Chapter 8

Author's Note : Thank you for the support my readers.

Do what you want

But i'm drinking.

Rather live my life in regret.

We both changed.

Days Later

Brooke finally started to feel settled to life in Tree Hill. Her belongings out of boxes and put away. Her designs were making money. After she purchased a cellphone and took pictures of her clothes then uploaded the images online.

She was currently selling her designs out of her home. People around town put in orders and she filled them.

Lastly she was gaining a friend group. Which was her favorite aspect of this life so far. First Lucas. Which in itself was a welcomed surprise.

Then Haley and her girlfriends. Brooke had to admit. At first she didn't know what to think of Haley.

Their first meeting had left Brooke's head spinning. But today she had invited Brooke out to lunch with her and her closest girlfriends.

The impending outing made Brooke more nervous then she would let on. She wasn't someone who made friends with women easily or at all.

Brooke knocked on the front door to the home. To her surprise.

Haley opened it right away with a bright smile.

"Welcome to my home. Make yourself comfortable. Join us in the kitchen or the backyard patio. We have a pool. Hopefully you came here hungry. I always make enough so i have leftovers for the rest of the week."

"Guess that's me being a mom of multiple kids kicking in. Jamie Lydia. And Ethan. They are 10. They are best friends with Nixon and Lilly."

"I'm not sure if you've met Lucas yet. They are his kids. Follow me." Haley said.

Brooke felt herself blush at the mention of Lucas's name. She wasn't sure what that meant and wasn't ready to confront it. So she simply smiled and followed Haley into the kitchen.

"At last we meet Tree Hill's newest houseguest. I'm Peyton Sawyer Jagielski. I run red bedroom records. And my husband stays at home with our kids." She proclaimed.

"I'm Rachel married or a mother. Im a model. My guy is a sports reporter. But i've been with my long time boyfriend since high school. Unlike these two. I don't believe in marriage and Marvin and I haven't fully decided on the whole kid thing." She revealed.

Brooke took in these women's life story's and realized just how lacking her life was compared to them. She knew she wasn't in competition but she had lived a life so separate from them and yet she had nothing of substance to show for it.

The women ate. Talked. And gossip.

Brooke found herself longing for this kind of friendship. Strong. Steady. Safe.

"What exactly brings you to Tree Hill.?" Haley asked. While the other women focused their gaze on Brooke.

"Nothing special. I just needed a fresh start. A new environment." Brooke replied. Turning her attention to the food on her plate.

...

Awhile Later

The smile on Brooke's face was practically giddy when she got a call from Lucas. Inviting her over for dinner tonight with him and the children.

She accepted instantly. Requesting she bring nothing but herself.

But Brooke wanted to bring him and the kids a gift.

Which is why she prolonged the conversation with Lucas. Trying to figure out what he liked and what they liked.

...

Hours Later

The Scott Home

At the echo of multiple knocks. Lilly raced towards the door.

"I'll get it.!" She announced.

"No i will!" Nixon added in.

"I'm the adult here. I will answer the door." Lucas announced. As he entered the room.

He unlocked and opened the door.

Brooke smiled up at him.

He smiled back. Surprised that she had bags in her hands.

He insisted she bring nothing. But this was nice. He wouldn't question her about it.

"Welcome. Thank you for joining us." Lucas said.

"Thank you for inviting me. I was going to order take out. This is so much better. A home cooked meal. I don't cook so. When i have a chance to enjoy good company and even better food i take it." Brooke replied.

"I'm Brooke Davis. The two of you are the most important person in you're dad's life. I hope you're okay with me getting to know the two of you. A little better."

"For you Nixon i bought. A signed Steven King book. You're a reader a big fan." Brooke announced.

Handing over the signed copy of the novel.

Nixon shyly thanked her. Placed the book down. And gave her a hug.

Brooke hugged him back. Taken aback by his warmth and openness.

"You're welcome kiddo." Brooke replied. When they pulled apart. She leaned over ruffling his blond curly hair.

"Now you Lilly. A girl after my own heart."

"Fashion is you're biggest love. As a fashion designer myself."

"I fully understand. I made you an outfit. Something colorful. Easy to move around in. You could wear it to school or when you're going out. Let me know if you like it." Brooke said. Handing Lilly the other bag.

Lilly opened the bag and took out the outfit.

It was purple. Black. And pink. The fabric was soft and breathable.

Lilly clutched the outfit tightly.

"I love it.! Thank you!" Lilly exclaimed. As she carefully placed down the outfit back into the bag before rushing over to hug Brooke.

Brooke hugged her back. Feeling her melt.

What was happening.? Something inside her was changing.

"You and Nix go on into the kitchen. Make sure everything that should be on the dining room table is there." Lucas announced.

"Brooke is sitting to me!" Lilly announced.

"No she's sitting next to me! Nixon replied. As they ran towards the kitchen door.

Lucas smiled warmly. "You didn't have to do that. You coming here is more then enough." He stated.

"I know but i wanted too. It's a small gesture really. Being able to spend time with you and those adorable kids is alot more meaningful. I hope you didn't go to alot of trouble including me tonight." Brooke replied.

"Not at all. Plus i welcome you're company. I haven't seen Lilly or Nixon react to someone new in my life like this before."

"That in itself tells me you're worth opening up and sharing with." Lucas said.

"There you go again. Making me feel the way no man ever has."

"You look at me. Not through me."

"I like you Lucas." Brooke announced.

"I like you too Brooke." Lucas replied. Taking her hand in his. As they walked towards the kitchen.
