Chapter 39
"So...how did it go?" Leonard asked as Penny and Sarah came through the front door. The two women kept quiet as Leonard looked at them knowing immediately that Sarah's first driving lesson didn't go well. "That bad huh?" he asked as Penny sat beside him, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"I don't want to talk about it." said Sarah before going upstairs to her room.
Leonard sat up and looked at his daughter as she went upstairs before looking at his wife. "What happened?"
"I kinda yelled at her...and almost ripped her head off." said Penny.
"Why did you yell at her?" asked Leonard.
"We almost hit someone...can you believe it?" Penny said.
"Oh my god! Really!?" said Leonard, unable to believe what his wife said.
"Maybe it's better if we enroll her to a proper driving school...you know those cars that has an extra brake pedal for the driving instructor?" said Penny.
Leonard pulled her close and kissed her cheek. "Don't worry, I'll take her out tomorrow and teach her myself." he said.
Penny gave him a stern look. "Honey...I don't think it's a good idea."
"Relax honey...I'm her father and it's my job to teach my children these kinds of stuff." he said before standing up to talk to her daughter upstairs. "And besides...we both know what a wonderful driver you are!" he said sarcastically before turning around and going upstairs.
Penny quickly grabbed a pillow and threw it at her husband. "Jackass!" she yelled.
"I love you too honey!" he yelled back, smirking a little bit. He came up to Sarah's bedroom and knocked on the door. "Honey? I'm coming in alright?" he said, slowly opening the door and seeing his daughter on her desk, doing some stuff on her computer. "How are you doing?"
"Why did mom have to give me everything she has?" said Sarah.
"What do you mean?" Leonard asked, pulling a chair and sitting beside her.
"I even got my driving skills from her...what is wrong with me dad?" she said, frowning and bowing her head.
Leonard pulled her close and hugged her. "Nothing's wrong with you honey...look at me...it's perfectly normal to not get it the first time." he said, reassuring the young lady.
"Mom kinda lost it...she almost ripped my head off." Sarah said.
"Yeah...she told me...but don't worry, we'll go out tomorrow and I'll teach you how to drive." he said, making the young lady excited.
"Really...you'd do that?" asked Sarah.
"Of course...I'm your father and it's my job to teach you these things." he said.
Sarah gave her father a tight hug. "Ugh! Thank you dad!" she said. "I promise I'll do better." she added.
Leonard kissed her cheek. "Good...now let's get back down there and help your mom in the kitchen." he said, pulling her off the chair and leading her out of the room.
Penny looked at her husband and daughter as they joined her in the kitchen to prepare dinner. "Sorry mom." said Sarah, hugging her mother.
"I'm sorry too sweetheart...I never should have yelled at you." Penny said, hugging her daughter back. "Now let's eat, I'm hungry." she said.
"Okay mom." said Sarah as they sat around the table to have dinner.

The next day...
"So?" Penny asked as Leonard came into the house and sat beside her on the couch.
He leaned his head back and took his glasses off before massaging his temples. "I think you're right." he said.
"What?" asked Penny, having a slight idea of what her husband meant.
"We should put her in a proper driving school...with a proper instructor." Leonard said as Sarah came inside, going straight to her room upstairs.
"Did you yell at her too?" asked Penny, giving her husband a curious look.
"No...but she kinda slammed the car into a tree." he said, laughing a bit.
"What!?" Penny exclaimed. "Are you hurt or something?" she asked, putting her hands all over him to check for any injuries.
"That tickles!" he said. "Relax honey, we're okay...it's just a small bump on the front of the car." he said.
"Oh my god...now I'm worried for her." said Penny.
"Don't worry honey...at least she was able to get the basics before we went home...she just needs a little more practice." Leonard said.
"Okay...I just don't want you guys getting hurt or something." said Penny as she leaned back on her husband, putting her hand around his arm.

Later that night, Leonard and Penny were in the living room watching TV when Sarah came in, carrying a food tray with few cups on it.
"What's that?" Leonard asked as Sarah put the tray down on the coffee table.
"I made some tea." she said, giving a cup to her father.
"Aww...this is so nice...thanks honey!" said Leonard, taking a sip from his cup.
"Thank you sweetie...this is so nice." said Penny, taking a cup from her daughter.
"I'm sorry for giving you a hard time dad." said Sarah, taking her own cup.
"It's alright honey...we'll go out again tomorrow so you can practice more." he said. "Just take it slow and you'll be fine." he added.
"Thanks dad...I'm sorry about the car." said the young lady.
"Don't worry honey...you can pay me back when you get a job." he said, making Penny laugh.
"What? I have to pay you back?" asked his daughter.
Leonard smiled and gently squeezed her shoulder. "Don't worry honey...we'll just put it on your tab." he said.
"Fine." she said. "Why do you guys hate me?" she asked, making the couple laugh a bit.
Penny pulled her close and kissed her cheek. "We don't hate you sweetheart...we just like having fun with you." she said.
"That's not fun." said the young lady.
"I'm sorry honey...I promise we won't do it again." he said. "Now why don't we get some sleep...you still have your driving practice tomorrow." he said, standing up and pulling his wife to follow him. "You clean up here okay?" he told his daughter.
"Yeah sure." Sarah said.

After a couple weeks of practice driving with her father, Sarah was able to drive safely on her own under the watchful eye of her parents.
"I'm so proud of you honey." said Leonard as they waited in line along with the other applicants in the DMV. "Now all you have to do is pass the test...both written and practical." he said as they fill up the application form.
"Don't worry about the written test dad...you're talking to a genius here." she said as she stood in line to submit her papers to the lady at the front desk.
"Okay...now pay attention." he said, telling her to stay in line.
After a few minutes and paying the fee, the DMV lady gave Sarah a test paper and told her to go to the examination room. "I'm gonna go in there dad." she said.
"Okay honey...I'll wait for you here." he said as Sarah went into the examination room, joining the other applicants.
After almost thirty minutes in the examination room, Sarah came out having a smug smile on her face. "I told I'd ace it." she confidently said.
"Okay...no need to get too cocky...now all you have to worry about is the practical test." he said, tapping her on the shoulder.
"Just relax dad and I promise you'll be surprised." she said as they exit the DMV office.
Leonard laughed a bit. "Okay honey...whatever you say." he said.

"I'm so proud of you honey!" Leonard said while hugging his daughter.
"I told you I'd pass the practical test." Sarah said.
"Good job sweetheart...I'm so proud of you!" Penny said, hugging her daughter.
"Thanks mom." said Sarah, thankful for her parent's affection.
"Hey I have an idea!" said Leonard.
"What is it dad?" asked Sarah.
"Why don't we dress up and go to dinner tonight? Celebrate a little?" said Leonard, making his girls excited.
"Really?" asked Sarah. "You're gonna take me and mom to a nice dinner?"
"Yeah sure...I mean, we haven't done that in a while right?" he said.
Penny pulled her daughter's hand to go upstairs. "Come on sweetheart, let's pick out what we're gonna wear tonight." she said.
"Ugh I'm so excited! Mom, can I borrow some of your makeup?" said the young lady.
"No problem sweetie." said Penny, laughing a bit at how her daughter gets excited in dressing up.
After almost two hours, the girls came downstairs, all ready for their night out. Leonard saw them and was impressed at how beautiful his wife and daughter was. "Oh my god! You guys look amazing!" he said, kissing his wife on the cheek.
"Thank you honey...you look handsome too." said Penny, fixing Leonard's suit and tie.
Leonard then held his daughter's hand, looking at her from head to toe. "You look perfect honey." he said.
"Thanks dad." said Sarah. "Where are you taking us anyway?"
"I made a reservation while you two were getting ready upstairs." he said. "Now come on, we have the whole night ahead of us." he said as he held Penny's hand towards the driveway.

They arrived at the restaurant after thirty minutes.
The girls were impressed at how fancy the restaurant was. "Honey...this place is so fancy." Penny said as a waiter led them to their table.
"Nothing is too fancy for my girls." he said as he took the chair, letting his wife sit.
"Hmm...such a gentleman...I think someone wants to get lucky tonight." Penny said, teasing her husband and making Sarah scrunch her face.
"That is so disgusting." said Sarah. "Why do you guys have to ruin the mood every time?" she added, making the couple sit down on their seats.
"Okay fine...we'll stop now." said Leonard as a waiter came to their table, giving them the menu while another offered them some wine.
"Some wine sir? Madam?" the waiter said, showing the wine bottle to the couple.
"Yes please." Penny said. "Thank you." she added while the waiter poured their drink.
"We also have some non-alcoholic wine...for your daughter." the waiter offered to Leonard.
"Yeah sure...why not?" he said, making Sarah smile as the waiter brought over the non-alcoholic beverage for her.
Leonard lifted his glass to toast with his girls. "To the DMV and Sarah's driving license...and may she stay safe on and off the road!" he said, making his girls laugh.
"Amen to that!" Penny said.
"Thanks for this dad...this is so nice." said the young lady, giving her parents a lovely smile.
Leonard then noticed something from afar and excused himself. "You guys stay here...I'll be back in a second." he said, quickly standing up and walking away. He came back after half a minute carrying two stems of roses, giving them to his wife and daughter. "Honey, this is for you." he said, giving a rose to Penny before kissing her cheek. He did the same to his daughter, kissing her cheek.
"Thank you honey..." said Penny, touching her husband's hand.
"Thanks dad..." Sarah said while smelling the rose.
"You're welcome...I just want to make my girls to feel extra special." he said as they order their food while the waiter wrote it down on his small pad.
Their food arrived after fifteen minutes with Leonard getting a fish dish while Penny and Sarah got some beef and chicken dish with a veggie salad and some appetizers on the side.
"Wow...this looks delicious." said the young lady, getting a whiff of the dish's aroma.
"Well...there's only one way to find out!" he said as they start eating while sharing stories with each other.
The family was almost done eating when Leonard pulled out an envelope from his suit and gave it to Sarah.
"Dad...what is this?" she asked.
"Open it and find out." he said as Sarah hurriedly opened the envelope, finding a couple of gift vouchers for a nearby mall. "I figured you could use that to buy a new dress for your graduation...and maybe a new pair of shoes..." he said making Sarah stand up and hug her father.
"Thank you daddy...I love it!" she said, unable to hide her excitement of shopping for shoes and dresses.
"That is so nice honey..." said Penny, happy at how close her daughter is to her husband.
"Oh you think I forgot about you?" Leonard asked his wife as he pulled out another envelope, giving it to his wife. "I wouldn't want my wife to be left out wouldn't I?" he said making Penny giggle as she saw the same gift vouchers in the envelope.
"Really?" Penny asked.
"Of course honey!" he said. "I just want my girls to have a good time." he added, making Penny kiss him on the lips.
"I love you so much!" Penny said before sitting back on her chair as Sarah pulled out her phone to start browsing on it. "What are you looking at sweetheart?"
"I'm gonna get this one!" said Sarah, showing her a picture of a pair of shoes she likes.
"That's cute!" Penny said, giggling with his daughter at their love of nice shoes. "Don't worry, we have all day of shopping tomorrow." she added.
"Are you gonna come with us dad?" Sarah asked.
"Of course he's gonna come...who's gonna carry our bags if he's not there?" Penny said, making Sarah laugh out loud.
Leonard rolled his eyes and threw his hands in the air. "Unbelievable!" he said.
"Aww...don't be mad honey...I thought you're being a great husband and father to me and your daughter?" said Penny, giving him a sly look.
"I am a great husband and father." he said proudly. "Right honey?" he asked his daughter.
"You're great dad." said Sarah, making her father smile.
"See that? Our daughter thinks I'm great!" he told Penny.
Penny moved closer and pulled him in for a quick kiss. "Hmmm...you are great honey...so great." she said.
"So gross." Sarah whispered, giving her parents a disgusted look while drinking her non-alcoholic wine.
After eating and having some more wine and letting the food settle in their stomachs, they decided to go home. Sarah volunteered to drive making her parents cut her off with a resounding 'No!'.

They arrived home shortly with Sarah going directly to her bedroom to sleep while the couple did the same as Penny hurriedly pulled her husband into their bedroom.
"What are you doing?" Leonard whispered.
"Shhh...we have to be quiet." she said as she started to take off his clothes. "Now it's your turn to get lucky." she added, giving him a lovely look.
"Hmmm...you always know what I like!" he said while putting his hands around her and starting to unzip her dress.
"Of course...you're my husband...and I'm your wife..." she said before stepping back and letting the dress fall off from her body, revealing her sexy lingerie to him. "Well...what are you waiting for...sailor?"
Leonard immediately felt goosebumps all over his body as Penny hadn't used that word on him for a long time. "Oh you're really gonna get it little miss." he said pulling her close and kissing her lips while leading her onto the bed.
They hurriedly crawled under the covers as they shed the last pieces of clothing they had, feeling their excitement building up as they made love like they did a thousand times before.
