Just my own take on the Time Loop idea; Shinji's been around the block a few times but isn't some smarmy little twerp or an ultra confident slayer of babes.

The Hedgehog's Dilemma dictates that despite the intention of a reciprocal relationship, it may not occur for reasons that two individuals cannot avoid. Despite good will, human intimacy cannot occur without substantial mutual harm, and what results is cautious behavior and weak relationships. (Warning: VERY slow fic. (Rewritten Rebuild) - Shinji Ikari, a boy who was born thinking he could do no good for the world, but fate showed that this was wrong, he would apprehend in the worst possible way.

Post-Rebuild 3.33, Shinji is recovered from the red earth by Asuka, having been condemned and wronged, he will do anything to prove his innocence and take revenge on those who abandoned him and betrayed him, being unable to count and trust anyone, only him same.

I, like many, wrote cringey self-insert fanfiction when I was younger. It's something I'd have preferred to have kept buried, but my past has come to haunt me. After dying in embarrassing fashion, I find myself reborn as my old edgelord OC in my old Evangelion fanfiction. Cringe never dies, it is only reborn.
