Episode 509: Unova Semi-Final Battle
Shortly after the battle against Cheren, Sora took his Pokémon to be healed as he is joined by Kairi and Angel.
"Your Pokémon will be fighting fit in no time. In the meantime, please wait," Nurse Joy said.
"Okay," Sora said. He and Kairi went somewhere to sit and waited for Pikachu, Volcarona, Klinklang, Garbodor, Braviary, and Zebstrika to be completely healed. Sora made contact with Professor Oak's lab through his Xtransceiver.
"Sora, I see you have been doing well. You as well, Kairi," Professor Oak said.
"May I presume that you are in Vertress City as we speak?" Professor Oak asked.
"Yeah. I made it to the finals of the Unova Pokémon League, and I just won a battle against a trainer we know here in Unova," Sora said.
"Ah, excellent. Ever since you have won the Indigo Plateau, I knew you were going to accomplish great heights," Professor Oak said.
"The reason we're calling is just to check up on everyone down there," Sora said. Professor Oak chuckled.
"Of course. Kairi, your mother is close to giving birth," Professor Oak said, making Kairi smile. "Your father has done an excellent job in making the baby's room. I guarantee that you will love it."
"I'll have to see it first," Kairi said, giggling. Lea came up to Professor Oak from behind.
"Professor, the Grass Types are at it again!" Lea exclaimed.
"I thought Sora's Venusaur was taking care of the Oddish and Bellsprout lines!" Professor Oak said.
"He is! It's the Tangela, Tangrowth, Exeggcute, and Exeggutor this time! Isa is out getting Venusaur right now," Lea said.
"Good," Professor Oak said, turning to Sora and Kairi. "I am sorry to cut this short, but there is a matter that needs my full attention. Hope to see you soon, you two."
"You too, professor," Sora said. Professor Oak hung up. He and Kairi looked at each other. "At least we know it's never a dull moment at Professor Oak's ranch."
"Attention, Sora, please report to the counter immediately," Nurse Joy said through the microphone. With that, Sora, Kairi, and Angel made it to the counter as Nurse Joy had Pikachu and the other five all healed up. "Your Pokémon are all fighting fit, Sora."
"Thank you, Nurse Joy," Sora said.
"You are very welcome, Sora," Nurse Joy said, smiling.
A short time later, Sora and Kairi rejoined Riku, Naminé, Karen, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Lillie, Cilan, Iris, Angel, Meowth, Axew, Azurill, Blossom, Sparky, Thor, Eclair, the Mane Six, Spike, Starlight, the Young Six, and the Digimon to hear who will be facing who in the semifinals. The finalists consisted of Sora, Hilbert, Nate, and Dino.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are now down to four trainers remaining! These fine trainers have done incredibly well to make it this far in this magnificent tournament! And the matchups have been decided! Here we go!" Freddy O'Martian announced as Hilbert is battling Dino in the first battle, and Sora is battling Nate. "Hilbert versus Dino, Nate versus Sora! These four young gladiators has done an amazing job to make it this far, and only one of them is going to be on top! Be sure to catch the action first thing tomorrow!"
With that said, the semifinals were just around the corner, and only one of them was going to make it in. Sora exchanged Volcarona, Klinklang, Garbodor, Braviary, and Zebstrika for Sigilyph, Gigalith, Cryogonal, Escavalier, and Sawk.
On the very next morning, Hilbert and Dino were having their match. Both were down to one Pokémon each. Dino had sent out a Druddigon as Hilbert has sent out his Accelgor.
"Accelgor! Use Hyper Beam!" Hilbert ordered. Accelgor fired Hyper Beam, striking Druddigon. The cave Pokémon fell on its back, beaten.
"Druddigon is unable to battle! Accelgor wins! The winner is Hilbert!" The referee announced.
"And Hilbert makes it all the way to the finals! And now the next battle shall decide which one will join Hilbert!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"This is it," Ventus said.
"Nate worked really hard to make it this far," Cilan said. "Let's see if it has paid off."
Sora and Nate both entered the battlefield, ready to go. They both took out a Pokéball and got ready to throw it.
"Okay, here goes something," Nate said to himself. He threw the Pokéball. "You're up first, Gurdurr!" Nate called out. His Gurdurr came out, twirling its beam around before, planting it in the ground. Sora threw his Pokéball.
"Go right in, Sawk!" Sora called out. Sawk came on out to battle.
"Nate's first Pokémon is his Gurdurr as Sora's first is his Sawk! Both trainers are using Fighting Type Pokémon!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gurdurr! Start up with Bulk Up and follow up with Stone Edge!" Nate ordered. Gurgurr sends Stone Edge right at the karate Pokémon.
"Gurdurr is making a great start with Bulk Up and Stone Edge!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Karate Chop to send those rocks back!" Sora ordered. Sawk uses Karate Chop to send the rocks right back at Gurdurr.
"Sawk sends the rocks right back with Karate Chop!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Gurdurr is sending the rocks back at Sawk as he kept up the chops until the rocks are reduced to dust.
"Sawk! Use Cross Chop!" Sora ordered. Sawk came right at Gurdurr with Cross Chop.
"Use Focus Punch!" Nate ordered. Gurdurr came right at Sawk with Focus Punch. Both Pokémon collide with each other, and held on. Both skid backwards and stared at each other.
"It looks like a standoff!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Dual Chop!" Sora ordered.
"Use Hammer Arm!" Nate ordered. Gurdurr came right at Sawk again. Both Pokémon land a hit onto each other. "Focus Punch!"
"Sawk! Use Brick Break!" Sora ordered. Sawk came right at Gurdurr and lands a chop on the muscular Pokémon.
"Gurdurr has lost its focus from using its Focus Punch!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gurdurr! Use Hammer Arm again!" Nate ordered. Gurdurr rushed right towards Sawk with Hammer Arm once again.
"Dodge and use Karate Chop!" Sora ordered. Sawk dodged and lands a Kararte Chop onto Gurdurr.
"A decent hit with that Karate Chop!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Cross Chop!" Sora ordered. Sawk came right at Sawk with Cross Chop, dealing some damage onto Gurdurr. The muscular Pokémon struggled to get back up. Nate called Gurdurr right back.
"Nate's making a switch in Pokémon! What could he have planned next?" Freddy O'Martian asked. Nate threw his Pokéball.
"Go! Gothitelle!" Nate called out. His Gothitelle came right out to battle.
"Nate has switched Gurdurr for his Gothitelle!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gothitelle! Use Psychic!" Nate ordered. Sawk is lifted up in the air and then slammed right down to the ground. Sawk had been beaten.
"Sawk is unable to battle! Gothitelle wins!" The referee announced.
"Nate takes the early lead in this bout!" Freddy O'Martian announced as Sora called back Sawk. He took out his next Pokéball and threw it.
"Your turn, Escavalier!" Sora called out. His Escavalier came right out, pointing his lances towards Gothitelle.
"Sora's second Pokémon is his Escavalier! Escavalier has the edge since it's a Bug Type Pokémon!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gothitelle! Use Psyshock!" Nate ordered. Gothitelle forms a ring of purple masses of energy in front of its body. Gothitelle then fires the masses at Escavalier.
"Dodge and use Twineedle!" Sora ordered. Escavalier dodged and gave Gothitelle a couple of hits with Twineedle. "Now use X-Scissor!" Escavalier came at Gothitelle with X-Scissor, dealing some heavy damage.
"Escavalier has dealt some heavy damage onto Gothitelle with that X-Scissor! How long can Gothitelle keep going?" Freddy O'Martian asked. He got his answer when Gothitelle stood on its feet. "Gothitelle is still in it by the looks of it!"
"Gothitelle! Use Brick Break!" Nate ordered.
"Escavalier! Block it!" Sora called out. Escavalier uses his lances to block Gothitelle's Brick Break. "Now use Iron Head!" Escavalier uses Iron Head on Gothitelle. "Use Twineedle!" Escavalier gave Gothitelle a series of beatings with Twineedle. Escavalier gave Gothitelle one more Twineedle, resulting in a knockout.
"Gothitelle is unable to battle! Escavalier wins!" The referee announced.
"And Sora pushes right back with Escavalier's Twineedle!" Freddy O'Martian announced as Nate called back his Gothitelle and took out his next Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Arcanine!" Nate called out. His Pokéball opened and Arcanine made a majestic cry upon entry.
"Nate's third Pokémon is his Arcanine! It looks like Sora's Escavalier is in a real bind against a Fire Type Pokémon like Arcanine!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Sora called back Escavalier and took out his next Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Gigalith!" Sora called out. Gigalith came on out to battle.
"And Sora's third Pokémon is Gigalith, a Rock Type Pokémon; a good matchup against a Fire Type!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gigalith! Start things up with Sandstorm!" Sora ordered. Gigalith whipped up a sandstorm all over the battlefield. Arcanine was buffed by the sandstorm.
"Gigalith makes a good start by whipping up a Sandstorm! All but Rock, Ground, and Ground Type Pokémon and Pokémon with the ability Sand Veil are immuned to the sandstorm affect!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gigalith! Use Rock Blast!" Sora ordered. Gigalith fired Rock Blast right at his target.
"Dodge with Extreme Speed!" Nate ordered. Arcanine dodges with Extreme Speed. "Use Fire Spin on the sandstorm!" Arcanine unelashed Fire Spin on the sandstorm, canceling out the sandstorm.
"Arcanine has ceased Gigalith's Sandstorm, just so it won't take any damage!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"That was great, Nate. You raised your Arcanine well," Sora said.
"Thanks, Sora. Let's finish this battle. Arcanine! Use Dragon Pulse!" Nate ordered. Arcanine unleashed Dragon Pulse. Gigalith was struck hard by the dragon attack. "Use Iron Tail!" Arcanine swung its tail right at the compressed Pokémon, dealing some heavy damage. "Use Fire Spin!" Arcanine unleashed Fire Spin right at Gigalith, dealing some damage and trapping Gigalith in the battlefield.
"Arcanine is really giving it to Gigalith!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gigalith! Use Stone Edge!" Sora ordered. Gigalith unleashed Stone Edge right at the legendary Pokémon.
"Dodge it!" Nate called out. Arcanine dodged with incredible speed. "Use Dragon Pulse!"
"Use Flash Cannon!" Sora ordered.
Arcanine and Gigalith fired their chosen attacks at one another. They both held on, trying to overpower the other.
"These two are clashing power with power! Not one of them is willing to call it quits!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Arcanine and Gigalith kept launching their attacks until an explosion occured between them both. Both have taken some heavy damage. Gigalith and Arcanine were panting heavily, but Arcanine fell out of exhaustion.
"Arcanine is unable to battle! Gigalith wins!" The referee announced.
"Arcanine is down, and Gigalith is still standing!" Freddy O'Martian announced as Nate took out Gurdurr's Pokéball and threw it.
"Back in there, Gurdurr!" Nate called out. His Gurdurr reentered the battlefield, spinning its beam.
"And Gurdurr makes a second appearance on the battlefield! A good matchup since Gurdurr is a Fighting Type and Gigalith is a Rock Type!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Gigalith is a Pokémon my sister Maud will definitely love!" Pinkie said.
"For a rock, Gigalith looks soft," Gallus said.
"That battle with Arcanine must have taken a lot out of him; especially with that Flash Cannon," Riku said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"And being up against a Fighting Type isn't helping much either," Agumon said. Sora called Gigalith back to rest up.
"Take five for now, Gigalith. You'll need it," Sora said. He took out another Pokéball and threw it. "Your turn now, Sigilyph!" His Sigilyph came out, floating in the air.
"And it's Sigilyph's turn to battle!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Yes, Gigalith, good choice. He's both a Psychic Type, and a Flying Type; both strong against Fighting Types," Kairi said.
"Go for it, Sigilyph!" Ventus called out.
"Pika, Pika!" Sparky added.
"Gurdurr! Use Stone Edge!" Nate ordered. Gurdurr hurls Stone Edge right at Sigilyph.
"Sigilyph! Block it with Psychic!" Sora ordered. Sigilyph used Psychic to block the rocks. "Send them back!" Sigilyph sent the rocks and the rocks struck the muscular Pokémon.
"Gurdurr!" Nate gasped.
"Use Psychic again!" Sora ordered. Sigilyph uses Psychic to lift up Gurdurr and sends Gurdurr right at the wall.
"Gurdurr is unable to battle! Sigilyph wins!" The referee announced.
"And Nate loses three Pokémon, while Sora still has five by his side! Will Nate make a comeback, or will he fall by Sora's hands!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Nate called back Gurdurr and he took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Krookodile!" Nate called out. His Krookodile came right out with a roar.
"Nate sends out a Krookodile to go against Sora's Sigilyph!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Sigilyph! Use Miracle Eye!" Sora ordered. Sigilyph's eyes glow blue. "Use Psychic!" Sigilyph uses Psychic to lift up Krookodile in the air.
"I thought Dark Type Pokémon aren't affected by Psychic Type moves!" Hawkmon said.
"Normally no, unless they used Miracle Eye, which can allow a Psychic Type Pokémon to use its Psychic Type move on a Dark Type, and enables an evasive Pokémon to be hit," Terra said.
"Is there something they cannot do?" Twilight asked.
"Sora turns the tables of Types and uses it to his advantage, despite a Type disadvantage!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Okay, Sigilyph! Use Air Slash!" Sora ordered. Sigilyph unleahsed Air Slash and it struck Krookodile hard. Krookodile fell on its back, but it got back up.
"Krookodile! Use Dark Pulse!" Nate ordered. Krookodile fired Dark Pulse right at Sigilyph.
"Dodge!" Sora called out. Sigilyph manages to dodge, but he was struck the avianoid Pokémon on the spot.
"Use Shadow Claw!" Nate ordered. Krookodile swiped his claw at Sigilyph, dealing some heavy damage, resulting in a knockout.
"Sigilyph is unable to battle! Krookodile wins!" The referee announced.
"And now Sora has fourth Pokémon left to use! It would seem Nate is making a comeback!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Sora called back Sigilyph and sighed.
"Sorry, Sigilyph. I won't let your efforts go to waste," Sora said, taking out his next Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Cryogonal!" The Pokéball opened and Cryogonal came right out with a twirl.
"And Sora has sent out Cryogonal, an Ice Type Pokémon!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Cryogonal! Use Ice Beam!" Sora ordered. Cryogonal fired Ice Beam.
"Dodge and use Night Slash!" Nate ordered. Krookodile dodged and charged right at Cryogonal.
"Aim Ice Beam on the ground in front of Krookodile!" Sora ordered. Cryogonal fired Ice Beam on the ground further from Krookodile, and it's slipped on the ground. "Use Aurora Beam!" Cryogonal fired Aurora Beam at Krookodile, dealing heavy damage. "Now, use Frost Breath!" Cryogonal fired Frost Breath, dealing a critical hit.
"Cryogonal has dealt some heavy damage with the use of Aurora Beam and Frost Breath!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Now, use Freeze-Dry!" Sora ordered. Cryogonal unleashed Freeze-Dry and dealt even more damage onto Krookodile, dealing some more damage. Krookodile had been taken down.
"Krookodile is unable to battle! Cryogonal wins!" The referee announced.
"And Sora has taken down four of Nate's Pokémon, despite losing two of his own! How will he be able to turn this about?" Freddy O'Martian announced. Nate called Krookodile back inside.
"Man, this is way harder than I thought. I knew he was good, but this is way beyond what I was expecting. I'm just have to try even harder," Nate said, taking out another Pokéball and threw it. "Your turn now, Emboar!" His Emboar came out swinging his arms out.
"And Nate's fifth Pokémon is his Emboar, a Fire and a Fighting Type!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"I knew he was going send his Emboar out sooner or later. His Emboar looks much stronger than he was before. With Sigilyph taken out of the match, this will be especially hard," Sora said. He called back Cryogonal and took a look at Pikachu. "You up for it, Pikachu?"
"Pika," Pikachu nodded. He entered the battlefield.
"And Sora's sixth Pokémon is Pikachu!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Pikachu, just the Pokémon I was hoping for. Emboar! Use Brick Break!" Nate ordered. Emboar swung his arm down on Pikachu.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu manages to dodge Emboar's attack.
"Pikachu manages to dodge Emboar's Brick Break with Quick Attack!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Flamethrower to stop Pikachu in its tracks!" Nate ordered. Emboar fired Flamethrower in front of Pikachu, making him stop. "Now, use Heat Crash!" Emboar jumped and came down fast.
"Dodge it! Hurry!" Sora called out. Pikachu tried to dodge, but he was hit hard by the attack. Nate smiled as he called Emboar right back.
"Nate's making a switch! What could he be sending out?" Freddy O'Martian asked. He took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Jellicent!" Nate called out. He unleashed a male Jellicent.
"And substituting for Emboar is Jellicent!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Psychic!" Nate ordered. Jellicent uses Psychic on Pikachu and brings him down hard. "Now, use Shadow Ball!" Jellicent unleashed Shadow Ball, striking Pikachu, dealing some heavy damage. The mouse Pokémon struggled to get back up.
"That Jellicent has given Pikachu loads of damage! It doesn't look like Pikachu is going to last much longer out there!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Shadow Ball again!" Nate ordered. Jellicent fired another Shadow Ball right at Pikachu.
"Dodge and use Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu manages to dodge by using Quick Attack. "Use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu fired Thunderbolt right at Jelliecent.
"Dodge it!" Nate called out. Jellicent manages to dodge out of the way. "Use Psychic one more time!" Jellicent lifts Pikachu up with Psychic.
"Jellicent has Pikachu in a real bind with that Psychic!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Jellicent sends Pikachu down on the ground, and he is beaten.
"Pikachu is unable to battle! Jellicent wins!" The referee announced.
"Jellicent takes down Pikachu! Sora is now down to three Pokémon now!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Sora picked up Pikachu and laid him by his side.
"Get some rest, buddy. You deserve it after that great fight you put up," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said. Sora thought for a moment.
"Man, at this point, the battle's going to get harder and harder, especially with his Emboar. Escavalier and Cryogonal are weak against fire, while Gigalith and Cryogonal are weak against Fighting Type moves. I'll have to wing it this point on," Sora said, taking out Cryogonal's Pokéball and threw it. "Cryogonal! Back to action!" His Cryogonal returned to the battlefield.
"Cryogonal is sent back right out to battle!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Freeze-Dry!" Sora ordered. Cryogonal unleashed Freeze-Dry all around, and it does heavy damage onto Jellicent.
"Freeze-Dry is super-effective on Water Type Pokémon despite being an Ice Type attack!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Use Aurora Beam! Full power!" Sora ordered. Cryogonal unleashed a much powerful Aurora Beam and it struck Jellicent hard, dealing some more damage. Jellicent was then taken down.
"Jellicent is unable to battle! Cryogonal wins!" The referee announced.
"And now Nate is down to one Pokémon left to use! His Emboar is just waiting to rumble!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Nate called Jellicent and took out Emboar's Pokéball and threw it.
"Emboar! You're going back out!" Nate called out. His Emboar reentered the battlefield.
"And here is Emboar, ready to go!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Cryogonal! Use Ice Beam right at Emboar's right leg!" Sora ordered. Cryogonal fired Ice Beam at Emboar's right leg, freezing it.
"Sora must not be taking chances against Emboar! How will Nate respond?" Freddy O'Martian asked.
"That won't stop me! Emboar! Flamethrower on the ice!" Nate ordered. Emboar fired Flamethrower, melting the ice.
"Uh-oh," Sora said.
"Flamethrower!" Nate ordered. Emboar fired Flamethrower right at Cryogonal, resulting in a knockout.
"Cryogonal is unable to battle! Emboar wins!" The referee announced.
"Fire once again trumps over ice! Sora has two Pokémon left at his disposal! Which one of his remaining two will he send out?" Freddy O'Martian asked. Sora called back Cryogonal and took out Gigalith's Pokéball and threw it.
"Gigalith! Back to action!" Sora called out. Gigalith came back out to battle. "Use Sandstorm!" Gigalith unleashed Sandstorm again. Emboar is buffed by the sandstorm once again.
"Emboar! Use Brick Break!" Nate ordered. Emboar came right at Gigalith, and lands a super-effective hit. Gigalith was down and out.
"Gigalith is unable to battle! Emboar wins!" The referee announced.
"And Sora and Nate is now down to one Pokémon each! Sora will have to stay on his toes when dealing with a Pokémon that has the advantage over a Bug and Steel Type Pokémon!" Freddy O'Martian announced. Sora called back Gigalith and took out Escavalier's Pokéball.
"I don't expect you to win, but I expect you to do your best," Sora said, throwing his Pokéball. "Go! Escavalier!" His Pokéball opened and Escavalier came right out to battle.
"And here is Escavalier!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Emboar! Use Flamethrower!" Nate ordered. Emboar fired Flamethrower right at Escavalier.
"Dodge and use Twineedle!" Sora ordered. Escavalier dodged Flamethrower and gave Emboar a hit with Twineedle. Emboar fell on one knee and he managed to stand right up.
"Emboar takes some hits, but they didn't look like they did much!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Emboar! Use Brick Break!" Nate ordered. Emboar moved in to deliver Brick Break.
"Escavalier! Dodge and use Twineedle again!" Sora ordered. Escavalier dodged and gave Emboar another Twineedle. Emboar tried again, but Escavalier was moving too fast for the mega fire pig Pokémon to land a hit.
"Emboar keeps on trying to land a hit, but Escavalier is moving too fast for Emboar to land a hit!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
"Emboar is starting to get worne out from those attacks," Biyomon said.
"Emboar might be larger, but Escavalier is faster," Spike said.
"Unless Nate uses Heat Crash to turn it around, Sora's got it in the bag," Karen said.
"This ends now! Emboar! Use Heat Crash!" Nate ordered. Emboar jumped in the air again and came right down towards the cavalry Pokémon fast.
"You called it, Karen," Armadillomon said.
"If that lands a hit, it'll be all over!" Meowth said.
"You can do it, Sora," Kairi said.
"Eevee!" Angel added.
"And here comes Emboar with Heat Crash!" Freddy O'Martian announced. "It looks like it'll be all over for Sora!" Emboar came closer and closer. Emboar lands on the ground. "And it's done!" Escavalier is still floating in the air. "Or not! Escavalier is still in it!"
What happened was Escavalier dodged Emboar's Heat Crash right at the last second before Emboar could land a hit.
"Escavalier! Use Twineedle!" Sora ordered. Escavalier unleashed Twineedle at Emboar, dealing some hits on the mega fire pig Pokémon. "Use X-Scissor!" Escavalier swiped his lances at Emboar, dealing some damage on him. Emboar then fell backwards. Emboar tried to get back up, but it was in vain as he was knocked out.
"Emboar is unable to battle! Escavalier wins! The winner is Sora!" The referee announced.
"And Sora makes it to the finals! The final round will begin within two hours, so both parties have your Pokémon healed up until then!" Freddy O'Martian announced.
Sora and Nate called back their Pokémon as they walked up to each other and shook hands.
"Congratulations, Sora. You deserved to win," Nate said.
"Thanks. I have to admit, you almost had me with that last attack of yours," Sora said.
"Good luck in the final round, Sora. I mean it," Nate said.
"Thanks. I would say the same thing if you won instead of me," Sora said.
