Chapter 34 Summer of Discovery
While his friends watch on, Ash trains with Froakie for their upcoming Gym battle against Korrina. Unexpectedly, a log descends the waterfall and is about to hit Pikachu, but Froakie saves him by using slashing its arm at the rock.
"What was that?" Ash asks in surprise.
"That looks like the move Cut..." Golly says. "Though I never thought to see Froakie learning an HM move..."
Ash is thrilled, he congratulating Froakie on learning Cut and thanks to it for saving Pikachu.
"How about you try out a Double battle with Froakie's new move?" Clemont asks.
"That sounds like a good idea." Ash says.
Clemont decides to go with Bunnelby and Magneton, while Ash decides to have Hawlucha fight alongside Froakie.
"Okay, you two, you have to work together as a team." Ash says, and before any battling begins Hawlucha holds out a fist to get a fist bump from Froakie. Froakie hesitates, but it does eventually give Hawlucha a fist bump before Bonnie calls for the battle to begin.
"Magneton, use Tackle, Bunnelby, use Double Slap!" Clemont says.
Both Pokemon are charging towards Ash's Pokemon, Froakie dodges the attack, but Hawlucha doesn't dodge Bunnelby's Double Slap.
Mark says, "It seems like Hawlucha is testing Bunnelby's strength..." But Froakie doesn't like it one bit.
Ash tells Froakie to use Bubble and Hawlucha to intercept with Karate Chop. Clemont commands Magneton to use Sonic Boom while Bunnelby keeps using Double Slap. Both Bunnelby and Hawlucha take hits before Clemont then tells Bunnelby to use Mud Shot on Hawlucha. As Bunnelby gets ready, Ash orders Froakie to use Water Pulse on Bunnelby to help Hawlucha out. However, the intervention makes Hawlucha furious.
"Now they are distracted, give them a Super effective Discharge!" Clemont says.
Froakie dodges and the pins end up hitting Bunnelby instead, knocking him out in the process. Soon, Hawlucha gets so furious with Froakie that it uses High Jump Kick on it. Froakie retaliates with Cut, which strikes its ally. Next Hawlucha attempts to use Flying Press on Froakie but gets confused because Froakie uses Double Team.
"Hey, cut it off you two!" Ash yells as he stands in front of them, changing to Ghost Type to make their Cut and High Jump Kick miss.
"You two need to work together because you two are on the same team." Ash sighs. "Now let's change the mood. I have to think of a combo move for you two, it will be called Super Flying Cut."
Ash explains that it starts with Froakie riding on Hawlucha's back, and then it jumps and uses Cut, and then Hawlucha finishes with Flying Press.
"Now if you get it, let's start working on this move." Ash says, but Hawlucha stops him.
"Oh right, you two should make up for your argument first." Ash nods as Hawlucha extends its hand to Froakie, trying to apologize, but Froakie turns away.
"Um, Froakie, you need to make up with Hawlucha..." Ash says, but Froakie continues to turn away, and this causes more fighting between the two. Ash eventually manages to get the pair to work together, but suddenly, two vines appear and grabs Ash's hands.
"What?" Ash is surprised as he is dragged away.
"Ash!" Serena is worried about her boyfriend as they rush to see what's wrong, but as they rush in the direction, they only find the cap, and even Froakie and Hawlucha are missing.
"What's going on..." Bonnie asks.
Golly says, "If I remember correctly...I know that there is a Pokemon in Kalos known as Trevenant, they will eat whoever steps into the forest..."
"No way..." Serena widens her eyes in horror, "Does that mean Ash is going to be eaten?"
At the same time, Ash slowly wakes up from Trevenant's Confuse Ray, and he says, "What the..."
He decides to scan Trevenant, and the Pokedex says, "Trevenant, the Elder Tree Pokémon. A Ghost and Grass type, Trevenant can control trees. It traps those who cause harm to the forest and never lets them escape."
"Hey! I didn't harm the forest! Just let me go!" Ash yells, but Trevenant just tells him to stay calm, much to Ash's anger.
Much to Ash's delight, they find that Froakie and Hawlucha appear and they try to save Ash. Froakie launches a barrage of frubbles, temporarily blinding Trevenant, but fails to hit it.
"Hawlucha, Trevenant is a Ghost Type, your Fighting moves aren't going to work!" Ash yells.
Trevenant approaches Hawlucha with a Shadow Claw, though Froakie stops it in its track with Bubble. Ash is freed as a result, and Hawlucha promptly returns Ash's hat to him.
"I know it is not going to work, but let's try out the Super Flying Cut combo." Ash says.
The two Pokemon try to work together for the move, but Froakie doesn't land perfectly, it causes Hawlucha to simply flies through the Ghost-type, without scoring any damage. Trevenant retaliates with two Will-O-Wisps, but Ash is undeterred and vows to protect his friends.
"Trevenant, I don't know why you are attacking us, but we are not going to harm the forest and you can just tell us what is the problem." Ash says.
Trevenant just simply says, "Follow me."
When they follow the Pokemon, they find a net where a wild Bonsly and Sudowoodo are being held.
"I see, so that's why you take me here..." Ash says as he tries to free the two Pokemon, only to be shocked by electricity, so he quickly changes into Ground Type and tries to free the Pokemon.
"Ash!" Serena and the others arrive and they find the Trevenant Golly is talking about. Ash says, "Wait, Trevenant doesn't mean any harm, he takes me is only to save these Pokemon caught in nets."
"That's horrible..." Serena mutters.
After saving the two Pokemon, Ash is suddenly captured in the net. "What the..."
(Insert Team Rocket Motto.)
"Not you guys again!" East says.
"That is our line! How dare you try to ruin our plan again!" Jessie says.
"I see, the net is your fault." Ash says as he has Hawlucha and Froakie battle Team Rocket while trying to break the net. James' Cofagrigus uses Shadow Ball, but Froakie and Hawlucha both dodge it. Froakie uses its Frubbles to blind Cofagrigus as Hawlucha prepares to use Flying Press. But being a Ghost-type, Cofagrigus is unaffected.
"Do you think that Fighting move is going to go through Ghost Type Pokemon?" James taunts.
"That is what I've planned!" Ash says. And Froakie uses a close-range Water Pulse on Cofagrigus, knocking it out.
After dodging Jessie's Seviper's Tackle and Poison Tail, Ash tells Hawlucha and Froakie to use Super Flying Cut and they get the combo perfect, knocking out Seviper.
Before Team Rocket is about to leave, Trevenant pitches in with a Wood Hammer to smash the remote and free Ash from the net. Pikachu then blasts Team Rocket off with a Thunderbolt.
"Now that is settled." Ash says, and then the Trevenant suddenly asks to come with them, after seeing how powerful his Pokemon are, and Ash is delighted to capture another new teammate.
Ash and his friends are invited to Professor Sycamore's Summer Camp, Ash says, "We are here!"
"Wow, this place looks great!" Golly says. "Not only there is the sea, but there are also forests as well..."
"It really is a perfect place." East says, then they see Professor Sycamore waving his hands at them.
"You guys are just in time." Sycamore says.
"Yeah." Serena says, "We are really excited to go to the Summer Camp."
"Marvelous, now Sophie will be taking you to your cabins, but there is a slight problem with it."
"What's wrong?" Mark asks.
"You see...Clemont, Bonnie, and East, you are going to be in Team Squirtle, while the rest of you will be in Team Froakie."
"So we are going to be separated?" Bonnie says in dismay.
"Don't worry, it is only a week." Ash says.
The group takes enjoyment to the inside of the cabin, and likes the overall conditions. Ash says, "Hey, Serena. Do you remember when we first met?"
Serena smiles at him and says, "I remember, we were also partaking in the summer camp as well."
"We should make this experience a good one as well." Ash says.
"I know." Serena nods.
Golly says, "But who is our fifth partner? She should be here as well..."
"Ash? Everyone?" They turn around and see a girl who is wearing a light blue dress.
"Alice?" Mark gasps as Golly and Alice hug each other.
"Wow, you are also here?" Golly asks.
"I can say the same to you, that is so amazing." Alice smiles.
"Um...Ash? Is she your cousin?" Serena asks.
"Oh, Alice, this is my girlfriend Serena, and Serena, this is Alice, she is the sister of Eve and also a daughter of the two gym leaders in the Kalos Region." Ash says.
"It is nice to meet the person who captured Ash's heart." Alice says.
"Nice to meet you too..." Serena says, she feels familiar with her, but she doesn't know why.
"Why don't we go see who East is pairing with?" Ash asks.
"East is here as well, huh?" Alice asks.
"Yeah, he is with the Lumiose Gym Leader, who also traveled with us." Mark says.
As they go there, they are surprised about who they are paired with.
"Tierno! Trevor!" Ash says.
"Shauna!" Serena says as they are surprised to see East and Clemont pair with three of their friends.
"Ash, Serena, everyone!" Shauna says. "It is so good to see you."
"Yeah, what a coincidence." Tierno says. "It seems like we are also rivals in this camp as well."
Shauna sees Alice and gasps, "Oh my gosh, are you Alice?"
"How do you know about me?" Alice is confused.
"I have seen the Pokevision, you have been working with Scarlet Ketchura in some videos!" Shauna says as she gasps.
"Wait, you are that Alice? The one who works with Scarlet and achieves some more fame?" Serena says in shock.
"Well, I admit that I had worked with her." Alice says with a little blush.
East whispers to Ash, "Really? You have worked with her for some of the videos?"
"Well, yeah, the famous one is the song Let it go." Ash says.
Then the group all go to the Pokemon center, Shauna says, "Oh my gosh! You two are together, congratulations!"
Tierno says, "Dude, you really are lucky, Serena is one of the hot girls back in the school."
Ash says, "Thanks, I guess."
"How did you let Ash fall in love with you?" Trevor asks Serena.
"Well...we managed to bake the same cookies for each other and then we got together." Serena says.
"That is so romantic." Alice says. "May this Amour be forever together."
Then all the people in the Summer Camp are brought to orientation. Professor Sycamore introduces the group to the custodian, Madame Catherine, as well as the chefs, which are Team Rocket in disguise.
"And not to mention, our very own Champion Diantha also participated in this Summer Camp when she was younger. She managed to place in the Hall of Fame with four of her siblings."
"Four Siblings?" Trevor asks. "I wonder which four?"
"There is my Mom, Aurora." Golly says. "Then the Hoenn Champion Wallace, the Team Rocket Boss, Giovanni, and then the Lavarre Gym Leader Valerie."
"Wait, you mean the famous fashion designer Valerie?" Shauna asks her. "She is related to you and Champion Diantha?"
Alice says, "You are talking about my mom."
Serena looks at Ash, "Ash, Valerie is related to you? That is so amazing."
"Well, as we said, half of the Kalos Gym Leaders are Ketchums." Ash says.
Professor Sycamore then initiates that everyone participates in a one-on-one battle, with no points gained so that the participants can all get to know each other.
Shauna asks, "Alice, can I battle you? I want to see how strong you are?"
"Sure." Alice says.
Then Alice sends out a Glaceon, which caught their eyes since it had been partnered with Sylveon in the Pokevision. Ash also decides to use Sylveon to battle Tierno.
"Wow...what a long day..." Ash says after they finish their battle.
"Yeah." Serena says. "I can't wait to see what we can do in the next few days."
Golly asks, "What if we had an event that is at night? When ghosts will come and scare you?"
Ash pales and says, "Please, I don't want to remember that."
"Remember what?" Shauna asks.
"Well, you see, I had partaken Professor Rowan's Summer Camp back in Sinnoh, and one of the events requires to be in the nighttime." Ash says.
"Then what happened?" Tierno asks.
"And when we got to the finish line, then we saw it, the gate to the Spirit World, it is in front of us, trying to suck us in..." This causes everyone to get shivers.
"Are you serious? The gate to the Spirit World?" Trevor asks.
"How did you escape?" Bonnie asks.
"Thanks to Dusknoir, he pushes the ghost girl who opens the world back into the Spirit World." Golly says.
"That is really creepy..." Serena says with a little shiver.
"Says a girl who is also a Ghost Type." Bonnie says, but then she is shut up by Clemont.
"What does Bonnie mean?" Shauna asks.
Serena says, "Nothing, that is all."
Alice whispers to Golly, "Serena is a Pokemon like you?"
"Well, she is the Giratina..." Golly replies as Alice nods. "I see."
Then they have a great night until the day is over.
Here is a new chapter of the Amourshipping, and this time we are going to start the Summer Camp. I hope you like this chapter and the next chapter will be the Pokevision Chapter.
