Standing in the doorway, her baseball bat at her side, Lila looked at the strange man eating his ill-gotten pastrami sandwich, wiping his mouth with a napkin before looking up at her as she's processing her situation.
"Okay, so, how does this go down?" Lila asked the strange man as he topped his ill-gotten pastrami sandwich with some freshly made tea.
As he rested the empty tea cup on the coaster, the strange man stared at her quizzically as he processed what she asked him.
"What on Earth are you talking about?" asked the strange man as Lila cautiously approached him, her hand tightly wrapped around the handle as she watched him stack the dirty dishes.
Lila casually brought up, "Well, you broke into my flat and you're eating my food, so there's that. Come on, I got work in the morning, is there anyway I can move this on. My boss gains a gray hair every time I'm late."
As bluntly possible, she tells the strange man the summary and he found it amusing.
He encouraged her to put down the bat, that he's not a threat, and rather, he needed her help.
Lila dryly asked if the strange man always broke into people's homes to ask them for help and he adamantly stated he'd never do such a thing unless it's an emergency.
Crossing her arms, still clutching her bat, Lila inquired what emergency the strange man's involved with that he couldn't possibly enter her home the normal way.
She certainly doesn't remember him and she'd recognize him if he went to the library, those blue eyes stood out.
The strange man introduced himself as Theodore and he's in a bit of a problem. He's lost something of his and he's desperate to find it, because of the next bit of a problem he's having.
"Would it relate to those weirdos with the oversized biker helmets and the black leather to go with it?" Lila specifically mentioned those three people she saw and Theodore's eyes widened as he nods.
He stated that they're the ones he's talking about and Lila told them where she saw them.
"I'm guessing they're looking for you and they're none too happy when they do, right?" Lila raised her brow at him.
Nodding, Theodore said that it's like that and that's a problem because he doesn't want them to catch up to him.
"And dare I ask what did you do to, pardon my French, piss them off?" Lila inquired what exactly did the strange man do to incense three strangers with oversized biker helmets.
Theodore moved his long tree arms as he described what exactly happened. He tried his best to explain the situation and it sounded completely insane to Lila as he's explaining to her how he ended up on the list of an angry…
"Son-Ta-Ran?" Lila garbled the word trying to pronounce it as she's trying to understand what insane story Theodore relayed to her.
Shaking his head, Theodore corrected her.
Sontaran.
Gesturing, Theodore described them in detail and when he finished, Lila summed his situation.
"Okay, so, stop me if I get something wrong. They confused you for someone else and they can't exactly be bothered to correct their mistake, so now you have to play "Running Man" in order not to get killed by… killer potato men?" Lila erred at the end as she couldn't fathom what Theodore's telling her.
Nodding, his wild mess of a hair bobbing, Theodore accepted it as a summation of his situation, and now for the problem at hand, he lost something of value during his attempt to escape their clutches.
Describing it, Theodore gestured with his long fingers as Lila watched him, and when he finished, Lila raised her own finger as she asked, "Did it have a crystal inside it?"
Theodore corrected her, but the name's too long, and she doesn't have the mental strength to even attempt pronouncing it.
"Well, you dropped it out in the street," Lila informed him that she found his… Sonic Screwdriver… whatever the hell that is… and she has it stowed away in her desk.
She watched as Theodore rose from his spot, excited. He about hurried over to her, but he stopped himself, and proceeded to do the dishes, cleaned the table, put the chair back under the table, and then hurried up to her.
"Oh fantastic, it's not damaged, is it?" Theodore fretted as Lila eyed him suspiciously.
She calmed him as she replied that it wasn't, but whatever it is, it didn't work.
Hearing this, Theodore frowned as he explained that the crystal needs to recharge. Which he cannot do without obtaining his Sonic Screwdriver.
"Well, it's at the downtown library if you want to wait until tomorrow," Lila flatly told him. "Now, do me a favor and bounce, I require substance and I'm dangerously running past my bedtime. Close the door behind you on your way out and mind your streps. Ms. Hudson hates it when someone stomps on the staircase."
Waiting, Lila wanted him to take leave, because as he walked, she realized how tall he really is, and compared to her height of 5'5", he's a giant. She can't exactly beat Goliath down with a baseball bat, even how much she practiced.
"I can't wait that long. They're out there searching for me," Theodore gestures as he looked down at her. "I'm doomed without it, you must understand that, surely."
Lila eyed him as she tried to process what he said to her and if there's any truth to it. As it stood, she didn't believe a word, but the fact he described the Sonic Screw-whatever to the nines and seemed to know who those faux bikers were, made Lila come around.
"It's not like I can just walk back in, it's past closing time," Lila pointed out that she couldn't get into the library.
Nobody's supposed to be there and Lila can't exactly phone up security to let them through. They're not exactly the type to bend rules for people.
Lila watched as Theodore give her the saddest excuse of puppy dog eyes she's seen while he pleaded for her help. He couldn't wait that long, because as he's trying to find his way to her, he nearly crossed paths with the Sontaran.
"You didn't exactly explain how you came to the conclusion in finding me, sir," Lila pointed out that Theodore didn't explain that part. There's no logical conclusion he should've found her, too astronomical almost considering, and the fact he broke in's not helping his case, either.
Explaining to her in shorthand, Theodore said, "I thought it was a good idea at the time and I needed to hide. It was. You have my Sonic Screwdriver. Now, kindly return it and I'll be on my way," Theodore batted his eyes to the unwavering Lila as she's considering her options.
He broke in.
He stole food.
He's taller than her.
Maybe that'll work in her favor in court.
Strangely, Theodore chided her for going that far and Lila looked at him stunned. She pointed out that it'll be his fault on account he broke into her flat, in the first place!
Countering her, Theodore said he didn't break in. He even showed her that her window's unlocked.
"I locked that," Lila retorted, but to no avail, as Theodore showed her that the lock's broken on the opposite side of the window.
… Ms. Hudson's going to want to hear about this in the morning!
Theodore checked the time and insisted they hurry to the library at once, it won't be long before the Sontaran find her flat.
"How would they get that idea?" Lila inquired how they'd know to look for her flat in order to find Theodore.
Theodore replied, "Well, I ran away from them to hide."
Looking out the window, Lila spots a tall shadow moving through the alleyway before backing away from the window, and rescinding her defense.
"Okay, fine. You win. I get your stupid Sonic Screwdriver back, what then?" Lila asked what's plan after she aided him in getting back his Sonic Screwdriver.
Thinking, Theodore shirked in his spot as he weakly said that he'll try to think of something else.
Baby steps.
Sighing heavily, Lila's forced to put on her socks, boots, jacket, grabbing her badge and keys, before hurrying out the door with Theodore behind her.
Watching their steps, they descended the staircase and hurried out of the building.
The rain picked up and Lila didn't grab her umbrella, she still carried her bat, and that's not exactly an umbrella, but if what Theodore said's true, then she wanted defense against… whatever the hell Sontaran were… which Theodore's light on the details and Lila can't exactly stop to ask because they're running through the rain.
The sidewalk's empty sans stragglers going home from a night out, everyone else's either home or partying somewhere, and traffic's still going well into the night.
Their feet soaked in rain water as they stepped through deep puddles, the two hurried towards the corner leading to the library when they're stopped by a tall figure at the end of the sidewalk, holding something.
"Bo… Na… Wa…!" Lila heard.
There's more to it, but she couldn't understand whatever the figure said, but Theodore seemed to understand it, as he replied with, "Na… Nah… Mah… Nah!"
Still couldn't understand him, but Lila's having problems understanding him as it is, so it's par course, and now she's in a situation.
Oh, how she should've left the damn thing alone and moved on with her life!
"Run!" Lila's jolted as Theodore grabbed her hand and yanked her away as the figure pointed something at them, lighting at the end of the object they're pointing with.
Running for her very life, Lila's pulled by Theodore as he's trying to escape from the Sontaran that found them.
"Why are they upset with you?!" Lila shouted as she's running through winding alleys and everywhere else, trying to get distance between them and the Sontaran.
Theodore replied in between breathing harshly, "They think I'm my father!"
It'd seem these Sontaran are none too bright, Lila concluded. Theodore agreed, as he tried not once, twice, thrice, hundred times, telling them that they're going after the wrong man.
However, Sontaran, as their nature, stubbornly didn't believe him.
Oh, father, how your lies finally caught up to you… in the way of your son…
"What did he do to get them angry?" Lila pressed for answers.
Well, if she's being chased by angry… Sontaran… whatever… she wanted context as to who and why they're after Theodore in relation her, since she's in much trouble as him, that he mentioned.
Due to her associating with him, even unwillingly, Sontaran thinks she's an enemy of the state, too, and that only made Lila even more agitated than she already is about this whole convoluted mess that would've been avoided if she didn't pick up the damn Sonic Screwdriver!
"I don't even know you!" Lila balked at the thought that just by having this man break into her flat, that she's an enemy of the state.
Theodore struggled to say, "Well, I'm not my father, but yet, here we are, so come along, we have much running to do!"
Fleeing for their lives as the three Sontaran went after them, Lila and Theodore managed to arrive at the library in one piece, winded, and sweat mixing with the rain, Lila led Theodore to the back of the library near the loading dock.
Front door's locked, but there's always a truck or two coming through unloading books for them to sort through.
There's supposed to be one unloading now, Lila saw the sheets, and she sees a truck parked near the opened dock.
She checked for the driver, but he's on break, and the night workers busied separating the books by departments.
Sneaking inside the library, Lila led Theodore through the loading dock towards the heavy push doors leading into the lobby.
"Oh, crap," Lila remembered as she stopped. She looked at Theodore as she pointed out, "Cameras."
As a building would, there's security cameras everywhere, and Lila revealed this to Theodore who looked unfazed by this, even though Lila reminded him, they'll be caught by security.
"I mean, it can't be worse, right?" Theodore showed her his pearly whites.
Lila bluntly replied, "You're right, I'm going to be killed by… Sona-whatever… worrying over getting caught by security's just beans to the liver!"
Never liked liver, never liked beans, Lila hated them both.
Theodore meekly replied, "Silver lining?"
Groaning, Lila marched on as Theodore trailed behind as she led him through the lobby, avoiding the counter.
Lifts don't run after the library closes, so they're forced to take the stairs.
Lila hunched closed to the ground as she walked up the stairs, trying to avoid security that're known to make their rounds on the staircase at this hour.
Surprisingly, however, security's pretty barebones, tonight.
Libraries aren't holding the Ark of the Covenant or anything like that to warrant a fleet of security guards.
Computers, rare books, donated art pieces worth thousands, plenty of reasons why they needed guards at night. Insurance would've thumbed their noses otherwise if libraries this size didn't do a good job protecting everything after hours.
Leading him up the staircase to her department, Lila turned right, and Theodore followed her through the darkened lobby of her department. Going towards the "Employee Only" marked door, Lila's fiddling with her badge, but Theodore went up to the door and opened it just fine.
"Wait, that shouldn't be unlocked," Lila blinked.
Everything's locked up after they leave. If it wasn't, security would've done it themselves and let the employees know in the morning report.
Theodore shrugged his wide shoulders as he told her, "Maybe someone forgot?"
Sighing, Lila marched forward as she located her desk in the darkened area and fiddled with her key as she unlocked her drawer.
Sliding it towards her, she reached in, and baffled as she felt around the drawer filled with whatever she wanted to fill it with for the moment.
It's not there.
"I swear I put it in there before I left!" Lila's baffled as she nearly turned her drawer over, trying to find the missing Sonic Screwdriver.
She swore putting it in the drawer and locking it before leaving. She didn't take it with her and nobody messes with her things unless they want to face a backhand of proportional size!
Panicked, Lila struggled, but came up empty.
Distressed, Theodore inquired who else had access to her drawer.
"Nobody else but me," Lila informed him. When asked about keys she replied, "Well, I have my copy and my boss."
Looking at her, Theodore asked, "Well, where's your boss?"
As they're looking at each other, in the darkened room, they heard a man with similar accent as Theodore reply, "Right here."
His eyes widened; Theodore looked towards the source of the sound to see…
"You!" Theodore winces at the sight of a man as he leaned on his umbrella, eying him from across the room.
He casually replied, "Hello, little brother."
