"That fucking idiot…" Astro muttered.
He stood in the council room, watching with everyone else as his father locked horns with Python through the All-Seeing Eye. The two alpha titans tried to push one another back, and it felt like the clash between them was shaking mewni itself. In fact, he was pretty sure he'd felt the tremors from when they had made contact.
"I don't believe it. He's actually… fighting them," Rhombulus said confused. "Does this mean he's on our side?" Nobody bothered answering the question, because they all already knew the answer. Typhon wasn't on the Ten's side it seemed, but he most certainly wasn't on theirs. He was on Astro's. That was likely the one and only reason he was standing against his brother right now.
But the young titan in the room honestly wished he wasn't right now. He had his problem with his father sometimes. In fact recently he found himself quite furious with the elder titan. But the very idea of him standing against the Ten right now. Knowing what was likely to happen. It was a nightmare for him. It was like Rosetta all over again.
Astro rushed towards the door. He didn't care if the scissors didn't work. He would get as close as possible and take Sear the rest of the way. When he tried to leave however, he found the door wouldn't budge. "I'm sorry, but I sealed the door," Sirius said casually.
The prince turned towards him, his eyes black and full of fury. "Sirius!" he shouted angrily, the dark aura around him flailing dangerously.
"I order you to undo the seal, right now!" Nia said. She didn't know why Sirius was doing this. He had always been a total weirdo. But now really wasn't the time for them to deal with his antics. Not when Typhon literal life was on the line.
"I refuse," he said bluntly.
Astro roared before reaching forward and grabbing the front of his shirt, yanking him forward. "Remove the seal, NOW!" he shouted, raising his fist up.
"I can't. And even if you kill me, it won't vanish until the battle is over. I really am sorry Asterossa, but you need to watch this battle," he said. He didn't sound at all sorry about it however. He spoke in the same monotone voice as usual.
Astro looked like he was about to hit him, but managed to stop himself. He shoved him away and turned back towards the two, ready to try and smash through the barrier if need be. But then he heard another thundering noise from the All-Seeing eye. He turned around and saw his father pushing Python back.
Typhon growled as powered forward, pushing his younger brother back further and further. Python grunted before planting his feet firmly, managing to stop himself. This almost reminded him of when they were younger. Just little runts training and play fighting with one another. But they weren't kids anymore, and this was no game.
He bucked forward, sending Typhon sliding back. He then rushed in, delivering a punch right to his face. Typhon recovered immediately, delivering a punch of his own. The two suddenly began sending a storm of punches towards one another, rattling each other's bodies with machine-like blows. Neither of them even bothered trying to dodge or block. They just continued raining down punches on each other.
Even just watching, Astro could tell that they were enough force to kill a normal monster a mewman behind each swing. A single one might have rocked him, yet they kept taking and giving them without hesitation.
Typhon brought his fist back once more, swinging it upwards and getting ready to deliver a jaw shattering punch to his younger brother's chin, but then noticed something from the corner of his eye. "Death Note!" Kyu strummed her shamisen, and Typhon jumped back just an instant before the ground beneath him was sliced through by seemingly nothing.
He looked over towards the nine tailed woman, who began quickly strumming her guitar again. Typhon began moving again, and every time he did it seemed he had just narrowly avoided being sliced by the air itself. "What's happening?! I don't see anything!" Nia said, confused.
"It's her shamisen. It's magic, and the music she plays from it can do all types of things. Including shred whatever within range of her to pieces," Hekapoo said. She remembered just how terrifying it was. Kyu had tried to use it on her in the past more than enough times.
Kyu kept after Typhon, standing just close enough to keep him in range. "It's sweet you're fighting for your son, but I won't have it be at the cost of mine!" she shouted. Typhon folded his wings in front of him, just barely managing to defend himself against the slash that followed. A few feathers came off of him, and he shot them towards Kyu. She played a few more notes, focusing on the feather and deflecting them away. "You failed us! You failed Kitsune! After how much he looked up to you, you let them take him! It was your negligence that led to all of this!"
Typhon growled. "I did what I thought was best for our people! Too much blood was being spilt!" he shouted back. He got ready to charge at her again, but then another figure rushed him from his blind spot.
"Too little blood if you ask me," Echidna said, punching at him. He raised his arm and blocked it, but it launched him upwards into the air. "You should have let us finish the fight. Let us wipe out the mewmans once and for all."
Typhon spread his wings out and stopped himself midair. "Wiping them all out would make us no better than she was! We were above that!" he yelled. "We had to prove that we were better!"
"We already proved we were better! Long before then!" Matrona shouted as she swung her hammer at him. Typhon raised both of his hands, but when the hammer hit it sent him flying right through the gates of the kingdom. He went flying into the kingdom, crashing through a few houses before landing in the middle of the area.
The others began moving in after him, except Orthrus and Argus. The former whimpered as he watched them go, not sure what to do in the situation. While Argus just calmly sat back. In a fight between his two sons, it wasn't his place to pick a side. He would sit back and observe.
A crater formed where he landed, but he quickly jumped back up to his feet. He didn't have any time to gather himself before his brother was on him once more. He tackled Typhon, smashing him through a few more buildings and then bringing his fist back to punch him. "You're throwing away everything just to appease yet another memwan queen?!" Python snarled.
Typhon caught it however, turning them around and smashing Python through the next few. He slammed his head against the ground, dragging him against it. "I'm doing what I have to protect my son!" Typhon roared back. "And you'd do the same!"
Python's tail whipped up, hitting Typhon in the side of the head and knocking him off balance. Python grabbed his wrist, pulling him forward and then kicking him in the stomach. He knocked him inside one of the houses, and then got up and got ready to fire a blast at him. But then the house itself was lifted from the ground.
Typhon grunted as he hurled the building at his younger brother, only to have it sliced into pieces before it could reach him. Kruger pointed his sword at him, his eyes narrowed. "Don't make us do this Typhon. You're the last person I wanted to brandish my blade against," he said.
"Then don't!" Typhon said, firing a blast at him from his horn. Kruger stood his around, deflecting it off to the side with Bloodedge. "Do you really think the kingdoms will fold to any demands you make?! Do you know how many innocent people you're going to have cut down to accomplish what you want?!"
Typhon spread his wings again and sent another round of feather at him. Kruger swung his sword, managing to skillfully deflect them. "How many more do you think will perish if we let things keep going the way they are?! The kingdoms have spilled more blood than all of us combined! They have to be stopped, and inaction isn't the way to do it!"
Kurger's eyes glowed, and he swung Bloodedge. Typhon quickly ducked down to avoid the slash, which cleanly cut through every single building behind him. "You can't save everyone! Sooner or later you must make a choice!" Python shouted as he leapt over Kruger and dived down at Typhon.
He spun around in the air and then swung his foot down at him. Typhon blocked it, but the ground beneath him began giving in. "You never understood that! You never were willing to make the sacrifices necessary to truly protect our people! For all your talk of your status as king, all your power, you did nothing with it!"
Typhon grit his teeth, grabbing his brother's foot and then throwing him aside. Python quickly landed on his feet and fired a blast of dark magic, which Typhon knocked upwards into the air. "You seem slower than before, have you gotten rusty over the years?!" Typhon was struck from the side by Matrona's hammer, and was once again sent flying from the thundering strike.
He slid through the kingdom, reaching out and digging his hands into the ground to stop himself. He glared up towards Matrona who was leaping through the air, swinging down Earthshatter at him. Typhon yelled out and swung his fist upwards, counting the blow from the hammer. The ground around the both of them cracked and broke apart.
Typhon swung his other fist, knocking the hammer away from him and sending Matrona stumbling back. "Who in the hell do you think you're calling rusty?! Did you forget who gouged that eye of yours out?!" he shouted getting ready to blast at her. Roots suddenly shot up from the ground, wrapping around his feet and arms.
"I remember the three of us all coming together to bring down the Butterfly family. And now here we are as enemies," Branch said, making his way in between the two. The Great Spear floated behind him. "Who would've thought that you of all people would be defending that family. Not that I don't understand your position. But we can't let your personal attachment keep us from doing what's best for mewni."
"Is it what's best for mewni, or best for you," Typhon asked, glaring. "Do you honestly think Blossom would want you to do this?"
Branch frowned at him. "I don't know. I can't ask her anymore," he said as the Great Spear began to spin around rapidly. "I don't intend to give the mewmans a chance to take anyone from me or anyone else again. I'm sorry Ty." The Spear began to glow, and suddenly burst apart into a tidal wave of red rose petals. "Rose Rage."
The petals all shot towards Typhon, who quickly tore himself from the roots and flew into the air. The petals broke off into different directions, chasing and trying to cut him off. He fired a few blasts to keep them scattered, but eventually they all began to surround him in a sphere closed in. They spun around, grinding against one another as they spun around Typhon. Each was as sharp as a razor blade, and made left a few small cuts on the king.
Branch closed both of his fists as they spun even faster, but then suddenly they were all blown apart as Typhon let out a monstrous roar. Both Branch and Matrona were blown back by the force of it, and Typhon then rushed at the two. Branch quickly brought the petals back and reformed them into the Great Spear, launching it at him.
Despite the weapon coming at him at a blinding speed, he managed to react, knocking it away with one of his horns before ramming into Branch. The Earth nymph had the air knocked out of him, and went crashing into a building nearby. Matrona raised her hammer and went for another strike, but Typhon leapt up and kicked her in the stomach, knocking her right off of her feet.
"He's managing to hold his own…" Hekapoo muttered. He was outnumbered, and she had no idea how long he could keep this up, but the fact that he hadn't already gone down meant he was doing better than pretty much anyone else could in this situation.
Typhon prepared to go after the giantess, but then something struck him from behind. He turned his head and saw Scylla walking towards him, water floating all around her. "I knew you couldn't do it…" she muttered angrily. She flung her hand, and some of the water formed into the speared and shot towards him. Typhon knocked it away, though he did feel the force behind it.
Scylla increased the density of the water before sending a few more. "You never took anything seriously. Not your title, your responsibility. Everything was just a big joke to you!" she shouted, sending a barrage of water projectiles at him. Typhon knocked the first few away, and then began blocking them with his wings. "How could you do that toy us! To Echidna! To your own kid!"
Typhon jumped to the side, tearing a piece of the ground up and then hurling it words her. Scylla fused all three of her arms together, then swung and smashed it apart. Her other set of arms fused together as well, and she charged at him. "You fucking traitor!" she shouted, swinging at him.
The king blocked the punches with his arms, but they were knocking him back each time. Scylla kept the assault up, but then Typhon planted his feet and swung back. She quickly raised her own arms up to defend herself. "Don't lecture me on matters you know nothing about, brat!" Despite blocking it, Scylla was sent flying off by the punch.
Before Typhon could even think of following up this time, a blur came at him and punched him across the face. He grunted and looked towards Gadfly, who hovered a few feet away from him. "We know all about it, pops. You chose wrong."
Typhon frowned towards the boy. "Gadfly… don't do this."
"You're not given me much choice…"
Gadfly rushed at him again, and Typhon swung. But the younger titans moved around his fist and slipped past him, wrapping his tail around his waist and dragging him behind him. Typhon was whipped around as Gadfly made his way around the kingdom, making a number of twists and sharp turns to slam him into the buildings and stalls they passed by. Typhon growled before he was suddenly pulled up into the air.
Gadfly spun around before letting him loose, sending him flying up higher. Gadfly flew in front of him, a glare on his face. "You just forgot about us huh? Moved on and started a new life. New family, new son, new kingdom. And now we're just in the way," Gadfly said balling his fists up. "Breaking the Butterfly family breaks up the nice little life you put together, and you can't have that."
"It's not like that," Typhon said, glaring back at him. "Things aren't the same as in our time Gadfly. It's far more complicated. The royals families are different. Slaughtering them all won't solve anything, it'll only make things-"
Gadfly rushed as himt again, sending a flurry of punches his way. Typhon raised his arms and blocked them, but Gadfly began to circle around him, punching and kicking at him at a blinding speed. Typhon looked around to try and get a beat on him, but he was moving too fast. "All you ever told me, TAUGHT me, was how fucked up mewmanity was! How we needed to take them out and take back what was ours!"
Typhon swung at him, but Gadfly dodged it and kicked him in the chin. "Now you're trying to tell me it's wrong?! That we should just let bygones be bygones and let's all that shit slide! What about all of our friends?! Our families?! We're supposed to just forget them like you forgot us?!" Typhon's tail whipped around, nearly striking Gadfly in the face. But the boy narrowly managed to dodge.
"I'm telling you that we need to change and adapt!"
"To hell with that?! We already adapted!" Gadfly yelled using his own tail and striking Typhon back a few feet. He suddenly seemed to vanish, but quickly came back, speeding around Typhon and striking him for all directions. "Everything I ever did, I did for our family! For you! To make you proud! I did EVERYTHING you ever taught me!"
Typhon grit his teeth. The rain of blows hurt, but hearing the words from Gadfly cut far deeper. "Well I taught you wrong!" He brought his arm back and swung, managing to nail Gadfly right in the chin. The boy was clearly rocked, and went spinning through the air with a gaon.
"No, you didn't…"
Typhon looked up just at Python swooped in, tackling him from above. He kept pushing him downwards, and his horns began to glow. He shot a point blank blast, sending Typhon crashing down to the ground. He landed in the middle of the arena, and let out a groan before making his way back up to his feet. Something began to close in around him however, and he looked up to see Echidna looming over him. The lower half of her body had stretched out, becoming more snake-like, and she was coiling around him.
"All that time alone in solitude. It dulled you. Clouded your judgement. I almost feel sorry for you to be honest," she said, narrowing her eyes before squeezing tighter. "But none of us are so forgiving that we'll simply allow your errors to slide. Especially not when you're so bent on standing against us. Don't fret though. So long doesn't make the same mistake, he'll be allowed to stand with us. Let's hope he got better judgement from his mother. Though given who she was, that's doubtful."
Typhon's eyes turned black, and he quickly pushed Echidna's body away enough to escape. He flew towards her, grabbing her by the shoulders and slamming her against the ground. "Think woman! You know better than anyone I have no love for that family! Not after everything they've done! Do you really think I would choose to do this if I didn't truly believe-!"
"It's always about what you believe, isn't it?!" Echidna shouted back, shoving him away. He landed and slid back, and she rose up above him once more. "You and your own personal code were all you cared about! Just protecting our own territory, as if all of mewni wasn't out to start with!"
She spit towards him, shooting a stream of rather nasty looking venom. Typhon jumped out of the way, and the venom melted into the ground where he once stood. Python kicked him from behind, knocking him right back down to the ground, and he rolled to the side just before Kyu sliced into him with another note.
The rest of the Ten moved in towards him around the arena. Typhon growled as they rushed him. He dodged and fought back as best as he could, but it seemed like every time he managed to gain any ground, one of the other Ten could make a move and knock him right off balance again.
"He can't win this…" Astro muttered, dread slowly sinking in. This was the first time he had ever seen his father struggle. The first time he'd ever been pushed into a corner. And after hearing, seeing, and experiencing his strength firsthand, it was a shocking thing to witness. "Sirius! Remove the seal!"
Sirius, shook his head. "I will not. Even if you did manage to make it there in time, it would only result in your inevitable defeat and death," he said bluntly. Astro growled and swung towards him, but he nimbly leapt out of the way.
"I said take it down!" Astro roared, the dark magic around him flaring.
"Astro!"
The prince's head whipped back around towards the Eye, and he saw Typhon being pushed back by Echidna. He roared, knocking her back, but then roots shot up and caught his entire lower body. Gadfly and Scylla moved in, Scylla forming water blades around her hands, and Gadfly branching his tail. They both slashed him across the chest. Typhon winced, but quickly tore himself loose.
He ran towards Sculla, but Matrona swung her fist down and smashed him into the ground, sending a shockwave through the earth itself. "Father!" Astro looked panicked, but suddenly Typhon rose up, holding Matrona fist and lifting her up into the air. The giantess went wide eyed as he threw her up into the air, then aimed a blast up at her.
Just as he was about to fire, Kyu stummed the shamisen again, hitting one of his horns and knocking the blast off course. Kruger moved in right after. "Hell Split…" He swung his sword, slashing Typhon across the back. A massive cut opened up, and Astro grit his teeth when he saw part of his left wing severed.
Typhon ignored the injury, punching Kruger away. But then the Great Spear went spinning past him, slicing one of his shoulders and sending him stumbling back. "Craig Crush!" Matrona slammed her hands together, and two walls of earth moved up on both sides of the king, trying to crush him. He raised both hands, stopping each of them, which left him wide open for Kyu's attack.
"Farewell Melody…"
A series of slashes rattled his body as Kyu quickly strummed her shamisen, and Typhon looked like he was in pain. Fighting one or two of the Ten might have been manageable, but to fight eight, with his brother among them? He had no real openings. No chances to put any of them down for good.
Still, it wasn't as if giving up was an option right now.
He ripped the wall of earth away, hurling them at Kyu who quickly moved out of the way. The other moved in to attack him again, but then he let loose the King's call. All of the Ten suddenly stopped in their tracks, looked irritated and pained. Typhon put everything he had into the King's call. Even if this couldn't bring them down, it could at least weaken them enough to give him some breathing room.
"You must be desperate to have to resort to that, big brother."
Python's eyes turned black, and suddenly he let loose a King's Call of his own. Astro looked shocked. He had never seen anyone besides his father use the King's Call. He himself could only use it half decently. But his Uncle… he could feel the call from here.
The two of them seemed to cancel each other out, as the rest of the Ten around Python seemed to recover from their shock. "Now!" Python said. The others all quickly attacked from where they were, launching whatever attack they could at Typhon at once. He shielded himself with his wings just before they landed, kicking a cloud of dust and debris up into the air.
The King's Call seemed to stop, and Python stopped his own as well. When the cloud of dust cleared up, Typhon was still standing. Though it was clear he was hurt. His wounds were bleeding, and he was covered in cuts and bruises. He let out a grunt, and then suddenly fell down to one knee, panting heavily.
Python began walking towards him, a glare on his face. "My elder brother, Typhon. It's your mistakes and ignorance that led to our kind falling from grace. And now it's time to answer for them. I offer you one last chance. Agree to stand aside, and we can end this here and now. Refuse, and we'll before force to ensure you don't get in our way."
Typhon kept staring down at the ground for a few moments, and then let out a breath and looked up. "You're getting a big head, aren't you? Thinking you can order me. Do you not remember who the elder of us is?" he asked, smirking. He spat blood towards his feet. "I yield to no one. You know that."
Python kept looking down at him, and then frowned. "I know…" he muttered. He lifted his hand and got ready to strike. "It's what I both admired and hated about you…"
Everyone tensed as they saw Python prepared to attack. Nia panicked, raising her hands and trying to make a portal of her own. Nothing happened however. She turned towards Hekapoo. "Can't you do anything! Please!" she said.
"I can't!" Hekapoo said, shaking her head. "I've been trying! I'm still cut off!"
"For stump's sake Sirius, break the seal!" Omni shouted. He had no love for Typhon, but if he was standing against the Ten then he was a potential alley, and if he fell it would mean that there truly was no longer a chance of them stopping the Ten.
Sirius pushed his glasses up. "No."
Nia was about to yell at him, but then Astro roared. His horns began to glow brightly, and his magic spiked. Everyone else was blown back as something appeared in front of him, and then… in a flash, he was gone. "What happened?! Where did he go?!" Rhombulus asked, confused.
Sirius hummed. "Well, that was about right…"
Python swung his hand down, aiming right as his elder brother's chest. Typhon braced himself, but right as he was about to make contact, something struck him in the face. Python flew back, hitting and sliding against the ground. The other all looked surprised as he sat up and glared back towards his brother. What was that. Typhon looked just as confused, but then saw the figure touch down in front of him.
"W-what in the hell are you doing here boy?!"
Astro growled as he stood in front of his father, his teeth bared and a look of fury on his face. "Just shut up and stay back," he said, grabbing Ocean's Kiss. "I'm taking the fight from here old man," he said, glaring at the rest of the Ten.
Python raised an eyebrow at the young titan. "So, this must be the famed hero of mewni," he said before cracking his neck. "We're meeting a little earlier than expected, but very well. Let's properly introduce ourselves to one another, nephew…"
A/N: Pretty much just an entire chapter of throwing hands! I tried to make it seem like Typhon was somewhat holding his own, which against the Ten is pretty much the best anybody (even him) could do. Hope you guys enjoyed! And now Astro is in the mix! How do you think it's gonna play out?!
