Any comments I make are based on news articles I may have read 5 or 10 years ago and can only vaguely half-remember, so… please don't shoot me?

Summary: This isn't a traditional one-shot fanfic. There is no plot, no dialogue and no drama. Instead, this will be kinda like an essay about a topic related to the Harry Potter series.
Voldemort and The Mafia Are Similar
Introduction: Voldemort and his followers are a group of criminals who terrorised Britain. One of their goals was the killing of Muggles. They probably wouldn't be too happy to hear that they resemble a group of Muggle criminals - The Mafia.
Lord Voldemort is the leader of the Death Eaters. He rules with fear and expects total loyalty but doesn't trust them too much. He doesn't take failure well and always makes sure his followers know the consequences (painful torture). He gave his minions tattoos, the majority of which are males. He rarely does any killing himself, preferring to leave it to his followers. He did as much as he could to delay death, using Horcruxes. While I am unsure whether blood is needed to gain entrance to the Death Eaters (by killing some muggles, for example), blood is certainly necessary to get out (as in, the blood of the person trying to get out of the group). Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters' primary area of activity was Britain, and they rarely conducted criminal activity outside of their territory. He had spies in the enemy camp, passing him information.
The Mafia boss also ruled with fear and didn't take failure or disloyalty too kindly. While the mob boss may not take failure very well, they might be less likely to torture someone based on their inability to complete a task. Members wear gang tats, and it's a male majority. Killings are rarely done by the boss unless he is making a statement. The boss uses their members to ensure their safety and prolong their lifespans. They operate on a blood-in, blood-out basis (kill a rival gang member to get in, get out in a body bag). The Mafia also operates primarily within their territory and uses informants in other gangs or law enforcement to give them information.
