Lilli had known this fight wasn't going to be easy. When she had seen the Borro's ability, she had hoped she was wrong about who he was. But when he said his name, she knew that this was going to be even harder than she had thought.

The legend of Borro was one that had been born so many generations ago that it was a borderline myth. No one knew if such a warrior, one who could contend with even the mightiest of beasts outside of their tribe's territory, had ever excited. Or could exist. But seeing him here now, there was no doubt.

He was real, and the stories she had told to her younger brother about his namesake were not at all exaggerated. In a matter of moments he'd completely turned the numbers advantage against them. She was lucky enough to be fighting just one of them, which she assumed was the originally.

But the others? They were being swarmed like crazy.

Oswald seemed to be doing alright, managing to cut them down at a quick enough pace to keep from being overwhelmed. Each time he did, they vanished into a puff of smoke. The others however were doing all they could just to stay on their feet.

She hoped if she was able to take out the original then the copies would vanish, but that was either said that done.

CLANG!

CLANG!

Their needles clashed, and they both tried to push one another back. Lilli was barely holding her ground against him, while Borro didn't didn't seem to be struggling much at all. They had been stabbing, lunging, and parrying one another for a while now, and while neither had landed a solid blow, the momentum seemed to be swinging in Borro's favor.

"You're fairly skilled for someone so young," Borro said, pushing her back even further. Lilli stepped back and then tried to lunge at him, but he deflected the blow. "Tell me, what is one of our kind doring involved in this battle? The Brownies have always been one to hide and avoid conflict when possible."

Lilli got back into her fighting stance and went at him again. "I'm fighting to help my friends! They promised to help my people be able to see and move across the rest of mewni freely!" she said, swinging at him with all she had.

Borro smiled as he blocked her. "Is that right? That's good! When I was alive we weren't even considering anything like that! And they gave that task to someone like you?"

"I accepted it myself," Lilli clarified. "Our tribe… it's goin through some hard times. I'm the oldest and strongest, so it's my job to do everything I can to help."

Borro stared at her with a strange expression. The look on her face… It almost reminded him of his father and brothers. "That's a lot of responsibility for someone so young. You must have a good head on your shoulders. It took me going through quite a lot of make me take my own duties seriously."

He readied himself to attack again. "Alright, I've decided I'm going to try and help you as much as I can. I'm sure you probably guessed this, but if you're going to take out the copies, then you need to take out my main body. Which is this one. It's going to be tricky though. I'm not really in control, so I can't just let you."

Lilli had already guessed as much. "Anything else you can tell me?"

"It's probably better if you do this yourself. Trying to get the others to pick me out will just cause more confusion," he explained.

Lilli nodded, and then charged at him again. He got ready to meet her, but then suddenly a shadow loomed over him. He jumped up just before Oswald's blade managed to pierce him. Both Oswald and Lilli frowned. That had been so close!

Borro landed and then got some distance between himself and Oswarld. He scurried between a few people, but was surprised to find that the knights eyes were stilled locked on him.

As someone who specializes in stealth and information gathering, Osward had quite a sharp pair of eyes. While most might not have been able to keep up with such a small target in the sea of bodies that flooded the battlefield, he was more than capable of keeping tabs on the Brownie.

He slashed another copy who had jumped at him, and then turned towards Lilli. "I'll help you try to corner him. between the two of us we should be able to land a killing blow."

Lilli nodded. "Right!"

She began running, and Osward followed after her. Usually he would be worried about staying small while so many larger enemies and comrades were around her. But she stayed calmed and managed to easily maneuver her way through the forest of moving feet and legs rather easily.

She and Oswald slipped between the bodies, cutting down all the copies in their path as they zeroed in on the original. Borro was quite impressed, but knew that keeping up with him was only the first hurdle for them.

Lilli reached him first, jumping up at him and then slashing at him with her sword. He moved out of the way, then twisted his body and just barely avoided another slash from Oswald. "You're going to have to be quicker!" Borro said, splitting himself apart into four.

Lilli panicked for a moment, not able to tell which was which. But Oswald acted quickly, flicking his sword and striking all four of them in quick succession. The copies all disappeared into a puff of smoke, while the original managed to block the blow. "I'll keep him from splitting apart!" Oswald said.

"Right!" Lilli pressed on, going to a stab. Borro blocked it and continued to jump away.

"Seeing you work together with people outside the tribe makes me pretty happy!" Borro said, a smirk on his face. "I always wanted my tribe to branch out and make themselves more known to mewni, and you're doing just that."

Despite herself, Lilli cracked a smile. "Everyone knows about what you did, you know. You're a hero to everyone in my tribe. My little brother is named after you. I even put him to bed with stories about it," she said.

"Well, if you defeat me then maybe you'll have a few stories of your own!"

He tried to split apart again, but Oswald kept on slashing at him, cutting down any copies that he tried to spawn. Lilli focused on the original, trying to land a killing blow. As they kept fighting, more of the copies around them were spawning copies of their own.

"We have to hurry! Everyone is going to get overwhelmed if we don't finish this up soon!" Oswald yelled.

Lilli tried her best to go for a strike that would finally bring Borro down, but he kept on knocking away everything she threw at him. "This isn't going to work. It's just drawing everything out. You need to think of something else," Borro said.

She wracked her brain trying to think of something, anything to finish this.

What could she do?

"You know, I bet you could probably use earth magic if you wanted."

Lilli looked up at Fum, who was taking a break from that tribal dance he did when he was training. "You think so?" she asked, tilting her head.

Fum nodded. "Well yeah. You move through the ground pretty easily, and Corona says that Brownies and Giants have a lot of the same… uh, I think she said something like 'features'. I think you could do it," he said.

Lilli rubbed the back of her head. "I'm not sure. I mean, the magic that you guys use is so… big." She had seen Fum in action once. The way he so easily moved and altered the landscape around him was downright amazing.

She couldn't see any Brownie, even herself, being able to do anything like that. It might have felt cliche, but she felt too small to do something like that.

Fum nodded. "I'm pretty sure you could. Look, I can show you how to do something super simple," he said, getting into a strange looking stance. Lilli looked at him curiously, wanting to see just what he was going to do. "All you have to do is take the palm of your hand, and then…"

"What the-?!"

"Whoa!"

Lilli grew in size, shooting up to the size of a giant. She towered over everyone on the battlefield, who looked up at her with shocked expressions. Oswald was curious as to why she'd chosen to grow to this size, while Borro was just stunned. He had seen her shrink down so he knew she could change sizes, but not to this extent.

It was no wonder she had been the one her people sent.

Lilli lifted her palm, doing her best to focus. Fum had told her to feel the earth. To try and connect with it. She brought it down to the ground, slamming her hand down. For a moment, nothing happened. She thought he might have botched it.

But then the ground suddenly seemed to pop. It was like the whole area had hiccuped, and everyone was knocked a foot up into the air. The sudden shift had caused all of Borro's copies to disappear, while the original was sent flying up into the air. Lilli reacted quickly, reaching down and grabbing Borro before hurling him up into the air.

She then reached down towards Oswald. "Hurry! Before he makes more of himself!" she called. Oswald nodded and then grabbed onto her hand. She raised her arm and flung him up towards Borro. Oswald went flying through the air towards Borro, his sword raised and ready to strike.

Borro hummed. It was smart to get him up into the air like this. It would give everyone on the ground some breathing room. But unless they could keep him from getting back down, it was only going to be a stopgap. Oswald was thinking the exact same thing, and he wasn't planning on giving him a chance to slip away.

As he got closer, Borro began making more copies of himself to throw Osward off, but the captain tightened his grip on his sword and let out a breath.

He swung the blade at a shockingly fast speed, slicing the copies between him and Borro apart. The Brownie continued to make more of himself, but Osward swung faster and faster, determined to slice his way to the original.

Borro was making copies as fast as he could, but Oswald was cutting them down just as quickly as they were being made. The last thing he needed was another army of him raining down on their allies. But he still had his eyes on the original. "Now!"

He swung his sword, cutting through a few of the copies and slashing the original across the chest. Borro's eyes went wide, and the rest of his copies vanished into thin air. Oswald let out a breath as she sheathed his sword, and they both fell towards the ground. Borro smiled as he sped towards the ground, eyes locked onto Lilli.

"A Brownie turning into a giant, and using giant magic. Now that's just amazing," he said, feeling more than a little pride swelling up in his chest. He had been worried about how his tribe was going in a world that had changed so much, but seeing someone like Lilli around looking after them… well, he felt pretty comfortable leaving it up to her.

His body vanished, smirk still on his face, and as Oswald approached the ground Lilli reached up and caught him. "Are you okay?" she asked.

Oswald nodded. "Yeah, I'm alright. And thanks for catching me."

"No problem." She looked back up to where Burro had disappeared. He seemed like a pretty nice guy. She wished she could have gotten the chance to talk to him more.

But at least he seemed happy. Or at least she thought he was. She was pretty sure he was smiling before she had vanished. She pushed the thought back for now and turned back to the rest of the enemy forces. "We still have a battle to win!" she said.

Oswald nodded. "Yeah! Let's go!"

He drew his sword and leapt down into the fight, while Lilli raised her now giant needle and swung down, dragging it across the crowd of rebels and raiders. Borro's copies had thrown them into a bit of disarray. It was time to take back control.

Arty slid back, holding his halbert firmly in his hand. He tried to catch his breath as he glared at Sigrin. The elder Tiefling stood in her fighting stance, her spear and shield raised as he looked ready to charge in again.

She did just that, but a blast of air shot towards her from her side. She raised the shield and blocked it, being pushed back slightly, but holding her ground. Reishi cursed under her breath. Her reflexes were on a whole different level. They couldn't land a solid hit on her. And what they couldn't land didn't really rattle her.

"Give it up. You're not able to keep up with me. You're too inexperienced," Sigrin said, staring down at Arty. Her eyes then moved towards Reishi. "And her magic isn't able to harm me either."

Reishi looked annoyed. She would have preferred using her fire magic. That was her most powerful element and her usual go to. But she knew from her time with Arty that it wouldn't do much. Tiefling were highly resistant to fire. At best it would just be mildly annoying.

Arty tried to move in and strike while she was looking away, but Sigrin reacted without even turning around. She raised herself up on her tail, dodging his halbert. Arty swung at her again, but she twisted her body to dodge once more. "It's useless," she said, swinging her spear down at him.

Arty leaned back, the tip of the spear just barely missing the tip of his nose. Sigrin pushed herself forward with her tail, ramming into Arty with his shield. He slid back, but quickly balanced himself.

"You're never going to defeat me. And even if you could, it'd do you know good. The Ten aren't going to be defeated, nor should they be," Sigrin said, shaking her head. "This war is what's going to finally return the monster's lands back to them. To right the wrongs done to us in history. Why would you fight against that?"

Arty didn't answer. He hadn't reclaimed his notebook, and even if she did understand sign language he doubted she'd want to hear what he had to say. "You know times have changed," Reishi called out. "Not like it's all sunshine and rainbows. But the Ten are probably just going to make things worse when this is all said and done."

Sigrin glared at her. "And how exactly?"

"The peace between mewmans and-"

"PEACE?!" Sigrin said in disbelief. "Mewmans don't want peace! They never have, and they never will! All they want is blood and dominance! It's all they ever wanted!"

"I'm not saying things aren't shaky but-"

"The mewmans, the kingdoms, took everything from me! My life included! I refuse to allow them to continue it!" She raised her spear and shield again. "I can't imagine that you two haven't suffered under their reign, so defending them is downright unforgivable. I will not let you or anyone else stand in our way. Every last mewman must be wiped out, no exceptions. Once the deed is done, you'll see how much better off mewni will be. Our people will be able to flourish, just like we did before."

Arty balled his fist up, looking more than a little upset. Rather than raise his weapon however, he walked over to where his notebook was knocked away and picked it up. He started writing down something, and both Reishi and Sigrin looked confused. Reishi made her way over towards him, and he handed the note towards her.

Reishi looked over it, and then glanced back at Arty. "You want me to read this?" He nodded back in response. "Alright then." She looked back towards Sigrin, who raised an eyebrow. "I'm guessing this is mostly directed towards you."

"Mewmans have done a lot of bad things. To a lot of people. Even me. But I know plenty of mewmans, even royals, who have looked out for monsters too. Who have helped and saved them. And who fought beside me," she said. "You were hurt, and it's not something easy to forget. To anybody. And maybe you never will. But-"

"Save your words," Sigrin said, cutting her off. "I don't care to hear them. Sweet sayings and sentiment isn't going to change anything boy. Only actions will. And the only actions worth taking is dealing with the mewmans."

Arty was surprised for a moment, but then felt a hand on his shoulder. Reishi had an annoyed look on her face. "No, she's right. Your words are wasted on her," she said, raising her staff. "So let's show her by taking some action, and kicking her ass."

The younger Teifling stared back at her, and then nodded before writing something else down. Reishi looked over it, and then looked slightly surprised. "Wait, what? Are you sure?" she asked. Arty nodded, a determined look on his face. She sighed. "Alright, if you say so." Slick really was having a bad influence on this kid. "Let's do it."

Sigrin grunted. "I don't know what plan you have up your sleeves, but it doesn't matter. I'll take you both down, and then go back after that prince…"

Arty gripped his weapon and got ready to charge. Slick was dealing with one of the Ten right now, and he had left him and Reishi to handle this while he did. He wasn't going to let him down. He might not have been a full fledged knight yet, but he was the squire of one of the Calamities. And he was going to live up to that title.

He charged in, rushing right at Sigrin, who charged back. They met in the middle, and Arty swung his halbet at her legs. She flipped over him and then turned around, stabbing at him with her spear. But before it could make contact, something appeared around him. A barrier of wind was not covering him, pushing the spear aside.

Sigrin looked over towards Reishi, who was raising her staff and looking focused. So, she was going to drop offense and just focus on supporting the little one was she? That was fine. It just meant she would take her out first. She turned around to do just that, but Reishi raised her staff higher.

"Nuh-uh…"

The barrier around Arty suddenly spread, growing just big enough to surround both Arty and Sigrin. The elder tiefling looked confused. In such closed off quarters she wouldn't be able to maneuver like she needed to. She would be forced into a strictly close quarters combat.

"So, that's your play…" she said, turning back to Arty. He planted his feet, spinning his halbert and swinging it at her again. She blocked it before stabbing back at him with her spear, which he just barely managed to avoid. "Do you think you'll be able to defeat me like this? I've years more experience than you!"

Arty just continued to swing at her, and the two stood before one another, narrowing avoiding or blocking each strike. They were clearly in a stalemate, and stayed in it until they both landed a simultaneous strike. Both of them winced, but held their ground.

Sigrin growled. Was this what he had been planning the whole time? To even the playing field but cutting down on their mobility? Well it wouldn't work. She would be able to tough it out far longer than he could. Or so she thought. The wound she had landed on Arty suddenly began to heal.

"What the…?!"

Reishi was healing the wound of magic. In this situation it was hard to be as quick or efficient as she wanted while still holding up the barrier, but Arty told her to keep it up until Sigrin went down. And if the kid was toughing it out, then so would she.

"So, it's a test of endurance is it? That's fine! You'll succumb to the pain long before I do my injuries!" she shouted, pressing on the attack. Arty grit his teeth and continued the attack as well. Their weapons continued to clash, and every few seconds one of them would land a hit.

Reishi continued to focus on keeping the barrier up and healing Arty. She hoped Arty really would be able to hold up until the end of this. While she could take care of his injuries, the pain wasn't really something she could do anything about.

Arty winced as Sigrin's spear pierced his side. The moment she pulled the weapon back, Reishi's magic began healing it again. Though the piercing pain still remained. He was doing his best to ignore it and press on, as he'd seen a certain someone do plenty of time before.

"No pain?" Slick asked, looking confused as he set the bottle of alcohol down. "Of course I feel pain. I mean, I'm still half mewman. That shit hurts," he said chuckling.

Arty looked confused. He scribbled down on his notebook and then showed it to him. "But you still charge in like it's nothing. If it hurts, why do you fight so recklessly?"

Slick shrugged his shoulders. "By now, I'm used to it I guess. It's also kind of a rush," he admitted, making Arty sigh. "But also… when you got shit on the line you just learn to tough it out…"

Arty glared, swinging his halbet even faster. Sigrin did the same, and they both were going blow for blow. Neither seemed to be willing to back down however. Reishi grit her teeth and continued to keep using her magic.

Sigrin winced as Arty's halbert slashed her across the shoulder. She stumbled back for a moment, but then brought her spear back and stabbed right at his face. Arty just barely moved to the side, the spear scratching his cheek and leaving a cut. He spun his body around and swung his halbert at Sigrin's head.

The elder Tiefling lifted her shield, ready to block it. But Arty gripped it more tightly and swung with all his might. Right at the moment of impact, Reishi stopped both the wind barrier and healing magic, channeling it into his halbert. She was using a strength enhancing spell, knowing this was the chance that she and Arty had to finish it.

It worked too, as the halbert cut clean through the shield and Sigrin.

Her eyes shot open in disbelief. "Did I… lose?" She dropped to the ground, his body vanishing as she did. Arty looked down at her, his breathing heavy. He was exhausted, and his body hurt all over. He fell down to his knees, and Reishi quickly made her way over to check on him.

"Arty! You okay?" she asked worriedly. He nodded, looking up towards the large root where Slick and Branch were fighting. He was waiting for them to back him up. He tried to get to his feet, but Reishi placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, c'mon. I know you wanna catch up to him, but you need to rest. I need some time to heal you up completely, and I'm gonna need a break to build my magic back up."

She moved her staff over him and began focusing on healing him. It was a lot slower than before, but with how much magic she had used already, it was expected. Arty looked frustrated, but she quickly calmed him. "Relax, we've done our part for now. And you know that he can handle himself," she said.

Arty looked up again, feeling just a tad bit reassured. If anyone here could handle themselves against one of the Ten, then it was him…
