Everyone watched as mother and son clashed, their weapons yet again sending shockwaves through the air. Most of them hadn't gotten the chance to see giants fighting one another in person like this. They were used to seeing Fum just dominate or crush whoever he was up against. But this? This was completely different. How could figures who were so large move so quickly? It didn't make any sense.
Fee and Dolores kept swinging at one another, the sound of his broadsword and her club smashing against one another ringing through the air. "You know, I thought it was silly when you started using swords," Dolores said smiling. "But you've gotten pretty good with that thing."
The eldest of the giant brothers laughed as he brought his arms back. "I haven't even gotten warmed up yet!" he said before swinging at her. Dolores looked shocked, and she quickly realized she wasn't going to be able to block or counter this one. She leapt up into the air, right over the blade.
The force of the swing blew a few people back, but left Fee open. Dolores raised her club and got ready to strike at him, but then Fum cut in from her side. He yelled out before swinging at her with his hammer, but Dolores raised her club and blocked it. She was knocked back but landed on her feet.
"Nice strike, but you gave yourself away a little there," she said looking towards Fum. The young giant looked somewhat nervous, and gripped his weapons tightly.
Fee stepped beside him. Even since the fight started Fum had been… off. He wasn't fighting badly per se, but it seemed like he was sort of holding back. "Are you alright kid?" Fee asked, looking worried. He couldn't afford to have him being off his game
"I'm fine," Fum said, though he didn't sound too convincing. Both Fee and Dolores could tell that he was hesitating before each strike.
"I hope so, because I'm about to start getting serious," Dolores said as she slammed her hands onto the ground. Chunks of each began to rise from the ground. One of them rose up near Fum, and then tried to swat it away. But when he made contact with it, his hand bounced right off.
"What the…?"
It felt strange. Soft. Like he was trying to punch dough. "This is mom's magic," Fee explained. "We're gonna have to move carefully. No powering through this…"
Fum watched as his mother started to sink into the ground, the earth around her turning just as malleable as the chunks of earth around them. "Let's go boys!" She dove underground, and Fee and Fum both stood back to back and tried to sense where she was coming from.
Vincenza moved back just in time to avoid the metal fist coming towards her face. She spun around and then swung her scythe, aiming right for her opponent's neck. But, just like the last few times, the blade slid off of her without actually doing any damage. She grit her teeth and jumped back at Pebble swung at her again.
"You're pretty quick on your feet kid, but that won't mean a thing if you can't actually hurt me," Pebble said looking annoyed. They had been at this for a while now. Pebble would swing at the pixie, Vincenza would dodge it, and then try and fail to counter attack with her scythe.
It was a dangerous exchange for Vincenza. She may have been able to avoid her, but Pebble was by no means slow. In fact her reaction time and reflexes almost matched Fum's. Not to mention that, despite her being mewman sized, she still had the strength of a giant. She could feel the force behind each swing.
One misstep, one lucky blow, and Vincenza would be at an instant disadvantage. Or worse. She couldn't keep doing this. She needed to find some way to dish out some damage. "Don't get lost in thought kid!" Pebble charged at her again, and Vincenza leapt over her right before she smashed her fist into the ground.
The moment she landed, she turned around to see Pebble already lunging at her again. She ducked and then tried to back away, but Pebble was staying on her. "You can't keep avoiding me forever! Eventually I'm gonna catch you and break that scrawny little neck of yours!" she shouted.
She reached for said neck, trying to grab it and crush it in her hands, but Vincenza leaned back and avoided her grasp. She spun around on her heel and then slashed against her with her scythe, but it once again bounced off of her skin. "How many times are you going to do that? I told you it's pointless," she said.
She rushed forward again, trying to tackle her with her shoulder, but Vincena jumped up and kicked off of her, managing to get herself some distance. She just needs some time to think. To figure out how she was going to hit her with something that would actually stick. "You're not out of my range kid…"
Vincenza looked surprised as Pebble stomped her foot, and suddenly the ground shook. An earth spike shot out from the ground, and Vincenza twisted her body and just barely managed to avoid it. Pebble smirked before punching the ground, and more earth spikes started shooting up around her.
The knight began moving away and dodging each of the ones that came her way. Pebble really wasn't going to allow her a moment to slow down, was she? "C'mon, think Vincenza, think! What would Fum do?" she muttered as she sliced through another earth spike that came her way.
Fum… Fum would have probably just powered through all of this and broken right through that iron like skin of hers. But she couldn't do that. In terms of raw power, she just wasn't able to keep up. So how did she compensate? "What part of 'stop zoning out' don't you get kid?!"
Vincenza gasped as she looked up and saw that Pebble had already closed the distance between them. How had she covered so much ground in such a short amount of time? She raised her arms to defend herself, but the moment Pebble's fist made contact with her she was sent flying back.
All the air left her lungs as she hit the ground and slide, and a wave of pain went through her whole body. It had hurt, even more than she thought it would. Something might have been broken, and she was pretty sure that if it wasn't for her armor she might have black out just now.
"Finally got you, ya little gnat," Pebble said happily. "Was totally a pain though. Usually I'm the one who's zipping around everyone else. But like I said, doesn't matter how much faster you are if ya can't hurt me."
She raised her hand in the air, and a large chunk of earth was raised up. She brought her arm back and got ready to hurl it at Vincenza, who was forcing herself back up to her feet. "Time to crush ya!" she hurled the chunk of earth towards Vincenza, who took a deep breath and tried to regain her composure.
Maybe she was overthinking this. She might not have been able to win in terms of power, but that didn't mean she couldn't still overwhelm her. She just needed to use her own advantages to do it. Which in this case was speed.
She rushed forward, ducking right under the boulder and speeding towards Pebble. The tiny giant whistled. "So, you still got some fight in you huh?" she asked. "Well c'mon then! Let's do this!" Vincenza raised her scythe, and Pebble prepared to brush off another swing and then counter, but Vincenza didn't follow through.
Instead, she began spinning around at a blinding speed, turning into a drizzling blur of wind and blades. Pebble raised her arms as Vincenza continued to spin towards her, and once she made contact the sounds of metal against metal rang through the air as the scythe continued to rattle against her guards at a machine gun like pace.
Pebble held her ground. "So you're gonna try to make up for strength with just speed huh? Not a bad strategy, but if you think I can't hold out longer enough to beat you, you don't know who you're messing with!" She brought one of her arms back and swung. Even if she couldn't exactly see Vincenza, she was bound to hit something.
Vincenza spun around her fist. "I'm not the only one who wasn't listening. I told you, I've faced giants stronger than you." Pebble braced herself for another blow, but was surprised when Vincenza instead kept on running. She sped far, far off into the distance, and soon enough she was out of sight.
Pebble stared at her for a few moments, clearly confused. "What the…?" She narrowed her eyes. Was all the bravado just to make an opening so she could run away? What a disappointment. She had been looking for a proper right, not as… wait… She could still feel her through the earth. Picking up speed, and… turning around.
She braced herself as she saw Vincenza coming back around. "Oh, so that's your game, huh?" Pebble said, smirking. "Come on then!"
Vincenza yelled out as she rushed back towards her, swinging her scythe. Pebble swung at her, but she passed by so quickly that the punch missed by quite a bit. Vincenza slashed at her side, and then kept going, still picking up more speed. Pebble looked down at her side. The blow hadn't broken skin, but it did leave a small scratch.
She could already feel her circling back around though, and turned to swing at her again. This time Vincenza moved so fast that she actually blew Pebble back a bit. But when the tiny giant swung her fist again, it had come far closer than she'd like. "I'm picking up speed but she's still timing the punches? She's crazy," Vincenza muttered.
The last punch had done some major damage when she had her guard up. Running into her fist at this speed would be a death sentence. But she couldn't stop right now. This was the only shot she had at victory. She continued moving forward, picking up even more speed and circling around again.
She couldn't move as fast as Lenora, not without building up enough momentum. And each time she circled around Pebble would have more time to get her timing down, so she had to try and end this quickly. Pebble meanwhile was already cocking her fist back. The scythe had left yet another cut on her. The kid really was willing to put this all on a game of chicken. She sort of respected that.
"Now this is the kind of fight worth being woken up for…"
Vincenza rushed at her again, bringing the scythe back just as Pebble swung. Her fist came even closer this time, and VIncenza had to move her head to avoid it. The scythe hit the side of Pebble's leg, this time actually drawing blood. Vincenza was off again, and Pebble smiled. "One more should do it," she said, rolling her shoulder back.
It was going to be a close one, but she was sure she had the timing down this time. She was going to knock this pixie girl's head off. "Let's go!"
Vincenza swerved around and began approaching her again. "I'm gonna finish it," she said, a determined look in her eyes. She had enough speed and momentum, and she knew exactly where to strike. "Let's do this!"
What happened next went so fast that nobody who had been looking their way had been able to tell what happened. Vincenza had rushed at Pebble as the tiny giant swung at her. Her fist was right on track to collide with the pixie's face, and then… Pebble saw the glint of her scythe's blade.
VIncenza was gone. She had just seemed to vanish. And Pebble looked stunned, not realizing what had happened. But then everything started to set in. Her falling back from the force that Vincenza blew by her with, the blood spraying through the air, and the fact that there was nothing where her right arm used to be.
She heard a thud, which she could only assume was the now severed limb hitting the ground behind her. She stumbled back, but managed to stay on her feet. "You're gotta be kidding-" Another blur came by, and this time she felt a slash across the left side of her torso. "Me?"
Pebble stumbled forward, eyes wide in shock. She looked forward as Vincezna, who had finally stopped and was struggling to catch her breath. A cut that deep and wide was fatal even to giants. "I can't believe you actually did it…" Pebble muttered.
Vincenca turned around to face her, still panting. "I knew I had to aim for your arm. You kept getting closer and closer, and the more you did the bigger chance I had of taking it. It was easy from there," she said. "Sorry if it seemed like I suckered you, but I couldn't think of anything else to do."
Pebble chuckled. "Don't apologize kid. What you did was pretty damn risky. One little slip up and you'd have had your head knocked off. It was a big ass game of chicken and you won. I can't not respect the hell out of that," she said. "I don't know what giants you're running with, but they've clearly rubbed off on you. For a pixie, you're actually pretty badass."
"Thanks for the compliment I guess," Vincenza said. Pebble let out a breath, and slowly started to wither away. "And thanks for pushing me. I never had to fight like that before."
"Well don't be shy about doing it again. Sometimes you gotta be bullheaded. And don't forget just because you're small that they shouldn't be scared shitless by you!"
Pebble continued to smile as she completely withered away, and Vincenza watched her fade away. Despite the fact that she was an enemy, she couldn't help but feel respect towards her. The Tiny Giant was a fitting name for her.
Fi moved out of the way of another punch, knocking Gorge's fist aside before swinging back and hitting him right in the nose. The other giant stumbled back, right in the nose. Gorge grunted, but then smirked back at him. "I have to admit kid, you're pretty damn good. But then again you're our descendants. I'd be disappointed if you weren't."
The young giant grunted back in response. "Yeah, well you're gonna be pretty damn impressed when I knock your goddamn teeth out," he said.
Gorge cracked his neck. "You got mama's fighting spirit too. But don't think I'm gonna go easy on you just because of your family," he said, stomping forward. He swung his arm, and through Fi blocked it, he was sent sliding back. In terms of power these guys were like Fee. He wasn't going to out muscle him, he was going to have to beat him with technique.
"Looks like you got a fighter on your hands Gorge," Mountain said with a scowl on his face. "Too bad I got the runt." He swung at Fo, who dodged the blow and stepped back from him. "Stop running away and fight me, you coward!"
He continued to swing at Fo, who continued to skillfully dodge. He wasn't trying to sting back like his brother however. "I am fighting, just in my own way!" he said, smirking. He may not have been as skilled at close combat as his brothers were, but he knew how to keep from getting hit. Most giants saw lack of scars as a sign of weakness or cowardice, unless a giant was particularly durable like Fee.
But Fo's ability to be elusive was something he took pride in. Plus the pissed off look on his opponents faces was priceless. "If you're not gonna fight me then-"
Fo dodged another punch, swinging his fist up as he did. It didn't even seem to be remotely aimed at Mountain however, and the elder giant looked confused until he felt a slab of earth slam into his side. He winced as Fo chuckled. "I never said I wasn't going to fight back."
Mountain narrowed his eyes. "Why do I get the feeling that you're going to piss me off," he said, popping his knuckles.
"Well yeah, I'm pretty good at it," Fo confirmed.
Mountain growled and then lunged at him again, but Fo stepped back, kicking his foot up slightly and sending a small boulder shooting from the ground and at his face. The elder giant moved his head to the side and avoided it, only to feel one of his feet sinking. The ground beneath him had turned to mud. "What the-?"
Fo pulled his hand back, and the boulder Mountain dodged stopped in midair and came back down towards him. It slammed into the back of his head, and Fo laughed as he stumbled forward. "Why you little-!" He prepared to charge at Fo again, but then suddenly something slammed into him.
Fi had thrown Gorge over his shoulder, hurling him right into his twin brother. "Don't let your guard down dumbasses," Fi said. Fo snickered at the two, who both looked more than a little annoyed.
Mountain and Gorge both got up and dusted themselves of. "This ain't working Gorge, I though fighting them separately would be enough, but we really do need to take this seriously," Mountain said.
Gorge smiled and cracked his neck. "Yeah, we're gonna show you guys why we were the ones who stepped up when Mama left. Time for some combos!" Both Fi and Fo braced themselves, but when Mountain and Gorge moved, they both went at the former.
Fi was surprised, but reacted quickly. He blocked the first few blows, but when he threw a counter back at Gorge, the giant took the hit on purpose to get a hold of his arm. Before Fi could even start to try and free himself, Mountain moved in and slammed his fist into his gut. Fi felt the air knocked leave his lungs, but once again didn't have much time to let it set in before they attacked again.
Gorge kept his hold on his arm, throwing him over his shoulder and slamming him to the ground. He stomped on his shoulder and pulled on the captured limb, and Mountain laughed as he swung down and began punching at his chest and gut.
"Fi!"
Fo moved in to try and help his brother, but the moment they felt him come within reach they both turned on him instead. Fo panicked and quickly tried to step back with Gorge lunged at him, but then tripped on something. Mountain had shifted the earth behind his foot to make him fall.
Before he hit the ground, Gorge reached out and grabbed the front of his shirt. "Finally caught you…" He pulled him forward, lifting his fist and slamming it into his face. He laughed as he wailed on Fo a few times, and when the younger giant tried to raise his hands to shift the earth to defend himself or escape, Mountain stopped down and kept it firmly in place.
Fi managed to collect himself enough to start getting up, but when he tried to go after Mountain, Gorge turned around and threw his younger brother at him. They both grunted as Fo slammed into Fi's side, knocking them both to the ground. "You thinking what I'm thinking, brother?" Mountain asked.
"Definitely, brother! It's time to pay respects to mama!" Gorge shouted as he began running. Mountain ran alongside him, the two of them leaping up into the air.
This was always their favorite way to finish a fight. A move they came up with to honor their mama after she had fallen in battle. Fi and Fo, who were both still dazed and unaware of just what was happening, had no idea the other two giant brothers were falling down towards them at a blinding speed. Mountain raised his elbow, while Gorge dropped knee first.
"TitanFall!"
The impact shook the entire battlefield, sending a cloud of dirt and dust flying up into the air. Everyone around them turned their attention away from their own battles to see just what had happened. Most of them had been too busy to see how the giant brothers had leapt into the air. Had a meteor just shot down from the sky?
When the dust started to clear, they could see Gorge and Mountain chuckling as they walked alongside each other. "Nice one, brother!" Mountain cheered.
"Yeah, we showed them!" Gorge said, pounding his chest. "They might be pretty impressive apart, but their teamwork sucks! They don't make use of the brotherly bond between giants!"
Giants were warriors by birth. And while they rarely had to find themselves working together to bring down an opponent, save for a hunt, when they did good things always happened. Mountain and Gorge had been known for their infamously cohesive teamwork. They were both the children of Matrona, and though apart neither was as strong as their mama, together they could even give her a run for her money.
Mountain crossed his arms haughtily. "Yeah, those two are way too different. Ones good at fighting, ones good at magic. But if they can't match together well, what's the point?" He and his brother were both evenly matched in might and magic, so they worked together easily.
Gorge chuckled again. "Take a few more years to polish your teamwork, then maybe next time you can- gah!" He winced as he felt something strike him in the back of the head. The small boulder hit the ground near them, and they both turned around.
Fo and Fi were both on their feet, albeit looking rather tired and bruised up. "Where the hell are you two going? You're acting awfully cocky for someone who hasn't won yet," Fi said, wiping some of the blood off of his forehead.
Fo glared, one of his eyes twitching. "I got to be honest. I'm a little bit pissed off right now." He hadn't gotten beaten up like that since the last time he was dumb enough to challenge Nalfi to a dual. "And what the hell was that about our teamwork?"
Mountain and Gorge both smirked. "So, you're still on your feet. Looks like you really are mama's descendants. But it's still true. Our teamwork is way better than yours. As long as it's two on two, no way we're gonna lose," he said.
Fi cracked his neck and then raised his fist again. "Let me let you in on a little secret, you overgrown mama's boys. Out of the four giant brothers, do you know which two of us annoy each other the most?" he asked.
Mountain and Gorge looked confused as Fo placed his hands on the ground. "It's definitely the two of us. I mean this guy is way too uptight. And apparently I talk too much or something," he said. "But still, if we're talking about teamwork…"
"Nobody beats it!"
Fi rushed in, fist raised and ready to strike at the two. Mountain and Gorge both prepared themselves, but right when they were about to move, Fo waved both of his hands. The dirt beneath began to loosen, causing the two to stumble forward. Fi struck Mountain, hitting him right in the chin. He then spun his body around and landed a kick to the side of his head.
Mountain winced, but managed to grab onto his leg. "Not bad, but you're gonna have to do better to beat us!" Gorge came up behind Fi, ready to strike him while his brother had him held down. Right as he swung his fist however, Fo moved his hand again. The ground beneath both Fi and Mountain shifted, turning them around so that Mountain was the one who got hit rather than Fi. "Shit!"
Fo laughed. "You think because I'm good at magic and he's good at close combat we don't mix?! Get real! We work together well BECAUSE we're opposites!" he said, swinging both arms up. A slab of earth shot up from beatht Gorge, slamming into his chin and knocking him back.
He fell backward, but before he hit the ground, Fi grabbed onto the front of his shirt and pulled him forward. "If we're both good at the opposite thing, we cover each other's weaknesses, dumbass!" Fi shouted, raising his knee and hitting him in the face.
He brought his fist back and started punching him in the face, and then Mountain tried to move in and help his brother, Fo shifted the earth again. A jagged piece of earth popped from the ground and hit Mountain in the shift, making him wince and trip forward. Without missing a beat, Fi kicked backward and nailed him in the face.
Mountain grunted as blood gushed from his nose, but he didn't have much time to gather himself before Fi kicked off the ground, locking both of his legs around his neck. He grabbed onto Gorge's neck as well, catching him in a chokehold. "Fo, now!"
"Got it!" Fo slammed his hand on the ground, causing the earth beneath them to buck and sending his brother, as well as Mountain and Gorge, flying high up into the air. Fi kept his hold on both of them.
"That little combo move you pulled on us was pretty cool. I think we should try one out for ourselves. Let us know what you think!" Fi shouted as he suddenly began spinning. Mountain and Gorge yelled as all three of them began to descend, still spinning around at quite an impressive speed.
Once they started to get closer to the ground Fo smiled and stomped both of his feet. Two slabs of earth shot up into the air, heading rights towards them. Fi let go of Mountain and Gorge just before they slammed into them. The edges of the rock slabs hit them both in the back, and the two giant brothers both heard and felt something cracking in their bodies.
Fi spread his hands and feet out, using the two earth slabs to slide safely back down to the ground. Once he landed, he ran over towards Fo, who dropped his hands. The two slabs of earth broke apart, and Mountain and Gorge both began falling towards the ground. "You ready?!" Fi asked, stepping beside his brother.
"Hell yeah!" Fo shouted.
As Mountain and Gorge approached the ground, they saw the two prepared to strike. "Hey brother, I think… those two are actually a pretty good team after all," Gorge said. He was pretty sure his spine was shattered from that Earth slab, and he couldn't move even if he wanted to.
Mountain was in the same boat. "Yeah, guess we underestimated them again. But even if we hadn't, I'm not sure we would have won… it was fun though!" he said, smirking.
"Yeah! Hopefully these guys give mama a good fight!" Gorge said laughing.
"Now!"
Fi and Fo both swung their arms towards one another, their fist colliding. Right before Mountain and Gorge hit the ground, two massive walls of stone shot up and smashed the elder giant brother between them. A few people were blown back by the impact, and when the walls crumbled there was nothing left but dirt and dust, which quickly got blown away by the wind.
"I don't feel anything. I think we got them!" Fo said, smirking.
"Damn, those guys were a real pain in the ass. I need a drink," Fi said annoyed.
"Tell me about it… but hey, they were onto something with that super cool tag move of theirs! We should definitely try something like it! Like with all four of us!"
"I'm not wasting time coming up with stupid shit like that if we don't have to. Now quit your yappin and c'mon. We have to go help Fee and Fum deal with Ma."
He started off towards where he sensed his mother and brothers, and Fo ran after him. "I'm just saying, a move like that would be totally badass, yeah? Like how could we fit Fee and Fum into our attack from earlier! Maybe Fee could jump up with you and…"
Fi groaned as his brother went on. Family could be such a pain in the ass.
A/N: What's eating at Fum about this battle? He's never been hesitant to fight before? Vincenza manages to take out the Tiny Giant (and yes, that name was very much intentional lol)! And Fi and Fo have taken out Mountain and Gorge! Giants don't go down easy! Next chapter the giant brothers have to deal with their mother! Will it be easy with it being four on one? Or does she have a few surprises in for them? And Matrona is going to be stepping onto the battlefield soon! The mother of Earth is gonna show just why she's considered a deity among giants! Hope you guys enjoyed!
