Chapter 8!

The Battle Of The Bunny Paws

Peter had used his mutant ability to check out the perimeter of the building before he returned to the basement's entrance, he wanted to make sure it was safe. He had no idea what could be lurking around in Agnes's house, he was dreading going back down into the basement after what had happened to the twins. He checked the padlock and tried to remove it by force, but it was locked tight.

" How will we get in there?" Billy asked.

" Don't worry, I've got this." Peter replied.

" What are you planning to do?" Monica asked.

Peter took a little wallet from his pocket and waved it at Monica with a dorky smile on his face, she immediately asked him if it was a lock picking kit. He gave her nod and returned his attention back to the padlock, he told them that he'd have it unlocked in a couple of minutes if he was lucky. Opening up his little wallet Peter ran his finger tips over his tools, he'd owned this kit since the 1970s. He decided to use the curtain pick, it was normally his tool of choice when it came to padlocks. He immediately began working on the old padlock, he wiggled the curtain pick around inside of the padlock's lock.

" So cool!" Tommy smiled.

Tommy was watching Peter closely, he questioned him endlessly about how he knew how do all of these cool things. Peter made small talk with Tommy and told him about some of his past illegal activities back in his reality, his fake nephew was impressed with his stories. Especially with the prison break story, he didn't tell Tommy about Erik though being an ex bad guy. He didn't want them to think badly of his Father, he wasn't really Magento anymore.

" Almost there..." Peter said.

The padlock soon clicked and it freed it's self from it's binds, they could now enter the basement. Peter pulled the padlock from the door handle and threw it over his shoulder, he then pulled one of the doors open. A gust of wind blew from the now opened basement, the smell of flowers and damp straw filled Peter's nostrils. He wafted the floral scent away from his face with his hand, he wasn't looking forward to going down there again.

" It didn't smell like that down there before..." Monica said.

" It smells like Agnes's bathroom, gross!" Tommy said.

" Okay boys, listen up." Peter said while he put his lock picking equipment away. " It's gonna be an in and out job, don't touch anything. It's dark in Agnes's basement, I want you both to stay close to me and Monica. Do you both understand?"

" Sure." Tommy said.

" We do." Billy said.

" Okay then, let's do this." Peter said.

Monica opened the other door to the basement and peered down the dark staircase, she told Peter that she would take the lead. He agreed with her plan, it made sense in a weird way. He could stay at the back and the twins could stay between them, it would be safer this way in case anything attack them from the front or behind them. Monica ventured down the staircase first with a small hand held torch in her hand, the boys soon followed her lead. Peter walked cautiously behind the boys, the basement seemed more darker than before. The floral scent was lingering in the air, he noticed Tommy covering up his nose with his hand. It wasn't long until they reached the bottom of the staircase, the basement was pitch black in some parts of it still.

" It's creepy down here..." Billy said.

" Don't be such a chicken." Tommy said with slight chuckle. " It's not like there's any monsters down here."

" Stop it!" Billy said.

" Are you scared?" Tommy teased.

" Guys, don't argue!" Peter said while he rested his hand on Billy's shoulder. " Keep your eyes peeled and stay focused, we need to find the Darkhold."

" Sorry..." Billy said.

Tommy looked at his twin Brother before ran his finger tips up his Billy's arm which caused him jump, but Tommy soon stopped what he was doing when he heard a something squeaking from the darkest part of the basement. Tommy immediately grabbed hold of Peter's arm, he glanced around the basement when he heard the scuttling of tiny paws against the stone floor of the creepy basement.

" What was that?!" Tommy asked.

" It could be mouse..." Billy replied.

" Mice aren't fast, Billy!" Tommy said.

" You guys have never watched Mighty Mouse, have you?" Peter asked.

" Who's Mighty Mouse?" Monica asked.

" Oh right, I'm older than you guys in my reality." Peter replied with a sigh, he had forgotten that the year was 1993 in his world." Never mind, just stay close."

" This place looks more eerie than the first time we came down here." Monica said while she shone her torch around the basement. " And what's that smell?"

" I don't know, but it smells familiar." Peter replied.

Monica took Peter to one side for a quick word, she told him that it was the same scent the potion had given off that Agnes had used on the boys. Peter rested his hands on his hips and looked over at the twins, she was right. This whole basement reeked of witchcraft, they needed to find the Darkhold and get the boys to safety. Peter and Monica's conversation was interrupted by the twins, they had both heard the squeaking sound again. Billy and Tommy stayed close to Peter while Monica took a few steps forward with her torch in her hand. She shone her torch around the dark basement, she soon stopped the torchlight on something moving around by the alter.

" What is it?" Monica whispered.

" I don't know..." Peter replied.

" Do you think it's a giant rat?" Tommy asked.

" God, I hope not... " Monica replied.

They dared not move, their gaze was fixed on the little creature moving around near the alter. Billy let go of Peter's arm, he slowly walked over to Monica's side and swinted his eyes. The creature looked furry, it had two long ears and a fluffy tail. A smile crept across Billy's face, he tugged at Monica's arm and looked over at the mysterious creature once again.

" It's Señor Scratchy!" Billy smiled.

" Who's Señor Scratchy?" Monica asked.

" It's Agnes's rabbit, he's evil." Tommy replied.

" No he's not!" Billy frowned.

Billy left Monica's side and hurried over to rabbit, he then picked him up from the ground. Tommy crossed his arm and muttered something under his breath, he told Peter that Billy was quite fond of the little guy. Tommy wasn't too keen on the rabbit, he told Peter that Señor Scratchy had been giving him some weird looks when he had first met him. Peter approached Billy and itched the top of the rabbit's head, he seemed harmless even though he was Agnes's beloved pet.

" I wonder why he's down here?" Billy asked.

" I don't know, we should take him with us in case he gets hurt." Peter replied before he looked over at the alter. " Hey, I think see the Darkhold."

Monica moved the torchlight until it was directly shining on the Darkhold, she approached the alter and ran her finger tips across his metal cover. She kept her gaze on the book until she took it from the wooden book stand, but without any warning Billy yelped out in pain. Peter moved out of the way as Senor Scratchy jumped out of Billy's arms and hurried away to the darkest part of the basement, the rabbit had bitten Billy's finger.

" He bit me!" Billy frowned.

" I told you the rabbit was evil!" Tommy said.

" Let's get out of here, we've got the Darkhold." Monica said, she tucked the book underneath her arm while she stepped away from the alter. " We need to find Wanda, she may need our help."

" You heard the lady, it's time to roll!" Peter said.

Peter put his arm around Billy and began to lead him towards the basement's staircase, but Tommy soon pointed out that there was something wrong with Señor Scratchy. Monica took hold of Tommy's arm and told him to forget about the rabbit, she wanted to get out of the basement like her other companions. They began to make their way up the staircase, but Billy stopped Peter before they reached the basement's open doorway.

" What's that sound?" Billy asked.

" I can't hear anything, keep moving little dude." Peter replied.

Monica and Tommy were about the leave the basement, but without any warning the doors to the outside basement's entrance slammed shut. All that greeted them was darkness, it surrounded them. Billy clung to Peter's waist, he told him that he was scared. Monica tried to open the doors while Tommy joined Peter and his Brother, he had Monica's small hand held torch with him.

" The doors won't budge, we're trapped down here!" Monica sighed.

" Uncle P, what do we do now?" Billy asked.

" I guess we'll have to search for another way out." Peter replied before he looked back at Monica. " Wasn't there another way out of the basement?"

" You're right, there's a door by a hooked curtain down here that leads upstairs to the living room." Monica replied while she joined Tommy's side. " If I remember correctly it's somewhere around the basement, I found it by chance before I found Billy in the kitchen."

" Are you sure?" Peter asked.

" I'm positive." Monica replied.

" Billy, can you remember where the door is located down here?" Peter asked.

" I think it's between two pillars, there were weird vines running along the corridor's walls behind it." Billy replied before he touched his twin's shoulder. " Tommy, shine the torch along the back wall of the basement. There should be a long purple curtain covering it with two hooks on the wall near it. That's how I found it before I escaped the basement."

" Okay." Tommy said.

Monica rested her hands on Tommy's shoulders and watched him guiding the torchlight along the basement wall, it wasn't long until they saw the curtain Billy had told them about. The twins high fived each other before they hurried down the basement's staircase together, they were soon followed by Peter and Monica. They had found the curtain, it was long and purple just like Billy had told them. Monica hooked the curtain over one of the hooks and Peter tried to open the door, but it was locked.

" Figures..." Peter sighed.

" You can pick the lock, right?" Tommy asked.

" I guess, give me a sec." Peter replied.

Peter checked out the lock and took his wallet from his pocket, he told the boys to be his lookout for him. Tommy gave Monica her torch back, he then joined his Brother's side. They both looked around the basement, it was too quiet. They could hear Peter messing around with the door's lock, the odd swear word escaping their fake Uncle's lips made Tommy giggle. But something whizzing passed their feet soon stopped Tommy's laughter, they both looked at each other with fearful expressions on their faces.

" What was that?!" Billy whispered.

" Just a gust of wind, it was nothing..." Tommy whispered.

" What's that smell?" Billy asked before he covered his nose up with his sleeve. " Tommy, did you fart?"

" No!" Tommy frowned.

Tommy punched his Brother's arm which caught Monica's attention, she told them to stop messing around and keep their eyes peeled. But her attention was soon drawn to something whizzing passed her feet, she shone her torch towards the ground which caused Peter to lose his consideration with his lock picking. He looked over his shoulder and slowly got to his feet, there was the overpowering smell of hay in the air once again.

" What's going on?" Peter asked.

" I don't think we're alone down here..." Monica replied.

" Of course we're not alone, there's four of us down here." Peter said.

" You know what I mean." Monica sighed.

Monica rolled her eyes at Peter while he put his wallet away, he then beckoned the twins to join him. But before they even had a chance to reach him they were knocked off their feet by something fast, the boys froze and dared not move. Monica shone her torch around the basement before she hurried towards the boys and helped them to their feet, there was a hint of panic in her voice.

" What the hell was that?!" Monica asked.

" I don't know, but it was fast..." Peter replied.

Peter joined his companions, he explored each and every single part of the basement with his eyes. The sunlight shining down from the basement's window was the only natural light in the room, they were mostly surrounded by darkness. They huggled closer together when something whizzed passed their feet once again, but this time they managed to catch a glimpse of the unknown presence sitting in the patch of sunlight. Billy smilled and took a few steps forward when he saw Señor Scratchy, but Tommy pulled him back. Something wasn't quite right about the rabbit, it looked bigger.

Peter whispered to his group, he told them to stay together while he tried to open the door again. He pulled his goggles over his eyes and time slowed down for him, he glanced at the rabbit before he began zooming around the basement. He was going to use his mutant ability to kick the door down, he did three laps of the basement before he zoomed towards the door. He stopped directly in from of it and kicked the door once, the force behind his kick sent the door flying off it's hinges. Time returned to it's normal pace while he pulled his goggles away from his eyes, there was a loud crash and dust wafted from the now open doorway.

" Let's go!" Peter said.

Monica guided the boys towards the doorway, but without any warning Peter was thrown across the basement by an unseen force. He yelled before he landed on top of the alter, he rolled of it and landed on the ground with a thud. His vision was blurry for a few seconds and he felt something warm dripping from his nostrils, but he soon noticed who had ninja kicked him across the basement. Sitting in the doorway was Señor Scratchy, his once dark eyes were now bright crimson.

" What the..." Peter muttered.

Monica and the boys hurried over to Peter, they soon helped him to his feet. Peter was a little unsteady on his feet, he rested his hand on Tommy's shoulder to steady himself while he wiped some blood away from his nose with his hand. He noticed the boys watching him, they looked frightened. He told them not to worry, he informed them that he'd been into far more worser scrapes than this in his reality. Monica gave the Darkhold to Billy, she told the boys to ready themselve to run towards the door when they had the chance.

" What are you planning to do?" Tommy asked.

" I'm going to play the decoy." Monica replied.

Monica looked at her companions over her shoulder, her once dark eyes were now blue. She turned her full attention towards Señor Scratchy, he was still sitting in the doorway. She moved forward but she stopped dead when the basement around them rumbled, the ground beneath their feet vibrated. Dust from the ceiling began to fall like a scattering of snow, a few of the candles on the alter toppled over and rolled to the ground.

" What's happening?!" Monica asked.

" Look at Señor Scratchy?!" Billy gasped.

" Oh shit, he's a demon bunny!" Tommy yelled.

" You swore!" Billy said.

" I know!" Tommy smiled.

They all watched in horror as Señor Scratchy began to squeak uncontrollable, he fell onto his side and his body violently shook while a purple mist erupted from his mouth. The rabbit's body began to change, the bones of his legs ripped through his skin and his teeth started to resemble daggers. His bones snapped and his new forms began to show. His fur was pitch black, his long cute ears were now jagged red horns.

" Oh my god..." Monica muttered.

Monica back away when Señor Scratchy got onto his paws, the boys back away into Peter. They were trapped in the basement with this monsterious rabbit, there was no way out. Señor Scratchy tore at the stone floor with his claws, his crimson eyes were now focused on the group before him. His nose twitched while low squeaks escaped his drooling mouth, he was ready to attack them.

Peter pulled the boys behind him, he wasn't planning on letting this overgrown rabbit monster harm them. Monica joined Peter's side, she told him they could fight the rabbit together while the boys escaped through the secret doorway. He agreed with her idea, he told Tommy to take Billy with him and get the Darkhold to Wanda. The boys were hesitate about the plan, they didn't want to leave their companions behind.

" What about you guys?" Tommy asked.

" We'll be fine, just get the Darkhold to your Mom." Peter replied.

" Okay, we'll find Mom." Billy said.

" On the count of three..." Peter said.

Peter began to count out loud, Tommy readied themself to zoom his Brother through the doorway near the demon rabbit. Señor Scratchy stepped forward, his hot breath lingered in the air. The word number three left Peter's lips, he then readied himself to distract the rabbit with Monica. But without any warning the doors to the outside basement flung of their hinges, the rabbit growled before one of the doors hit him directly in the face.

Hurried footsteps could be heard entering the basement, it wasn't long until two familiar faces came to view. Erik and Hank stood at the bottom of the staircase, the backup party had arrived just in time. Hank was in his beast form and Erik had somehow acquired his old helmet, they both looked battle ready.

" Whoa, who's the blue guy?!' Tommy asked

" That's Hank, he's a bit of animal." Peter replied.

Señor Scratchy's gaze lingered on the newcomers, he moved forward and roared loudly. Peter and his companions covered up their ears, but Erik didn't seemed bothered by the roars coming from the demonic rabbit. Erik raised his hand and several metal bars came to his aid from the basement's floor, the bars twisted and joined together by knotting themselves into what looked like a metal circle.

" Get ready to run towards me!" Erik said.

Peter couldn't help but smile to himself, he loved when his Father was in Magneto mode as he called it. Erik's voice was full of termination, his gaze was fixed on Señor Scratchy. Hank ran his claws along the wall, he roared before he ran towards the rabbit on all fours. He leaped towards the wall and used his feet to catapult himself over the Señor Scratchy, he was distracting the demon rabbit for his friends. Hank's plan was working, they had the chance to escape the basement.

" Go!" Peter yelled.

Tommy zoomed his twin towards the staircase, they were soon followed by Monica and Peter. The boys were quickly guided up the staircase by Monica, but Peter didn't follow them. He stopped halfway up the staircase, he looked back at his Father and Hank. He couldn't leave them behind, that wasn't the X Men way. He looked up the staircase when he heard Billy calling his name, but his attention was soon drawn back to his mutant family.

" We need to get out of here, it's not safe!" Monica yelled.

" I can't leave them, they're my family!" Peter said.

" Go, we can handle this!" Erik yelled.

" I'm not leaving you here, I'm staying!" Peter said before he looked back at Monica. " Take the boys and run, find Wanda and Vision!"

" We can't just leave you here, come with us!" Monica said.

" We can handle this, just go!" Peter said.

The twins hurried back down the staircase and hugged Peter, they both told him that they wanted him to be their Uncle when this was all over. Peter smiled at the boys returned their embrace, he told them they'd have to ask their Mom first. Monica joined them and took hold of the boys hands, she told Peter to be careful before she guided them out of the basement, he then turned his attention back to Señor Scratchy. He knew what they needed to do, they needed to stop the demonic rabbit before they could help Wanda.
