Daisuke Kurusu wasn't sure what he expected when he went to visit Shujin with his son before the new semester started, but he expected it to be a little… bigger, he supposed.
"This isn't that much bigger than Tokuyama," he muttered, mostly to himself but Akira had heard it.
He shrugged. "It's an exclusive school. Without as many students, there isn't a need for as much room."
Daisuke nodded as they walked through the second floor, showing off where Akira learned last year, when he heard a voice call out to his son.
"Ah, Kurusu-kun! I barely recognized you with the beard." It was a woman's voice, and it sounded nice to his ears.
Akira replied, "Hello, Kawakami-sensei. How has the new year been treating you?"
Daisuke turned around to greet the newcomer and—
Oh. She's gorgeous.
A woman in an orange sweater, a jean-skirt, and curly brown hair stepped up to them. She stopped in her tracks as her eyes fall of him. "Oh, h-hello."
Daisuke waved sheepishly. "Hi."
The woman, Kawakami, turned to Akira and asked, "Kurusu-kun, who's this?"
"This is my father, Daisuke Kurusu. Dad, meet my homeroom teacher last year, Sadayo Kawakami."
Daisuke bowed and stuttered, "Pleasure to, uh, greet, I mean, meet you. Pleasure to meet you."
Kawakami curtsied and smiled. "The pleasure's all mine, Kurusu-san. How are you feeling about Shujin?"
"It's smaller than I imagined, but I don't think it's too bad so far."
"Well, your son is a shining example of our student body, I was honored to be his homeroom teacher last year."
"So I have you to thank for his rising grades."
"Oh, not at all, that was with the help of all the teacher's here I'm sure."
Akira looked between the two for a moment, his mouth slowly dropping open in confusion. There was still a blush on both of their faces to accompany the awkward smiles.
Kawakami cleared her throat. "So, Kurusu-san, how long do you plan to stay in town for?"
Daisuke rubbed the back of his neck. "Um, end of the week, I think."
"Any, um, any plans? Besides spending time with your son, I mean."
"Oh, well, it's been a bit since I was in the city, so I was going to probably see some of the sights," Daisuke replied. "Any recommendations?"
"Well, I know of some interesting sights. If you're free, maybe we could, um, go and see them... together?"
"Yeah, that would be... yeah, I think I'd like that."
Dear God, Akira thought with horror, this was actually happening. His father and Kawakami were... Was flirting the right word? Was he watching his father flirt?
Were they going on a date? His father was single, so it's not like he was breaking any laws, and his mother had been gone for a while, it was just really strange to watch in real time.
He couldn't hide the slightly disgusted look on his face.
Mercifully, a voice called out, "Akira!"
He flicked his eyes over to see Ryuji, his nose still bandaged from being broken a few weeks prior, walking up to them.
"Sup, dude," he greeted. "What're you guys up to?"
Akira pointed towards the display.
Both he and Ryuji took a moment to look at the… strange exchange happening.
"What's happening here?" Ryuji asked, looking between the two adults.
Akira shook his head. "I have no idea."
"...You wanna grab some grub?"
"Yes, please. Anything to avoid this."
Akira would scrub the memory of his father and teacher awkwardly flirting(?) with each other by gorging on meat with Ryuji.
Daisuke and Kawakami would later go on a nice date together. They agreed to meet again some time.
A/N: Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Spino, why on Earth did you pair up Kawakami and Akira's father?"
Well, I have a very simple answer to your very good question.
I thought it was very funny. Also, Kawakami is aged up to her early to mid thirties and Daisuke's in his early forties, so it's fine.
