Chapter 10

Thoughts were racing a mile a minute through the young saiyan's mind, how could his tail have possibly grown back, it had been years!? In a panic Gohan had fled to the safety of the forest, not caring who saw him because he had worse things to think about, the first and most obvious being that normal wizards don't have tails.

Pacing back and forth, Gohan's newly grown appendage swaying back and forth with the movement, the answer popped into the young scholar's head. The potion, of course! But that would mean...24 hours with his tail?! Taking deep breaths Gohan focused on calming down, after all everything would be okay. The easiest solution at the moment for the young saiyan was obvious, the school robes were super billowy, he could easily hide his tail underneath them until it went away again…hopefully… Feeling a bit better about his situation, Gohan took stock of his tail. It was oddly comforting, having the furry appendage back brought back fond memories of the comfort his tail had given him when he was very young.

Gohan decided to practice securing his tail around his waist in the way he remembered Vegeta and the Saiyan's had their tails when they first came to Earth. When he was a little kid he had just let his tail hang free with a mind of its own not knowing any better. Thinking back to being the little kid with a tail and no worries in the world was weird; things had changed so much for Gohan since those innocent times.

Feeling a lot calmer about his reacquired tail, Gohan made his way back out of the forest, tail securely tucked around his waist under his robes. Gohan realized it was almost time for dinner, which was cause for celebration in itself after the horrible day that he was having.

It was a little early for dinner so there were not many other students in the Great Hall yet, which Gohan was more than happy about. He had already had his fair share of whispers for the day, so sitting alone at the end of the Gryffindor table Gohan proceeded to chow down. After he was finished, the young saiyan decided to make his way to the library, deciding it was a good spot because he still really didn't want to see anyone if he could help it. He had a couple of hours before he was due to go to Astronomy that night and decided he may as well work on some homework while he was there. Gohan hid himself away in the stacks with his books until it was time to leave.

As part of his usually routine Gohan usually met up with Scorpius on the landing between their two dorms on the nights the two boys had Astronomy class together. Tonight, when Gohan reached their usual meeting spot he saw that Albus was there with Scorpius who was already waiting. That's right, all the first years are together for class today because it was a full moon tonight. Gohan perked up, happy to have one more ally amidst the group of students that were sure to still be gossiping about him.

"Hey guys." Gohan simply stated in greeting trying to appear normal despite the day he was having. The blond and the black haired boy turned towards Gohan at his greeting.

"What's happening Big Bro?" Scorpius joked obviously trying to help Gohan feel better with a reminder of the good news from that morning.

Gohan smiled at his friend while Albus slapped a hand on Gohan's back in greeting. The shorter boy's hand clapping dangerously close to where Gohan's tail was wrapped around his waist. Unconsciously the young saiyan jumped a bit, which made Albus gave Gohan an odd look.

"Uh just still a little jumpy after our Potions accident." Gohan explained.

"Oh man, I still can't believe those two got away with that today!" Albus exclaimed, "Next time Amelia pokes her ugly face in front of our potion I'm gonna give her a piece of my mind." Albus huffed, clearly not over what happened earlier that afternoon. Gohan nodded in agreement at his green eyes friend, but couldn't help but inwardly chuckle at his friends' words. He knew Albus was too timid to actually tell off two of the most popular kids in their Year, but he enjoyed the idea of it anyway.

The trio had began their walk up the winding stairwell that led towards the Astronomy Tower, bright light from the moon lit the long thin windows way better than the torches did on ordinary days. Stepping into the brightly lit staircase from the hallway, Gohan felt his skin began to crawl.

"Is it really hot to anyone else?" Gohan rubbed at his arms beads of sweat forming on his brow.

"Er no not really, but I'm usually cold." Scorpius replied, Albus nodded his head in agreement with the blond as they continued up the stairs.

A few seconds later, Gohan knew that he couldn't take the feeling of his heavy robes on his body another minute. Deciding if he just un-tucked his shirt it would be good enough to keep his tail out of sight. It would have to be good enough because Gohan quickly pulled off the offending garment.

Gohan stopped for a moment in the seemingly never ending stairwell for a breather, his whole body felt like it was boiling and a stinging tingle spread all across his extremities.

"You alright Gohan?" Albus asked looking back to where Gohan had stopped, coming closer towards the half-saiyan, the dark haired boy peered closer, getting a good look at the other boy in the bright moonlight. Gohan had his eyes closed and was breathing heavily.

"You don't look so good Gohan…" Albus said with concern, "Here let me take that." He grabbed Gohan's heavy book bag off his shoulder.

Gohan couldn't be bothered with a response; he had already turned towards the window hoping for a reprieve from the claustrophobic feeling around him. He opened his eyes to look out the window, his pupils staring straight into the bright light of the rising full moon. The half-saiyan stood entranced at the look of the full moon through the slim window pane, the tingle throughout his whole body transforming into a more painful pricking sensation.

A muffled voice and a tug on his left arm made the young saiyan turn around to look at the pale face of a dark haired boy in the moonlight...his friend? The boys face was filled with concern his lips repeating the same words over and over, "Gohan...Gohan."

A moment of clarity ripped through the young warrior, Gohan glanced down to his hands clutching onto his robe. Patches of brown fur were beginning to sprout from the back of his hands, the look brought a flashback to one of the most terrifying sights Gohan remembered in his young life. Vegeta towering over his Dad, beating the life out of him before turning his giant monkey features on him and Krillin. The pieces that were long missing and forgotten suddenly fit together in the boy's moon addled brain, that weird bright glowing orb…Vegeta transformed into a giant monkey…trying desperately with Krillin and Yajirobe to cut off Vegeta's tail because Krillin knew once it was gone Vegeta would shrink down to normal size…Krillin knew, he knew because he had grown up with his Dad, his Dad, his Dad had a tail...his tail, his tail, his tail, his tail. Crap.

Turning around Gohan sprinted down the stairs towards wherever he could find an exit, his human brain keeping him just on the edge of reason. Finding the first window with a large enough space for the young boy to squeeze through, Gohan threw open the glass and after stepping outside he flew as fast as he possibly could. Keeping his eyes shut he flew towards the forest, but he knew he didn't have long, as the moment of clarity his friends had provided blurred away with the onset of the transformation. The desire to look at the moon was far too overwhelming, and at long last Gohan collapsed into the dense foliage and succumbed to the transformation.

Flashing images, memories of the night a stairway, the window, the moon quickly blurred into raw feelings, fear, anger, so much anger. The fresh smell of the outdoors and the chattering of animals awakened the senses of the young saiyan. The first thing Gohan heard was the chirping of birds before the first rays of morning hit his eyelids. Opening his eyes the boy found himself in a clearing in the forest, though perhaps not a natural clearing, there was turned up earth everywhere he looked as well as fallen trees with broken limbs. The next thing he noticed was that he was stark naked.

Surveying the damage Gohan suddenly knew, it was me. Gazing down again at his reacquired tail, flashes of giant monkey Vegeta flashed through his brain, why hadn't he ever realized there was a reason why he didn't have a tail anymore? All the missing pieces of his young childhood suddenly slotted together.

Waking up one morning during the beginning of his training with Piccolo, tailless with new clothes and a destroyed desert landscape he hadn't ever noticed before…The awkward conversation after they had beaten Vegeta, his Dad incapacitated telling him how good he had done against Vegeta even though he didn't remember the end of the fight.

Shaking his head from the memories realizing how naïve he had been while also wondering why no one had ever told him about what happened. Then again, there had been no reason to, no one's tails had ever grown back.

Suddenly horror about his present situation flooded the young boy, he knew he had kept his cool long enough to get out of the castle but he couldn't remember how far he had gotten before succumbing to the monster. If he was anywhere near as large as Vegeta was, there was no way he didn't cause horrible damage, which was evident by the immediate landscape around the young boy. Standing up, Gohan decided he would first have to figure out where he was, then he could figure out how much damage and subsequently how much trouble he had gotten himself into last night.

Rising into the air and slowly lifting himself through the tops of the trees Gohan peaked through to survey the immediate area. Nothing but treetops surrounded the boy in all directions. Reaching out his senses he tried to focus on the now familiar energies of the castle. Picking up a faint signal of the magical signature that surrounded all the witches and wizards of Hogwarts, Gohan realized he was actually pretty far away from the castle. A small spark of hope filled the boy that maybe he flew far away enough in time. But before getting his hopes up Gohan needed to survey the area to see what kind of damage he had done last night, after all he had no idea how far he could have traveled as the monster last night.

From the trampled clearing he had risen from, the young boy soon saw a pretty obvious path where a huge creature would have stomped his way through. Following the trail, Gohan realized the damage wasn't quite as bad as he was fearing, many of his sparring sessions with Piccolo and his father had resulted in worse damage to landscapes around his home. Still following the path, Gohan came upon a few spots where obviously an energy blast had been fired but it looked like the only victims were boulders and trees, sadly probably some animals added Gohan's logical mind. Still there was no sign of humanity anywhere near where the path had taken him.

Gohan finally came upon a clearing where the path of destruction ended. This clearing was bigger and more heavily trampled than the one he had woken up in. Slowly floating down, a piece of black fabric on the ground filled the young saiyan with horror. Rushing towards the spot, relief flooded the boy's whole body when he realized that the robe actually belonged to him. Flashes of taking his robe off in the stairwell before he lost all reason filled in the mystery because there were no other clothes in sight. Gohan had to think that growing into a forty foot tall monkey must have resulted in their disintegration otherwise he wouldn't be currently flying around in his birthday suit.

Gohan picked up his intact, albeit very crumpled and dirty robe and shrugged it on, it was better than showing up in nothing back at the castle. Following the magic signatures he picked up on earlier, Gohan floated his way through the forest back to the castle. Shaking his head, all Gohan could think was that he was thankful he had managed to get so far away from civilization before transforming. The small fragments of memory he had didn't guarantee no one noticed him leave but all he could be glad about was it seemed that no one was hurt.

Tightening his tail around his waist as well as pulling the ties on his robes firmly closed, Gohan emerged from the edge of the forest just north of Hagrid's cabin. Knowing he had to be careful going back into the castle Gohan snuck across the grass towards the entry doors. Quietly making his way through the doors, the rich smell of breakfast hit Gohan's nose as well as his stomach hard. A loud rumble emitted from the young boys stomach and Gohan knew immediately that he wasn't going to be able to pass the Dining Hall without eating first. Clearly the transformation last night expended a lot of energy, Gohan couldn't remember the last time he had felt quite so hungry, perhaps after his father and him had emerged as Super Saiyans from the Room of Spirit and Time and had proceeded to empty the kitchens of the Lookout.

The large clock above the entry to the Great Hall indicated it was quarter to seven, Gohan hadn't known the exact time because his watch was one of the casualties of last night, crossing his fingers he hoped that food would be out. Another grumble from his stomach ensured the half-saiyan that he needed to eat despite showing up in the dining hall in nothing but a robe. There were no other students in the Great Hall yet so Gohan took a seat near the end of the Gryffindor table, which was sadly void of food. Lowering his head into his folded arms and closing his eyes, Gohan resigned himself with the fact that he would just have to wait for breakfast to begin.

"Does the young scholar wish for some breakfast now?" A squeaky voice startled Gohan out of his reverie, and he looked up in shock. Standing in front of him at the table was a small creature, it looked sort of like the goblins that he saw at the bank, but significantly less scary. It's huge brown eyes starring up at young saiyan reflected only kindness, while its big floppy ears made it look cute and innocent. She (if Gohan was going to guess) was wearing what looked like a dress made from a starch white tea towel with the Hogwarts crest on a belt, which was fastened around her waist.

"Ummm." Gohan had no idea how to reply still startled by the creatures sudden appearance. Another large growl of his stomach however seemed to answer the question for the creature.

"Yosey will get the young scholar breakfast right away!" The creature squeaked with excitement and with a small pop was gone. Before Gohan had time to think if he was now hallucinating on top of turning into a raging giant monkey at night, the small creature was back carrying with her a large tray filled with an array of breakfast items.

"Yosey picked out the best dishes for the young scholar." She said with a smile, huge eyes growing wide with delight at the boys amazed expression.

"Uh thank you, thank you so much! Uh Yosey was it?" Gohan gushed his thanks, the smell of all the dishes almost overwhelming his manners.

The small creature blushed a bright red, and nodded her head, "Yosey is always glad to serve the young sir."

"Please, call me Gohan. Wow, this looks even more amazing than usual!" Gohan's mouth began to salivate in anticipation.

"Yosey heard from the other House Elves that a young scholar from the Old Country eats all the food we's send up, even the ones the other students pass up!" The tiny creature squeaked again with a happy smile, it was Gohan's turn to blush.

"Uh, guess that's me." Rubbing the back of his head with a grin, Gohan hadn't realized that the cooks in the kitchen who Gohan now realized were creatures like Yosey knew about him because of his insatiable stomach.

"Yosey knew you was him!" She said with another happy bob of the head. "Yosey can see the Old Country aura on Master Gohan, Yosey must tell the other House Elves!" With a gleeful smile Yosey disappeared once more leaving a very confused half-saiyan in her wake.

The ravenous boy quickly made his way through the pile of food Yosey had brought up for him. Barely coming up for air, Gohan's full focus was on the food until he was startled by the sound of slamming books across the table from him. Looking up, Gohan came eye to eye with Rose Granger-Weasley.

"Feeling better Gohan?" The red haired girl asked in her usual suspicious voice.

"Umm what?" Gohan questioned having no idea what the girl was on about and still preoccupied with his food.

"You weren't in Astronomy last night." Rose stated simply. Memories of the night before quickly came rushing back to the wild haired boy now that his feasting was interrupted. "Al said you were sick," Rose continued before Gohan said anything which actually filled the young saiyan with relief, his friends had just thought he was sick, not that he was on the verge of turning into a monster.

"Yeah, I uh wasn't feeling right on the way up to class." Gohan answered, technically it wasn't a lie…

"Seems rather suspicious to miss out on class during the full moon, now doesn't it?" Rose continued on in an airy voice. Gohan twitched just a tiny bit surprised that the girl would make that sort of assumption right away. The red head adjusted her gaze to stare the wild haired boy straight in the eye.

"Now I know that most everyone thinks you were just hiding away because of what happened to Glassman yesterday, but I know better." Gohan frowned at what Rose had said, remembering that yesterday was awful even before his tail came back.

"By the way, his hand is perfectly fine now, just incase he tries to guilt you about it." That actually was a relief for Gohan, he really hadn't meant to hurt that boy yesterday, but Rose continued on, not waiting for a response.

"Also I just wanted you to know, I think it's awful what they were saying about you in Charms. You might be a geeky weirdo, but you're not an insane criminal like everyone was saying." Rose smiled to comfort the boy across from her, "Besides I heard the truth through the grapevine, that you're going to be a big brother soon, congrats."

"Thanks," Gohan muttered, it was nice that she seemed to believe he wasn't crazy like those other kids did, but bringing up everything that happened yesterday still was a huge downer to the strong boy.

"Hey it's okay. I don't know how things are for you in East District or anything…but because of my Mom, werewolves are treated so much better here than they were just twenty years ago." Rose whispered. At that Gohan looked up in confused surprised at the girl. The ginger haired girl's face looked sympathetic as opposed to inquisitive for a change.

"You think I'm a Werewolf?!" Gohan yelped in surprise.

"Well yeah, like you're obviously pretty mysterious, and werewolves are super strong, I mean you did break Glassman's hand pretty bad. Then obviously the being 'sick' on full moon thing." The red head added in air quotes, obviously believing that Gohan had excused himself from Astronomy for a reason. Gohan had to hand it to the girl, all the signs added up, he actually laughed to himself, yeah more like Weremonkey.

"So… you're not a werewolf?" Gohan shook his head no without speaking because he was sure if he said anything, the smart girl would figure out just how close she actually was to the truth.

"Huh… I really thought I was right on that one. You win this round Son, don't think I'm not going to figure you out." Rose shook her head and chuckled to herself. "Well I better go, see ya around Son." Rose got up from the table and moved down the bench to be closer to her friends who had just arrived at breakfast.

Gohan just shook his head, Rose Granger-Weasley was the strangest girl he had ever met. Ever since their incident near the lake, Rose decided that every once in a while she would confront the young saiyan and grill him with all sorts of crazy questions. It had obviously became something of a game for the red head, and Gohan realized he didn't mind it so much, sometimes her theories were downright hilarious 'Son, were you ever offered an experimental candy at a chocolate factory?', while other times they hit a bit close to home 'Quick, tell me the name of the spaceship you arrived on!'

Rose didn't hang out in Eddie's group, which was a relief, and overall she seemed to be pretty nice, except for being far too inquisitive for her own good. Little did the red head know, her interrogation this morning had Gohan's head swirling thinking about what had happened last night. The young saiyan may not actually be a Werewolf, but honestly if he had to admit it he probably turned into something worse. The half-saiyan couldn't contemplate his predicament further because at that moment, the arrival of his blond and black haired friend took him out of his mind.

"Were you talking to Rose?" Albus asked clearly surprised as he and Scorpius plopped down on the opposite bench from their friend.

"She was doing most of the talking actually." Gohan honestly said, thinking back to her interrogation.

"Sounds like Rose." Albus sighed, they had been getting along a bit better, obviously by the fact that she knew that Gohan was 'sick' last night but their relationship was still strained. Whatever happened between the two cousins was far too dramatic for either Gohan or Scorpius to want to get involved with.

"So err Gohan, feeling better today?" Scorpius asked, clearly unsure of what to say to his friend.

"Yeah how are you? You like literally flew so fast down the stairs from Astronomy last night, I told Professor Sora you were sick, but after class neither Scorp or I could find you." Albus explained, obviously Gohan had worried his friends last night.

"Glad you're better though, we were going to go on a hunt for you if we didn't see you this morning." Scorpius added in, both boys clearly relieved to have found Gohan at breakfast.

"Yeah, I'm um back to normal now, sorry I freaked you guys out, it just came on so fast." Gohan laughed rubbing the back of his head relieved to realize that neither boy saw what was happening to him last night.

"I took notes for you, I just felt so bad, you looked awful before you ran off." Scorpius admitted.

"Thanks, I appreciate that." Gohan smiled truly grateful for his friend. Gohan turned back to his plate and started loading up on the new food that had started appearing on the table. He had finished off the tray from Yosey just before his friends arrived.

"Well, you definitely seem better if the amount you're stuffing your face is any indication." Albus laughed but then paused, "Oh by the way, here's your bag." The green eyed boy handed Gohan's school bag to him over the table.

"Thanks, I don't even remember leaving it." Gohan admitted, glad that he hadn't lost all his books somewhere in the forest.

"You really were out of it huh. Wait." Albus perked up obviously an idea popping into his head. "Do you think it has to do with the potion yesterday? I know Kama said ours was perfect, but what if it wasn't?!" Albus finished with obvious concern. Gohan didn't immediately reply, he knew it was because of the potion, but that wasn't the real reason behind everything.

"Maybe..." Gohan replied weakly, if the potion was the culprit, his furry little problem would be gone by the end of the day. Hopefully. His brain added, after all who knew how that potion would react to a half-breed saiyan. "Um I gotta go guys, I need to get my books for class today." Gohan stated indicating to the book bag Albus had just returned. The truth of the matter was, now that he was fed, Gohan needed to sort through some things and that involved actually getting ready for the day.

"Ok see ya Gohan." Albus and Scorpius chimed as their wild haired friend departed the table and made his way out of the Great Hall.

"Uh did I see that right Scorp?" Albus turned to his blond friend.

"Yeah, did Gohan not have any shoes on?" Scorpius laughed, "Sometimes I worry about that kid." The two friends shook their heads and laughed fondly at their strange friend.

So funny story, I actually wrote a different version of this chapter first where Gohan knew about what would happen during the full moon, but it wasn't sitting right with me so I went back to read and watch the episodes in question around the Saiyan saga and in my opinion Gohan has no clue what his tail does and never remembers what happens much like Goku didn't until Vegeta told him. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I did just skip to the parts I needed and haven't watched the full episodes in a few years. In any case I like to think since Gohan is older and stronger he was able to keep his mind a little baby bit even if he still went on a crazy rampage. Also I refuse to call the Oozaru a Great/Giant Ape, apes don't have tails...Also fun news, some DB characters may be making an appearance in the next chapter, so get pumped! Lol Anyways thanks as always for reading, and let me know what you think!
