It's a cold morning at UA High School, as evident by the state of the main entrance. A thin layer of frost lies on the ground running alongside the stone path, the rising sun causing the ice to shine a glistening white with patches of green grass poking through from underneath. The trees along the path however are completely bare, the leaves and flowers having wilted away some time ago. A gust of wind blows through, causing the thin branches to sway back and forth.
Undaunted by the weather, several of UA's students make their way into the building, a stream of grey uniforms travelling up the path, set on making a start to their day. Amongst those students is Izuku Midoriya, who, in contrast to his head of curly green hair, has a scarf decorated with bright blue red and yellow stripes wrapped tightly around his neck. But despite this he is still affected by the cold, with his breath condensed into a thick mist.
With his yellow backpack resting on his shoulders, Izuku continues up the path when he hears a voice call out to him.
Hey Midoriya! Wait up!
Curious, he turns back to look at the front gate behind him and sees Mina Ashido running towards him. She has a bright smile on her face, her pink skin vibrantly standing out from the grey jacket of her uniform.
She too has a backpack with her, a plum-like purple in colour with small turquoise spots spread across the straps. Holding onto said straps, she swiftly approaches the teen before coming to a stop beside him.
Izuku: Hey Ashido.
Mina: How's it going?
The two teens begin to make their way to the school entrance together.
Izuku: Pretty good. What about you?
Mina smiles brightly.
Mina: I'm doing great!
This statement however is immediately contradicted when another gust of wind blows by, causing her to shiver.
Mina: Some weather though, right?
Izuku looks up at the sky. Again, his breath condenses into smoke.
Izuku: Yeah, looks like we're fully into winter now.
Mina then winks and playfully nudges Izuku's arm.
Mina: But I'm sure you couldn't tell, right? That scarf looks really warm!
Looking down, Izuku places a hand on the scarf and feels the knitted texture of the fabric between his scarred fingers.
Izuku: I guess so. It seemed like the right time to start wearing it.
The wind picks up and Mina shudders again, scrunching up her face and tightly clinging to the straps of her backpack as it blows by.
Mina: You could say that again!
Green eyes look at her with concern.
Izuku: A-Ashido? What's wrong?
She turns back to Izuku and gives him a reassuring smile.
Mina: I'm fine. Just really, really cold!
The smile fades as she continues to shiver.
Mina: It's my own fault though. I left a lot of my warmer clothes at home.
She then rolls her eyes and speaks in a sarcastic tone.
Mina: "Don't worry mom and dad the dorms are only five minutes away, I don't need to bring all that stuff!" Serves me right for not listening to them, doesn't it?
Izuku is hesitant to respond.
Izuku: I-It's unfortunate.
Eventually, the two enter the school building. Now inside, Mina stops and sighs in relief.
Mina: Ah, that's so much better! I don't think I could take another minute out there!
Izuku looks at her nervously.
Izuku: Well, All Might told me that today's training will focus on outdoor. Are you sure you'll be okay?
Mina turns to him with a giddy expression.
Mina: Ha! No need to worry then! It's a whole different story when I have my costume on! The fur collar on my jacket's the cosiest thing around!
Mina shrugs her shoulders.
Mina: Honestly, I'd wear it all the time but the last thing I need is Mr Aizawa giving me a lecture about the proper dress code.
As if out of nowhere, Mr Aizawa now stands behind them with an unamused and tired look on his face. The two teens seize up in fear.
Aizawa: I wouldn't worry about that Ashido. But if you continue to loiter in the foyer and aren't in class in the next two minutes, I'll be giving you a lecture about punctuality instead. That goes for you too Midoriya.
Izuku: Y-yes sir!
Mina: You got it!
The two begin to move at a swiftly through the school corridors, much to Aizawa's annoyance. He calls out to them.
Aizawa: And no running in the halls.
Scared, they continue along at a much slower pace.
The next day, Mina heads out of the dorm building. Again, the cold has set in with frost covering the ground and the wind blowing with much stronger force than before. Dressed in her uniform, she prepares to brave the elements, breathing into her hands for warmth, mist forming around them.
She is then surprised to see Izuku standing in front of her in his uniform and scarf.
Mina: Oh, mornin' Midoriya!
Izuku fidgets with the strap of his backpack, slung over his shoulder.
Izuku: G-good morning Ashido.
Mina: What are you doing, standing around outside like that? You'll freeze!
He has a shy smile on his face.
Izuku: I was waiting for you, actually.
Mina raises an eyebrow in disbelief.
Mina: You were?
Izuku removes the backpack from his shoulder and begins to open it.
Izuku: I wanted to give you this.
He pulls out a moderately-sized package made of tissue paper, light magenta in colour. He then hands it out for her with a nervous expression.
Izuku: H-here…
Mina is unsure of what to say as she takes the package from him. Her golden eyes widen and become filled with wonder as she studies the wrapping.
Mina: Midoriya...
She then enthusiastically tears into the paper, opening the gift with ease.
Soon, enough of the packaging is gone to finally allow her a peek inside. Mina gasps. Her face is overcome with joy when she sees the item within and Izuku cannot help but form a faint smile at the corner of his mouth.
Mina removes the rest of the paper to reveal a scarf made of thick white fur, much like the collar of her hero costume. She smiles with glee as she holds out the scarf in front of her.
Mina: Did you really get this for me?
Izuku nervously looks away from her and begins rambling.
Izuku: W-well I noticed how you were struggling with the weather yesterday and how much you liked your jacket. So I, uh, thought it would be something you'd like to have? B-but it's fine if you don't! Y-you can always change it for something better, I think there's a receipt in there somewhere-
Mina: Are you kidding?
He turns back to see Mina wrap the scarf around her neck.
Mina: I love it!
Immediately, she snuggles up to the scarf, feeling the comfort of the soft fur against her skin. Her smile grows wider and wider with delight.
Mina: Wow, so fluffy! I feel warmer already! It's perfect!
She looks at him with a tender look on her face.
Mina: Thank you, Izuku.
He smiles back at her.
Izuku: I-I'm glad you like it.
Mina pauses for a moment, reaching out to him.
Mina: Wait, this is too nice of you. I'm gonna have to pay you back at some point.
At this suggestion, Izuku instantly begins to wave his hands around in an attempt to dissuade her.
Izuku: Oh no, there's no need! R-really!
She begins to move towards him, Izuku stepping back in turn.
Mina: Now, now! I insist!
Izuku: Y-you don't have to M-Mina, honestly.
Mina inches closer and closer and is eventually right in front of Izuku.
Mina: Aw, come on! I have the perfect gift for you!
Izuku: A-already?
Mina: Yep, it's right here!
Grabbing hold of Izuku's scarf, Mina pulls him towards her.
The two lock lips in a brief but passionate kiss.
After breaking apart, Mina looks at Izuku with a wry smile on her lips. Izuku meanwhile looks dumbfounded.
Mina: Hmm, I still don't think that was enough. Can you give me more time to think of something else?
Izuku: S-sure thing.
End.
Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas!
This is actually a pretty special moment for me also because this story will mark a whole year of monthly stories since "Twice Upon a Christmas" in 2020. So, I'd like to give a huge thanks to everyone who's read my stories and supported me so far! I can't express how much it means, really.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep to the same consistency going forward but I promise I'll keep doing my best to bring you more, hopefully enjoyable, stuff.
