Chapter 13

Author's Note : Thank you my readers for the support. Had to get this out for all of you. Happy holidays.

Days Later

Can we pretend that airplanes

In the night sky are shooting stars.?

I could really use a wish right now.

Peyton shut the door to the kitchen. She then walked over to the dining room table.

"Girl talk and brunch. Jake is gonna be downstairs. Homeschooling the kids. Which will go on for some time."

"So you have my full attention for as long as you need it." Peyton announced.

Brooke smiled shyly. "I appreciate you inviting me over."

"I would of just called but i kind of needed to get out of the house."

"I'm gonna lay it all out there. I'm here to talk about Lucas."

"Which you already know. Because you suggested i reach out. I did what you suggested. I stayed back and I spent time with Lilly and Nixon. Which was better then i thought it would be."

"Given how my mother is lacking in maternal instinct. I was sure that would pass down to me. But i'm beginning to think. Maybe i was too hard on myself. I enjoy every second i get to spend with them." Brooke explained.

"Well how did things go with Lucas.?" Peyton questioned.

Brooke took a breath. "We ended up going back and forth saying alot. He wants us to just be friends. Act like the kiss never happened."

"He says i confused the dynamic between us and us being friends is the way it has to be."

"While i shot back that he was hiding and using the routine of his life as a shield to avoid going after what he wanted."

"It was alot." Brooke revealed. Pausing as she focused on the food in front of her.

She started to eat and Peyton looked to her.

"The two of you got into a fight. It happens."

"But from what you're telling me. Maybe all that was said needed to be openly expressed."

"I think what matters is the two of you were honest with each other. That means something."

"I'm here to talk whenever you need it. Whatever you say. Stays between us." Peyton clarified.

"The same goes for me. Thanks Peyton. For caring enough to want to make yourself available as a sounding board." Brooke replied.

"What are friends for." Peyton said.

...

"Everyone is going to be at the cafe for thanksgiving." Nixon announced. Checking off the names off the list.

"Only people that are invited can join. There is limited seating. And we have the needed plates/ utensils all set aside."

"The two of you can go to bed. An hour or two later. I don't want either of wasting a day of this break just sleeping in. This is you're chance to make the most out of you're free time." Lucas explained.

"Why isn't Brooke on the list.?" Nixon asked.

"And when is she going to come by and visit and why haven't we gone over to her house to visit.? It's the holidays. She shouldn't be alone. She's new in town daddy." Lilly insisted.

"Brooke is an adult. She doesn't need anyone planning her life out."

"She'll be fine. The two of you don't need to spend time worrying about her. Go on and be kids. Have fun. Breakfast is over." Lucas insisted.

"Can you take us to the park.?" Lilly asked.

"Sure thing. Lilly pad." Lucas replied.

...

Tree Hill Children's Hour Park

While Nixon sat on a bench and drew with his sketch pad and newly brought colored pencils.

Lilly took notice of her aunt Haley and uncle Nathan. Jamie and Lydia were there playing.

Which gave her the chance to leave the park. She made her way across the street and walked straight over to the house she had been looking for.

She knocked on the front door. And smiled.

Brooke stared back at the young girl with a surprised expression.

"Lilly. How did you get here.? Does you're dad know you're here.?" Brooke asked.

"Nixon and I got dropped off at the park by him. He's working at the cafe. And when we're ready to come home one of us needs to call him using our cellphone he got us for our birthday." Lilla explained.

"Alright. What exactly are you doing here at my house.?" Brooke questioned.

"I just saw you're house and you're car in the driveway."

"Nixon and I want to know what we did. Why you don't like us anymore.?" Lilly asked.

Brooke felt her heart drop. "Lilly i need you to really listen to me."

"Me keeping my distance from you and Nixon isn't either of you're faults. How about the three of us have a movie night.? I know the both of you are on break with school." Brooke suggested.

"That would be the best. We've missed you." Lilly confessed.

"I've missed the two of you too."

"Now let me give you a ride back to the park." Brooke replied.

"For years now. My dad host thanksgiving dinner at the cafe."

"You should come by. The food is so good. And the dessert is even better. Here an official invitation. It starts at 6." Lilly announced. Handing over the piece of paper.

"This is very sweet of you. I'll think about it."

"Now let's get you back to the park before anyone notices you left." Brooke insisted.

...

Hours Later

Karen's Cafe

Orange. Yellow. And brown decor covers the walls. The aroma of main/ Side dishes. And desserts fills the entire resturant.

Lucas looks out at all the familiar faces. And felt thankful for everyone seated there. They were his family.

When he heard the front door opening.

He watched as Brooke entered the cafe.

Lucas walked over to her.

Brooke locked eyes with him.

"You shouldn't be here." Lucas said.

"I was invited to attend by Lilly. If you want me to leave i will." Brooke insisted.

"Stay. But that doesn't change anything between us." Lucas proclaimed.

"Friends fight. Can't we just get over this and go back to being what we were.?" Brooke asked.

"We are two people who see and experience the world in ways that don't line up together." Lucas replied.

"Sit next to us Brooke." Noah said. Extending his hand to her.
