Episode 348: Chimchar Conquers His Fears
A few days has passed since Sora and Riku won the Hearthrome Tag Battle Tournament and went their seperate ways for now. Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, and the Digimon had already left Hearthrome City and started to head for Veilstone City for Sora's fourth Gym Badge.
During their travels, Sora exchanged Drakloak for Zangoose. Sora thought it would help get over his fears. Chimchar had a hard time getting along with Zangoose since his frightening past. Zangoose assured him that it was okay and he didn't need to be afraid anymore. But Chimchar wasn't so sure.
As they were going, they came across a young man wearing a red shirt with an orange fireball on the front. He wore a pair of sunglasses.
"You're Sora Ketchum. I heard that you and a trainer with silver hair won the Hearthrome Tag Battle Tournament. And I came here looking for you and him," the young man said.
"And you wanna have a battle against me, right?" Sora asked.
"I do. I want to test out your power for myself. And afterwards, I'll go and look for him," the young man said.
"And you would be?" Sora asked.
"I go by many names my, but my favorite one is Orange Fire," the young man introduced himself.
"Orange Fire?" Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Meowth, and the Digimon all asked.
"Pika?" Pikachu asked.
"Eevee?" Angel asked.
"I think it's a very cool name!" The Orange Fire snapped at the group. He clears his throat. "Anywho, as you can tell by my outfit, I specialize with Fire Type Pokémon. So, I want to battle you with the two of us using five Pokémon each! My Fire Type Pokémon will burn you up so bad, no Ice Heals can cool you down!"
"I can take you up on that," Sora said, accepting his challenge. Sora and the Orange Fire took their places for their battle. Sora took out a Pokéball and got ready. The Orange Fire did the same thing.
"Ninetales! Heat things up!" The Orange Fire shouted. Ninetales came on out to battle. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Drizzile!" Sora called out as Drizzile came out to battle.
"Ninetales! Incinerate!" The Orange Fire ordered. Ninetales fires Incinerate right at Drizzile.
"Water Gun!" Sora ordered. Drizzile fires Water Gun and it blocks the attack. An explosion of steam erupts from the two attacks.
"Fire Spin!" The Orange Fire ordered. Ninetales fires a vortex of fire right at the water lizard Pokémon.
"Dodge and use Water Gun!" Sora ordered. Drizzile avoids Ninetales's Fire Spin and came at the fox Pokémon and fires Water Gun right at it. The Water Type attack deals some heavy damage. "Now use Pound!" Drizzile lands a pound onto Ninetales. THe Orange Fire wasn't going to let that slide.
"Quick Attack!" The Orange Fire ordered. Ninetales charges right at Drizzile with speed and lands a hit onto Drizzile.
"Water Pulse! Your strongest one!" Sora ordered. Drizzle forms a ball of water and hurls it right at Ninetales. The attack hits and Ninetales ends up being confused. "Wrap it up with Pound!" Drizzile lands another Pound and has earned a knockout in Sora's favor. The Orange Fire calls back his Ninetales and huffed.
"Not bad. But I still got plenty of fire in my belly! And here's the proof!' The Orange FIre stated, taking out another Pokéball and threw it. "Magmar! Heat things up!" His Magmar came out to battle. Sora calls back his Magmar and takes out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Wanna see whose fire bunrns hotter? Well, you're about to find out. "Raboot! Go!" Sora called out as Raboot came out to battle. "Flame Charge!" Raboot charges with his body emitting fire.
"Magmar! Dodge and use Fire Punch!" The Orange Fire ordered. Magmar avoids Raboot, and lands a feiry punch onto the fire rabbit Pokémon. "Now use Flamethrower!" Magmar fires Flamethrower right at Raboot.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Rabbot ran towards Magmar to land a hit.
"Magmar! Fire Punch again!" The Orange FIre ordered.
"Raboot! Blaze Kick!" Sora ordered. Magmar and Raboot charged at each other and landed a hit onto one anohter. Raboot and Magmar both had ended up in a double knockout. Sora and the Orange Fire calls their FIre Type Pokémon back. "Get some rest, Raboot. You earned it."
"You did a great job, Magmar. You battled enough for today," the Orange Fire said. "Not bad, Sora. Your fire is even hotter than I thought it was. But mine isn't going to go out that easily." He takes out another Pokéball and threw it. Combusken! Heat things up!" He threw it and his Combusken came out kicking. Sora took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Let's go! Zangoose!" Sora called out as Zangoose came on out to battle. The Orange Fire laughs.
"You should know that your Zangoose is at a huge disadvantage. A Normal Type against a Fighting Type. That'll be your mistake," The Orange FIre taunted.
"My Pokémon aren't easy to scare off and I'll prove it. Zangoose! Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Zangoose charges right at Combusken with his speed attack.
"Combusken! Quick Attack as well!" The Orange Fire ordered.
The cat ferret and young fowl Pokémon cahrge right at each other and they both land a hit onto each other. Zangoose and Combusken both land a hit with one another.
"Zangoose! Use Slash!" Sora ordered.
"Combusken! Use Brick Break!" The Orange Fire ordered. Combusken came at Zangoose with its arm out as Zangoose came at Combusken with his claws ready. Both have landed a hit onto each other. Zangoose took the heaviest damage due to his vulnerability to Fighting Type attacks. "Now, Combusken! Fire Blast!" Combusken fires right at Zangoose. Sora knew how powerful that attack is.
"Zangoose! Try to dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Zangoose ran to avoid it, but got hit by the intense attack and fell on the ground, beaten. Sora calls back his Zangoose. "Take five, Zangoose. You earned a good rest."
"Told you," the Orange Fire said.
"Yeah, but how about this?" Sora asked as he took out anohter Pokéball and threw it. "Let's go! Chimchar!" Chimchar comes on out to battle. The Orange Fire calls back Combusken and takes out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Flareon! Let's go!" The Orange Fire called out. "Flareon! Fire Fang!" Flareon came at Chimchar to land a bite.
"Dodge it, Chimchar!" Sora called out. Chimchar avoids Flareon's attack just by jumping out of the way. "Now, use Scratch!" Sora ordered. Chimchar lands a Scratch onto the flame Pokémon.
"Flareon! Flame Charge!" The Orange Fire ordered. Flareon charges right towards the fire monkey Pokémon. Sora knew Fire Type will power up Flareon due to an ability called Flash Fire, so he knew of an attack that will get the job done.
"Chimchar! Dig!" Sora ordered. Chimchar dug into the ground as Flareon misses.
"Keep your wits about you, Flareon. It'll come up at any moment!" The Orange Fire warned his Pokémon. Flareon looked around for Chimchar. Chimchar came out and lands a punch onto the fire Eeveelution. Flareon was taken down by a blow of the Ground Type attack. The Orange Fire was surprised by the outcome.
"Wow, I thought you would try to win it by using Fire Type attacks with your Chimchar. Can't be right about everything, I guess," The Orange Fire said, calling back his Flareon. "Now, it's time for my trump card." He took out anohter Pokéball and threw it. "Go forth! Typlhosion!" A Typhlosion came out with a loud roar and flames erupting from its back. "This is the strongest Fire Type Pokémon that I have. My Typhlosion has taken on many Water, Rock, and Ground Type Pokémon and her fire still burns hotter than any Charizard's!" Sora looked over to Pikachu.
"Okay, Pikachu. Go right in," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said, entering the battle.
"Typlhosion! Begin with your Quick Attack!" The Orange Fire ordered Typhlosion charged right at Pikachu with her speed attack.
"Pikachu! Quick Attack as well!" Sora ordered. Pikachu and Typhlosion ran towards each other and landed a blow onto one another. "Iron Tail!"
"Typhlosion! Flame Burst!" The Orange Fire ordered. Typhlosion sends out flames right at Pikachu and the attack lands a hit. "Good! Now, use your Solar Beam!" Typhlosion began to take in sunlight.
"Solar Beam? That must be how he deals with any Water, Rock, and Ground Types. All three has an edge over Fire Types, and at the same time, weak to Grass Type moves. I'll have to launch my attack now before Solar Beam reaches full power," Sora said in his thoughts. He shouted out loud, "Pikachu! Use Your Quick Attack! Then, follow with Iron Tail!" Pikachu ran towards Typhlosion while she was charging up Solar Beam. Pikachu charges up Iron Tail and gave her a swing. Typhlosion then fires Solar Beam right at the mouse Pokémon. Pikachu avoids Solar Beam, much to the Orange Fire's surprise.
"What the?!" The Orange Fire exclaimed in shock. "No one has ever avoided my Solar Beam before! There's a first time for everything."
"You're right, there is," Sora said. "Wanna keep going?"
"Sure. Typhlosion! Flamethrower!" The Orange Fire ordered. Typhlosion fires Flamethrower right at the mouse Pokémon.
"Dodge it!" Pikachu avoids Typhlosion's Flamethrower with his speed. "Use your Volt Tackle!" Pikachu charges right at Typhlosion and lands a hit onto the volcano Pokémon and skids backwards. Typhlosion has taken some major damage with that attack.
"Typlhlosion, you okay?" The Orange Fire asked. Typhlosion looked at her trainer with a nod. "Awesome! You can keep going. Can't risk another Solar Beam, so use your Flamethrower instead!" Typhlosion fires her Flamethrower right at Pikachu. The mouse Pokémon tried to avoid Flamethrower, but it was too powerful to dodge and Pikachu took a pretty bad hit, but he wasn't going to go down that easily.
"Pikachu! Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Pikachu fires Thunderbolt right at the volcano Pokémon. Typhlosion got struck by the powerful electric attack and fell backwards. The Orange Fire was stunned as he had lost.
"My most powerful Fire Type Pokémon defeated by a Pikachu. No wonder you're the Pokémon League Champion and one of the winners of the Hearthrome Tag Battle Tournament. Congratulations, Sora," the Orange Fire said. Held out his hand and Sora shook it in return.
"That was a great battle, Orange Fire. You raised your Pokémon right," Sora said. THe Orange Fire smiled at Sora. "So, now what will you be doing?"
"I'll be going and find the trainer with the silver hair. And when I do, I'll have a battle with him, but it'll be after I heal all my Pokémon first," the Orange Fire said.
"You do that," Sora said. The Orange Fire left to get to the nearest Pokémon Center as the group made their own stop in the forest. As they stoped , Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, Thwackey, Raboot, Drizzile, Zangoose, Chimchar, Bellossom, Buneary, Clefairy, Poliwhirl, and Kricketune were helping set up camp along with Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, and the Digimon. They also kept their eyes open for any signs of Devimon, Ogremon, Vorvomon, the Dracomon Brothers, the BlackAgumon, or any other evil Digimon coming their way.
Chimchar was helping out Thwackey and Raboot as he spotted Zangoose. He was shaking in fear whenever he was near Zangoose.
Sora knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he wasn't going to give up on Chimchar just like Paul did.
Speaking of which, Paul came across a wild Gliscor and he sent out his Weavile to deal with it. Weavile's eyes were glowing bright red. It was the work of Myotismon's seed of darkness.
"Weavile! Blizzard!" Paul ordered. Weavile fires Blizzard right at the fang scorpion Pokémon. Gliscor avoids Blizzard and came at Weavile with X-Scissor. "Ice Beam!" Weavile fires Ice Beam and froze the pincers together. "Now, use Metal Claw!" Weavile slashes right at Gliscor and came on down. Paul took out a Pokéball and threw it at Gliscor. The fang scorpion Pokémon flows inside and flows inside as it wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. He took the Pokéball and uses his Pokédex to analyze his latest catch. He grins. "Good. This one I'll keep." He takes off as he calls his Weavile back. He was unaware that the same effect Weavile was having was also affecting Gliscor.
In the Digital World, Leomon, Agunimon, Lobomon, Kumamon, Kazemon, Beetlemon, and Loweemon were riding in with Shoutmon, Dorulumon, and a white lion Digimon wearing blue armor, and a great horned owl Digimon with a small, toothless beak, red eye markings, dark brown body feathers and purple chest feathers with shuriken markings resembling a ninja's vest The tips of his brow feathers as well as its claws are purple while his tail feathers and the markings on the ends of his wings are red. Flying above in the skies are Digimon that resembles peregrine falcons with large, toothed beaks, light brown eye markings, brown body feathers and green chest feathers that extend down their arm-like wings. Their brows feathers are black with red tips and red markings on the ends of their wings. Leomon, Shoutmon, and the other warrior Digimon were riding on Peckmon as Dorulumon ran on all fours as they ran across the desert.
They were heading towards a large mechanical Digimon with a gold body. It was marching through the desert sands.
"There!" Leomon said. He points to the large Digimon. "Kazemon, Beetlemon, Shoutmon, NinjaFalcomon, Spadamon, take half the Falcomon and attack Bulbmon from above! Loweemon, Lobomon, Kumamon, attack from behind! The rest of you are with me!"
"On it!" The Digimon of the Resistance said as they launched their attacks.
Inside of Bulbmon, a couple of Digimon were monitoring the outside. It included a vile version of Monzaemon, but he's a black feral teddy bear with stitches on his arms, chest, and legs. He has a large claw on his right paw and has a Japanese word on a patch. He wore a red cape and red eyes and has a yellow center on the chest. And with him is are Troopmon, and has several small, ball-like Digimon with arms and legs. They wore red boxing gloves with metal studs on their hands and red boots which have a steel cap with three claws. And with them are similar Digimon that has a metal helmet, an arm cannon, and three claws on the left hand. And finally, there are larger versions of the first ball-like Digimon, but they have bandaids on their stomachs and wore black shoes that reads "Big" and "Mame" on their soles. Alarms starts going off as Bulbmon took a hit.
"What was that?!" The feral teddy bear Digimon exclaimed.
"WaruMonzeamon, we're under attack! It's the Resistance!" One of the Troopmon reported.
"So, they're making their move. All units, get to your posts! Mamemon, MetalMamemon, attack the flyers! Troopmon, BigMamemon, you deal with the rest!" WaruMonzeamon ordered.
"Sir!" The Troopmon, Mamemon, MetalMamemon, and BigMamemon all said as they launched their attack. They all came out to attack.
"They're taking the bait!" Agunimon said.
"Good, it's just as we planned. Attack!" Leomon ordered. The Resistance launched their attacks on the large Digimon. "Fist of the Beast King!" Leomon launched a lion-headed attack at the Bulbmon.
"Pyro Darts!" Agunimon shouted as he sends out small bits of fire at the legs.
"Drill Tornado!" Dorulumon shouted as he sends out a tornado right at Bulbmon's legs.
Over to Etemon's trailer, Etemon was sitting in a chair as some Gazimon are monitoring the screen.
"Etemon, the Resistance are near us!" One of the Gazimon reported.
"The Resistance? So, Leomon's got a plan a-hatching. Better get down there," Etemon ordered.
"We can't! WaruMonzeamon is leading the attack himself!" Another Gazimon said.
"That two-bit carnival prize thinks he can just roll right in and steal my thunder, does he? He better think again, because this is my show! And Myotismon will be happy of me to bring the war to an end!" Etemon said. "Now, punch it!"
With that said, the Monochromon pulled the trailer. Once they got close enough, Etemon projected himself, catching the Resistance off guard.
"They have reinforcements!" Dorulumon exclaimed.
Inside of Bulbmon, WaruMonzeamon growled as he slams his claw on the keyboard.
"What is that monkey think he's doing?! This is my show!" WaruMonzeamon questioned very angrily.
"He there, Resistance, how about I sing you a little song? A bit of Concert Crush!" Etemon spoke. He began to sing a song. As Etemon sang his song, all of the Resistance were feeling their strength drain. The Falcomon were feeling their strength fade as they all to the ground.

"Retreat!" Leomon ordered. So, Leomon and his Resistance forces has retreated, but all the Falcomon were captured.
"What's the deal, Etemon?!" WaruMonzeamon exclaimed angrily. "The Resistance got away! The idea was to take them out! Not entertain them!"
"Don't blame me. I'm a superstar," Etemon said.
Once the Resitance was far enough, they felt their strength drained.
"Damn! We had the element of surprise and it fell apart because of Etemon," Beetlemon said.
"And because of that, there's no denying they'll be beefing up security now," Dorulumon said.
"I only hope Agumon, Guilmon, and the others are having much success than we are right now," Kazemon said.
"So do I. We could use their help about now," Agunimon said.
"Their assignment is more important now. They're protecting our human allies. Devimon, Ogremon, and other Digimon under Myotismon's control could attack without warning. And we can't let the human world suffer like the Digital World is suffering," Leomon stated.
The rest of the Resistance understood as they knew their leader was right. They lost so much since the war has begun and innocent Digimon have been caught in the middle.
Back in the Sinnoh region, Vorvomon and the Dracomon Brothers had missed Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, and the Digimon by a few days and they've wasted energy, looking for them.
"I can't believe we came back to Hearthrome City for nothing! We lost Agumon and his crew, and Guilmon and his squad as well!" Vorvomon exclaimed.
"At least Myotismon isn't here," the second Dracomon said.
"Yeah, he'd have our wings for this," the first Dracomon said.
"At least it won't get worse," the second Dracomon said as a Seviper has shown in front of them. This Seviper is colored differently. This Seviper has its mark which is normally purple colored magenta, and the scales where it's yellow are lime green, and the blade is blue as well as the fangs. "A snake."
"Viper!" The Seviper hissed. They heard something coming. It turns out to be a trio of Zangoose attacking them.
"What the?!" Vorvomon and the Dracomon Brothers got caught in the middle of the feud.
"We gotta Digivolve!" Vorvomon said.
"I would if I weren't low on energy right now!" The first Dracomon said.
"Me too!" The second Dracomon added.
"Well, this is just great!" Vorvomon yelled as they brawl between the Seviper and three Zangoose continued.
Over to Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, the Digimon, and the other Pokémon, they were cleaning up when they heard the fight going on.
"You hear that?" Gomamon asked.
"It sounds a fight going on," Veemon said.
"You think it's Devimon launching a sneak attack?" Ventus asked.
"It donesn't sound like he's doing a good job at it," Sora said. As they got closer, they saw it was a brawl between a Seviper and three Zangoose. Chimchar shook with fear when he saw the three other Zangoose. He clinged onto Chimchar.
"What are those?" Tentomon asked.
"Those three are Zangoose and that one there is a Seviper. And it's colored differently from the one Sora has," Ventus said.
"Must be a Shiny Seviper," Terra said.
"Why are they fighting like that?" Patamon asked.
"Seviper and Zangoose has been hated enemies for many generations. So, when they meet, the first thing they do is fight each other," Kairi said. "That is except for Sora's Zangoose and Seviper since they're best friends." The three Zangoose has finished the fight with the Shiny Seviper as it took off in the woods to lick its wounds. The wild Zangoose sniffed the air and they could smell another Seviper. Instead ofanother Seviper, they caught a Glimpse of Sora's Zangoose, giving off the scent of Sora's Seviper.
"Uh-oh," Sora said as he could tell something was off. Chimchar was even more scared. The three wild Zangoose started to attack Sora's Zangoose, so Pikachu, Angel, and Thwackey attacked the three wild Zangoose to protect him.
"Zangoose, Zangoose, Zangoose, Zangoose!" The three wild Zangoose barked.
"What are they saying to Sora's Zangoose, Meowth?" Wormmon asked.
"They're calling Sora's Zangoose a Seviper-loving traitor. The only thing worse than a Seviper is a Zangoose that are friends with one," Meowth translated.
"Zang, Zang, Zangoose, Zangoose, Zang," Sora's Zangoose said.
"Sora's Zangoose just said that there shouldn't be conflict between Seviper and Zangoose, because Zangoose and Seviper should be friends," Meowth translated.
"Zangoose!" The three wild Zangoose barked as they dove at Sora's Zangoose to rip him to shreds, but Pikachu, Angel, Thwackey, Raboot, Drizzile, Bellossom, Poliwhirl, Clefairy, Kricketune, and Buneary all attacked the trio of cat ferret Pokémon, only to be swiped away with their claws.
"Pikachu!" Sora gasped.
"Angel!" Kairi gasped.
Chimchar watched as the other Pokémon got hurt by the attacking wild Zangoose. They lept to attack Sora's Zangoose when the Digimon tried to save him, but they got swept to the side by them.
"Tossed to the side like dust. This can't get humiliating," Gatomon said.
"Zangoose!" Sora cried. Chimchar lets go of Ventus and rammed into one of the Zangoose. The other two Zangoose glared at the fire monkey Pokémon as he shvered in fear. The Zangoose lunged at him. "Dig!" Chimchar dug into the ground to avoid them. The three wild Zangoose looked around for him. He jumps out of the ground and lands a hit onto one of them and knocked it out. The other two Zangoose charges right at Chimchar. He froze out there, but Sora's Zangoose lept to protect him. Chimchar was surprised to save him. It was right there and then, Chimchar's fear of Zangoose were just diappearing. He watched on as the two wild Zangoose were fighting the tamed Zangoose. "Chimchar!' Chimchar turned to Sora. "I know you're scared, but my Zangoose is fighting to protect you after you rushed in to save him! That took some courage! You got more courage than you think you do! I believe in you!" Chimchar felt Sora's words get through to him and he nodded, so he went into action and fought alongside Sora's Zangoose. "Chimchar! Flamethrower! Zangoose! Slash!" Chimchar fires Flamethrower at one of the wild Zangoose as Sora's Zangoose lands a Slash onto another. "Flame Wheel! Crush Claw!" Chimchar and Sora's Zangoose headed right towards the two wild cat ferret Pokémon and they landed a hit onto their opponents and they go flying right into each other and earned a double knockout. The three wild Zangoose got on their feet and started to run off.
"Zangoose, Zangoose!" One of the Zangoose said as they ran off.
"Meowth?" Ventus asked.
"One of them said that they'll remember this," Meowth translated. Chimchar cheered as he gave Zangoose a hug on the leg. He froze when he realized who he was hugging and looked up to the cat ferret Pokémon. Zangoose patted him on the head. Chimchar smiled.
"You did it, Chimchar," Sora said. "You got over your fear. Looks like my little therapy worked like a charm."
"Looks like there's one more way you're a better trainer than Paul. Helping your Pokémon cure their phobias," Ventus said.
"Youre right, Ven. Sora was right to brig his Zangoose over here to help him out," Aqua said. Kairi walked to Sora with a smile.
"Well, I'm proud of the both of you," Kairi said, giving Sora a kiss on the lips. He kisses her right back. Chimchar watched on as he got used to seeing them kissing. He was confused for the fact that his new trainer is showing so much affections as his previous trainer has not.
It was a brand new day for Chimchar since his fears of Zangoose no longer mattered to him. And now, the journey to Veilstone City will continue on in our next chapter.
