Ann took Shiho's hand and held it. "I like this."
They were at the Sky Tree, overlooking the city, and there were no people around. Just the two of them. It helped that Haru was basically willing to rent the entire tree for an hour.
They had gotten together officially a few months prior, with some poking and prodding from Ryuji, and so they took a chance and went on a date.
It went wonderfully, of course. Because of that, they were officially together now.
Shiho asked, "What do you like about it?"
"It's just us up here. Nice, quiet, no need to be discreet."
Shiho smiled and leaned her head on Ann's shoulder. "You're right. This is nice."
A few moments passed until they turned to look into each other's eyes. They leaned in closer together, their lips almost touching…
"Hold it! Don't move from that position!"
Ann and Shiho flinched back and whipped their heads around to view one Yusuke Kitagawa, his sketchbook out and a pencil scribbling furiously at the page.
"Yusuke?! What are you doing here? When did you get here?"
Yusuke frowned and looked up at the two. "I believe I asked you two to not move. Can't you see the obvious beauty of this scene? It must be put to page at once!"
"Ann?" Shiho asked, turning to her girlfriend. "Who…?"
"That's Yusuke, he's a bit…" Ann took a moment to find the right words. "Well, he's a bit Yusuke, but he's harmless."
"He seems… eccentric?"
"That's probably a better word," Ann agreed. She turned back to Yusuke. "How'd you even get here? I thought Haru had rented it out for the hour."
Yusuke reached into his pocket and pulled out a slip. "I bought a ticket, naturally."
Shiho asked, "Is it me or did that not really answer the question?"
"It didn't," Ann sighed, pinching her nose.
He stepped up to them. "Ladies, if you could please return to that position, it will only be a few more minutes before I'm done with the basics sketch. No more than five."
"Yusuke, we didn't come here to be your models," Ann replied. "Besides, your last painting of me was really weird."
Yusuke gasped and held a hand to his chest. "How dare you? I put my heart and soul into that painting!"
"What does it look like?" Shiho asked.
Ann waved a hand in the air. "Some weird Picasso looking thing."
"It was not a piece inspired by Picasso, it was-"
"I don't care what it was, the first drawing was better!"
"It lacked soul!"
"I think a painting would be nice," Shiho interjected.
Both Ann and Yusuke shot her a look. Ann's was more pensive, but Yusuke's was positively ecstatic.
"You do?" They both asked at the same time.
Shiho's face reddened and she shrugged. "I mean, this date's been really nice, and if it only takes a few minutes… why not?"
Ann grimaced. Shiho looked so cute like that, and it probably was a very pretty moment…
She turned to Yusuke and pointed a finger at him. "Next time, ask in advance. No more of… of this, okay?"
He placed a hand on his heart and bowed. "Of course. Thank you, Ann. Oh, I don't believe I got your lover's name."
Shiho's cheeks turned crimson at the word, and Ann stuttered out, "S-Shiho! Shiho Suzui! That's her name."
Yusuke turned to Shiho and bowed to her as well. "My gratitude to you as well, Suzui-san."
He stepped up to them and began pushing them closer together. "Now, to get you back into something resembling that stance…"
After a full minute of fumbling with the two of them, Yusuke stepped back and formed a portrait with his fingers. "Hmm… Yes, I believe that will do."
As he went to sketch the image, he was completely unaware of Ann and Shiho, barely an inch apart, both intimately aware of how close they were.
"Sorry about this," Ann whispered to Shiho. "This wasn't part of the plan."
"It's alright, Ann." Shiho smiled. "I got to meet another of your friends, and we get a nice painting out of it."
"Yeah…" Ann said, trailing off. The image of Yusuke's last portrait of her still stood out in her mind. "Still, I really wish he wouldn't do this."
"Think of it like this; at least it makes this a little more memorable."
Ann laughed under her breath. "Honestly, I'm more upset about what he interrupted than anything."
Shiho's eyes flicked over to Yusuke, who was still deeply focused on the sketch pad. "Do you think it would ruin the picture if we finished what we started?"
Ann giggled, Shiho blushed, and their lips finally met for a kiss.
Yusuke looked up and saw they had changed position. He was about to berate them until he saw what they were doing. He pursed his lips into a thin line and looked back down to his sketchbook.
It wasn't what he was intending to draw, but… he could make it work. Sometimes one shouldn't try to change such things.
A week later, Ann hung the painting Yusuke had done of her and Shiho in the bedroom. He had neglected to tell them that he decided to capture the moment of them kissing, but Ann wasn't mad this time.
She stepped back and took a look at the painting and smiled.
Fine, she'll admit it. This made up for Yusuke butting into their date.
Only just, though.
