Chapter 21

RPOV

Kill him. The next moments happen in a blur. I see a shadow from the corner of my eye try to grab me but a swift kick and they are down, and I continue my way towards my prey. Suddenly, I am in front of Victor. I grab him by the neck and throw him against the wall. A sickening crack sounds as his head collides with the wall.

There is a buzzing in my head as I turn to find the next target. The brown eyed guardian comes up to me and I crouch low. Someone is screaming. The guardian comes at me full tilt, so I brace for impact and block his hit, then pivot to kick him on his stomach. He blocks my hit with a grunt, and we circle each other. Before I can attach again, a wall of fire is suddenly in front of me, and as it expands to the sides, it forces me back into a corner of the alley. Through the flames, I see a person crouch next to the body on the wall.

No! I want to roar, he is mine. But the wall of fire does not recede. I notice however the space is not becoming smaller, the fire is not meant to burn me to a crisp but to keep me contained.

Rage like I can't remember feeling before consumes me. How dare they. I lock eyes with the fire user and smile. Two can play this game. Taking a couple of steps back, I run towards the barrier. I see him hesitate, but as he notes I have no intension of stopping he is forced to drop the barrier on one side or burn me alive. I fly through the side, spinning in place to circle around back to my prey, when I feel someone hit me from the left side and we go tumbling down to the snow-covered ground. I look up hissing, as his face comes into view. I hesitate to go for his neck as his face seems vaguely families, like I know him from somewhere.

That is all the time he needs to use his heavier bodyweight to pin me down. I see the stake in hand flash in the moonlight aiming for my heart, but it changes directions and hits my left shoulder instead.

I scream in pain as the stake's magic curses into my blood from the injury, but the pain also has the added effect of snapping me out of the blind rage I'm in and be able to understand what the guardian is yelling at me.

"You don't get to give up now." He says. "We are too close for you to lose this fight now Roza. We can beat this, together." Dimitry. That's his name, and he is not a faceless guardian, he is my love, the person who is still fighting for me.

"Christian get the chains." Dimitry says, not taking his eyes away from mine, the stake still piercing my left shoulder. "Fight it Roza, we are your family, remember what you are fighting for."

I want to nod, tell him I remember, that I am still here, but all I can do is stay still as Christian comes over, the stake is removed, and they flip me on my front, my hands on my back as the shackle close around my wrist. As they bring me up to a sitting position, I see Robert kneeling in the snow next to Victor, a golden light coming from his hands over to his brother's body.

In the distance, sirens start blaring again.

"Dimitry, you need to get her away from here, Guardians may be coming." Lissa suddenly appears to our side. "I already toldLila to get away. She'll meet you at the safe house, but you need to get Rose out of here now."She approaches carefully and I see her place the bracelet back on my wrist.

Dimitri nods and without a word, tugs on my uninjured arm helping me up and we take off, aiming for the narrow passageway out of the alley and onto the other side of the street. I venture one last look at Victor's body slumped against the wall, his brother still working on him. He doesn't seem to be breathing.
