. Our objective is right in front of us." Weiss interrupted Ruby.
"W-Weiss is right. We have two objectives." Ruby recovered from her embarrassment.
"Two objectives?" Blake asked.
"Our mission is to grab an artifact and make it back to the cliffs. There's no point in fighting these things." Ruby clarified.
"Run and live. That is an idea I can get behind," Jaune approved, "And the other?"
"To make sure the civilian," Jaune flinched for some reason, "gets back safely and unharmed." She glared at Wynion, who was coming out of his stupor.
"What civilians?" The guy in green (the hyper girl called him Ren) asked, concerned.
"Wynion." She pointed at the faunus in question.
"Hate to break it to ya sis, but he was at initiation, so I'm pretty sure he belongs here, unless he's some master criminal." Yang's comment made her little sister somehow glare harder at her boyfriend.
A cough from Ren drew everyone's attention.
"Time we get going." Ren advised, gazing at the deathstalkercicle, which had started to crack.
"Fine." She strolled up to the pedestal with Jaune, each claiming the last two relics for themselves.
"Uh, Wynion, you haven't gotten a relic or a partner…" Jaune noticed.
"I'll be fine, I'm getting graded differently from all of you after all."
"Wynion doesn't need a relic, he isn't a student. No more talking, let's go!" Ruby ended all discussion right there, and everyone followed her order as they ran to the cliffs.
The nine of them ran to the cliffs, making it to the ruins just below the cliffs. Ruby led the charge, with Wynion and Pyrrha at the back. They all took cover from the nevermore as it circled ahead. Before anyone could make a plan, the deathstalker burst from the woods behind them. It wasn't happy.
Everyone rushed forwards, away from the deathstalker as pink grenades sailed through the air.
"Go! Go! GO!" Pyrrha yelled, shooting at the grimm behind them as Ren and the girl with the black bow rushed to get on the bridge. It was then that the nevermore decided to go for a hit-and-run on the bridge, separating Wynion, Pyrrha, black bow, the strawberry blonde girl in pink (Nora probably) and Ren from the rest of the group.
Wynion took out Ladrones, and got to work. One of his favorite features was the detachable blade on a cable, the one he activated just now. He started swinging at the deathstalker from range, doing minimal damage. The bastard was extremely tough to take down, and Wynion hadn't mastered swinging Ladrones in this form-
"-NO NO NO!" Jaune's voice appeared behind him alongside another-
"NORRRRAAAA SMAAASH!" Nora yelled, announcing her appearance as she came down hard on the mask of the grimm, bringing down her hammer. Not only did she do that, but Wynion idly noted as he fought that she knocked the girl with the black bow over the edge, probably alongside all his chances to pass initiation.
The girls to his back were really causing destruction if the sounds were anything to go by.
"We gotta move!" Jaune warned everyone as the piece of the bridge they were standing on tilted backwards towards the abyss. The five of them advanced towards the grimm, and Ren jumped on top shooting at the stinger, with Wynion trying to distract it. Nora unleashed a barrage of grenades, and the deathstalker blocked with its pincers. As it stopped blocking, the gladiator and the thief threw their spear and launched their blade at the eyes of the grimm respectively. It knocked aside Wynion's strike, but not Pyrrha's as it met its mark in an eye. It hissed in pain, launching Ren from it's tail, who hit the side of a column, hard.
"REN!" cried out the hammer-wielder as Wynion noted another potential failure of this day.
"PYRRHA!" Yelled Jaune, indicating the deathstalker's now dangling stinger.
"Done!" She threw her shield, severing the stinger and dropping it on it's head.
"Nora, nail it!" Jaune ordered.
With delight, the girl grinned, "Head's up!" She boosted off of Pyrrha's shield, and Wynion could have sworn he heard a giggle as she smashed the stinger down into the deathstalker's head, with such force that it launched everyone from the bridge and back onto their side of the cliffs. The grimm shot down to the depths of the endless gap.
As they landed, Wynion noticed Ren stumbling towards them.
Hey, maybe this day won't be so bad after all…
Who promptly dropped to the ground, hopefully just exhausted.
Who am I kidding?
The rest of them turned back to the others, who were fighting the nevermore. To Wynion's surprise and relief, Blake was among them. Snow angel (he assumed that was the girl in white) trapped the tail of the flying grimm as Ruby prepared to launch at it, using black bow's ribbon and the fancy girl's glyphs. Ruby hooked her scythe around black bird's neck as she launched herself up the cliff, slicing clean through as she reached the apex, decapitating the nevermore.
Wynion and the others looked up at her in wonder.
Fucking amazing.
Summer... A few months ago...
"Glynda, I have news for you-"
"My goodness, where the fuck have you been?!" Ozpin winced at that, Glynda cursing was never a good thing.
"Calm yourself, I was calling-"
"GET THE FUCK BACK HERE! THE PAPERWORK IS PILING UP!"
"Glynda, please. I can expl-"
"DON'T 'GLYNDA PLEASE' ME YOU INSUFFERABLE LOST MAN CHILD! YOU HAVE BEEN MISSING WORK FOR TWO DAYS WITHOUT ANY NOTICE!"
"Glynda, something had come up, I shall be back shortly-"
"YOU BETTER!" The connection cut, as Ozpin sighed and leaned back. This was going to be rough.
Didn't feel like doing much for this time, I don't wanna explore either character, I wanna get this section over with.
If you can't tell, I am dying to finish Initiation. The fun parts are getting so close I can lick it. Ugh...
Of course, I'll be busy editing this before I can begin the school year at Beacon, but oh man... I just want initiation to be over. It makes me in pain to separate all these characters this much and be deprived of so much interaction.
Also, in case you are confused, no, Ruby and Wynion are not a couple (yet). But I mean, Yang has never seen Ruby this comfortable around anyone else but family so far, so her mind wanders there, y'know. I didn't mean to write Yang to be so bitter, but it does fit in with her character. She might not be as much as she will be later on, but I think bitter is still a trait she carries even now.
Fun fact: I was gonna name this story, "The Lonely Silver Wolf", after his full name, "Wynion Lupo" but I remembered how much Wynion hates his wolf features (I made it so that he even avoids mentioning all signs of the fact that he is a faunus in his pov except when necessary or on rare occasions) was a central part of the dude's character. So I had to change it, which I never got around to doing. I ended up with just "The Lonely Silver", and ditched Wynion's last name since it seemed apropriate. I might bring his last name back just for Goodwitch though, since she doen't adress students by first name. He won't be happy. :)
ALSO: I'm PUMPED AS HELL for the begining of Beacon. I'll finally be able to start rolling in the hurt/comfort stuff that was planned.
Hehehe... I'm DONE! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
