Bakugou was heading back to the dorms with Todoroki after a long ass day of their remedial training. He would do whatever he needed to in order to get his license, but he was certainly not expecting them to make him play with kids. He could admit there was a bit of a learning curve for both him and icyhot since their parents were sort of garbage and they had no idea how you were supposed to treat a child outside of yelling and hitting. Even if he wanted to be mad at Gang Orca for talking down to him, he appreciated the step by step explanations rather than just the vague 'be nice to kids' that he usually got.
Regardless of progress being made, he was antsy and wanted to explode something. It was so damn frustrating to see his classmates out there kicking ass and debuting as heroes while he spent his days. Stupid Deku had even been fighting the Yakuza the day before. The Yakuza! That's cool as fuck and he didn't get to be there exploding those assholes since he was busy playing jump rope with the brats.
Deku had been out the night before, apparently the girl they rescued wanted the fluffy idiot around, but he should be back before he was at the dorms. And back he most certainly was. He and Todoroki walked into an interesting sight of a small girl with a horn sitting in the pile of blankets referred to as 'the bunny corner' with three rabbits curled up with her. Bakugou could admit that it was objectively cute.
But what wasn't cute and really got his attention (and his adrenaline pumping) was the MOTHERFUCKING VILLAIN IN THE KITCHEN.
He didn't know why no one else seemed to care about the giant lizard dude who was definitely Spinner from the League of Villains. The lizardman was just standing there having a conversation with Kirishima. What the actual fuck?! His boyfriend was chatting it up with the guy who tried to kidnap him and successfully kidnapped Deku! Talk about fucking betrayal.
He got into a fighting stance, as did Todoroki, so at least one person wasn't insane. This made Spinner look over at him with alarm, but Kirishima stepped between them to defend the evil lizard! Were they all hit with a quirk or something?!
"Woah! Izuku said he brought you up to speed on everything? Did you not get his text?"
"What text?"
He thought through anything he was sent that could have been an explanation for this absolute nonsense.
No way.
No fucking way.
"DEKU! You said you found a gecko in the woods!" Specifically the text read 'Hi Kachan! I made a new friend! He's a gecko I met in the forest. I kept him a secret because I didn't want you to yell at him.' He pointed at Spinner accusingly, "He's not a gecko, that's a whole ass human and kinda fucked up to call him a lizard."
The villain finally spoke up, sounding very nervous and unsure. "Um. I actually am a gecko, I have the quirk 'Human'. And I'm not a villain, I was the inside person so they could take down the Yakuza."
Before he could continue to yell at the lizard creep, tiny hands started hitting his leg in the form of an angry little girl.
"Don't be mean to . He's a nice lizard."
Todoroki just shrugged, "Well, if you say he's a nice lizard then I believe you."
Was he the only person who thought this was weird as hell? Kirishima then patted him on the shoulder, "I get it, it's a lot to take in and Izuku should have explained it way better, but he's actually a really cool dude. He just had a real bad hand dealt to him but he's trying to turn his life around and there's nothing manlier than self improvement."
He threw his hands up in the air in defeat, "Fine, I'll be nice to the lizard. But if he gets up to anymore villain shit I'm exploding him."
His boyfriend gave him a giant smile in return. "Now that we've gotten that taken care of, you need to properly meet Eri since she's the cutest little lady."
Wow, Gang Orca had said they would need to learn how to work with kids to be a hero, but he didn't think he'd need it so damn soon.
He crouched down and tried not to be scary for once and followed Gang Orca's instructions the best he could. "Your name is Eri, right? I'm Bakugou Katsuki. I'm training to be a hero with the rest of these nerds."
She nodded shyly and hid behind Spinner's leg.
"Can you tell me about yourself?"
"Um, the green bunny is my animal friend. Because all princesses need an animal friend."
"That's true. Hm, well kid, do you have a favorite princess?"
"I like a bunch of them. I like the one with the long hair because she's like me. But I like Cinderela's dress the most."
He nodded and turned to Ponytail Girl. "Alright, I'm gonna need a princess dress and your best tiara. And not that plastic shit, this princess needs a real crown."
At first he got back a quiet, "But the economy-"
"If I don't see a gorgeous tiara on that little princess in the next ten minutes, the economy is gonna be the least of your worries."
Eri helped by looking up at her with the biggest eyes and awe in her voice, but not quite a smile, "I can have a princess crown?" And while Momo might be able to deny Bakugou being bossy, there was no way she could deny Eri.
Not even half an hour later Eri was in a full princess outfit and sitting in a little wagon that was pulled by Izuku so she could princess wave at everyone around campus. She was accompanied by her two knights, Aoyama and Iida, since they had armor for hero costumes. So when Aizawa came back from filling out the paperwork needed to take in Eri he couldn't help but hide a smile behind his scarf at the little girl finally having a place where she could be safe and happy.
Nezu looked at their newest building with a smile. It had been a lifelong goal to help those like himself, the rest of the animal kingdom that humans seemed to ignore. He always did his best to reach out and help those who had sentience no matter who they were, but it was a difficult fight to do on your own. Laws were hard to change and opinions even more so.
Then Izuku came along and shook up the entire game. People's expectations were just another wall for him to crash through opening up more opportunities than ever before. Nezu knew that he himself would never be the people's favorite, he was too smart to believe that. He looked like a giant rat and his specialty was in manipulation and outthinking his opponents, both attributes that humans were predisposed to dislike. He didn't inspire humans, he made them nervous, but they at least accepted his skills. He was respected, not liked, and that was good enough to get into his position of power. Izuku however, was adored.
He was a fluffy bunny that hit like a cannonball. He was honest, trustworthy, kind, and not intelligent enough to trick humans even if he wanted to. So even if people were divided on Izuku, at least there was a division now. In the past no one wanted animal heroes, but now a larger and larger amount were willing to fight for sentient animal rights.
This growing public support was the first needed step in reaching his goal, or at least this phase of his goal. The second was he had needed some sort of catastrophe. Nothing causes change faster than fear. This came in the form of Eri. He would never wish her fate on anyone, he understood what it felt like all too well to be experimented on in the name of progress and science. But her terrible situation created the fear needed to make things finally move.
When Izuku had come forward and explained the information that Spinner had, the rabbit didn't know how big of a gift he had handed him. He may have twisted the story slightly, but he never outright lied. His telling of the story made Spinner's demands far more absolute and specific rather than the general request to simply have access to citizenship. He may have also been more vague than needed about how close the Yakuza were to making the quirk destroying drug and how much they already had.
All this together had them whipped into a frenzy of fear that they would be losing heroes by the dozens and that their strongest members would suddenly be quirkless if they didn't act immediately. And the only way they could stop this from happening is to comply with Spinner's two demands, to be pardoned for his previous (and admittedly minor) crimes, and to provide a way for sentient animals like him to become citizens.
So after years of fighting them on it, they gave in. They approved his adult education program that would be able to take in any sentient animal and teach them with a certificate at the end that acknowledged them as a citizen with the same rights as a human.
He could finally offer a chance to those in need and it was all thanks to Izuku and his ability to become friends with anyone he meets. Without him they would never have reached Spinner before he truly fell into the depths of villainy. It would have been near impossible to get Spinner out of the League if he had committed murder, luckily all he had on his record at the time was petty robbery and his part in the kidnapping attempt.
Now the next task would be to get the word out and actually find those that would benefit from this program. It obviously wasn't the only reason, but he would definitely take advantage to use this as a way to increase the public opinion on UA since it had been dropping after villain attacks. He would keep the focus on Izuku and his desire to help other cute animals for political reasons while actually helping anyone who needed it because most animals aren't seen as cute to humans, but that shouldn't change their worth.
I couldn't tell you why but this chapter was so hard to write. I don't really like it, but it's done and sometimes that's good enough. I'm hopeful you all enjoy it even though I think I could have done better. I did make a subtle nod to the fact that Repunzel from tangled and Eri have basically the same story. Girl has magic powers that makes people younger/healed, evil person keeps them locked away for their power, evil person pretends to be a parent in order to have more control over this child's power.
and the results are in (imagine a drumroll). between both places I have this posted, 44 people want option A where we go more fluffy, and 33 want more serious. So, because of this a few key moments will be solved with the power of friendship rather than the power of overwhelming violence. I know you were all worried, but there will still be a talking horse.
