Ultraman Gallant

Chapter 2: The Strength to Protect

A city on fire, the sounds of explosions everywhere as two beings fought in the dark of the night, the only light shining on them was the fire and spotlights of aircrafts circling around them. The two beings fought, crashing into buildings as both tried to defeat the other. Within one of these buildings was a young girl, no more than 8 years old. She was crying as the explosions continued and she cried out for her father who had told her to stay put and he'd rescue her later.

It wasn't just her father she cried out for, she cried out for Ultraman, the giant of light who had been saving the city for months. Suddenly everything stopped and the young girl looked up from her crying position. Was it over? Did they win? The building shook and a large cloud of smoke came toward her as she found a giant hole in the building, and from outside a large monster looked at her. It's eyes glowing red and its sharp teeth displayed at her.

She closed her eyes, fearing the worst until she heard a loud cry and the sound of something falling to the ground. Opting to open her eyes again she became face to face with something else, something that terrified her more than the monster, two yellow eyes, two very alien eyes staring at her. The eyes of Ultraman.

Present Day

Reika Aikawa yawned as she entered through the front doors to the JSDF headquarters, scanning her badge to go further into the building. She hadn't gotten the greatest sleep the night before, plagued by nightmares of memories from 15 years ago. That was the day she had learned that Ultraman wasn't a hero at all, he was just another alien out to destroy the earth. Now he was back, albeit different and according to the captain it wasn't the same one.

That didn't matter to her though, they were all the same, every alien. As she got into the elevator to the command center she was greeted by the smiling face of her coworker, "Good morning Asuna." Asuna smiled and held up a bag under her arm, "Reika! Good morning, I hope you're hungry cause I had time to stop at the bakery before I came in today." Reika nodded, "I didn't get much sleep last night so I kind of forgot about breakfast, so some bread sounds good right now. Do you know who was on night duty last night?"

Asuna nodded, "It was Takato, I wonder how it went since he seemed so excited for his first time on night duty." Reika frowned, it wasn't that she hated the new guy, he was just weird. After a week of him being a part of the JSDF and running him through the standard tests she had concluded that he clearly wasn't normal. At times she wasn't even sure if he was from the planet, he lacked a lot of common sense about pretty much everything and she was convinced he might be an alien, but according to Captain Kakuhiro he passed all the medical examinations.

Asuna giggled at Reika's face, "You said you wanted more help and we got it but yet you don't seem to like him." Reika shook her head, "It's not that I don't like him, he's just strange and I don't exactly plan on befriending him." Asuna shrugged, "He's quirky and I like him, besides he's easy to have a conversation with so that's been great for me." Reika rolled her eyes as they reached their destination, both walking in to find the command center spotless, almost shiny even as everything was neat and properly put in place. Behind them Captain Kakuhiro and Tsubasa walked in as the young pilot smiled at them, "Good morning ladies…. Ok what happened here?" Captain Kakuhiro chuckled to himself as he looked around the room, "It appears that the room was cleaned, something you forget to do at times."

Tsubasa scowled and looked around, "But who cleaned it?" At the sound of his question, the newest member of the JSDF almost sprung from behind a desk smiling at them, "Good morning! I got a little bored last night so I decided to clean this place, it was nowhere as clean as it should be for a place of military operation." Reika frowned, "So instead of doing your job monitoring the city you cleaned instead?" Takato frowned at her questioning, "Oh well you know, where I come from we're told we need to make the place we work at as clean as possible and I was just so excited that I wanted to make a good impression for when you all came in this morning." The Captain smiled as he went and sat down at his desk, "Well I see nothing wrong with that, excellent job Takato and thank you, none of the rest of your comrades were going to take time to clean."

Takato saluted, "Thank you sir!" Asuna giggled at him as the other two members of the JSDF grumbled in annoyance at the rookies over excitement and went to sit down. Asuna walked over to him and presented something to him, "Here I stopped by the bakery before I came over today, you can have the first treat." Takato took the roll from her and looked confused, "What's this?" Asuna smiled, "It's a roll filled with peanut butter in it, it's one of the best things they have at my local bakery." Takato nodded, "Thank you." He took a bite and his eyes lit up, "Wow this is really good!" Asuna nodded in agreement before going to place something over at Captain Kakuhiro's desk, "Here ya go Captain I grabbed something special for you."

Captain Kakuhiro smiled and took the pastry, "Asuna you know I try to watch what I eat but I suppose one pastry won't hurt, thank you very much." As Asuna went about giving the other two some treats, Takato finished his roll and smiled, "Wow that was so good, Asuna you need to show me whatever a bakery is." Reika rolled her eyes at his comment, he didn't even know what a bakery was, "Oi rookie where are you from that you don't even know what a bakery is?"

Takato looked at her confused, "Rookie? If you're talking to me I'm from a really small village we didn't have any of this stuff." Reika frowned, "Clearly, Captain now that the rookie is done with basic training who's gonna be training him on the more advanced stuff?" Captain Kakuhiro scratched his chin, "Hmmm I was going to have Tsubasa do it, but… Reika you're going to be showing Takato the ropes." Reika groaned, "Ugh fine, come on rookie I'm not going easy on you." Takato wasn't sure what was happening as Reika began to drag him by the shoulder out of the room as Asuna waved to him, "Good luck!" With Reika training him he was certainly going to need it.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Meanwhile across town the same man who had summoned Gamora screamed in frustration. He punched a wall of the building he was within, resulting in a hole in it as he screamed in rage, "ANOTHER ULTRAMAN!" As he punched the wall again he began to breath fast before slowing his breathing down, "No no, there's no reason to lose your composure over this. You knew that he existed, that fool Omega mentioned him."

He smiled as he began to pace around, "Yes, Yes, I can use this to my advantage for more fun. It would've been too easy if something didn't try to stop my chaos. Yesssssssssss for now I'll let him get stronger, so it can be a better fight when I finally move in for the kill." He began to laugh maniacally, he'd let Gallant play his time as hero and when he was finally ready he'd destroy the young Ultra and the earth along with him.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Thousands of Years Ago

A young Gallant landed on the ground hard as a bird like kaiju lunged at him, knocking him into the rocky terrain of the planet he was on. As he struggled to get up a group of small red aliens appeared besides him making animalistic noises at him. He kicked the kaiju away as he motioned for the aliens to run, "You Pigmon's need to get out of here, don't worry I'll defeat it." The group of Pigmon's nodded and began to scamper off as the kaiju came for another attack, Gallant trying his best to dodge its talons again.

He had arrived at this planet after seeing the kaiju attacking them, he had heard from stories that Pigmon was one of the friendliest aliens in the galaxy, though unfortunately they didn't have luck when it came to kaiju attacks. He groaned as the monster knocked him down again, his color timer beginning to flash. This was it, he was going to die here, he never should've left the land of light. As the bird kaiju closed in to finish him off he heard a cry from above, "OMEGIUM BEAM!"

A white, orange and blue beam appeared from above, killing the bird kaiju in one shot as Gallant struggled to stand up. He looked up to see another Ultra floating above him, he had a primarily silver body with a few black markings around his waist and arms, one of his hands was orange and the other blue, with some kind of metal on them. He appeared to have one horn on his head and armor around his chest, protecting his color timer. Gallant watched as the Ultra floated down to him, "I don't mean to be rude but who are you sir?" The Ultra looked at him with clear blue eyes, "I am Ultraman Omega, I was patrolling around here and saw your battle, it's a little strange finding a young Ultra like yourself so far from the land of light."

Gallant nodded, "I left the land of light, I wasn't strong enough to be accepted into the defense force so I wanted to explore the galaxy to find the strength to join so I won't feel useless anymore." Omega nodded, "Tell me young one, why do you search for strength?" Gallant looked to see his new Pigmon friends coming back and pointed to them, "Because I want the strength to be a hero and protect all life within the galaxy, just like Ultraman." Omega laughed at his response, "Well let me tell you something, I've known Ultraman since we were kids and he wasn't always as strong as he is now as one of the Ultra brothers, he trained hard to find the strength to protect others."

Gallant nodded, "Then that means I have to keep training until I find the strength then." Omega looked as he saw the Pigmon crowding around the young warrior, seemingly thanking him for his efforts, "They seem grateful for what you did, what is your name?" Gallant looked down at them and bent down to meet them, "They should be thanking you not me, and I'm Gallant, Ultraman Gallant."

Omega chuckled and placed a hand on his shoulder as he stood up, "Well then Gallant, I can see the strength in you already, how would you like to become my pupil?" Gallant nodded quickly becoming excited, "Of course sir! But I have to ask, who are you? I've never heard of you in the land of light." Omega simply laughed, his new pupil had no idea of the world he had just entered.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Present Day

Reika had dragged him all the way to the training room, it was a simple shooting range. There were several targets that were alien in nature, a few that were larger than the others. Fixing his uniform Takato frowned at his annoyed instructor, "Did you have to drag me all the way here? I would've just followed you willingly." Reika rolled her eyes at the comment, "I want to get this over with rookie, I won't have time to babysit you in the field." Takato nodded, he was halfway sure she did care about his well being, in her own sort of way, "Ok so what's first?"

Walking over to the nearby table, she picked up one of the weapons from it examining it, "The tests they had you do this week were all physical, mostly running and stuff so they obviously never ran through weapon drills with you." She threw him the weapon, it was mostly white with yellow on top and seemed to be some kind of laser blaster you'd see in movies. He caught with ease as she pointed him to the range, "The thing you're holding has an official name but we prefer to just call it the stinger, it has two modes stun for aliens in the field we need to capture, and eliminate, for the kaiju that show up. Try shooting it, aim for the aliens in stun mode first."

Eying the weapon Takato nodded and approached where she pointed, he wasn't a fan of weapons like this, it went against his more peaceful nature, but as long as he was only stunning other aliens it was fine. Takato smiled slightly and walked over, taking aim, "Well it doesn't sound too hard." He aimed and pulled the trigger, and while a yellow blast did come from it, Takato was met with an unexpected result. He felt a sudden kickback and suddenly went flying back, his shot heading towards the ceiling and he found himself on the floor, gazing up at a frowning Reika. He sat up and rubbed the back of his head, "What just happened?"

Reika sighed and shook her head, "Clearly this is gonna be harder than I thought, you didn't test if the gun was calibrated to your strength, all the stingers are specifically tailored for us, if you don't calibrate it then that'll happen or worse." Takato stood up and looked at the stinger, sure enough there was a button that indicated it needed to be calibrated. He pushed it and frowned at his trainor, "Well you could've told me about that." Reika glared at him, "I told you I can't babysit you, you should've examined it closer, you were too busy daydreaming. At least your aim isn't that pitiful, you probably would've gotten a bullseye if you didn't go flying." Takato raised an eyebrow, "How do you know?"

Reika rolled her eyes again, "It's my job to know where a shot would land, it's a good thing you won't need any aim if we're shooting giant Kaiju." Takato nodded slowly, "I'm not sure why we'd need to be shooting a giant kaiju anyway, isn't that what Ultraman is for?" Reika shot him a look that he swore was one of her trying to set him on fire with her mind.

She walked closely up to him with venom in her voice, "Humanity doesn't need Ultraman, so I suggest if you want to get through this training you learn that real quick." Takato nodded slowly, if he was going to learn anything today as they went back to training, it was that not to bring up his alter ego in front of his teammate.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Takato was now sure his new teammate was trying to kill him. It wasn't already enough she didn't like him for being unacquainted with being a human, he had learned she seemed to have a hatred for Ultraman, his alter ego. She had put him through serious training, it was so rigorous that even an Ultra like himself was getting tired from it. He was seriously starting to wish the captain hadn't recruited him into the JSDF. For the final test she had taken him out on patrol, and everything had gone well at first. Until they had spotted an Alien Dada, so they had to go catch it. Unfortunately for him she had told him to run after it on his own.

As he ran after it, shooting at it with the stinger, it managed to avoid every shot. Putting a finger to his ear he tried contacting her, "Reika I could really use some help here please, it's outrunning me." He heard a sigh from the other end of the communication and then nothing. Figuring she wasn't going to help him Takato continued to run after it, trying his best to avoid bystanders until suddenly the JSDF car appeared in front of him, causing him to run into and fall face forward onto the ground.

The Dada continued to run as she got out of the vehicle, "That was a pitiful performance rookie, honestly all I've seen from you today is how weak you are." Takato sighed and stood up, dusting off his uniform, "Isn't the JSDF supposed to be about teamwork, if you'd just helped me we could've captured the Dada." Reika rolled her eyes, "I was testing your strength, teamwork is great but when you're along you need to be strong enough to handle those things by yourself." She glared at him as she walked up to him, "How do you intend to protect Japan if you have no strength?" Takato frowned, "I have strength you just aren't giving me a chance."

Reika shook her head in disbelief, "I've given you chances today rookie, all I've seen is weakness and constant talk about how we should rely on Ultraman for everything. Honestly you should just quit, you'll be useless to all of us." For the first time since he'd been on earth Takato felt anger, he wasn't useless, he'd been trying to prove as such for his thousands of years of life. He wasn't a weakling and he wasn't going to let his stuck up teammate tell him otherwise, "What's wrong with being willing to let Ultraman help us in battle?"

Reika said nothing, he saw the look in her eyes though. One of terror mixed with sadness, whatever her problem with Ultraman was, it wasn't out of hatred, it was from fear. She got back into the car and started it, driving off without a word, whatever her issue was, he wasn't going to find out about it from her. There was only one other option, talking to the rest of his teammates.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

1000 Years Ago

Gallant launched himself at Omega, punching at him several times as the older Ultra side stepped every punch, simply nodding in approval as Gallant continued to attack him, "Good Gallant, you almost managed to hit me, you've improved so much over the years." Gallant said nothing as he aimed a kick at his mentor's waist, Omega blocking it with his own kick and chuckling to himself, "You've gotten faster, I'm so proud of my star pupil." Gallant let out a breath, he wasn't getting anywhere, he wasn't getting stronger no matter what his master insisted, "JUSTIUM DRAGOON!"

He fired his beam at his mentor, who moved his arms into an X position, "OMEGA BARRIER!" An orange barrier appeared from his arms, blocking the beam as Gallant fell to the ground exhausted. Omega walked over to him and offered him his hand, "Alright that's enough, we've been training for hours and you're at your limit." Gallant allowed himself to be pulled up by his master and shook his head, "Master Omega I can still fight, please I feel like I haven't gotten any stronger."

Omega grunted in response as they both noticed a shimmering cape flying into view, "How goes training the young knight of loyalty Omega?" Both Ultra's bowed as Ultraman King landed in front of them, King chuckled in amusement as he signaled for both of them to rise. Omega laughed at King's question, "Oh you wouldn't believe it, my star pupil's gotten so strong, I'm just so proud of the progress he's made, even Ultraman Zero would be in awe of him." King looked at Gallant who was trying to hold back his master's claims about him, "Is that so? Well good job then young Gallant, it's excellent news to hear how your training is going."

Gallant shook his head, "No, no I haven't gotten any stronger, Master Omega just likes to brag about me." Ultraman King nodded, "My so modest, well I'm sure if you keep up your training you'll make a fine knight." After a few more minutes of Omega bragging about his beloved student, King excused himself and flew off to other business, leaving the two Ultra's alone. Omega put an arm around Gallant and shook him lightly, "Why do you look so down my young student? That was high praise from the King himself."

Gallant sighed, "Master Omega why did you decide to train me? I feel like I haven't improved at all since we've begun." Omega folded his arms and turned his back to the other Ultra, "I saw strength, strength that you seem to be unable to see with your current mindset, I also the makings of a great knight and perhaps the greatest hero the Royal Knights had ever seen." Gallant hung his head in shame, "You're wrong though, I have no strength, I've always been a weakling who couldn't even be accepted into the space force, what strength could you ever see in me?"

Omega turned around and placed a finger on the young Ultra's chest, "You're wrong, while you may have lacked physical strength, I saw a great amount of other strength within you, strength that will one day show itself when you become confident in your abilities and realize what true strength is." Gallant shook off his master's hand, "Master what are you talking about?" Omega put a hand on his chin and stroked it, "Hmmm I'm bad at explaining this kind of stuff, If you really want to know more then go see Ultraman Ganko."

Gallant nodded, "The knight of strength! Of course Master Omega that's a great idea." The young Ultra ran off in excitement leaving the aging Ultra behind. Omega sighed, he could only hope his young protege would discover the strength inside of him before it would one day be too late.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Present Day

It was later in the day and since Reika was being less than cooperative and Captain Kakuhiro didn't want her to end up killing him, he had Takato help Tsubasa wash the firehawk. As much as he wanted to help clean the jet, he found himself still feeling down as he slowly washed the side of it, causing his teammate besides him to frown, "Alright it's time for a break, throw the sponge over there and I'll grab us some drinks." Takato nodded and followed the older man to the break room, where he was handed a can by him, "Here, my treat since you had to deal with Reika all day."

Takato looked at the can, unsure how to open it until he watched Tsubasa pop the tab of his own can, mimicking him before taking a sip, "Wow this is really good!" Tsubasa laughed and shook his head, "Man you really weren't kidding when you said you came from a small village." Takato nodded and the two continued to sip their drinks, silence filling the air before Takato put his drink onto the table, "Can I ask you something?" Tsubasa stopped drinking and raised an eyebrow at him, "Sure as long as it's not anything science related, it's not my strong suit."

Takato let out a small laugh, "No it's nothing like that, I was just wondering what was with Reika, she practically killed me today and kept getting angry at me with every mention of Ultraman." Tsubasa frowned, "I'll admit I'm not the smartest when it comes to her, she doesn't exactly like me, but I do know that she takes her job here seriously, and for her she sees Ultraman as a threat to it." Takato sighed, "So that means she's allowed to be a jerk to me?" Tsubasa shook his head, "No not really, but just try to stick it out man, she's hard on everyone, so don't worry and keep trying your best."

Takato frowned, "Still, I get that I may not be the strongest but I'm not weak and I can get the job done, she just needs to lay off." As the two finished their drinks they heard a voice from the side of them, "I didn't recruit you because of how strong you are or not." The two turned to see Captain Kakuhiro standing there, his usual warm smile on his face, "Taking a break from washing the firehawk I see." The two stood up and saluted him as Tsubasa tried covering for them, "Sir, Takato was feeling a little down so I thought we could use a break."

Kakuhiro nodded, "Yes about that, Takato would you come with me, we need to talk. Tsubasa I trust you can finish the washing on your own." Tsubasa nodded as Takato got up to follow the Captain, unsure of what the older man may have wanted.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

He had followed Captain Kakuhiro to the roof, the sun was setting and Takato couldn't help but admire the beauty of it, the earth had so many marvels and he'd barely seen any of them. Kakuhiro cleared his throat getting his attention, "So imagine my surprise today when Reika comes in, ranting about how weak and useless you are and how I should just fire you and make sure you go back to wherever you came from." Takato frowned, "Captain, I'm so sorry that the faith you placed in me was for nothing." Kakuhiro held up a hand for him to stop, "I should be the one apologizing, I knew Reika would be hard on you and I should've warned you, and I should apologize for Reika's behavior, I've known her for a long time and she takes her job here seriously."

Takato raised an eyebrow, "You knew her before she came here?" Kakuhiro nodded, "I've known her for 16 years, you see her father was my captain when I was a rookie just about your age." Takato nodded, "What happened to him?" Kakuhiro sighed, "You see when I joined the JSDF was about the time the first Ultraman showed up, the Captain Aikawa firmly believed that while Ultraman was an ally, we humans shouldn't slack off from our jobs of protecting earth. My entire squad loved and respected him, Reika was especially close with him and she came to visit us as often as she could, everyone treated her as a niece."

Takato frowned, "Sir what happened to her father?" Kakuhiro looked out into the sunset, remembering that the day 15 years ago, "15 years ago was Ultraman's last battle, him and the kaiju he was facing were at risk of destroying the city and to make matters worse Reika had been trapped in a building, her father believing that was the safest place for her. He, in order to save his daughter, lured the kaiju away from the building as well as distracted it so Ultraman could defeat it, unfortunately though his heroics came at the cost of his life. All Reika saw though was Ultraman and the destruction he caused, since then she's hated him. I found her not long after, scared but unharmed and since then I watched over her and recruited her into the JSDF when she was old enough."

Takato nodded, "Sir if you don't mind me asking, what happened to Ultraman, since you think it's a different one than the one that showed up recently." Kakuhiro shrugged, "We never knew, it was the last time he ever appeared, perhaps when he saw that his battles caused the death of an innocent father he felt shame, and decided to never appear again."

The way he spoke, Takato wasn't sure but those words felt more personal than the captain let on, but it wasn't his place to question him. Captain Kakuhiro walked up and placed a hand on his shoulder, smiling at him, "I know you'll find the strength you need, just keep trying." With that he walked away, leaving Takato to ponder his words and the history of his teammate.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

It was the next day and Takato and Reika were once again out on patrol. Takato had found his resolve and was improving himself, having impressed in the shooting range and now they found themselves pursuing the same Dada as yesterday. As he turned down an alley he put his finger against his ear, "Reika he's heading down an alleyway, if you can cut in front of him we can get him." Instead of getting a response he was surprised as the Dada was cut off by Reika appearing in front of him, giving Takato a chance to take aim at it with his stinger, stunning it and causing it to fall to the ground.

Putting away his stinger he walked up to the fallen alien who was already being restrained by Reika, "Not bad today rookie, I guess the tough love worked on you." Takato nodded, "I guess I realized that even if we have Ultraman we can't rely on him, it's our duty as humans to defend the earth." Reika frowned, "So Captain told you about my dad huh?" Takato looked away not wanting to see if she was glaring at him, "He may have mentioned it but he didn't give any details." Reika sighed but Takato noticed she had a slight smile on her face, "Well it was unavoidable, you would've found out eventually anyway.

He was a sucker for rookies like you and seems the Captain inherited that from him." As they loaded the dada into the car they suddenly began to feel a rumbling around them as they watched as citizens in the area began to fall over from the rumbling. Reika cursed under her breath as she slammed the door in Dada's face, "That rumbling can't be good." Takato nodded in agreement, "Asuna come in, do you guys have anything back at base?" The two heard some yelling back and forth before they got a response, "Well I got some good news and bad news, good news is while it is a Kaiju it'll be materizaling far enough away that your area can be evacuated." Reika frowning practically growled into the communicator, "And what's the bad news?"

Instead of Asuna, Captain Kakuhiro responded, "The Firehawk is in maintenance which means Tsubasa won't be able to give you assistance in the sky for another hour." The two looked at a large amount of purple energy rising up from the buildings, taking the form of a large monster on four legs. Reika looked at Takato, "Rookie you seem to know a lot about Kaiju, any idea who we're dealing with?" Takato nodded slowly, a terrified look in his eye, "That's Skydon, he's known for his really strong armor that can withstand most weapons and not even have a scratch on it."

Reika nodded and sighed, "Great just great, let's get started with evacuations, you know what rookie for once I actually hope Ultraman shows up, because I have no idea how we're gonna kill this thing." Takato nodded in agreement, Ultraman would show up, but Takato honestly didn't know how he'd defeat a monster like this. All he could do for now though was help evacuate citizens, then he could worry about attacking Skydon.

Takato had found himself having finished evacuating another neighborhood, they were almost done as he ran to Reika, "That neighborhood is evacuated, how many more do we have?" Reika checked her device and frowned, "Only two more, the only problem is that the rampaging dinosaur is getting closer and we don't have time unless something distracts it." Takato nodded and unholstered his stinger, firing a shot from it that hit Skydon and causing it to roar, "Can you get those last two neighborhoods done quickly?"

Reika nodded, "Yes but please tell me you aren't going to do something stupid?" Takato shook his head, "If we don't have the Firehawk to lure it away then I'll do it myself, just get those people evacuated." Reika shook her head in horror, knowing full well he intended to sacrifice himself, "No way rookie, I'm not letting you sacrifice yourself when you're starting to grow on me."

Takato shot at Skydon again and frowned, "We don't have much of a choice Reika, trust me I'll be fine now go evacuate those people." He began to run off, shooting the rampaging Skydon more as Reika reached out for him, "Dammit rookie, Takato you better not die." She sighed and ran off, she was going to kick his ass if he managed to survive this.

Once he was far enough away Takato removed the white royal card from his pocket, "Ok now let's see what Ultraman can do." Holding it forward the red gateway appeared in front of him and he ran into the red room. Holding up his arm the Gallant Spark appeared on his wrist. He took out his royal card and held it up, "Royal Card Set!" The Gallant Spark lit up as the card began to glow, "ROYAL CARD ACCEPTED!" Takato threw the glowing card up as it began to grow into another white portal, putting a hand on the Gallant Spark, "Knight of loyalty: Justice like lightning!"

He released his hand from it, causing it to glow brighter as he held it above his head, "GALLANT!" The portal enveloped as he began to grow, "ULTRAMAN GALLANT: LIGHTNING JUSTICE!" A red and white swirl appeared as Gallant rose from it, fully appearing in the city and gaining the attention of Skydon who simply roared at him. Making a fighting stance Gallant spoke to him, "I am the knight of loyalty, Gallant and I won't allow you to destroy the city."

From a nearby building the mysterious man smirked, "Ultraman Gallant huh, well then let the games begin." His hand glowed purple as Skydon seemed to react to it, charging at Gallant who barely had time to side step to dodge the attack, trying to hand a kick to the monster's side which seemed to do nothing to it. Trying to throw a few punches and kicks, Gallant was met with resistance in every hit at Skydon continued to ignore the hits. Gallant backed away slowly as he summoned his lance and shield, "Fine let's see how you like this!"

He charged forward with his weapons ready, trying to find some kind of weakness in his armor but finding nothing at all as Skydon opened its mouth, breathing fire at the Ultra and sending him backwards onto the ground. This was getting him nowhere, Skydon shrugged off every one of his attacks and he was getting tired. He had one last trick up his sleeve, his shield began to glow as he aimed it at the Kaiju, "SPECIUM SHIELD!"

A large red and white beam came out of his shield, hitting Skydon who unfortunately for Gallant was unharmed. Skydon roared and purple energy surrounded him, as he began to charge the young Ultra hitting him with the energy causing him to be sent flying to the ground. His color timer began to blink as Gallant began to lose consciousness, the last thing he heard was his color timer and Skydon roaring.

1000 Years Ago

It had been a short flight away but Gallant had arrived at the training arena Ultraman Ganko had called home. He saw as the black and silver Knight of Strength repelled his own student, Ultraman Jes, as he folded his arms and laughed, "Come now Jes, surely you can do better than that." Gallant landed and approached the two, "Sir Ganko can I please ask for a moment of your time?" He nodded to Jes who simply nodded back, before he had joined Jes was the newest member of the team so the two had developed a friendship and understanding.

Ganko turned around to look at him, "Oh hello Gallant, I hope you aren't here to spar, I'm sure Omega would kill me if I hurt his prized student." Gallant shook his head, "No, I've been trying to become stronger and Master Omega said I should ask you since you're the knight of strength, so I wanted to know, how did you get so strong." Ganko nodded at the question and put a hand to his chin, "Hmmmm how did I get so strong huh." As he scratched his chin he suddenly began to laugh, "That's an easy one, I became strong because I wanted to protect my friends and the other people of this universe."

Gallant nearly fell over from the simple answer, "Wait that's really it? You're strong because you have friends?" Ganko shook his head, "I didn't gain my strength through physical training Gallant, my strength comes from inside, it's the strength to protect, the desire you feel inside when you have people you want to keep safe, one day you'll find your own strength within that desire." Gallant nodded slowly, he was still confused but perhaps one day it would come to him.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Within his own space inside of his body Takato awakened, the world around him moving slowly as he stood up within the red room. He finally understood it, true strength wasn't physical, it was wanting to protect people, the willingness to make that sacrifice for others. Reika's father had it, Captain Kakuhiro had tried explaining it to him and Ganko and Omega had seen it in him. This is why Master Omega recruited him, because he had the desire to protect life, to protect all beings and protect those that were close to him.

This was the strength to protect and he had found it and he would use it to protect the innocent. Suddenly a glow appeared blinding Takato as he looked at a new royal card, "Is this the power Ultraman King gave me?" Grabbing the card Takato held it up the Gallant Spark, "Alright then I'll use it to protect the earth!" The Gallant Spark glowed red as the card was accepted, "ROYAL CARD ACCEPTED!" Throwing the card up Takato placed his hand on the brace, "Knight of Loyalty: Protecting the innocent with my strength!" The Gallant Spark glowed brighter as Takato raised it to the sky once again, "GALLANT!"

A now red portal engulfed him as he began to feel his body changing, "ULTRAMAN GALLAT: MEDIEVAL JUSTICE!" A red light engulfed Gallant within the city, blinding Skydon as Gallant Medieval Justice stood up. Gallant was now more muscular and his shoulders were wider, red and silver armor were now on his entire chest and his color timer was now red, silver armor covered his legs as well and while it appeared that Gallant was no longer as fast, he certainly gained strength and defense. He made a hand gesture as a large battle axe appeared in his hand, "VORTEX AXE!' He twirled the axe around him effortlessly as he charged Skydon again, slashing at the monster a few times as it roared in pain, the vortex axe being strong enough to damage his armor.

Skydon tried breathing fire again in response but Gallant ignored it, his defenses being strong enough to not feel it as he began to twirl the axe faster as it glowed red, "CRESTIUM SLASH!" He slashed at Skydon twice in an x formation as the kaiju was knocked back but still standing. Takato within his room of light frowned, "Dammit still not enough, wait Ultraman King said my comrades would help me." Taking out the royal cards King had given him he found the one he was looking for and placed it on his brace, "Knight of Strength: Comrade hear my call, lend me your power.!" The brace glowed as an image of Ultraman Ganko appeared behind Gallant, "ULTRAMAN GANKO!"

Gallant's fist began to glow with fire as he charged at Skydon, "SEISEIUM PUNCH!" Skydon was hit by the punch, being thrown back as Gallant noticed a crack in his armor, "Alright that's where I'll hit you." He charged his Vortex Axe again and began to charge at Skydon, "CRESTIUM SLASH!" He completely ran through Skydon, the kaiju splitting in two as it exploded, leaving Gallant victorious as his color timer continued to blink. His axe disappeared as Gallant took off to the skies in victory, "SCHWATCH!"

He flew off into the sky, as the mysterious man laughed in amusement, "So the brat can change forms and use the power of the other Royal Knights, this is certainly gonna be interesting." He continued to laugh unaffected by his loss, there'd be more time for fun another day.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Takato arrived back at the JSDF headquarters quickly, he hadn't heard from any of them and he was hoping everything had worked out ok. He was met with a worried Reika and the rest of his teammates staring at him, "You're alive! I'm so glad, now get over here so I can kill you for doing something so reckless." Kakuhiro stopped her from charging at him and smiled, "I'm glad to see you're alright, now please don't do something like that again." Takato nodded as Reika regained her composure, "Alright so I'll admit it, you aren't that bad, I suppose I could tolerate you having my back in the field, I'm sorry for calling you useless."

Takato laughed at her attempt at an apology, "I'm glad I could prove my worth, though truth be told I'm only safe because Ultraman showed up and saved me." Asuna nodded and looked at the footage that was on the screens of Gallant, "You know since this ones the second one I wonder what we should call him, since we can't just refer to the past Ultraman and new Ultraman as the same." Takato scratched his cheek and smiled, "I uh, I think I heard him say his name was Gallant."

Kakuhiro nodded, "I like it, well then I suppose we should be thanking our other hero of the day, Ultraman Gallant the unofficial member of the JSDF!" Takato nodded in agreement, he had learned a valuable lesson today, not only finding his strength but learning about the resolve of his new human teammates as well.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

People gathered around as a massive crater encompassed a small village, they weren't sure what had landed there but it had seemed to be gone now. As an old man turned away from it he found a young man with maroon hair staring at him, "Can I help you young man?" The young man nodded, "Uh yea can you tell me where I am?" The old man nodded, "Sure you're in the Wei village, just outside of Shanghai, China."

The young man frowned, "Damn I didn't land where I was supposed, hey old man can I ask another question?" The old man nodded, "Sure I don't see why not." The young man smiled, "Can you tell me anything about Ultraman?" The old man nodded slowly, no one noticing the strange device that was poking out from the young man's pocket.
