"How could I kill him when I was with you in the kitchen?" Alfred protested the accusation that he killed Mr. Brody as Colonel Kraft insisted, he did the deed, despite him clearly incapable of doing it.
Theodore calmed them down as he mentioned that it's possible that Mr. Brody slipped into another manic episode, it's possible he used a fragment of the poison to give him time to escape and his manic state took over. Hit himself over the head with the wrench and that's that.
"Well, without forensics, we won't know, and we can't call anyone in this damned weather, anyhow!" Colonel Kraft huffed. "And we have two dead bodies here!"
Even with them covered up, it's not helping the morality of the guests.
Lila remembered something as she brought up, "Either I'm losing my mind or didn't you say you didn't intend for this to happen, say that again for the people in the back, please?"
Eying Alfred, she wanted answers regarding what he said earlier and she wasn't budging until he gave her the answer.
Frowning, Alfred said he knew how awful Mr. Brody is when he's in his peculiar moods, so he planned the dinner party in hopes it's enough for him to see the light, and receive proper help.
"You invited us to intervene, that's it?" Lila's dumbstruck about this whole thing. All this, planned, by the butler, just so his boss would take the hint and seek help.
Unfortunately, it didn't turn out very well because Mr. Brody slipped into another manic episode and decided to make a game out of this, resulting in the chaos that happened.
"I don't understand where I fall into this, though," Scarlet eyed Alfred as she pointed out that out of everyone, she wasn't the person that should've been invited to intervene.
Maybe if she gets the payment owed, but that's beside the point, it's not in her job description to do something like this!
Alfred thinly mentioned that Scarlet had troubles with Mr. Brody hurting her girls due to his mood swings and to keep her from bothering him, he paid her off.
Lapsed payment and she came to collect.
"How'd you know that?" Scarlet's baffled as Alfred seemingly told her what happened between her and Mr. Brody.
Mr. Brody used Scarlet's services, but not for what one expected, he emotionally tormented poor women who Scarlet inadvertently assigned to him with his mood swings that ranged from psychotic to demeaning.
"How come you didn't inform the police?" Colonel Kraft asked Scarlet why she didn't turn Mr. Brody into the authorities for his abusive behaviour to her workers only for her to remind him that her services aren't on the books.
Professor Rose mentioned that she wouldn't face charges on account her arrest would've implicated half the population. She wasn't in any threat of arrest herself and the authorities wouldn't wanted to deal with the headaches of angry housewives finding out their husbands visited Scarlet's ill repute.
"Even then, this man clearly was a threat, surely someone would've done something the moment they saw that, wouldn't they?" Colonel Kraft continued as he's baffled why no one turned Mr. Brody in for his abusive nature and his manic episodes that resulted in harm.
Speaking up, Lila asked if he ever saw anything that suggested Mr. Brody was a ticking time bomb, for which the colonel said that he was a dutiful soldier through and through. Never had any problems with him, until Lila pointed out that he didn't have contact with Mr. Brody the moment he received his injuries and ended up discharged from the military.
"Speaking of that, if you knew he was a threat, why didn't you do something, Professor?" Lila turned her attention towards Professor Rose as he's the former therapist of the murdered host and saw firsthand what person he became from his injuries.
Professor Rose said he couldn't say anything about his former patient due to the laws that prevented him from doing so, only for Lila to remind him his charge's dead and if they don't do something within the next hour and a half, he'll be dead, too.
"I don't think your oath covers you being targeted, professor," Lila stamped out his attempt at concealing information. He's in just as much trouble as the rest of them are and nobody with a brain's going to fault him for mentioning his patient's private records under duress.
Chewing on his pipe as he tasted the faint tobacco still resting in the chamber, Professor Rose admitted that he showed concerns over Mr. Brody since he became a patient of his. The mood whiplashes he fell into, the manic episodes, everything, he wanted to inform the proper authorities, but due to something personal, he couldn't without risking his license.
He would've mentioned more but Scarlet grew agitated and said for them to hurry up and do something, they don't have much time left, and they need to find the antidote!
Seeing her point, Alfred suggested they break off into pairs and search the rooms for any clues regarding the antidote.
If anything happened to the other half of the pair, they'll know the culprit easily, and everyone adamantly agreed with his plan as they discussed amongst themselves who'll pair up.
As they talked, Professor Rose remembered the weapons and asked what they'll do about them since if someone used the colonel's wrench, they'll surely use the others.
Also seeing his point, Alfred hurried as he grabbed all the weapons from the table, hurried towards the cabinets nearby, opened one, and shoved all the weapons inside he's able, before locking it tightly with a key.
The moment he turned around, he sees everyone looking at him while he held the key, and he asked what they're looking at, only for Colonel Kraft to point out that he has the key.
Insinuating that he's possibly involved in this somehow, the colonel insisted the butler rid himself of the key, so no one has a chance of getting into the weapons.
Further insinuating someone among them's the killer and Alfred nodded before he went with them following him towards the front door as he hesitated.
Theodore saw this instantly and asked what's wrong, only for the butler to tell him that he's sure that Mr. Brody electrified the doors, there's fear in his voice, and the giant walked ahead of them to test the theory.
Reaching out, Theodore grabbed the handle, and slowly turned it while the others look on, holding their breaths.
Cautiously, Theodore turned the handle and the door gave, he slowly opened it towards him with a sigh of relief as he only sees a torrential downpour outside.
Alfred looked baffled as he stood near the doorway, peering outside.
He shared a collective look with the others while they're trying to process what happened and Colonel Kraft motioned that if the door's not electrified, they should just leave while they're still alive.
Moving to the side, Alfred and Theodore sees Colonel Kraft going through the doorway only to shout in pain as he fumbled backwards with agonizing pains shooting up his legs.
Lila, Professor Rose, and even Scarlet bent down as they tended to the colonel while Theodore and Alfred looked where he stepped.
The door wasn't electrified, but the area in the doorframe and the outside steps were, leaving them stunned.
"I told you," Alfred looked at them.
Gasping as he's held up by the three, Colonel Kraft wheezingly asked about the windows, then, only for Alfred to tell him that Mr. Brody thinks of everything.
They're trapped in the mansion until they find the antidote or die trying, he feared.
"Well, the electricity's powered somewhere, isn't it, if we find it and turn it off, we can get out of here," Lila raised a finger as she suggested that there's still a chance, but Alfred doubted it, worrying that Mr. Brody might've booby trapped it, given their luck as of recent.
Stuck, Alfred wondered what they'll do now, and Theodore said they follow the original plan, split up and find the antidote or something they can use to contact the outside world.
While true Theodore's physic gave him an edge over ordinary humans, the rain plus the coursing electricity running through the area outside, he would've been dead before he got to the edge of the property. Maybe he'll live longer, but he's not immune to electrocution.
"Stay away from the windows and back doors, me and Lila's taking the basement, everyone else look for the antidote," Theodore gave them orders as they looked weary.
Scarlet asked what'll happen if someone finds the antidote, Theodore tells her they'll discuss what to do with it, because there's a chance Mr. Brody's up to something, and if electrifying the outside said anything, he might've not kept his end of the bargain.
Lila asked what he expects to find in the basement and Theodore told her that he's not sure, but he hedged a guess that it's booby trapped and they'll have their work cutout for them.
"What about the key?" Scarlet brought up that Alfred hasn't done anything with it and he reminded her that Colonel Kraft almost died from electrocution.
Alfred inquired what she expected him to do with it and she told him that he had to get rid of it or else they're at risk.
"Well, what'd you expect me to do, toss it like I'm some American footballer?" Alfred eyed Scarlet. He then realized Lila and apologized for the jab, but she waved it away as she told him that there's no offense taken.
Scarlet pressed and Alfred finally carefully opened the door enough he can see a stream of water in front of him.
Retracting his arm backwards, Alfred threw the key as far as he's able, and Theodore closed the door.
The key tossed; the guests broke off into small groups. Hannah went with Professor Rose and Alfred since there's no other person to pair her off with and they went off into different directions.
They're not to leave each other's side and they'll recoup in the study. Should one group find the antidote, they're to tell the others immediately.
There's nothing to gain trying to keep it for themselves and even if they tried, they'll likely hurt each other over it, and Theodore made it clear they couldn't lie about it.
If they do, they'll have more than to worry about than Lila clawing out their eyes.
Lila went with Theodore towards the basement, he took the lead as Lila followed him. Hands in his stitched pockets, Theodore located the door to the basement, and opened it, he went down a couple of steps as a test, before allowing Lila to follow him down.
At the bottom of the steps, Theodore turned on the light in the basement, it smelled like any basement did. The scent of insulation in the walls, the mildew, dust, and cobwebs everywhere.
Mum would've made every soul clean this basement had she seen the state of it and have an itinerary of everything in the basement in her hand by dinner.
"What do you think's down here?" Lila asks Theodore as she came to the bottom of the staircase as he stepped forward, his icy blue eyes glistening under the light while surveying the basement.
Years of dust, only cleaned once every blue moon since hardly anyone comes down here, and if they do it's brief enough that cleaning's bare minimal.
There's crates and boxes, aged differently by the temperament of the basement, and Theodore cautiously went around the stacked crates, checking for any traps Mr. Brody might've set.
Tip toeing, Theodore checked the corner and sees at the end of the maze of crates and boxes, a fuse box.
He didn't know where it connected and if it mattered, but the way it looks clear and easy to get to, almost suspicious for him, while he stood near the stack of crates.
"I don't like this," Lila shared the same thoughts as him as they looked at the fuse box at the end, seemingly unobstructed, and there doesn't seem to be any traps.
Neither wanted to go near it, but it's making them curious.
"I'll go," Theodore told Lila as he tugged on his stitched jacket.
If anything happens, he'll have a better shot at surviving it, and Lila's able to grab him if needed.
Slowly nodding her head as her dark brunette hair bobbed, Lila watched as Theodore slowly moved his way towards the fuse box to check where it connected.
He doubted it's connected to the electrified outside, but it's a start.
Lila looking on, he slowly walked through the aisle of boxes and crates towards the fuse box, not knowing what sort of traps Mr. Brody might've placed before his untimely death.
Theodore doesn't know what he'll do, they only have an hour left before someone starts showing symptoms of poison, and they haven't begun figuring out what type of poison Mr. Brody used.
He doesn't know what'll happen once this' all said and done, but he knows for a fact that he's planning on locating the Doctor who met Mr. Brody. Not for a cup of tea, he might add.
The only audible sounds are coming from his chest, two heartbeats echoed in his chest cavity as Theodore came up to the fuse box.
Wasn't locked, easily undone with the latch, and when he pulled it open, Theodore sees the fuses, the heavily yellowed mapping stuck to the inside of the door.
"Is it safe?" Lila called out to him.
Looking around, tapping his shiny loafers against the ground, Theodore concluded it's safe, and Lila came over to him.
The fuse box wasn't connected to the electrified outside, not the main area, a different breaker.
Exhaling, Theodore turned his back to look at Lila.
"What now?" Lila asks him.
Frowning, Theodore walked past her as he said he doesn't know, but he doubted there's an antidote in the basement.
About to follow him, Lila heard a thunderous clash above them, and felt a stinging sensation in her back as electricity pulsed out of the fuse box.
Whipping around, Theodore grabs her and clung to her, his back towards it while he felt the electricity.
It only lasted a few seconds, but his already messy hair added a few extra curls from the incident.
The basement plunged into darkness and there's no other light.
In the darkness, the two unable to find anything.
"Are you alright?" Theodore immediately asked Lila.
Coughing, Lila said she's fine, just jolted.
Doesn't help their problem, though, and Lila wearily asked if Theodore inherited night vision.
He didn't and that's fictitious.
Time Lords don't have that and he doesn't know who keeps suggesting that. It's not helping him at all when people think he's able to hold his breath longer than an olympic swimmer any time he's dunked into a creek by witch hunters.
It's already bad enough he has to keep a ruse going, it worse when people come up with exaggerations that he can't possibly keep up with without dying or turning blue.
He's got large lungs but he can't hold his breath indefinitely, he's not a fish.
Thankfully, the conundrum concluded when the light in the basement turned on and the two shared a look with each other before they headed back upstairs.
As they did, they're greeted with everyone except Hannah. When asked what happened, Professor Rose and Alfred said they didn't know. She disappeared when the power went out.
Looking towards Theodore, Lila sees him concentrating on the two men before subtly nodding to her, telling her they told the truth.
Theodore and the others searched for Hannah throughout the mansion until they peaked into the billiard room.
Lying on the billiard with a rope tied around her neck, it's Hannah, her eyes frozen and her lips blue.
"Three murders," Alfred mused. "This is serious!"
