Walking with Theodore and Lila, Mike's lead towards something peculiar situated on the path near the park. As he approached it, he briefly stopped as he realized what it is, a weathered blue police box. He hadn't seen many police boxes in a while, but he swore coming here the day before, it wasn't there. Theodore turned his head and called for Mike to come and he obeyed the stern Theodore as he slowly approached the police box.
With the key in hand, Theodore opened it and stepped inside with Lila behind him. Mike ended up asking them about it as he meekly looked towards it, "What is this thing?"
Theodore sharply tells him, "No time, come, come, we've important business, indeed!"
To the point, he demanded Mike to come inside, much to his hesitation, and he pushed himself through the doorway, expecting it to end up a hoax, but found that he's standing in a large area.
"H-how?" Mike took off his round glasses briefly as he looked around before putting them on again.
Theodore summed the TARDIS' existence for him and when he finished, he sees Mike's amazement as he went towards Theodore.
"W-what're you, alien? Time traveler?" Mike asked the tall man as his large hands moved around the shiny console, having cleaned it with Lila's aid yesterday, while pushing buttons and flipping switches.
Theodore summed, "Half and on my off-days."
He's one-half Time Lord and one-half human and when he's not working at the library, he travels in the TARDIS with Lila. Much to his big brother's annoyance.
"How... how's this even possible?" Mike inquired how it's even remotely possible that he's standing in the middle of a time machine, talking to a madman who's part alien.
Lila spoke up as she explained in a shorthand, "Eh, it's like time-y whime-y sort of thing... just something that doesn't happen very often. If it does, you probably won't even see it."
Theodore requested Mike's presence and the young man gone over to Theodore as he awaited him. He asked questions about where Mike's from, the events that led up to Lena moving away, and the years. Very important that Mike tells him the correct dates and so forth, if he so much as confuses his dates, they risk paradoxes.
Theodore doesn't want to deal with paradoxes nor his big brother if he finds out what they're doing, very important that he doesn't, because Theodore's not interested in another speech from him this week. One's enough for his lifetime, the thousandth one's a torture.
"Now, see here, Mr. Jenkins, I must explain to you that I cannot change your entire life. Unfortunately, the only way the universe's willing to work, you only have one shot in fixing this. You can't fix all your mistakes, but you can fix the ones that ruined your friendship with Lena. However, there's conditions for this to work," Theodore turned towards Mike as he looked down to him. "You cannot just change events to suit your needs. You must learn, also. While you regret the decisions you made, now, you must learn not to make them again then, or else whatever choices you make in this time won't matter the slightest. Do not abuse nor squander the time I gave you to rectify the mistakes you made, understand me, Mr. Jenkins?"
His Glaswegian slipped out as he explained the rules to Mike. Once Theodore pulls the lever, it's on Mike to correct his mistakes and fix the timeline, however, he can't just simply avoid the drugs and alcohol and hope to succeed, no, he needed to learn from the mistakes he made in the original timeline. Theodore and Lila will monitor him from afar, someway form, making sure he doesn't do anything he shouldn't, and hopefully, if he does things correctly, he'll have a new timeline.
However.
Theodore made a point to tell Mike that he shouldn't get too far ahead of himself. Even if he rectified every slight and mistake he made, there's still a chance he'll never reconcile with Lena.
"But, if I stop being a git, she won't have to leave the village, right?" Mike pointed at Theodore. "If I help her get her art submitted, she won't be a businesswoman, anymore!"
Quietly nodding, Theodore told him that it all depended on what the universe's decides as balance and there's still a chance it stacks against Mike in some way. Maybe it'll keep the new timeline, but change something in the future that's even worse than what Mike's experiencing now.
However, it ends, Theodore informed Mike that he can't change it again, if he tries, the universe won't hesitate to backlash against him, and he doesn't want to see what a scorned universe does when someone plays around with something they shouldn't.
Theodore's not even supposed to meddle with events such as this, but as he did the preliminary work before deciding, it seemed that the universe doesn't see Mike or anyone from his village as important enough to warrant inherent backlash if something changes.
Still, it'll get cranky if Mike tries trying change his timeline multiple times like he's in a video game.
That said, Theodore looked at Mike as he asked, "Are you ready?"
Pulling on his green turtleneck, Mike replied, "I just want to be friends with her, again!"
Nodding, Theodore turned towards Lila as she instinctively held the railings while he turned back to Mike.
"Okay, Mr. Jenkins, let's hope you don't go down the same path twice. You'll be brought back three days before Lena leaves, from what you've told us, they'll be crucial to your chance at succeeding in a new timeline. Remember, Mr. Jenkins, we'll be watching you. Don't make me regret this, understand me?" Theodore eyes Mike.
Holding his chest, Mike swore sincerely that he won't do anything foolish and promises that he'll use the time that Theodore gave him to fix his mistakes and continue his friendship with Lena.
Nodding, Theodore let out a cackle as he exclaimed, "It's showtime!"
The TARDIS came alive and rattled, sending poor Mike to the ground as he scrambled to push himself up and grab the rails as he hunkered close to the ground.
Closing his eyes, Mike felt everything rattling underneath him as the TARDIS disappeared from its spot.
He doesn't know how long it's been, but he immediately opened his eyes when he heard something buzzing in his ear and turned his head to see his alarm clock sitting on the table blaring.
Pushing himself up from the bed, Mike blinked as he looked around the blurry room before reaching for his glasses, and when he put his glasses on, he winced.
"Doctor...? Lila...?" Mike called out to them.
They didn't answer.
Did he have one of those awful dreams from the poppers, again?
In his pants, Mike pushed himself off the bed as he grabbed his clothing and went into the loo and showered. Coming out wearing his usual clothes, a stitched beanie, hooded jacket, and all, Mike stops as he looks towards his desk where there's an envelope on his desk.
Going towards it, he reached for it and opened it, inside there's a letter, and he sees a handwritten note: YOU HAVE THREE DAYS LEFT!
Blinking, Mike sat it down as he rubbed his hazy eyes before he remembered that he's meeting friends today and while he's preparing to do so, he stopped when he sees the state of his room.
Something about it gave him a pit in his stomach and he felt a compulsion of cleaning it up, ridding the used wrappers and whatever else, cleaning the stains off the carpeting, cleaning the sheets, he must've cleaned his room in an hour before he realized the time.
When he stopped, Mike sees the bag of rubbish filled with drugs.
He just wanted to get rid of them, even though he used them last night, a strong urge, and he threw out the rubbish before heading out to meet with his friends.
They're of similar age and they're from similar background, he greeted them as they greeted back, and as he's chatting with them, he looked around as he noticed the absence of Lena.
"Where's Lena?" Mike asks them.
Gordon shrugged his heavy coat shoulders as he replied, "I dunno, mate, you know her, she's probably busied with ruining the fun for someone else. You still in for the party?"
Mike forgotten there's a party in two days.
Everyone's going to be there and Frankie's got everything needed to make a banger of a party, everything from hard liquor to a little bit of drugs he bought from a reliable source.
"Ah, I don't know," Mike shirked in his spot as Gordon looked at him funny.
Pointing his fat finger at him, Gordon inquired, "You begged me for the invitation, now you're getting second thoughts?"
In a peculiar spot, Mike weakly replied, "I-I don't know, you been to one party, you been all to them, you know?"
Gordon snorted as he looked towards Trevor and Leper, "You hearing this?"
Trevor eyed Mike with confusion as he pointed out, "But Mike, the popular girls are going to be there, even Wynona!"
Vaguely, Mike remembered his time with Wynona, what little, and he shook his head as he replied, "I don't think I'm down for it, guys."
He sees the look of confusion in his friends' eyes as they're unable to process what he's telling them, that he doesn't want to go to the biggest party in their village in their entire lives.
"What, did you get religion or something?" Leper pointed at him. "What's got into you, are you bugging out again?"
Shaking his head, Mike insisted that he's not bugging out, that he just doesn't want to go the party, and he sees the young men looking at each other with confusion on their faces while they're processing what he told them.
"Houston, we have a problem," Gordon groaned.
