Fishbowl Diaries

Chapter 16

Author's Note : Thamk you my readers. This is my favorite chapter so far.

"Truth is still absolute. Believe that. Even when that truth is hard and cold, and more painful than you've ever imagined. And even when truth is more cruel than any lie."

When Lucas found me it was 10 am. I was just about to leave my home and get to the store to open it for the day.

It was raining. The look on his face was one i hadn't seen before. But given our last encounter. I didn't have time for the push and pull.

"What's going on Lucas.?" I asked.

"Can we talk.? I need to be honest with you Brooke. Please." Lucas pleaded. The emotion in his voice thick.

Brooke sighed deeply. Letting him inside the home. She closed and locked the door after him.

"What do you have to say to me that can't wait.?" She asked. Unsure where this was headed.

Lucas took a deep breath and looked to her.

"I told you about me getting custody of Lilly. But what you don't you. Is that my mom and Keith were targetted by my father. He couldn't stand it. That they were going to be married. That they were going to be building a family together."

"He never wanted me in his life as a son."

"He took them away from me. Lilly never got to know them." Lucas said. His voice breaking with emotion as he continued.

"I killed him. When the investigation was over and it was revealed that this was no accident. I knew who did it. I confronted him and he didn't deny it."

"I set his car dealership on fire with him inside. They haven't been able to figure it who did it yet. But the case is still open."

"I know it was wrong. And i regret it. Acting on pure emotion."

"One day the truth about what i did will come to light. And i've made peace with that."

"I take days hours at a time. I treasure all of it. Because someday. I'll lose it and have to pay for the crime i commited."

Brooke wanted to reach out to him. And she did.

She took his hand in hers. And Lucas didn't pull away.

Instead he engulfed her in a hug.

For the first time since she met him he seemed lighter somehow.

When they eventually pulled apart. She locked eyes with him.

"This changes nothing about how i feel for you. We can face this together. Life and whatever comes our way." Brooke proclaimed.

"There's one more thing. Nixon isn't my son biologically. Sasha. My first love. His mom. We were both dealing with our own issues when we got together. When she got pregnant. It changed everything. But when she died i had no to know the truth for my own peace of mind."

"Finding out i'm not his biological father changed nothing about how much i love him. He's my son. I'm the only dad he's ever known. And i know without a doubt in my mind. The bio father isn't someone worth mentioning which is why she never told me."

"We came from messed up family dynamics."

"Now you know everything." Lucas confirmed.

"I love you." He admitted. Wanting there to be nothing but clarity between them from now on.

"I love you too." Brooke replied.

This time no one was running away.
