Episode 455: A Call For Brotherly Love

After a night's worth of rest, Sora steps out to train for the up coming Gym battle with Clay. Servine. Dewott, and Cubchoo train hard as Karrablast and Shelmet were still giving off strange electrical surges. Pikachu was quick to notice it.

"You guys okay?" - Pikachu subtitle.

"I'm not even sure." - Shelmet subtitle.

"We've been doing that ever since we met. Not sure what's going on with us." - Karrablast subtittle.

"Maybe, we should have Sora take you to a Pokémon Center, because what you two are giving off isn't natural." - Pikachu subtitle.

"We might have eaten something that didn't agree with us. That food Kairi made for us was great though." - Karrablast subtitle.

"I don't think that's what it is, but something is up with you." - Pikachu subtitle. Pikachu went up to Sora and tugged on his leg.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said. Sora looked right at his partner.

"What's up, Pikachu?" Sora asked.

"Pika, Pika, Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu said, pointing to Karrablast and Shelmet.

"You think something's up with Karrablast and Shelme-" Sora paused when he saw the sparks getting stronger. "Guys, what's up with you?"

"Blast," Karrablast said.

"Shelmet," Shelmet said.

Just then, Kairi, Karen, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Cilan, Iris, Angel, Meowth, and Xew all came out and saw the sparks emitting from them.

"Sora, what's going on with Karrablast and Shelmet?" Kairi asked.

"I don't know. They were just fine yesterday," Sora said.

"They're shining even brighter than a light on a Christmas tree," Meowth said.

Just when they were going to continue on about what was going on with Karrablast and Shelmet, they sparks became even stronger and stronger, causing the both of them started to evolve. Everyone were awestruck and amazed by what they were seeing. Karrablast is now an Escavilier as Shelmet is now an Accelgor.

"What just happened?" Ventus asked.

"They both evolved right at the same time," Aqua said.

"This shouldn't even be possible, because Karrablast and Shemelt are only supposed to evolve after a trade with one another," Terra said. Cilan stroked his chin as he looked right at Sora.

"Tell me something, Sora. You used Pikachu against the two of them when you first came across them, did you not?" Cilan asked.

"Yeah I did. Why?" Sora asked. Ciolan grinned as he placed on a Sherlock Holes outfit.

"It's quite elementary, Sora. It is my belief that Sora has sent Pikachu out to battle both of Karrablast and Shelmet, and then captured them both, so that might have something to do with it. So, I have a theroy that suggests that Pikachu's electricity has played its role as a secret ingredient to make this unlikely recipe possible. Another unexpected ingredient states that it was their capture inside of Pokéballs has accelerated the effect!" Cilan said.

"Wow, that was some good detective work, Cilan!" Karen said.

"Well, I am also a detective connisseur," Cilan said.

Sora looked right at Pikachu and he looked back at Sora with a chuckle from the both of them.

"Who to dunk it?" Sora asked.

"Pika," Pikachu said.

He and Pikachu both scratched the back of their heads.

"Okay, let's test you guys out," Sora said to the newly evolved Bug Types. Accelgor and Escavilier took their positions. "Okay, Escavalier! Twin Needle! Accelgor! Use Water Shuriken!" Escavalier has unleashed Twineedle as Accelgor threw a shuriken made out of water. "That was great! Okay, Escavalier! Use X-Scissor! Accelgor! Use Quick Attack!" Escavalier uses X-Scissor as Accelgor dashed with Quick Attack. "That was great, you guys!"

"Escavilier," Escavilier said.

"Accelgor," Accelgor said.

"Cilan! There you are!" A familair voice called out. Everyone all turned to see a familiar face. It was Cilan's brother Chili.

"Huh? Chili?" Cilan asked. "Wow, Chili, what are you doig here?" Cilan asked.

"I'm on a journey, traveling and training just like you, Cilan," Chili answered.

"Traveling and training?" Cilan asked.

"You're one of the Gym Leaders over the Striaton City Gym, aren't you, Chili?" Ventus asked. Chili looked right at Karen.

"Hey, I know you! You were asking around for a trainer with a Pikachu," Chili said.

"That's right," Karen said.

"Chili, this is Karen. She's Sora's long lost twin sister," Cilan introduced. He turned to Karen. "Karen, this is Chili, my brother."

"It's nice to officially meet you," Karen said.

"Likewise," Chili said.

"Getting back on topic, how does the Gym function with the two of you gone?" Iris asked. Chili clicked his lips.

"Believe me, Cress can handle the Gym by himself," Chili said. He turned to his brother. "Cilan, come on, let's have a battle!"

"Huh? Me battle you?" Cilan asked, surprised.

"Sure! I want you to show me what you've learned while you were training. The last thing I want to hear is you telling me that yo have forgotten your goal mastering the art of the Conniseur!" Chili said.

"Of course I haven't!" Cilan said.

"Then, let's battle!" Chili said.

"Alright, challenge accepted!" Cilan said.

A few moments later, Cilan and Chili have both gotten into position for battle. Sora was asked to be referee for the battle between the two brothers.

"Okay, the battle between the Gym Leaders, Cilan and Chili is about to begin! Both trainers will be using one Pokémon each, and the battle's over when either one Pokémon is unable to battle! Choose and begin!" Sora proclaimed.

"Prepared to be lightly satayed by our fiery battling style! Pansear, let's go!" Chili called out, throwing his Pokéball. Pansear came on out to battle.

"Great to see you, Pansear," Cilan said. Cilan took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Pansage, you're up!" Pansage came on out and greeted each other.

"Don't they look happy to see each other?" Karen asked.

"They should since it has been a while since Cilan left with us," Kairi said.

"They're going have to put their happy reunion aside for right now since they're going to be duking it out," Meowth said.

"Axew," Axew said.

"Nothing's changed. You're battling against my Pansear, a Fire Type Pokémon, while you're using Pansage, a Grass Type Pokémon. Now, isn't that just like my brother?" Chili asked.

"This is our battle style! We have always done this back at the Striaton City Gym," Cilan said.

"Fair enough; but you've been training hard as a Pokémon Connisseur, right? You sure you wanna stick the same battle styles forever?" Chili asked.

"I suggest you save your comments for later; after we had our battle," Cilan said as Chili grits his teeth.

"Pansear! Flamethrower!" Chili ordered. Pansear took in a deep breath and spewed Flamethrower.

"Quick, dodge it, Pansage!" Cilan called out. Pansage dodges Pansear's Flamethrower.

"Alright, Fire Punch!" Chili ordered. Pansear came right at Pansage with Fire Punch.

"Dodge it now!" Cilan called out. Pansage dodges Pansear's Fire Punch same as before.

"Cilan, battling is not just about dodging," Chili said.

"Sorry, but dodging is battling, too," Cilan reminded his brother.

"Sorry?! Flamethrower!" Chili ordered. Pansear fires Flamethrower right at Pansage again.

"Pansage, dodge!" Cilan called out. Pansage dodges Pansear's Flamethrower.

"Use Flame Charge!" Chili ordered. Pansear builds up the energy he needs and charges right at Pansage with Flame Charge.

"Alright! Pansage! Rock Tomb!" Cilan ordered. Pansage forms a huge rock above his head and threw it right at Pansear. Pansear took a heavy hit from Rock Tomb.

"I think it's time for our secret weaopn! Fire Blast!" Chili ordered. Pansear fires Fire Blast right at Pansage.

"Pansage! Dig!" Cilan ordered. Pansage digs to avoid Pansear's Fire Blast.

"Oh no, where's Pansage?" Chili asked. Pansear didn't wait too long as Pansage erupted out of the ground, catching Pansear in the blast. "Pansear, no!"

"Pansage! Solar Beam!" Cilan ordered. Pansage builds up the energy from the sunlight and fires it right at Pansear, resulting in a knockout.

"Pansear is unable to battle! Pansage wins! The winner is Cilan!" Sora announced. Pansage went up to Pansear, helping him up.

"You okay, Pansear?" - Pansage subtitle.

"I'm fine." - Pansear subtitle.

"Good job. You deserve a good rest, Pansear," Chili said, attempting to call Pansear back Pansear jumped out of the way of the Pokéball's beam.

"Pansear, Pansear!" Pansear said angrily.

"Pansear, why are you so angry?" Chili asked.

"Pan!" Pansear said.

"Are you upset that we lost?" Chili asked.

"Sear!" Pansear roared.

"It's because you missed your Fire Blast when it mattered most!" Chili said.

"Pansear!" Pansear said with his whole face turning a different shade of red annd jumping up and down. "What's with you?"

"Pansear!" Pansear said.

"Oh, that can't be good," Meowth said.

"What was Pansear saying?" Ventus asked.

"Pansear is saying that it was Chili's fault that they lost, so he was giving him lousy commands," Meowth translated.

"It was your own fault, Chili. You shouldn't blame Pansear because you lost the battle," Cilan said.

"Shut up! It was all because Pansear blew it!" Chili accused. Pansear fires Flamethrower in Chili's face. "How dare you!" Pansear took off in another direction.

"Pansear, stop!" Cilan pleaded Pansear.

"Pansage!" Pansage called out.

"Chili, aren't you going to do something?" Kairi asked.

"Nah, if Pansear doesn't want to be my Pokémon, then fine!" Chili said.

"You don't mean that!" Cilan said.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Chili shouted, running off. Cilan was very concerned for his brother.

"Can't you talk to him, Cilan? He is your brother," Iris said.

"The truth is, I know my brother well. If I talk to him now, it'll make things worse," Cilan said.

"I think your brother Cress might know what's going on with Chili," Terra said.

"I was thinking the same thing, Terra. Cress will have the answers to see what's up," Cilan said.

"Good idea, that's what we should do," Aqua said.

A few minutes later, Cilan makes contact back at the Striaton City Gym and he was shocked to hear the news.

"What?! He ran away from home?!" Cilan exclaimed.

"Right, I haven't heard a word from him since he left, and I've been worried sick," Cress said.

"He said that he went out on a journey so he could train harder," Cilan said.

"Train harder? Wow, then I think I know what's been bothering him," Cress explained. "Chili was feeling despaired about the recent losing streaks he's been having. I tried to assure him that it is unavoidable and it was part of the job, but Chili thought of himself pathetic. When I explained that he was attacking with great offense without any regards for defense, he just blew a fuse and stormed out. I tried to help, but I only ended up hurting his feelings instead."

"I see now," Cilan said. "But it'll be okay. I'm sure that Chili left because he just needed some more time to let his thoughts and feelings blend together."

"I sure hope so," Cress said. "Cilan, you will look after our brother, won't you?"

"You can count on me! We'll always care for and support each other, right? That's not about to stop," Cilan said. Cress smiled.

"You're right! Thanks!" Cress said.

"See you later," Cilan said, breaking contact.

"But Chili's got such a short fuse. He asked Cress for advice and got angry when he got it," Iris said.

"That's part of Chili's individuality. We're all different. But one of the great things about having two wonderful brothers is we have been able to cover the things the others can't handle," Cilan said. "That should be a great lesson for you, Sora, Kairi, Karen, and Ven."

"And that's a lesson well taught," Karen beamed.

"Come on. Let's go see Chili," Cilan said.

"Where do we start looking?" Kairi asked.

"Oh, I know Chili all too well. When he gets upset, there's a certain food he just can't resist," Cilan said.

Chili is at a donut shop and he's scarfing down donuts from left to right. The group shows up to see Chili eating.

"With the way he's eating those, he could put Homer Simpson on a diet," Sora said in his thoughts.

"Doesn't this donut shop rates?" Cilan asked. Chili stopped eating as he saw Cilan.

"Huh? Cilan?" Chili asked.

"Cress says hello. He said that you just ran off from the Gym," Cilan said.

"That Cress. He says way too much," Chili said.

"Only because he's really worried about you, Chili," Cilan said as Pansage climbs on his back.

"Pan!" Pansage said.

"Ha! Really? But I bet you a dozen donuts that he's glad I'm not there, so I won't lose anymore Gym battles," Chili said.

"Come on, it's not true," Sora said.

"You sound like a kid when you say that," Iris said.

"Say what?!" Chili exclaimed.

"Chili, stop. I wanna speak for Cress as well as for myself," Cilan said. Chili managed to calm down a little. "It goes without saying that the three of us care about each other an awful lot. The connection we have between brothers is as strong family bond as it could ever be. Am I wrong?" Chili looked right up to his brother and sighed.

"No. You're not wrong. I had a lot of questions on my mind. But I'm frustrated because I can't seem to find answers," Chili said.

"Will you tell me what's been troubling you?" Cilan asked.

"Yeah," Chili said. Chili explains to the group about what was bothering him. "I know I tend to lose my temper, and that comes out when I battle. And battling's all about offense, right?"

"Right," Cilan responed.

"Well, Cress said the same thing, and I let it get to me. I didn't want to go back to the Striaton City Gym, so I decided to start my own journey. And I began to think maybe I should change my battle styles after all. And the thing is, I don't know how. Then, when I was at the Driftveil City Pokémon Center, I heard you were in town. So, I thought maybe if you and I had a battle, then that will answer all those questions," Chili said.

"I see. I think it'll be good for you show me what you have learned during your training. That's a good place to start," Cilan said.

"Cilan," Chili said in awe.

"I would like to do an evaluation of you and Pansear," Cilan said. "That's a Conniseur's job, right?"

"Please! That would be awesome!" Chili said.

"You've got to find Pansear before you d anything else," Iris said.

"So, how about we split up and look for Pansear," Sora suggested.

"Well, I just happen to know where Pansear is," Chili said.

"You do?" Everyone except Cilan asked.

"Sure," Chili said.

Over to a tree, Pansear is eating a bunch of apples the same way Chili was eating some donuts. The group has found the high temp Pokémon up in the tree.

"Well, that wasn't too hard," Karen said.

"Hey, Pansear!" Chili called out. Pansear looked right at Chili. "I'm really sorry that I blamed you for our loss! I was wrong!" Pansear growled and threw one. "Come on, you're still not mad at me?!" Cilan turned to Pansage.

"I think we should leave this to Pansage," Cilan suggested. Pansage climbed up the tree to reach Pansear.

"Pansear, you okay?" - Pansage subtitle.

"Yes and no." - Pansear subtitle.

"Yes that you're talking to me and no that Chili is here?" - Pansage subtitle.

"You know about me and Chili, don't you?" - Pansear subtitle.

"Cress explained the trouble you had before, and Chili filled in the blanks after he explained about your rut." - Pansage subtitle.

"They're more like you than I thought, since Pansage is talking to Pansear like Cilan did for Chili," Aqua said. Chili climbed up the tree to talk to Pansear.

"Pansear, I'm really sorry. I totally feel bad," Chili said.

"Pansear," Pansear said.

"Know what? I have a dream. That is dream that you and I will open up a Gym for Fire Type Pokémon; the first one in the Unova region. To do that, we need to master everything about Fire Types first. That way, both and you and I can make our dream come true. What do you say?" Chili asked. Pansear looked right at Chili and saw how serious he was. Pansear nodded as Chili and Pansear locked arms.

"It looks like things has worked out between the two of them," Sora said.

"That's so great!" Kairi said.

"It's their feiry passion that makes them a great team!" Cilan said. They continued to lock arms for a few moments before they climbed down.

"Alright, let's start with evaluating time! Pansear is a High Temp Pokémon, and it's ability is Gluttony. Gluttony suits you well, Chili, so you're a good match!" Cilan said. Chili nodded, holding onto every word. "Pansear's tuffs warms up when it gets really mad. And when that happens, its attacks get spicy hot! And the way Pansear turns its anger into strength matches Chili to a tee."

"Pan, Pan," Pansear nodded.

"In my opinion, the two of you are a match for a delicious sheer pefection!" Cilan said.

"Wow, I knew we would make an awesome team!" Chili said.

"Pansear!" Pansear said.

"Let's look at Pansear's moves. It knows, Flamethrower, Fire Punch, Fire Blast, and Flame Charge. Isn't that right, Chili?" Cilan asked.

"Yeah, pretty impressive right?" Chili asked.

"Yes, but they're all Fire Type moves. A simple recipe," Cilan said.

"What?" Chili asked.

"Having a feiry temperment is a great moveset, but good balance is important as well," Cilan said.

"Balance?" Chili asked.

"Hmm-hmm. Instead of always using Flamethrower or Fire Blast, why don't you teach Pansear a different type of move," Cilan suggested.

"A different type of move. Hm. As a Conniseur, what would you recommend?" Chili asked.

"When using a Fire Type, one must be careful when using a Water Type, and Grass Type moves are espcially effective on Water Type Pokémon. How about Solar Beam, a Grass Type move?" Cilan asked.

"But shouldn't Chili and Pansear learn some defensive moves?" Iris asked.

"I'll tell you what I think. Knowing Chili and Pansear's personality traits, it may not be the best pairing, but I think they can come up with another brilliant flavor. And that's by mastering an offesneive attack!" Cilan stated. "You know, offense-"

"-is the best defense! Yeah!" Chili cheered.

"Exactly right!" Cilan said.

"Now, that's Conniseur's smarts! You understand just what makes us tick!" Chili said.

"Pan, Pan!" Pansear said.

"That's something I have picked up on my travels with everyone here," Cilan said.

"How do you think that, Cilan?" Karen asked.

"Before I began my travels, I tended to favor balance overall. I get to learn my Pokémon's moves from various Types, so we would be prepared to face any Pokémon Type. Now I realize there's more to it than that," Cilan said.

"Pansage!" Pansage said.

"By factoring the Pokémon trainer, personality, and compatibility, and bond, and the distinct way they use every one of their moves, it helps me bring out the best they could be. At least that's what I think now," Cilan said.

"Wow, I see," Chili said. He looked right at Pansear. "Pansear, let's say we do our very best to master Solar Beam?"

"Sear," Pansear said.

A few minutes later, Cilan and Pansage to teach Chili and Pansear to use Solar Beam.

"Let's begin by learning to absorb the sun's energy into your body! The first thing is to open the doors to your hearts," Cilan instructed with his and Pansage's arms spread out.

"Alright, Pansear, let's do this!" Chili said. Pansear agreed and they did the same thing. Sora, Kairi, Karen, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Iris, Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, and Axew did the same thing.

"Can you hear the voices of the grass and trees?" Cilan asked.

"Sorry, I can't hear a thing," Chili said.

"Once you open you heart, you'll hear it," Cilan said.

"Hey, I think I just heard it," Iris said.

"So did I," Ventus said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"You know, I'm starting to hear it as well. It sounds as a soft and gentle voice, but it's there," Chili said.

"You're doing great. Now, concentrate the sun's energy into one tiny poise," Cilan said. Pansage began to demonstrate this by absorbing the sunlight into his tuft.

"Try it, Pansear!" Chili said. Pansear did the same thing.

"Realese it all at once!" Cilan said. Pansage then fores Solar Beam right into the sky.

"Now, do it, Pansear!" Chili called out. Pansear tried to fire Solar Beam, but did nothing. "No way."

"You got to give it a little more time. Let's work on stamina and stregnth," Cilan said. Everyone excercised with Chili and Pansear. The Pokémon were helping out Pansear with the excercise. They practiced hard right up to the moment of truth. "Now, let's try it again!"

"Right! Let's do this!" Chili said.

"Pansage! Use Solar Beam!" Cilan ordered.

"You too, Pansear!" Chili ordered.

Both Pansage and Pansear got into position to master Solar Beam.

"First absorb all the sunlight energy into your body and concentrate that energy into one poise!" Cilan said. Pansage starts to absorb the sunlight into his tuft.

"Concentrate, Pansear," Chili said. Pansear started to do the same thing.

"Next it all at once!" Cilan said.

"Pansear! Release it now!" Chili called out. Both of Pansage and Pansear unleashed Solar Beam all at once right into the sky. It resulted in an explosion right into the middle. "Pansear, you did it!"

"Pan, Pan!" Pansear cheered, giving Pansage a high-five.

"Chili, great!" Cilan said.

"Thanks! And it was all because of your help!" Chili said.

"That was awesome, Chili!" Sora said.

"Pansear gave off an impressive Solar Beam!" Kairi added.

"Okay, now that Pansear has learned a new move, let's have a look at his other moves. So, Flame Charge raises up a Pokémon's speed, but it's also good to dodge your opponet's attacks," Cilan said.

"I get it," Chili said.

"Defense may be your weakness, but when you endure you opponent's attacks, and turn your channel your anger and turn it into energy, your moves strengthen," Cilan said.

"That makes sense, too! Oh, I wanna have a battle right now!" Chili said.

"I think I can help you out," Sora said. Both of Sora and Chili got into position to battle. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. "You're up, Dewott!" Dewott came on out battle.

"A Water Type. Not only that your Oshawott evolved since the last time," Chili said.

"Yeah, and Dewott has gotten so much stronger since then," Sora said. "Okay, Dewott! Start things up with Sacred Sword!" Deowtt came charging right at the high temp Pokémon with Sacred Sword.

"Dodge and use Flame Charge!" Chili ordered. Pansear uses Flame Charge to dodge Deowtt's Sacred Sword. "Now, use Fire Punch!" Pansear lands a Fire Punch right on the discipline Pokémon. "Now use Fire Blast!" Pansear fire Fire Blast right at Dewott.

"Use Water Gun!" Sora ordered. Dewott fires Water Gun right at Fire Blast, putting it out. "Razor Shell!" Dewott came at Pansear with Razor Shell.

"Fire Punch!" Chili ordered. Pansear lands a hit with Fire Punch.

"They're even!" Iris said.

"Pansear is making up with his disadvantage with power and momentum," Cilan said in his thoughts.

"Now, use Flame Charge!" Chili ordered. Pansear stomped its feet on the ground and charged right at Dewott.

"Dodge and with Aqua Jet!" Sora ordered. Dewott dodges Pansear's attack, but Pansage came too fast for Deowtt to dodge.

"Use Fire Punch!" Chili ordered. Pansear land a Fire Punch onto Dewott again.

"Dewott! Use Aqua Jet again!" Sora ordered. Dewott launches himself with Aqua Jet.

"Dodge it," Chili ordered. Pansear dodges by jumping out of the way.

"It's just like Cilan said, Pansear is using his speed to dodge," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said. Dewott turned back around to alnd a hit onto Pansear.

"Offense is the best defense! Pansear! Counter that with Fire Punch!" Chili ordered. Pansear lands a Fire Punch, making their attacks equal.

"Their power is equal, but Dewott's Aqua Jet should have been super-effective on Pansear," Karen said.

"Chili and Pansear are on a roll. That's really powering up Pansear's moves," Cilan said.

"Okay, use Razor Shell!" Sora ordered. Dewott came right at Pansear with Razor Shell, landing some super-effective hit; but Pansear is blocking them.

"Stay tough, Pansear! Hang in there! You make sure you get a lot tougher from that anger of yours!" Chili said. Pansear lets out a loud yell as flames erupt from Pansear. "Solar Beam! Let's go!" Pansear charges up Solar Beam and fires it.

"Dodge it!" Sora called out. Dewott is hit by the attack, and taken down.

"Dewott is unable to battle! Pansear wins! Chili wins the battle!" Cilan said.

"Pansear, we did it" Chili cheered. Both trainer and Pokémon embrace each other. Sora calls back Dewott and smiled.

"You did your best, Deowtt. Get some rest," Sora said. He smiled.

As the sun sets, Chili and Pansear gets ready to set off.

"You really helped me out. Thanks, Cilan,' Chili said.

"Come on, I just did what any good brother would do," Cilan said.

"I think I'll head back to the Striaton City Gym to make up with Cress," Chili said.

"An excellent idea. Chili, give Cress my best," Cilan said.

"I will," Chili said, with the brothers shaking hands. "It's obvious that your journey is agreeing with you. So, please make the most of it."

"I will," Cilan said.

"Later," Chili said, taking off. Pansear follows him as they see him off. Nurse Joy stepped out of the Pokémon Center.

"Sora, I have heard from the Driftveil City Gym and I got word that Clay has just returned and he is ready for battle anytime," Nurse Joy said.

"That's good to know, Nurse Joy. Thanks," Sora said.

Thanks to some brotherly help, Cilan was able to help his brother Chili master a new move and regained his confidence as a Gym Leader. And Sora's Gym battle with Clay is closer than ever. Let's see how well it goes down. Until then.
