Puff yelled as he charged through the swarm of enemies, tramping over some while cutting and smashing others with his axe. The few who got close enough to land a hit on the behemoth found their strikes to be largely ineffective, their weapons bouncing right off of him or even shattering upon impact.
One of the opposing soldiers leapt at him, trying to aim for his face. But Puff turned around just in time to snatch him out of the air, crushing both of his arms in his grip before turning and launching him off into the distance. He continued to rampage through the battlefield, attracting quite a bit of opposition, and yet not slowing down even a bit.
"Well, ain't you just having a barrel of fun?"
Puff turned around, surprised to hear the unfamiliar voice so close to him. It only took a glimpse from the corner of his eye to recognize that it wasn't an alley however, and he swung his axe around to cut down the figure.
Gadfly easily moved out of the way of the weapon, an amused look on his face. "I gotta say, I was really surprised to see you on the battlefield, big guy. Well, on the other side of the battlefield anyway. I mean a goliath fighting for the mewmans? And the Butterfly kingdom no less? Times really must have been hard for you to sink that low."
Puff growled and then swung at him again, but Gadfly slipped past the blow with little effort. "Or maybe it's a money thing. They paying you? You don't strike me as the hired muscle type," he said rubbing his chin. Puff ignored him, spinning his axe around in his hand as he continued to swing away.
Gadfly continued avoiding each attack, not showing the slightest bit of trouble. Unsurprisingly there was a lot of power behind his blows. He was a goliath after all. And for a monster who wasn't a titan, Gadfly would admit that he was impressive. He had to have at least six hearts. But he was slow, at least compared to him.
Then again, everyone was slow compared to him.
"Not very talkative, are you?" Gadfly asked.
Puff growled and got ready to lunge at him again, but suddenly a hulking figure rushed in and slammed into him from his side. Everyone looked shocked as Puff slid back against the ground. He quickly sat back up, and then saw a massive form standing in front of him. "Hmm, so this is the last of our kind. A cowardly runt hiding behind armor and filthy little mewmans. What a disgrace," Ar-Janek said, frowning.
Puff got back up to his feet, then began walking towards the other goliath. Ar-Janek began walking as well, and everyone quickly cleared out of the way as they headed towards one another. "Aw shit…" Morel muttered. There weren't many people who could knock Puff around that easily. This guy must have been in trouble.
Puff and Ar-Janek stopped in front of each other, and the height difference was rather shocking. Ar-Janek had at least five feet on him. "It was bad enough to find out that my people had been all but wiped out when I returned, but to see one of them fighting alongside the feeble little mewmans? What an utter disappointment. I-"
He was suddenly cut off when Puff swung his fist, punching him in the stomach and sending him stumbling back. "Shut up and die…" he said, stomping towards him again.
He swung his axe at Ar-Janek, who stepped back and dodged the weapon before moving forward and grabbing him by the shoulders. Ar-Janek let out a yell before lifting Puff up and throwing him, once again sending him crashing to the ground. He began making his way towards him, popping his knuckles and preparing for a brawl. He doubted beating up on this runt would be satisfying, but it was clear the rest of the weakling in Gadfly's rest were incapable of dealing with him.
"Shit…" Morel said, getting ready to move in and help. Someone who could manhandle Puff like that was too dangerous to let run wild. He would take him down with some magic before he could do too much damage.
Before he could reach them however, Gadfly zipped in front of him. "Whoa there pretty boy, let's let the big guys have their fun," he said smirking. Morel narrowed his eyes at the titan, immediately putting his guard up. His instincts were screaming that this guy was dangerous. "Besides, I want to have a quick chat with you. I mean, you're a titan right? So what's the deal?"
Morel grunted. "Sorry, but I'm not in a chatty mood," he said, raising his hand. A number of knives floated out from his person, twirling around until he snapped his fingers and directed them all at Gadfly. He pointed forward, and they all zipped towards the young titan, who just crossed his arms and stood there.
"Too slow…"
Right as the edge of the knives were about to pierce him, Gadfly suddenly seemed to vanish. Morel looked shocked, and quickly tried to see or sense just where he had gone off to. But then he felt an arm wrap around his shoulder. "Yeah, I wasn't really asking my guy. Now come on," Gadfly said.
Before Morel could react, Gadfly grabbed him around the neck and arm and zipped off, the two of them disappearing from the battlefield. The handful of warriors who noticed didn't get a chance to dwell on it for very long, as more of the undead warriors and rebels began moving again since Puff was occupied.
Corona continued keeping the barrier up around the battlefield, focusing on even the most minor of injuries. She wanted to keep everyone in top fighting shape. If they could take the initiative in the battle early it would keep the momentum in their favor.
"Somethings coming down!"
"Look out!"
Corona looked up and then gasped when she saw a bright blur of red diving down at them. She quickly flew upwards and then put up a barrier to block whatever it was that was speeding down towards them. The crimson light smashed right through it however, and Corona quickly formed several more.
It continued breaking through them all, getting closer and closer to them. Corona frowned. What was this thing? Whatever it was was too powerful for her to stop half heartedly. She had to lower the barrier over the battlefield. She made it vanish, creating a second barrier around herself just as the object was about to reach her.
This time it actually managed to stop it, at least for the most part. She heard a crack, and suddenly found herself staring at the tip of a razor sharp lance. The weapon had pierced the barrier, and nearly her. "Well, I'm quite surprised you managed to stop it. I aimed to take out at least a few with that dive…"
Corona looked up above the barrier, seeing that the owner of the weapon was still holding onto it. He was a young man, who was decked out from head to toe in blood red armor. He wore a helmet that hid the upper half of his face, one that resembled a dragon. "The Crimson Dragoon…"
"Hmm, I'm honored to be recognized. Especially by a member of the royal family. But I can't imagine they would let the heir to the throne step onto the battlefield," the figure said skeptically. "Might you be a member of the royal family?"
"I am," Corona answered before expanding the barrier to push him back. "Corona Butterfly, the heir to the noble house. And I'm sorry, but I can't allow you to cause any havoc among our forces."
"Tis not my wont to cause any my lady. But I have currently hold no no sway over my actions. If you wish to keep me from harming those below, it will have to be by force."
Corona nodded. "I understand. I'll try not to make this too painful," she said as she warped the barrier, causing it to form around and contain him.
"I wish I could make the same promise…"
A crimson red aura grew around his entire body, and he spun his lance around before swinging and striking the barrier. It shattered like glass, and he leapt at Corona and stabbed at her with his lance. She just barely managed to move out of the way, the lance ripping through the sleeve of her dress.
She distanced herself from him as he fell, but then a glyph suddenly formed underneath him, giving him a platform to stand on. Corona stopped and looked down at him. She had remembered reading something about his magical abilities during her studies at a squire. Being able to charge things with energy and release it in a large burst.
He used those glyphs to launch himself into the air, then charged himself and his weapon with energy to dive bomb down onto the battlefield. He used this very tactic to slay dragons, picking them out of the air before they could ever react. The skies would rain with blood and dragon corpses, which is what earned him the name Crimson Dragoon.
She couldn't let him get too high up, or hit the ground. If he built up too much momentum she wouldn't be able to keep him in check. "Well, I knew it wouldn't be easy," she said before grabbing the torn sleeve of her dress. With one swift motion, she tore the rest of the dress off, revealing a full suit of silver and blue armor. Her body began to grow a blue aura around it.
The Crimson Dragoon smirked up at her. "That aura, and magic. It looks quite similar to my own. How amusing. What do they call you? The Azure Dragoon?" he asked jokingly.
"The Azure Angel," she corrected.
"You're a titan. And an incubus. So why the fuck are you fighting alongside the Butterfly family? It doesn't make any fucking sense."
Morel scowled as he rubbed his neck, which was still a bit sore from being yanked so far and from the battlefield. Everything had happened so fast he still felt a bit dizzy. He could still see where the battle was going, but Gadfly was hovering in front of him, a curious expression on his face.
"Look man, I'm not talking about this with you," he said, glancing between Gadfly and the battlefield. If he could just get close enough to swap with one of the enemies, he could throw Gadfly off and maybe get the jump on him. "So are we going to fight or what? Because I'm not up for-"
Gadfly was suddenly beside him, and Morel quickly swung his arm but Gadfly caught his wrist. "Incubus and succubus only change their appearance to blend in with mewmans right? To feed. I get that. So why are you still keeping that form? I thought when I dragged you away you'd go back to normal, but you're still hiding," he said.
Morel grit his teeth, causing more knives to shoot out from his back and spin around them. They moved in towards Gadfly, but he whipped his tail around and knocked them away. "You're missing some of your hearts too. Did you seriously remove them on your own? There's hardly any other titans around besides us, so it couldn't have been that dangerous," he said. "Don't tell me that you're actually trying to blend in with them?"
Morel moved his fingers, and the knives quickly stopped and sped right back towards Gadfly again. He continued knocking them away with his tail, still looking at Morel and continuing his questioning. "You have to know that there's no chance of that happening right? Like the moment they see what you look like, the moment they figure out what you are, it's over," he said.
"Would you shut up already!" Morel said, swinging at him with his other fist.
Gadfly reached up and caught it, his expression changing into one of anger. "I'm trying to help you, you dumb fuck." He suddenly headbutted him and Morel was knocked back through the air. He didn't get the chance to get very far, as Gadfly was already behind him, landing a kick to the back.
"I could understand those other guys! Even the goliath! I mean, it makes me sick to see any monster bowing their heads to those pieces of shit," Gadfly said angrily. "But you! A titan?! What in the hell is wrong with you?! All that power, all you could be doing, and you're ripping your hearts out and trying to blend in with them?!"
Morel grunted, but then turned around and held his hands out. He tried to drain Gadfly of his energy, but he once again zipped out of the way, rushing him and kicking him in the face. Morel winced, but quickly rebounded and tried to strike back. Gadfly's tail whipped around and struck him before he could land the hit though.
"What the hell would you know about how I fit in?! You don't know anything about me, so don't go trying to tell me how to live my life!" Morel growled.
Gadfly scoffed. "You're right. I don't know shit about you. But I knew mewmans. They're cruel, and stupid, and filthy little pieces of crap. And if you thought for a second making nice with them was gonna change anything then you're as dumb as they are," he said.
"Maybe that's how thing were back in your time, but-"
"Don't fucking tell me things have changed!" Gadfly snapped. "If they had you wouldn't be hiding in the fucking first place! We've been gone for over two thousand years, and you expect us to be happy because mewmans have decided to treat us slightly less shitty than they did before, bullshit!"
Morel snapped right back at him. "So you're just gonna kill them all?! Is that seriously how you think you're going to solve everything?! How the fuck does that make us any better than the royal family was back then?!"
Gadfly held his arms out. "Oh here we go with that shit again! They're not worth trying to prove to be better than! They're viruses, parasites that aren't good for anything except target practice!" he said as he got ready to strike again. "And that's exactly what I'm gonna do. They passed up the chance Python gave them, just like we knew they would, and now they're dead! You can either step aside, or die with them!"
Morel braced himself. "Not a freaking chance." Half of the knives began spinning around him, forming a dome. The other half he sent after Gadfly, who was narrowing his eyes.
He had thought he could talk some sense into the guy since he was a titan. An incubus of all people should have gotten how messed up mewmanity was. But it looked like he was going to half to beat some sense into him. Or just kill him.
"Dumbass…"
Corona moved out of the way of another piercing strike, raising her hand to try and cut off the Crimson Dragoon before he could catch himself. He tried to stab through the barrier, but unlike before he couldn't quite break through. Ever since she had dispersed the barrier around the battlefield, the quality of her smaller ones had increased.
It seemed she was concentrating more magic into them. It had to be quite an impressive amount to stop his strikes. But considering she was a Butterfly that was hardly surprising. "A valiant effort. But it will take more than this to stop me," Dragoon said, pulling his lance back.
He turned back around and launched himself at her again, and Corona narrowed her eyes. Trying to catch him after dodging wasn't working. She was going to have to confront him head on. She raised both of her hands, forming three barriers in front of her. With the speed he was moving at, she didn't have much time, and the barriers had to be formed rather close to her.
If he broke through them, there was little chance she would avoid his attack.
Dragoon's lance made contact with the first barrier, and while it cracked it, it didn't quite manage to break through. "Again, a valiant effort. But not enough." The aura around his body suddenly concentrated on the blade of the lance, which then crashed right through the first barrier. Corona looked shocked as it made its way to the second, only barely being slowed down before breaking through it as well.
Corona quickly focused all of her efforts on the last barrier, and Dragoon pressed the attack. She couldn't afford to fall here. There wasn't anybody else besides Morel who could possibly stop the Dragoon, and he was busy with Gadfly. She moved her hands, trying to push him back so she could surround and stop him.
But the Dragoon tightened his grip, pushing ahead even further. The barrier cracked, and though Corona did her best to try and sustain it, the lance soon pierced through it, slashing right into her side. She went wide eyed as the Dragoon pushed past her, frowning as he did so. "I pray you can forgive me, my lady. My lance was never meant to be pointed at the royal family…"
Corona fell back, heading towards the ground as she clutched her bleeding side...
A/N: The battle in the Cloud Kingdom kicks off, and Morel, Corona, and Puff all have their hands full! Is Puff going to be able to tangle with Ar-Janek?! Is Morel going to be able to get past Gadfly?! Is Corona down for the count?! Gonna have to keep reading to find out!
I don't see this second of chapter being as long as the last one. Probably just going to be three parts. Maybe two if I make the next one a much longer chapter. Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed!
