Chapter 26

Previously

In the arena Genma was inching closer to Naruto "Did you really have to do that"

"He messed with my girlfriend what did you expect would happen" Naruto answered getting a contemplative look from Genma. He started to retreat to the contestants box. A ninja suddenly appeared and whispered something into Genma's ears whose eyes widened as they talked in hashed voices. After a while Genma cleared his throat as he announced

"We are going to take a 10 minute break. Due to some changes it has been decided that the exam will be a survival match. This means winner of the first match will go on to face number 3. The winner of that match will face number 4 until we have a last man standing"

"WHAT THE HELL"

Now

Naruto looked at Genma which a shocked expression. Seriously a survival match in an exam. That's so messed up and this smelled very fishy. If he had to guess the council and Orochi-pedo overruled the Hokage on this one. Well it wasn't a problem for him but if it was anyone else they would be in trouble. Well better play along.

"You are kidding me right" Naruto asked Genma who shook his head. Naruto then turned with an unreadable expression towards the box were the council was.

"Alright who's bright was it to make such a stupid contest. Step forward so I can super Hashirama your ass" Naruto shouted while he brought out a super-sized wooden 'you know what' and started waving it around. The shinobi council quickly pointed to the civilian council and the elders who in turn paled. Being violated by such a huge thing was no fun that's for sure.

With the Genin

"Sensei how is this a fair exam. Obviously the one who goes last will be able to showcase all his skills since he is still fresh" Chouji asked having abandoned his bag of chips when Neji was violated.

Asuma just looked at his student. "It's not fair that much I can tell you. I don't know why they came up with this sick idea. From what I can tell they want to see if a genin can fight for a long period time. Remember in the real would it's not always a one on one battle. Sometimes you will fight opponent after opponent or many at once. So they are trying simulate the same scenario and see if a genin is efficient enough to conserve his chakra, stamina and weapons." Asuma explained. It was a plausible theory but

"Or they could be trying to buy time until the Uchiha can get here and give him the best slot" Kurenai chimed in. Okay so maybe Kurenai's theory was more believable otherwise they would have announced it in the first place.

Back in the arena

Naruto rested 10 minutes, not that he needed the rest, while he planned his next move. Okay for Neji he used taijustu and a little bit of sealing so what to use next. He could just use the same tactic but that would depend on his opponent. He would use some of his skills but not reveal his most powerful ones unless the situation calls for it. If he had to guess he would be taking on Shikamaru since that Dosu guy was not around. Sasuke was conveniently moved to second last with Gaara being last. And sure enough Genma called Shikamaru to the match.

Naruto just prayed that Shikamaru would be too lazy to fight. Shikamaru was having an internal debate on whether to go and fight or forfeit. He was too lazy to fight so he decided to forfeit. But a frying pan came out of nowhere (Captain America style) and knocked him into the arena (how the hell did that happen).

In the stand you could see Yoshino Nara smiling evilly. "If you quit Shika-chan I will make your life a living hell" she said as she reinforced her threat with a scary dark aura. This forced all those close to her to quietly move away from her.

Shikamaru just sighed as he looked at the beautiful clear blue sky. It seems his fate was sealed whether he liked it or not. But while he was there he was thinking 'this is a nice place to nap. Maybe after this is done I will come here again'.

Naruto vs Shikamaru

He got up as he made his way to where Naruto and Genma where. He stood opposite Naruto with a bored expression which was mirrored by Naruto. Both looked like they were about to fall asleep so Genma decided to start things off by announcing the match then he jumped back.

"You know what dude I am bored so lets make this quick. You don't want to be here and I also don't so why don't you quit and save us the trouble" Naruto said in a bored tone.

"Well I would but as you can see my fate is sealed" replied Shikamaru gesturing to his scary mother.

Both sighed "Troublesome" both said.

Shikamaru then started things off by throwing a volley of kunai at Naruto who jumped away dodging them. As Naruto jumped away Shikamaru quickly made hand signs for his family jutsu launching his shadow straight at Naruto. The strategy was to capture Naruto as soon as his feet touched the ground.

Well it didn't work. Naruto replaced himself with a log when he saw the shadow almost upon him. He appeared a few feet away from the Nara genius. Well Shikamaru was serious with this match it seemed.

["Wow ladies and gentlemen we have started the match on a high note. Look at the genius of the Nara. But I do have a question though. If Nara men are too lazy then how does the Nara clan repopulate?"] commentator Naruto asked with a confused look.

["Why don't we ask this guy right here"] Anko said as she revealed a tied up Nara head who was trying to say something but was gagged.

In the stands Inoichi and Choza looked at the place where their friend was only to find him gone. "When did she…" was all they could say.

["So man come on tell us how you guys do it. Do you just lay there looking at the clouds which the girls ride you or what"] Anko asked with a grin on her face making the Nara head try to look away with a blush on his face.

["Ehhh since they are lazy wouldn't that mean they would be too lazy to make Nara junior stand at attention?"] commentator Naruto asked again. Well everyone who heard that nodded their heads. Just how do these people procreate anyway? Most people turned their heads to the Nara clan waiting for answers. Oh that's not the kind of attention one would want.

["Don't worry boys and girls enjoy the fight while we extract information from this guy HEY WERE ARE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING"] shouted a grinning Anko as she saw the Nara head worming (literally since he was tied up from head to toe) his way away from them. Said man's eyes widened as he saw he was found out. He renewed his efforts to worm away even harder which was futile. The poor man was dragged away by a grinning Anko.

Back to the fight

Shikamaru had tick marks popping on his forehead at the jab thrown at his clan. Oh Naruto was going to pay. He had already strategized what he would do. First make sure Naruto doesn't make any clones. He heard this from his sensei when he asked about Naruto's skills. Second make sure he stays as far away from Naruto's kunais as possible. Lastly push him either into the forest or the shadowed part of the arena.

As for Naruto he had finally figured out what he was going to use. Oh this was going to be fun. But first he has to play along to make it not look suspicious. Naruto tried to pull some Kunai from his pouch but he was stopped by Shikamaru who threw some kunai with exploding tags at him.

Naruto abandoned his idea as he was forced to jump away from the explosion. More explosions followed Naruto as he was forced to jump away towards the stadium wall.

In the stands

"What's the brat doing he should have had this match over before it even began!" Zabuza ranted not understanding why Naruto didn't just use his superior speed to end the match.

"From what I can tell he wants to make this exam a memorable one like with the Hyuuga" D Naruto replied already knowing what Naruto was planning.

The rest of the stadium erupted into cheers as they saw the Nara heir having the demon brat on the ropes. They hoped that the brat would loss this time.

Back to the match

Naruto saw that he was being pushed to the wall which was shadowed so he made sure to start dodging parallel to the wall making sure he was a few feet from the wall. Big mistake. He found himself frozen in place.

"Shadow Possession justu complete" said Shikamaru with a smirk. He honestly couldn't believe that Naruto was that stupid to provide him the opportunity to trap him. What Shikamaru did was use the smoke from the explosion to send his shadow to the shadow created by the wall increasing his reach. Since Naruto was focused on the ground because of the smoke he didn't see what Shikamaru did.

Or so he thought.

Anyway Shikamaru forced Naruto to walk towards him all the while debating on what to do. But he came to the conclusion of forfeiting the match citing that he was out of chakra.

"So you got me huh" Naruto commented.

"It seems like it. I did a lot of research on my possible opponents so I knew that if I gave you an opening I would be screwed" Shikamaru said. He could already hear people cheering for him as if he had already won.

"So that's the famous Nara intellect I heard so much about. Impressive" Naruto complemented Shikamaru making him smile.

"But you made a huge mistake. You thought you had me figured out but it was the other way around. You Naras are so used to dealing with ordinary or smart ninja that you underestimated me big time. You didn't take into account that you were dealing with a fox, a trickster" Naruto said with a smirk. This alarmed Shikamaru as he felt that something was wrong.

"You are still trapped with my justu so there is no way you can win and you didn't even have time to create clones so" Shikamaru said while trying to find out what Naruto was planning. It could be a trick to force him to release his justu. But a part of Shikamaru was still very suspicious of the way Naruto was caught.

"Oh the shadow. Your intel was good but you forgot that I am a sensor. I could sense your jutsu in the shadow of the wall. Plus look behind you" Naruto said. In a poof of smoke two pebbles turned into two Narutos making Shikamaru widen his eyes.

"When"

"When you were busy using exploding tags you gave me all the cover I needed. I mastered the clone and transformation jutsu so it was easy to make clones and transform them in a second" Naruto said. Shikamaru sighed he had lost. He was outwitted by the class clown of all people. Only option was to quit but there was one problem. He couldn't move or speak for that matter. What the hell.

"Hijack jutsu complete" Naruto said in his mind as he could hear the 9 tails giving him some ideas which were surprisingly pretty good. So what happened was the moment Shikamaru's shadow made contact with him Naruto activated the hijack justu. He delayed its effects on Shikamaru but he had essentially taken control of Shikamaru's chakra through the shadow connecting them. Which means Naruto can control a Nara using said Nara's shadow. How ironic.

'What the hell I can't move or speak' Shikamaru ranted in his head as he saw Naruto smirk then he realised. The bastard let himself get caught on purpose.

Everyone in the arena was surprised when the Nara heir got quiet all of a sudden. They were even more surprised when Shikamaru started scratching his ball following Naruto's example. This was followed by a round of the Nara heir doing a lot of intense exercises much his horror and the excitement of two green clad ninja.

After that Shikamaru was then subjected to the most embarrassing dancing ever. Commentator Naruto started playing 'Everybody dance now' to which Naruto started dancing the silliest dance ever (If you have see Super Fast then you can picture the dance I am talking about).

In the stands

"How is this possible? This is impossible no one can reverse the Nara justu like this" exclaimed a shocked Hiashi who just returned from his talk with Neji. He had his Byakuugan activated so he saw everything.

"What do you mean Hiashi" said an equally shocked Nara head who escaped from Anko.

"Your justu works by capturing opponents using you shadows. Through those shadows you then project your chakra on your victims and make them do what you want. But here it's the opposite. Instead of Shikamaru projecting his chakra onto Naruto it's the reverse" explained the Hyuuga.

Everyone was shocked at this. To be able to reverse the Nara justu on them was a fit unheard of. This was the first time this has happened and a lot of people were starting to see Naruto in a new light. Whoever trained him had to be amazing because it was clear it was not Kakashi since he couldn't do something like this. The other genin were left dumfounded. The class clown not only beat Neji but did something considered impossible. What else is Naruto capable of.

'Kukuku good Naruto-kun (Naruto shivers) show me what you can do. This is the reason why I manipulated that stupid council to do the exams this way. I want to seem more of what you are hiding' guess who had this sick train of thought.

The 3rd and Jiraiya who was hiding were also surprised by this display of skill. It seems Naruto had grown stronger without their help and it was all thanks to their mistakes. The 3rd felt proud and ashamed at the same time. Proud of Naruto's accomplishments and ashamed that Konoha didn't help him get this strong. As for Jiraiya well he was jealous of whoever trained Naruto. The brat was very strong that was undeniable and HE didn't train him. He wanted to make him this strong but he doubted he could train his to this level. No matter he will train Naruto and that's a promise.

Yoshino Nara on the other hand was having a blast.

"Yah go Shika-chan shake that money maker" she shouted while holding money in her hands like she wanted to throw it at the dancing Shikamaru. Her friends just sweat dropped. You see it was Yoshino that put Naruto up to this if he ever faced Shikamaru to get him to be more active.

After humiliating Shikamaru along with some humiliating commentary from our two commentators Naruto let Shikamaru go. He could hear his family cheering for him especially Eri. The little sprit just makes him want to show off even more she is just so cute. Zabuza and Shiro plus Kurama were shouting for more entertainment which oddly enough a lot of foreigners were also craving for. Miya and Kaguya were quiet but their banners said otherwise.
So Naruto waited 10 minutes for his next victim and after the 10 minutes the wind mistress stepped into the field. Okay she was going to be a pain in the ass since she was a long range specialist. But he already had a plan in mind to stop her without revealing much of his powerful justu. Those were saved for the invasion.

Naruto vs Temari

There was no prefight barter or insults shared the two opponents just stared at each other with Temari gripping her fan tightly. Okay maybe this wasn't going to be fun for him. He had already showed a lot about himself and the girl was not going to underestimate him. She was most likely going to open with a wide scale wind justu to keep him away which means he was going to be craftier than usual and use his superior speed to outrun her jutsu.

Genma decided to start the match and jump away which was a good thing because the moment he did Temari quickly opened her fan and blasted a strong wind jutsu at Naruto. Naruto used his speed to get away from the path of the destructive justu. Looking at the trail of destruction he could tell the girl was serious from the get go and she had started off with three moons too.

Temari didn't give Naruto time to appreciate her handy work. She fired more justu at Naruto forcing him to go as far away from her as possible. The kunai Naruto threw at her she blocked with her jutsu making them useless. Well they were just ordinary kunai after all.

Naruto on the other hand was dragging the fight as he tried to find a way to end the fight. A fire jutsu wouldn't do because they would suspect he can use elemental jutsu which Orochimaru already knows. The only thing he could thing of right now was sealing which they all now know he could do. All he needed to do was one simple distraction and the match was over.

Temari used another wind justu again this time it held an amazing amount of cutting force. The jutsu tore the ground and some tree branches as it made its way towards Naruto. Naruto countered by throwing an exploding kunai which had enough power to cancel the jutsu and create a smoke screen. When the two met in the middle a violent explosion erupted stopping Temari's justu.

Temari however had learnt from Shikamaru's mistake because the moment the explosion occurred she launched another justu at Naruto whose eyes widened when he felt the jutsu coming at him. The justu destroyed the ground where he was standing and you could see some poofs of smoke signalling that his transformed clones were destroyed.

"I am not going to fall for that trick you know" Temari exclaimed with a smirk as she was standing near the position Shikamaru was standing before.

"Yah I can see that. That was smart of you by the way but there is only one problem. Do you really think that I created only two clones when I fought Shikamaru" Naruto also said as he folded his arms.

Temari's eyes widened when she realised that she was standing in the position Shikamaru was previously occupying where the two clones sprung from. She turned around ready to defend herself only to find no one.

"Seriously you fell for that. And I told you in advance that I am a trickster too" Naruto said as he threw a kunai at her. Temari only had time to use her fan to try and block what she thought was an exploding clone all the while berating herself for being too careless.

She blocked the kunai but then she heard a poof of smoke from behind her. What the hell. From behind her came a clone that threw a kunai at her and held a single hand seal. She cursed in her head. He had effectively tricked her. He made her think there were no more clones when in fact there was one waiting for her. That's one tricky bastard. In the stand Shikamaru was smirking as he knew he wasn't the only one out foxed by the fox.

Temari only had enough time to dodge the kunai as she prepared to counter the explosion with her fan and lessen the damage. Naruto just smirked. Time to field test jutsu number 2. This was his own personal justu which he created. He simply mumbled "Sealing arts: Restraining order"

Ropes of chakra shot out of the kunai and wrapped themselves around Temari rendering her immobile. The whole stadium froze at the scene even Naruto. For the second time women covered their children's eyes while the 9 tails was having a blast and so were Shiro and Zabuza.

In the stand

"I am going to murder that brat" shouted a makeup and cat suit wearing ninja who was trying to avert his eyes from the scene but failed miserable.

"Oh my I think this is going to be a thing for Naruto" said Miya as she tried to cover her giggles.

"Well at least we know it only happens to women right girls" Kurama said with a grin as she looked at Haku and Hinata who were blushing like crazy thinking of the times Naruto tested that on them. Zabuza went ballistic when he saw THAT happen to his beloved daughter.

"You are kidding me right. Tell me I am not seeing things" Sakura said as she rubbed her eyes. Ino just nodded not bothering to say anything because she was at a loss for words. The blushes on the girls didn't help either. Kurenai was planning so many ways to kill Naruto.

The stadium then erupted in cheers together with whistling mainly from the man who had nosebleeds as they clamoured for more.

The 3rd was not doing any better. Between wiping the blood from his nose and restraining himself from shouting ANCORE he was really in a tough spot. Jiraiya almost blew his cover because of his own nose bleed. But what both agreed on was that Naruto really grew in strength and skill especially in sealing. That seal was A rank in their own opinion.

Back in the arena

Poor Genma didn't know what to think but the nosebleed told everyone what he was thinking.

["Oh hell yah gentlemen now that a show for you all"] commented a very happy Anko who looked an embarrassed commentator Naruto who had no comment.

"Not again. I thought I fixed that problem" Naruto said while he rubbed his forehead as he tried to think of a way to calm the pissed off girl.

"Hehehehe I knew you had bondage fetish running in your blood. You know what they say like mother like son" the 9 tails bellowed in laughter. This was so entertaining. Naruto just blushed in embarrassment.

So what happened was that when the seal was deployed it tied up Temari in the most interesting way. Bondage style (just come up with an image in your mind I can't describe that stuff). The ropes were snuggling on to her body showing off her budding figure and boobs. The poor girl was blushing in embarrassment and anger at the same time.

"Sorry about that but the seal has a mind of its own. I swear I tested it on guys and it worked well. Please don't be angry with me" Naruto pleased.

"Release me and we will talk about it" Temari said with venom laced in her voice.

"Quit first"
"Okay I quit" and with that Naruto won his second match. As Naruto released the girl she lashed out at him trying to murder him. Naruto had to run for his life from the angry girl around the arena. After 15 minutes of running the girl finally gave up but was planning on getting back at him.

The next match was between Naruto and the cat suit guy but he quit before the match even began. Even Naruto's combined with Anko and commentator Naruto's taunt couldn't get the guy to come into the match so he won by forfeit.

Next was the match with Shino. To say he was surprised when Shino requested a no justu match was an understatement. He had nothing against Shino and Hinata liked him as a team mate. So the went for taijustu and Naruto was impressed. Very few Aburame were well versed in taijustu and Shino was doing well. What was even more impressive were the weapons hidden in his coat. Shino really impressed the judges with his display even though he lost.

Naruto gave Shino some training tips and encouragement. He suggested he see Anko and Gai to which both were very happy in their own ways and this made Shino start to reconsider. Lastly Naruto gave a thumps up to Kurenai. It seems that she took his advice to heart and put a little diversity into her team's skills.

Next match was a shocker. Since Dosu was not there he was automatically disqualified from the exams. So the last match was made into a triple threat match were Naruto would square off against Gaara and Sasuke. This was a suggestion from the Kazekage.

What Orochimaru wanted to see was how Naruto could handle another jinchuuriki and a Sharingan user. His interest was already peaked and he wanted to see more. The boy was superb at ninjustu and taijustu then he showed his skill in sealing and strategy made him even more desirable. So Orochimaru decided then and there if Naruto survived he would mark him too.

Gaara stepped into the arena but Naruto knew immediately something was very wrong with him. The last time they met Gaara was somewhat a bit less crazy after their talk but now he was crazier than usual. His chakra was going haywire rapidly mixing with Shukaku's. He was essentially like a rabid dog waiting to be unleashed. Even the 9 tails cautioned him to deal carefully with Gaara. What the hell happened to make him this way?

Genma felt uneasy when the sand kid entered the arena. The kid looked like he wanted to murder someone and he looked crazier than when he was in the preliminaries. There were a few times Genma almost reached for a kunai. He was worried for Naruto since he was fighting from the beginning he would have to be exhausted. And then there was the Uchiha who hasn't shown his face yet. He really wanted to get as far away from the sand kid as possible.

In the stands a disguised Kabuto smirked when he saw his medicine starting to take effect. The boy was changing after his encounter with Naruto which wouldn't go well with their plan. So he slipped a little bit of medicine into his food to make him go nuts. The Bijuu in him can't counter it since Orochimaru tested it on the 8 tail's jinchuuriki a while back.

"Eh so where is the Uchiha?" Naruto asked.

"As you can see he is not here" Genma replied as he chewed on his senbon.

"So does that mean he is disqualified and I have to fight the crazy nut job because he seems to want to fight right now" Naruto said while looking at Gaara who was very edgy.

"Mmmh well I guess so" Genma said as he was about to announce that Sasuke was disqualified but the Kazekage asked for Sasuke to be given 5 minutes. This annoyed both Naruto and Genma while it displeased a number of Shinobi and pleased the civilians and VIPs.

"Are you kidding me! You had no problems disqualifying that sound guy who is not here so what makes this one so special that you give him extra time. Mind you this is an international exam we follow the rules set by all the villages" Naruto ranted.

"Hey don't look at me I just follow orders" Genma shrugged.

Naruto just huffed but his point was put across as you could see people starting to reason among themselves on how unfair it is to give others special privileges during the exam. As the people were arguing among themselves Sasuke and Kakashi arrived in a shunshin of leaves. Sasuke had changed his clothes and he was making a cool pose making his fan club go crazy.

Most of the crowd however didn't share that sentiment. They outright 'Booed' him surprising Sasuke and Kakashi. Kakashi just laughed nervously.

"Are we late"

"Yes but you are very lucky your boy didn't get disqualified. Now please get out of here so that we can get this over with" Genma said in an annoyed tone. Kakashi just laughed dismissively as he told Naruto to come with him.

"He stays too Kakashi. Because you saw it fit to come late you missed a lot of things so don't ask. Ask those in the stands will you" Genma said as he turned to the last three contestants. Kakashi just left after casting one last look at Naruto who didn't regard him in the slightest.

Now the final fight was about to begin and many people were looking forward to seeing what our favourite trickster will do this time. The Uchiha had lost a lot of fans because of his stunt and Gaara well he was Gaara so he was difficult to root for except for the Sand citizens. All three looked intently at each other as Genma announced the beginning of the last match.

And done.

Next chapter we will see the three way battle and the invasion. Naruto will also pull of some more secret justu. Shikamaru and Temari badly underestimated Naruto and they paid the price.
