Chapter 13

DPOV

After leaving Roza at the hotel we split up and started to search for any hint that might lead us to Robert Doru. It helped that I knew the language and despite the messed up situation I was really glad that of all places this Doru character had decided to hide out in Russia. I had missed my country greatly and Moscow was actually not that far from Baia, my hometown. Maybe after everything was over me and Roza could go meet my family.

I chuckled internally at that thought, taking down an army of strigoi? No problem, but meeting my family and specially Yeva, my grandmother? Yeah, I was pretty sure that Rose would be feeling a little scared about that. Nonetheless, I was certain that they would adore her and would be very happy I had found someone.

We started by checking out hospitals and psychiatric wards, since we knew that the more spirit on used the crazier that person got there was a good possibility that our spirit user had ended up there.

"Excuse me," I said to the woman that was sitting at the front desk looking bored.

"Yes, is there something you need help with?" She said looking up from her computer.

"Yeah we are looking for a man named Robert Doru, could you please check your records and see if he could be here?"- I asked.

"What's your relationship to this patient?

"Um, he is friend of ours that we are looking for."

"I'm sorry sir but unless that you are family I can't disclose any information about patients."

I was trying to figure out how to get this receptionist to give us any information when Lila muttered. "Let me try something" under her breath.

"You don't need to check for any information about us," She said in a luring voice. Almost as she was trying to compel her. I was about to tell her that there was no way that would work again when I glanced at the receptionist, who had a glazed look.

I don't know if I should.

Just look up the records we need, and then don't tell anyone we were here, it is no big deal.

"Yeah, it's no big deal." The receptionist said, starting to type something in her computer.

I was dumbstruck, not yet able to understand how Lila had just compelled someone if she was no longer strigoi.

It says here that there was actually one Robert Doru admitted in the facility, but he checked out two months ago, and there are no relatives listed on the released certificate. That's weird." The Receptionist said. "Wait, it does say that he was liberated to a person with the initials V.D." She flipped over the screen so we could take a look.

That's weird, how could someone take a person from a mental ward and not be required to give out credentials or something?" Lila asked

"Probably because someone didn't want anyone to know that Robert Doru was out, or why he was taken. Someone with a lot of connections and money."

But who?" She inquired. I tried to think about anyone that would want to get him out. It had to be someone that knew Doru's unique abilities and more importantly knew him personally to be able to find him and get Doru to go with them.

I think I know what the initials might stand for, who that person might be, someone who needed a spirit user that desperately, Victor Dashkov.
