Episode 249: Kairi vs May
Last time, Kairi, May, Drew, and a woman named Savannah have all entered into a Pokémon Contest held in Rubello Town and it is classified as a R1 contest since it required a sum of one ribbon or more to be able to participate into the contest. In the process of training, Kairi's Stufful had evolved into a Bewear.
Sora had been training for his upcoming Gym battle to battle against the Fortree City Gym Leader Winona. During the course of the training, Poochyena, Electrike, and Aron had evolved into a Mightyena, Manectric, and Lairon. Also, the Spoink Sora had helped retrieve his pearl had caught up with Sora and intends on joining his team. Now, the Rubello Town Pokémon Contest is about to officially begin. Which one will walk away with that ribbon? Well, this chapter is going to answer that question, so enjoy!
We have a look with Riku, Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill when they stumbled upon a Team Magma operation.
"Riku, who are they?" Naminé asked.
"Judging by those uniforms, I'm gonna have to say that's Team Magma; one of the organizations Sora told me about," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"What are up to?" Naminé asked.
"I'm not sure, but it can't be good," Riku said.
"Rill," Azurill chirped.
Team Magma began to set up a device and a hologram of a red, black, gray, and white Pokémon with yellow eyes. It has white spikes on its tail and neck. It has white, sharp claws on both its hand and it also has white toes. It has a grayish underbelly. It has a large tail with three sharp, white spikes appearing on the left hand side and right hand side of its tail. A black pattern also goes along its body. The hologram transforms, becoming larger and has a deep, crimson body. The spikes on both sides of its body, tail, jagged teeth and underbelly are black, with the spikes on the tail becoming longer and facing diagonally, instead of being straight. The four blades at the end of its tail are now split. Its sharp claws on its hands and its claws on its feet remain pure white.Both of its hands has symbols of the Greek letter Omega glowing bright yellow. It looks like there's lava flowing through it's body.
"Is that what I think it is?" Riku asked.
"Vee," Eevee said.
"What is it?" Naminé asked.
"It's Groudon. A legendary Pokémon. When I was a little kid, I was told about how Groudon and Kyogre fought an epic battle that almost destroyed the entire world. That must have been its Primal Form," Riku explained. Eevee's ears perk up.
"Eev!" Eevee said, looking up.
"What's up, Eevee?" Riku asked. He got his answer when a red helicopter came flying in the area. It makes a landing. The door on the helicopter opens walking out is a tall, thin man with red chin length hair that curls outwards at the ends. He wore a black shirt and red shorts, and a black-red lab coat with Team Magma's emblem on both sides. He also wears a red suit under his clothes and red boots. He wore glasses with a Mega Stone located.
"Boss Maxie. Good of you to come," one of the scientists greeted.
"This better be good," Maxie said.
"I assure you, sir, it is. The surefire way to control Groudon and make the world into one huge piece of land is rapidly making its way towards us," the scientist said.
"I hope you don't intend to waste my time with the obviousness. As you know, I cannot control Groudon without the use of the Red Orb," Maxie stated.
"I have invented a device that should grant us the same kind of power to control Groudon. What we require is the power of magma to do so," the scientist said, putting on a demonstration. The machine begins to suck out some of the magma.
"What does he mean control Groudon? And what does an orb has to do with it?" Riku asked.
"You see, Maxie? It works wonders," the scientist said. Maxie was unphased and scoffs at the machine and his idea. "Do you suggest that we take out more?"
"No. What I suggest is that you get yourself committed into the funny farm. This is a waste of resources and a waste of time. The Red Orb is the only thing that can control Groudon. The more we waste time, the more Team Aqua is one step ahead of us," Maxie stated.
"What should we do, Boss Maxie?" One of the grunts asked.
"What do you think, you idiot? Keep searching for the Red Orb. And take out this worthless thing," Maxie said. The grunts took out Pokéballs and let out some Camerupt. They destroyed the machine, much to the scientist's dismay.
"Again with a red orb. What red orb?" Riku asked.
"I think Sora and Kairi should know about this," Naminé suggested. Riku turned to his girlfriend.
"We better find them right away and tell them," Riku said. They got up on their feet and Azurill accidentally sneeze, catching Team Magma's attention. "Crap."
"Eevee!" Eevee said.
"Spies!" One of the grunts exclaimed.
"After them! Bring them to me!" Maxie ordered. The Team Magma grunts began to chase after the couple. They let out several Mightyena and Camerupt to pursue them. Riku took out two Pokéballs and he let out a Ninjask and a Shedinja.
"Ninjask! Shedinja! Air Slash!" Riku ordered. Both Pokémon fired their attacks and they struck the pursuing grunts and Pokémon. Riku, Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill ran as fast as they could. Just when they were close to being caught, a a tall, thin young man with light blue eyes and teal blue hair that curls gracefully around his head came out of nowhere and he takes out a Pokéball. He wore a pair of long white pants, which are connected to his teal upper shirt, leaving certain spots near his belly bare. He also has a purple undershirt, which covers a part of his chest. He also wore green, transparent stripes from his shoulders and a small, ripple-edged white cape, as well as a pair of tri-bracelets on his arms. He threw his Pokéball.
"Milotic! Blizzard!" The man ordered. His Milotic fires Blizzard right at Team Magma and their Pokémon. He turned to the couple and their Pokémon. "Run now!" Not needing to be told a second time, they ran as Milotic ceases its attack and followed. The grunts and the Pokémon were too cold to keep going.
"Who was that?" One of the grunts asked.
"That was Wallace. He was the Sootopolis City Gym Leader. And that was his signature Pokémon, Milotic. I heard he's been looking into our operations lately," the second grunt said.
"Maxie must know about this. Wallace's interference shouldn't be tolerated," the third grunt said. They all called their Pokémon back and went to inform their boss. Riku, Naminé, Eevee, and Azurill all panted.
"That was close. Thought they had us," Naminé said, panting.
"They would have if this guy hasn't come along," Riku said. He turned to Wallace. "Don't know who are and where you came from, but thanks for the save." Wallace turned to the silver-haired trainer.
"You're just lucky I was around. What are you doing here?" Wallace asked.
"We could ask you the same thing," Riku said.
"I am not at liberty to tell. But you are. What have you heard?" Wallace asked.
"They said something about an orb. And that they plan to use it to control Groudon. That's what that one guy said," Riku explained. Wallace stroke his chin.
"Maxie," Wallace said. He looked right at Riku. "Anything else? Did they say anything else after that?"
"No. Thats about it," Riku said.
"We're very grateful for your help, by the way," Naminé said.
"You shouldn't get yourselves mixed up with Team Magma. Stay out of it if you know what's good for you," Wallace said, taking his leave.
"Wait! Who are you?" Riku asked.
"Just call me Wallace," Wallace simply said, before taking off. Riku and Naminé couldn't help but worry about what Team Magma has planned. They knew it wasn't good and they knew they couldn't let them do whatever they want. Also, they had to tell their friends that they saw their boss.
Deep in the ocean, a Team Aqua submarine cruises through the waters, making several Pokémon swim away from it. Many were Magikarp, Goldeen, Tentacool, and several pink Pokémon shaped like a sideways heart. Their mouth is located on the point of the heart. It has a lighter shade of pink on its lips and cheeks. Its eyes are small and black and blue. These Pokémon are known as Luvdisc. Swimmimg along the submarine are several Sharpedo. They scared away many of the fish Pokémon. Among them is a blue eel-like Pokémon. Its body is covered in circles, white in the middle and orange in the edges of the circle. It has orange fins covering it's body. It's tail ends in a round shape with two small fins protruding outwards. This Pokémon is known as a Huntail. Also there are several peachy pink Pokémon that is a very attractive Pokémon, said to resemble a mix between both a dolphin and possibly even a mermaid. Its mouth is a thin tube and has a pair of narrow fins, as well as two purple sea shells in the chest area, similar to a mermaid's attire. Another notable characteristic of the creature is two white stripes right before the tail, a whip-like structure with a purple disc attached to the end of it.It also has a thin dorsal fin which is tipped with purple. It is a considerably feminine Pokémon due to its color and eyelashes. There were also come Corsola, Mantyke, Remoraid, Qwilfish, and other sea dwelling Pokémon cowering in Sharpedo's presence.
Inside the submarine, is a tall, muscular man, who wears a blue bandana with Team Aqua logo on it. He also has black hair and a short black beard. He has a long moustache and a tan complexion. He wore a blue full body swimsuit that is slightly damaged around his left biceps, with a white area around his chest and light blue and white areas on his legs. He has a ragged black cape with grey stripes in the back, which is connected to the gold chains he wears around his torso. He has a Key Stoneis in his golden anchor necklace around his neck. Shelly came in his quarters and stood beside him.
"Shelly," he spoke. Shelly turned to him.
"Yes Boss Archie," Shelly responded.
"How is the search for the Blue Orb coming along?" Archie asked.
"The same as we started, sir. Ever since we lost the metorite back in Mount Chimney, we have been making progress. Although Team Magma's failure has been beneficial for us, but we're not any closer to retrieving the Blue Orb. Its current location eludes us even on this day," Shelly said.
"Then, we shall try even harder, Shelly. I trust you are aware of the mission I have for you, Shelly?" Archie asked.
"The Weather Institute. I believe that the information we need on the Blue Orb should provide a clue to where it might be located and how to use it," Shelly said.
"You always know your stuff, my dear. I know you will come through for me, unlike Matt or the others," Archie said.
"I'll gather up some of the grunts and set off for the Weather Institute as soon as possible," Shelly said. Archie always had high expectations of Shelly and he knew he picked the right person to one of his admins for Team Aqua.
Back in Rubello Town, the Rubello Town Pokémon Contest was about to begin. Lisia had been asked to be the judge for the contest. Sora, Max, Pikachu, Angel, and Spoink were sitting with Sandra and the other members of the MFP members dressed in cheerleader outfits. Vivian had taken the stage and Contesta, Mr. Suziko, and Lisia had taken their seats. Lisia is wearing her idol outfit when she met Sora, Kairi, May, and Max.
"Welcome to today's contest, everyone! Because this is a level R1 contest, every Coordinator must have at least one ribbon! So, you're going to see some top-notch contestants competing here today! Right now, let's introduce our panel of three judges. Starting with our head judge Contesta!" Vivian announced.
"Hi Vivian," Contesta greeted.
"Mr. Suziko, the president of the Pokémon Fan Club," Vivian introduced.
"Glad to be here today," Mr. Suziko said.
"And last and certainly not least, we have a special guest judge! She is the niece of the former Sootopolis Gym Leader and holds the mantle of Contest Idol, Lisia!" Vivian announced.
"I am hoping all of our contestants will come out and have some fun here!" Lisia stated, putting on a smile.
Lisia's fan club were cheering uproariously for Lisia even though she wasn't participating.
"We love you, Lisi!" One of her fans said.
"As always, I'm your contest host Vivian!" Vivan announced as the crowd started to cheer.
Back in Pallet Town, Kairi's familiy along with Togetic, Raichu, Abra, Machop, Tyrouge, Magby, Elekid, and Smoochum were watching along with them.
In the backstage, Savannah had noticed how calm Kairi and May were being.
"Kairi, May, you're being so calm in this," Savannah pointed out.
"I know I'm going to do fine, so I'm going to give it my all out there. How about you, May?" Kairi asked.
"Well, maybe that's because I've done this in a few times now," May said.
"That too," Kairi said.
"I'm so nervous, I can't remember my own name," Savannah said, blushing.
"You just need to relax, Savannah. It's kinda like riding a bike. Once you get started, you won't forget it. Turst me, I know from experience," Kairi said.
"I guess coming on top of the Poké Maiden Tournament can rub off on us, Kairi," May said.
"It was the first tournament I have ever entered in my whole life. I had Sora with me all the way, and I know I have Sora with me now," Kairi said. Savannah was moved by how she talked about her boyfriend.
"You are so lucky to have such a supporting boyfriend, Kairi," Savannah said.
Drew was listening to the whole thing and just smirked.
"The winner today will be honored with the one-of-a-kind Rubello Ribbon! Our first two contestants are stage and set to go!" Vivian announced.
Kairi had entered the stage. On TV at home, Kairi's family and Pokémon were thrilled to see her competing.
"Go for it, Kairi! Make us proud!" Yuuta cheered.
"Abra!" Abra cheered.
"Raichu!" Raichu added.
"Magby!" Magby added.
"Smoochum, Smooch!" Smoochum also cheered.
"Starting up is contestant number one, Kairi! What kind of performance does she have in store for us today?" Vivan asked. Kairi threw her Pokéball.
"Take the stage, Milotic!" Kairi called out. Her Milotic makes an elegant appearence. Kairi's family and other Pokémon were astounded by how Kairi has the world's most beautiful Pokémon.
"Oh my, so beautiful," Kairi's grandmother said.
"I'll say," Mirei agreed with her mother. Tyrouge and Machop looked at her with hearts in their eyes.
"Machop!" Machop said, lovestruck.
"Rougue," Tyrouge said, also lovestruck.
"Milotic! Begin with Dragon Dance!" Kairi ordered. Milotic does a majestic dance around the stage.
"Milotic begins with a lovely Dragon Dance!" Vivan announced.
"Now use Breaking Swipe!" Kairi ordered. Milotic swings her tail around in such a beautiful manner. The audience were moved by how elegant Milotic was moving. "Wrap it up with Hydro Pump!" Milotic fires Hydro Pump straight into the air, turning her into a fountain. Everyone were gasping with awe and amazement.
"And Milotic wraps up its performance with a beautiful Hydro Pump! Let's see what the judges has to say," Vivian announced. The judges all gave her a perfect ten, bringing it up to thirty. "And it's a perfect score!"
"Milotic's Dragon Dance was so dazzling. I never seen anything like it in my whole career," Contesta said.
"That Breaking Swipe was remarkable," Mr. Suziko said.
"And that Hydro Pump finish was the icing on the cake. Very dazzling," Lisia said.
Sora smiled, feeling proud of his girlfriend once more as the MFP members were doing a cheer for Kairi.
"You never fail to wow the crowd, Kairi, not even me," Sora said, smiling lovingly at her.
Outside the Contest Hall, Takuya, Koji, Koichi, JP, Zoe, Tommy, Mime Jr., and Munchlax were watching and they were amazed by the fact they just saw Kairi in a Pokémon Contest and the fact she has the world's most beautiful Pokémon. Zoe especially was moved as Mime Jr. and Munchlax were falling in love.
"Beautiful," Zoe could only say.
"Lax," Munchlax said.
"Mime," Mime Jr. said.
"Wow, Kairi is a pro in this," Takuya said.
"That's what Matt and TK said when she battled their mom and won the Fallarbor Contest," Koji said.
The contest went on as May was up next. She entered the stage with her Pokéball in hand.
"Up next is contestant number twelve, May from Petalburg City!" Vivian announced.
"Okay Beautifly! Come on out!" May called out. Her Beautifly flutters around upon entry. "Use Morning Sun!" Beautifly flies at the center of the stage and brights up the stage with sunlight. The crowd applauded for May's performance. "That was great! Follow up with Silver Wind!" Beautifly flaps her wings and does a dazzling Silver WInd.
"You could do it if you try! May and Beautifly!" The MFP members cheered.
Once May's peformance was done, Savannah had come up to her.
"Oh May! That was Great! You were awesome!" Savannah said.
"Thanks Savannah. I know you're going to great job out there, yourelf" May said.
"Me?" Savannah asked, feeling nervous again. It was now Savannah's turn.
"And now its contestant number thirteen, the local girl, Savannah!" Vivian announced.
"Finally, she's up," the woman with the green hair said.
"I am so excited," the woman with the red-orange hair said.
"This calls for the perfect cheer," Savannah said. The MFP members got into their cheering positions.
"Who's got it going on? Who's got a Flareon? Yeah, she's such a slam up! Yeah, she's a jam up! You don't have a chance against Savannah!" The MFP members cheered.
"You go get 'em, mom!" Sandra cheered. Savannah was pretty nervous. Vivian walked up to her.
"That was your cue, dear," Vivian told her.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Savannah said, blushing and taking out the Pokéball containing her Flareon.
"Embarrassing," Sandra said.
"Your mom does look a little nervous, Sandra," Max said. Kairi is watching backstage.
"Keep your cool, Savannah," Kairi said. Savannah shuts her eyes.
"Here goes then," Savannah said under her breath. She opens her eyes, full of determination. "Flareon! Let's do it!" Her Flareon makes a dazzling appearance. "Use Fire Spin and then Flame Charge!" Flareon fires Spin and then uses Flame Charge to go through the Fire Spin like a lion going through a hope of fire. "Now use Swift and then Flamethrower!" Flareon fires Swift first and then followed up with Flamethrower, making the stars, burn in beauty..
"That is quite an impressive dispay! The feiry reds and yellows are just beautiful! A very creative attack combination!" Vivian announced.
"I hate to toot my own horn, but I was the one who came up with the idea of that combination," Sandra said.
"And what a combination it was, Sandra," Sora said, laughing.
Once Savannah's part was over and done with, Kairi and May were proud and impressed by Savannah's display. Up next was Drew. The MFP members were going crazy for Drew.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the final entry for the first round of the Rubello Pokémon Contest is about to make his way! Let's all hear it for Drew!" Vivian announced. he crowd were wild for Drew.
"Drew we love you! Win the ribbon for us, Drew! Drew over here!" The MFP members cheered. Spoink was confused by how they were cheering for Kairi, and then May, and then Savannah, and finally for Drew. He takes out his Pokéball and threw it.
"Roselia! Petal Dance!" Drew called out. Roselia makes an entrance doing a Petal Dance all around.
"Incredible! Instead of a Pokémon emerging from its Pokéball, Drew has produced an explosion of flower petals! I never seen anything like it! Thousands of flower petals are raining down on the crowd!" Vivian announced.
"Wow," Lisia said.
"That is beautifully unique," Mr. Suziko said.
"And uniquely beautiful!" Contesta said. Drew snaps his fingers and Roselia comes right out.
"And out of the flower petals, Roselia appears! What a magical glorious arrival to the stage!" Vivian announced.
"That kid is even more impressive than I remember," Yuuta said.
"Do you think Kairi might end up battling him again?" Kairi's grandmother asked.
"If she is, then I can bet that pretty boy is going to be in for quite a surprise," Yuuta said.
"Time announce the finalsts for the second round! The decision of the judges states that the four will be, Drew, May, Kairi, and Savannah!" Vivian announced.
"We made it!" May said. "Way to go, Savannah!"
"You too, May. I'm really happy for you," Savannah said. She turned to Kairi. "And I have to say, it's a thrill to be in the finals with you, Kairi."
"Glad to hear it, Savannah," Kairi said.
"So far, so good!" The woman with the green hair said.
"Yes, Kairi, May, Drew, and Savannah!" The woman with the red-orange hair said.
"This is so exciting!" The woman with the red hair said.
"I knew you were going to make it with that perfect score, Kairi," Sora said.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Spoink! Spoink!" Spoink said.
"Alright there, everyone! Our computer will now select the pairings for the second round pairings!" Vivian announced. THe computer had selected Kairi against Drew and Savannah against May. May and Savannah gasped when they saw they were up against each other. Kairi wasn't surprised to see she was up against Drew like when she won her second ribbon.
The finalsts took the time they had to prep up their chosen Pokémon. Drew was confident that he was going to win over Kairi to make up for the last time. Kairi had to keep her game face and her poker face on since she was up against Drew once more.
"I know Drew has been looking forward to this. He is expecting my best and thats what he's going to get," Kairi said. Sora, Pikachu, Angel, and Spoink went up to her.
"You nervous, Kairi?" Sora asked.
"Not in the slightest, Sora. Drew thinks he might find it easy," Kairi said.
"Yeah, but you shouldn't either. I know how strong your Bewear is, and Illima's Bewear was nothing to sneeze at. Masquerain is a Flying Type, so watch your step," Sora said.
"Is there anything else, Sora?" Kairi asked. She got her answer when Sora kissed her on the cheek. She giggled at the gesture. "I'll take it."
"Go out there and do what you do best," Sora said.
A few minutes later, the second round of the Rubello Town Contest was about to begin. Kairi and Drew entered the stage.
"The second round of the Rubello Pokémon Contest is about to begin! The time limit is five minutes and each Coordinator will try to take as many points as they can before time runs out. And the Grand Festival rules states the Pokémon is to be different than the one that was used from the first round. Now, let's begin our finals with Kairi and Drew!" Vivian announced as the clock starts running. Drew takes out a Pokéball and threw it.
"You're up, Masquerain!" Drew called out.
"Go! Bewear!" Kairi called out and her Bewear stomps onto the battlefield. "Bewear! Use Focus Blast!" Bewear forms a ball of energy and hurls it right at Masquerain.
"Dodge it, Masquerain!" Drew ordered. Masquerain flutters up, but got hit by Bewear's attack. Drew lost a huge sum of points.
"Bewear must have put a lot of focus into that Focus Blast! Kairi's Bewear had to be well-trained to pull that off!" Vivian announced.
"Masquerain! Use Quick Attack!" Drew ordered. Masquerain darts towards Bewear, but the strong arm Pokémon bounces the eyeball Pokémon off. Drew lost a few more points.
"It looks like Bewear barely felt that," Contesta said.
"Now use Mega Punch!" Kairi ordered. Bewear lands a Mega Punch onto Masqureain, causing some heavy damage. "Follow up with Mega Kick!" Bewear lands a Mega Kick, dealing in more damage. "Now one more Focus Blast!" Bewear forms a ball of energya and hurls it right at Masquerain and it was enough to finish off Drew's Pokémon. Drew was in shock to see that he lost the battle to Kairi again. The clock had been ran down to thirty seconds. Savannah and May were stunned to witness it.
"And it's Kairi who won in a half a minute!" Vivian announced. "Bewear's Mega Punch, Mega Kick, and Focus Blast had taken all of us by surprise!"
"I can't believe Drew lost!" The woman with the green hair cried.
"Kairi had been spending some time training Bewear. She did have more experience in battle than Masquerain did," Sora said.
"Bewear may be cute in appearence, but Bewear is a force to be reckoned with! And Kairi is moving on to the final round!" Vivian announced.
Kairi's family were proud of her for winning over Drew again. Togetic, Raichu, Machop, Tyrogue, Elekid, Magby, and Smoochum were all impressed by Bewear's strength since evolving.
It was now May and Savannah. Savannah was nervous about battling May, but she had to remain calm.
"And now, round two of our Rubello Town Pokémon Contest is May and Savannah!" Vivian announced.
"I'm going to give it everything that I have," May said, taking out her Pokéball and threw it. "Bulbasaur! Let's go!"
"I'm counting on you, Lairon!" Savannah called out. Both Pokémon entered the fray.
"Liaron! Take Down!" Savannah ordered. Lairon charges right at Bulbasaur with a full force of its body.
"Dodge it, Bulbasaur!" May called out. Bulbasaur avoids Lairon's attack and Savannah lost a little bit of points.
"Use Razor Leaf!" May ordered. Bulbasaur fires Razor Leaf right at the iron armor Pokémon.
"Lairon! Use Metal Claw!" Savannah ordered. Lairon came at Bulbasaur with Metal Claw to swipe at her.
"Bulbasaur! Block with Vine Whip!" May ordered. Bulbasaur blocks Lairon's Metal Claw with Vine Whip. Savannah lost a ittle bit more than May when she blocked.
"Bulbasaur blocks Lairon's Metal Claw with Vine Whip! What could May be planning?" Vivian asked.
"Use Petal Dance!" May ordered. Bulbasaur fires Petal Dance and it covers Lairon with flower petals.
"There are so many flower petals, Lairon is having a hard time keeping an eye on its opponent!" Vivian announced.
"May is doing great down there. She's doing way better than when she practiced with Riku," Sora said.
"She did do some more practicing since then," Max said.
"Come on, mom! You can do it!" Sandra called out.
"Lairon! Plow through with Take Down!" Savannah ordered. Lairon plowed through Petal Dance. May waited for Lairon to get closer.
"Perfect! Bulbasaur! Vine Whip now!" May ordered. Bulbasaur smacks Lairon with Vine Whhip and deals heavy damage. Lairon was down and out and the time was at one minute and fifty-nine seconds.
"And moving on to the final challenge is May!" Vivian announced.
The crowd goes wild as May had won it. Savannah didn't feel about losing, but Sandra and the other members of MFP were disappointed that she lost, but they knew she did her best.
"That was a good battle, May. It brought back some memories," Savannah said.
"You too, Savannah," May said.
Kairi smiled and went up to the two of them.
"You both should be proud of your Pokémon. You never gave up on them and they never gave up on you," Kairi said.
"That means a lot coming from you, Kairi. I want you to know that I gotten pretty strong when I decided to enter Pokémon Contests," May said.
"I don't doubt it, May. Don't expect me to go easy on you just because we're friends," Kairi said.
"Wouldn't drem of it, Kairi," May stated. Both girls locked hands, promising each other a good battle. The stage was set for the two of them to go at it.
"And now it's time for the final round! It's May against Kairi! Only one of these two is going to earn that ribbon. And we're about to see which one it'll be!" Vivian announced.
"I know how tough Bewear is, even before evolving. Kairi is expecting me to give it everything I've got, so she better be careful what she's asked for," May said in her thoughts.
"Now, won't our two finalsts please let out their Pokémon?" Vivian asked. Kairi and May each took out a Pokéball and threw it. The clocks starts running.
"Go! Bewear!" Kairi called out.
"Come on out, Bulbasaur!" May called out. "Bulbasaur! Tackle! Let's go!" Bulbasaur charges towrds Bewear with a full force of her body.
"Bewear! Low Sweep!" Kairi ordered. Bewear uses Low Sweep and gave Bulbasaur a kick, making her trip all over herself. May had lost some points. "Now use Focus Blast!" Bewear reates a ball of energy and hurls it right at the seed Pokémon.
"Bulbasaur! Dodge it!" May called out. Bulbasaur avoids Bewear's Focus Blast.
"Bulbasaur dodges Bewear's Focus Blast with such speed! And that's going to cost Kairi some points!" Vivian announced.
"Not bad, May! Let's see how long Bulbasaur can keep it up. Bewear! Focus Blast!" Kairi ordered. Bewear fired a barrage of Focus Blast right at Bulbasaur. The seed Pokémon kept dodging Focus Blast. May thought Bewear's size would make her slower, but she found out the hard way that she's faster than she expected. One or two of the blasts struck Bulbasaur and May had lost some more points.
"May's Bulbasaur can't seem to keep dodging Bewear's Focus Blast barrage!" Vivian announced.
"Can't keep dodging forever. I'm going have to try a little offense. Bulbasaur! Razor Leaf!" May ordered. Bulbasaur fires Razor Leaf right at Bewear and it struck her on the spot. Kairi had lost some points and the timer is now three minutes and twenty-seven seconds. "Now use Vine Whip!" Bulbasaur smacks Bewear with her attacks. Kairi loses some more points.
"Now it's Bewear that's taking a licking! Could May be making a comeback?" Vivan asked.
"Vine Whip, one more time!" May ordered. Bulbasaur uses her Vine Whip to strike at Bewear, but she caught it in her paw. Kairi and May were taken by surprise by Bewear's action.
"Looks like Bewear had stopped Bulbasaur's Vine Whip just by grabbing it!" Vivian announced.
"Pull Bulbasaur towards you!" Kairi called out. Bewear does pull Bulbasaur towards her. "Now use Mega Punch!" Bewear lands a Mega Punch onto Bulbasaur. May had lost some massive points.
"Bewear struck at Bulbasaur with a massive Mega Punch! May is going to have a hard time with Kairi's Bewear!" Vivian announced.
"Bulbasaur! Tackle!" May ordered. Bulbasaur charges towards Bwear with a full force of her body. The clock runs down to one minute and fifty-five seconds.
"Less than two minutes are remaining," Max said.
"I knew she was going to last much longer than Drew did. May must have given her Bulbasaur a special kind of training," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Spoink," SPoink said. Spoink was watching the battle closely and was amazed by how both opponents were giving it everything they had.
"Bulbasaur! Petal Dance!" May ordered. Bulbasaur fires Petal Dance right at the strong arm Pokémon. Kairi wasn't going to have that.
"That trick won't work on me, May! Bwear! Focue Blast! Aim at the ground!" Kairi ordered. Bewear aims at the ground and fires Focus Blast and it makes a hole right in front of Bulbasaur. She goes flying into the air. May was stunned by what she saw.
Backstage, Drew, Savannah and the other Coordinators were watching, knowing it could go either way.
"May's lasted much longer than I did, but that's because she just got lucky," Drew said in his thoughts.
"Both of these girls are going neck to neck. It could go either way with thirty seconds remaining!" Vivian announced.
"Bulbasaur! Razor Leaf!" May ordered. Bulbasaur fires Razor Leaf right at the strong arm Pokémon.
"Dodge it!" Kairi called out. Bewear steps aside to avoid Bulbasaur's Razor Leaf, costing May a little bit of points. "Now use Mega Kick!" Bewear starts to run towards Bulbasaur. The clock is down to ten seconds. 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. TIME! The clock ran out before Bewear could land the finishing blow.
"And time's up! Kairi wins the Rubello Town Pokémon Contest! Congratulations!" Vivian announced. Back at Pallet Town, Kairi's family and Pokémon were happy and proud that Kairi had won the contest. May sighed, feeling disappointed that she lost. Bulbasaur went up to her trainer.
"Don't feel bad, Bulbasaur. You did your best. I just had a great time battling, even if it's against Kairi," May said. Kairi went up to May with a smile.
"You did good, May. You're way better than I thought you would be," Kairi said.
"Thank you, Kairi. I had a great time battling you. Next time won't be the same," May said.
"No, it won't," Kairi agreed.
With the contest over, Kairi is presented the Rubello Pokémon Contest Ribbon.
"Now Kairi had earned her fourth ribbon and needs one more ribbon to be moving onto the Grand Festival!" Vivian announced.
"Way to go, Kairi!" Sora said.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Spoink, Spoink!" Spoink said. Sora turned to Spoink and the boounce Pokémon turned to Sora.
"So, what it'll be, Spoink? You want in?" Sora asked.
"Spoink!" Spoink nodded.
The bounce Pokémon leads Sora and Pikachu outside, leaving the Coordinators confused.
"In what?" May asked. Kairi giggled.
"Let's just say that Sora decided to give Spoink an initiation," Kairi said. Lisia could only smile. Drew, the MFP members, and several of the Coordinators went outside with Sora along with Kairi, Angel, Vivian, Lisia, Contesta, and Suziko to witness it. Sora turned to his partner.
"Go for it, Pikachu," Sora said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said, getting into position for battle. Spoink starts up by firing Psybeam.
"Pikachu! Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu avoids Psybeam and lands a hit onto Spoink. Spoink wasn't calling it quits as he fires Power Gem right at the mouse Pokémon. "Use Quick Attack again to dodge!" Pikachu avoids Spoink's Power Gem by running. "Now use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu fire Thunderbolt and shocks Spoink. The bounce Pokémon ends up being paralyzed. Sora takes out a Pokéball and threw it. It struck Spoink, making him flow inside it. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Everyone watching were wondering if it was going to be a successful catch. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokédex starts buzzing asking him if he wants to keep Spoink or send him to Professor Oak's lab. He chose to keep Spoink in exchange for Beldum. "Welcome to the team, Spoink!"
A lot of the people watching were amazed by witnessing a battle between Coordinators and Sora for catching a Spoink.
That night, Savannah had treated them to a meal before taking off for Fortree City. Kairi had let out some Pokémon food for all of the Pokémon
"Again, congratulations on your win, Kairi. I knew you were tough, but you were more challenging than I thought," May said.
"I gotta admit, you almost had me, May. You're iproving so much since your practice battle with Riku," Kairi said, making her smile. She turned to Savannah. "You did great too, Savannah."
"Thank you. Just the same, I had a lot of fun," Savannah said. Her daughter turned to her mother.
"But aren't you bummed out that you didn't win, mom?" Sandra asked. Savannah turned to her.
"Of course, I would have loved that ribbon. But then, I didn't want it SO much that I would take for granted the one ribbon that I already have," Savannah said, looking at the one she already had. "It always remind me of my very firt victory. This ribbon is proof of how well my Pokémon did. And how Flareon and Lairon and I worked together. And now, I'm happy just thinking about that perfect day! Not wheter I win or lose this time."
"You're right. The ribbons Kairi and I won are proof of how well our Pokémon did," May said. "And now, I'm going to work on to be the best Pokémon Coordinator I can be." Kairi smiled.
"Spoken like a true Pokémon Coordinator," Kairi said.
On the very next morning, Lisia had gotten a call from her mother in Sootopolis City, telling her that she needed to come home for some sort of crisis. The Contest Idol knew something had to be wrong. She had to tell her friends that she had to head off home.
"Are you sure you can't stick with us a little while longer, Lisia?" Kairi asked.
"I'd like to, but my mom told me it's a family emergency, so I have to be there. But I'm sure we can see each other again when you get there," Lisia said.
"You too," Sora said. Lisia called out Ali and flew to Sootopolis City. Sora and Kairi could only hope everything was alright. May and Max went their own way as did Sora and Kairi. Savannah, Sandra, and the rest of the MFP memebrs were seeing Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel off and wishing him luck for his Gym battle.
So, what does Team Aqua have planned at the Weather Institute and what sort of secrets could they contain? And does Team Magma plan to interfere in their hated rivals' ambition?
