"AAAAAAHHHHHH!"
Fum swung his hammer, sending another group of rebels flying. Another leapt at him from his blind spot, and though he sensed the attack coming a blur came by and cut the rebel before he could swat him away. Vincenza landed and slid a few feet, spinning her scythe before looking up at Fum. "I've got your back," she said.
The giant smiled and nodded back towards her before turning around and swinging his arm, striking one of the golem that had been looming over them. It was knocked back and crashed onto the ground, scattering a few of the forces on both sides. Fee grabbed another golem and let out a yell before throwing it over his shoulder, away from any of their forces.
"Keep the golems from crashing down on ours! Try and keep them in the back line!" Fee yelled as he raised his broadsword and dragged it against the ground. The rebels nearby yelled as they were swept away by the wave of dirt and earth he sent out with the swing. "Keep an eye out for the other undead warriors! There's other strong magic signals here!"
"We need to get to Matrona," Fi said. He knew she was the one behind these golems. If they could take her down they could cut down on at least a third of the opposition they were facing now. He could sense her all the way in the back of the battlefield. It was odd. He thought she could be front and center. What was she waiting for?
Fee swung his broadsword, cutting another golem clean in half. "We shouldn't just rush for her! It's going to take all of us to bring her down, so we all need to find a way to break through!" he said. He wasn't going to make the mistake of underestimating her again.
Before he could push further into the enemy lines, Fo and Fum both sensed something. "Hey, something is headed this way!" Fo yelled, readying his flail. Fum prepared himself as well. Whatever it was, it was big. And it had a large amount of magic too. "It's moving through the ground, and fast!"
As it got closer, the two eldest brothers started to sense it too. The ground began to shake and become more unstable, and some of the others began to lose their footings. "What is this?!" Fum asked. It was almost like Fo's mud magic, but… different.
A figure suddenly shot out of the ground behind Fee, swinging something upwards towards his head. Fee turned around and raised his sword just in time to block it, and the shockwave from the clash blew both allies and enemies alike back away from them. Fee held his ground, but then went wide eyed when he saw who it was he was facing.
Fi narrowed his eyes. "Shit."
Fo's face paled. "That's…"
Fum was just confused. He had no idea who the woman who had just tried to knock his brother's head off was, but his brothers clearly did. "Hey, who is that?" he asked, looking over towards Fo. "How did she do that?"
The woman smiled as she pulled her club back and slung it over her shoulder. "That was some nice reaction time Fee. You really have gotten stronger… and bigger. I can't believe I have to look up to you now," she said.
Fee was silent for a moment, but then managed to smile. "It's good to see you again mom." The moment the words left his mouth, Fum's jaw dropped. That was… wait, it couldn't be. But when he looked at her closely… yeah, there was a resemblance he felt stupid for not seeing before. Especially her eyes. They were like Fo's, and he was the only one who was said to have her eyes.
That was their mom, standing right in front of them.
He felt a slap on the back, and looked over towards Fo. "Keep your guard up, mom isn't someone you can afford to be careless around," he warned. Fum glanced at all of his brothers, and saw they were already in battle mode.
"A-are you guys sure that-?"
"It's not a matter of whether we're sure or not. This is happening," Fi said sternly. "And you better not be getting in your head about this either. I don't want to have to get distracted having to slap sense into that empty of yours."
Fee raised his sword and pointed it towards their mother. "This is a sort of bittersweet reunion, I'm not gonna lie. But it's also sort of cool. The Ten were bringing back the greatest warriors in mewni's history, and here you are. That's our mom," he said, smirking proudly. "And now we get the chance to show you how much we've grown."
Dolores stared back at her children, and then suddenly teared up. "O-oh my goodness, you're all so grown up and mature now," she said. Seeing them from a distance she could tell how much they had changed, but seeing them up close the difference was even more stunning.
She wiped her face before smiling and raising her club. "Alright, if I'm being honest I'm still a little fuzzy on all the details! But I'm happy for the chance to see my boys in action! So c'mon, show your mama just how strong you've gotten," she said. She ran in, and Fee rushed back to meet her.
They both swung their weapons, letting loose another shockwave when they clashed. The rest of the brothers moved to follow up, but then all felt the ground tremble. For a moment they thought that Matrona was making her way onto the battlefield, but they could sense three other sources of large magic spread throughout the area.
"Looks like I'm not the only one she sent in," Dolores said as she tried to push Fee back. "I really wanted to see what all of you could do, but I doubt the rest of your little friends here will be able to handle them on their own."
Fee kept his eyes on his mother, but quickly thought about the situation. His mother was going to be tricky to deal with, and he would have preferred all of them be there to bring her down. But she was right. Not even the other giants would be able to handle the others storming the field right now.
"Fi and Fo, go to the two sources closest together," Fee ordered as she pushed his mother back. "Fum, go and get the-!"
"No, he should say and back you up!" Fee looked down and saw Vincenza standing nearby, looking up at him with a determined glare. "I'll go and handle the other one! Leave it to me!" The giant brothers worked best when they were together, and spreading them thin might backfire. Besides, she wasn't just going to leave everything to them. She would pull her own weight and more.
Before Fee could answer him, Fum spoke up. "Alright, we can totally leave it to her!" he said looking towards his brother. "After all, Vincenza is really strong! She can handle it!"
Vincenza did her best not to beam at the praise, while Fee just chuckled. "Well, if you say so. You stay here with me then," he said, gripping his sword. "Let's go!"
Fo and Fi both nodded before turning and running off, and Vincenza zipped away in a blur. Fum stepped forward beside his eldest brother and faced off against his mother, who smiled. "So, my oldest and my youngest. This should be fun," she said. "I especially wanna see how much you've grown, little Fum," she said sweetly.
Fum gripped his hammer and let out a breath. He had a lot of mixed feelings right now. He didn't get the chance to know his mother like his brother did, so this would be his first and last impression. He wanted to make it count and show her that… well, having him hadn't been for nothing.
"I'm ready, c'mon!"
"I can't see where she's coming from!"
"Where is she?!"
"I think she's-!"
A figure sped through the air, punching the giant in the side of the mouth and sending them toppling to the ground. The one closest to him turned to see what had happened, only to have the air suddenly knocked out of him with a blow to the gut. They went flying back, crashing into the ground and sliding.
The third giant nearby raised his weapon and swung at the small figure, but it moved out of the way before he could land the blow. "Damn it! She's so small and fast! How can she be a-?!" Something crashed down onto his head, knocking him face first into the ground.
The figure landed on top of the now unconscious giant, tightening her gloves as she looked down at him disappointedly. "You run into someone smaller than you and it throws you completely off. You guys still haven't learned how to tangle with someone who isn't the same size as you. It's pathetic," she said.
A few other knights nearby spotted the woman, but hesitated to strike at her. Not only was she blindingly fast, sut She had taken out three giants with ease. Just how much muscle was she packing in that tiny frame of hers?
She looked around and smirked. "C'mon! Don't tell me you're all afraid! I've barely even gotten warmed up!" she said before pounding her fist into her hand. "If you're worried about dying, then don't be! Consider it an honor! How many people get to say they were brought down by the Tiny Giant herself?!"
Nobody made a move, and she scoffed. "Bunch of cowards. But what should I expect from an army mostly made up of mewmans." Her own kind had gone down, but at least they'd gone down fighting. These lots were made up of spineless wimps.
Suddenly, before anyone could react, something came speeding right towards her. Vincenza raised her scythe as she approached the woman from behind. She swung, slashing at her as she slid by, then turned around and glared. That had been aimed for the back of her neck, so it should have been a sure kill. But… something had felt odd.
"It's lieutenant Vincenza!"
"She got her!"
"Yeah! Nice one!"
The other knights cheered, but Vincenza kept her eyes locked on the woman. She hadn't fallen yet, and it didn't look like she was going to. "So, looks there's someone here with a little backbone huh?" she asked, turning to face Vincenza. Her skin had turned to metal, and the scythe's blade hadn't even pierced her skin.
Vincenza had recognized the technique immediately. She had seen Fum do it plenty of times. "You're a giant," she said, narrowing her eyes. There was no other explanation she could think of for her being able to use that magic.
Pebble crossed her arms. "It's refreshing that someone actually got that right off the bat. I guess you know a lot of giants then?" she asked.
"Sort of," Vincenza answered, raising her scythe again.
"You're not shocked by how small I am?" Pebble asked.
Vincenza shrugged. "A little, but what does it matter? You're a small giant, and I'm a fairy who can't fly. So we're kind of in the same boat," she said.
Pebble laughed. "Is that right? You know, I think I like you kid," she said, rolling her shoulders back. "I might actually feel bad about killing you."
Vincenza gripped her weapon tightly. "I've fought with tougher giants than you…"
The two rushed at each other.
"This is fun, huh bro?!"
"Yeah, it's been a while since we got to go crazy like this!"
Mountain and Gorge both laughed as they swung their hammers around, knocking the Guard and Jagur kingdom knights aside like they were swatting flies. The two were unstoppable. The knights wonder if they could even feel their weapons, which couldn't even break their skin. There were ballistas firing at them from the castle, but they bounced off like they were nothing.
It was like the two were made of solid iron. They couldn't even be slowed down. Gorge laughed as he raised his weapon to strike again, but suddenly something came flying through the air and struck him in the face. He grunted and stumbled back, and before his brother could ask him what was going on, a fist crashed into nose. He slid back, grabbing his face before looking up to see to had attacked him and his siblings.
Fo pulled his flail back and spun it around in the air, smirking. Fi stood beside him, cracking his neck as he adjusted his knuckle dusters. "Quite messing with those small fry. Why don't you two pick on someone your own size?" Fi asked.
Mountain and Gorge stared at their descendants curiously. "Hey, those are the ones mama said she fought at the village, right?" Mountain asked.
"Yeah, they are…" Gorge answered. The two brothers both smiled. "Nice, it would have gotten boring if we just kept on stomping on those ants back there. This should be a lot more fun though. They're our descendants after all!"
Mountain nodded in agreement. "Yeah. But I was kind of hoping we'd get to fight the big and little one though. I mean, they seemed a lot stronger, right?" he asked.
"Oh c'mon! How could you even tell?!" Fo complined. He could understand Fee because… well, his eldest brother was huge. Size wasn't everything, but it sure as hell did help. But Fum hadn't even outgrown him yet. Why did they just assume he was stronger than him with a glance? They were right, but still.
Fi didn't seemed to let the statement bother him however. "Don't go thinking you drew the short stick. It wouldn't have mattered which one of us came over here. The same thing was gonna happen either way," he said before pointing at him. "We're gonna beat your ass, plain and simple."
Both Mountain and Gorge smiled at him. "Is that so? That's the spirit."
"But if you think this is gonna be easy, you're gonna be in for a huge mistake," Gorge said. Both he and Mountain prepared to charge. "We're about to show you why we took control of the tribe when Mama disappeared!"
"Get ready," Fi said, getting into a fighting stance.
Fi continued to spin the flail in the air, taking aim. "Ready when you are!"
Matrona continued to watch from her spot up above. Well, she wasn't literally watching. Her eyes were closed, and she had her hand on the ground. But she could feel what was happening through the earth. So the brothers had paired off. She had expected that of course. But she thought they'd at least have to split into three groups.
The pixie girl confronting Pebble was unexpected, but she would keep an eye on it to see how it played out. As for the others, she was eager to see who would win between the past and the present. Her descendants were strong, there was no doubt about that. But she hadn't sent any weaklings at them.
One of the greatest prides any giant could have was to see those of their line surpass the previous generation. Judging them by her strength was a big unfair, since there were hardly any titans outside of the Ten who could match her strength. Let alone giants. But this? This would prove a far more accurate test of their abilities.
"Show me something to be proud of little ones."
A/N:The battle of the Jaggy kingdom begins! Fum, Vincenza, and his brothers face off against his ancestors! How do you think the battles are gonna go?! There's definitely going to some drama with Dolores and her kids incoming, and how is Vincenza going to handle the Tiny Giant(and yes that name is a reference from what you think it is). Gonna have to keep reading to find out! This fight will have some pretty big character development for Fum, so I'm looking forward to it! Hope you guys are too!
