Iosefka's Clinic, Yharnam, Unknown Date and Time
Percy appeared within Iosefka's clinic, the new and improved Riptide in his right hand and his new flintlock in his left. Percy walked through the doors and into the room where he had been killed before. He crept up on the large wolf beast and thrust his sword forward. This time the blade cut into the beast, spilling an obscene amount of blood. The beast turned on Percy snarling at its newfound injury. Percy quickly dodged the beast and fired his new firearm. The bullet slammed into the beast, staggering it. Percy leapt forward and acting on pure instinct, thrust his hand forward. His hand tore into the beast and as he pulled it out, he tore with it the beast's heart.
The beast slumped down, very much dead. Percy looked at his blood drenched hand in horror. What had possessed him to do that? Despite his horror over his actions, he could not deny the effectiveness of said action. He had torn the beast's heart out, and ended a fight much faster, a fight which could have killed him. Percy moved forward and arrived at the doors leading out of the clinic. Sheathing his sword on his back and stowing his gun at his side, Percy moved forward and pushed the doors open.
To enter a city unlike any he had ever seen. Dusk was upon the gothic town; a style Percy knew had been used over a hundred years ago. Looking down at his flintlock and around at his surroundings, it seemed that this new world he had found himself in was over a hundred years in the past. Deciding to move on and try to find a way home, Percy moved to the closed gate and pushed it open. Walking up the street, Percy saw a man with a torch, seemingly patrolling the street.
"Excuse me?" Percy called out to the man. The man whirled around and began to quickly approach the young demigod turned Hunter.
"Wretched beast!" The man shouted as he neared Percy. Percy stood confused, until he felt a sudden pain in his stomach. He looked down to find the man's axe imbedded in him, blood oozing out. Percy looked up at the man in shock, surprised he would hurt an innocent person. The man pulled his axe from the dying Hunter and swung it again with a cry of, "Die, foul beast." The blade took Percy's head from his shoulders, his surprise still on his face.
A few moments later and Percy stood in the Hunter's Dream once again. He brought his hands to his head to find it there, then he checked his stomach to find it in one piece. He turned to the Doll the confusion on his face evident. The Doll smiled at his confusion, as she quickly discerned what had happened. "Death has no hold on you Hunter. If you are to die, you will find yourself here, in the Dream."
"Why did that man attack me, why did he call me a beast?" Percy asked, still surprised at the man's assault.
"It is the beast plague, many of the inhabitants of Yharnam are now beasts, they will try to kill you. If you wish to survive, Good Hunter, you must hunt. You will have to kill them."
Percy was stunned, if he wished to survive, he would have to kill people. Not just one or two, but most who he encountered. This revelation made him think back to Ares' curse, to know only blood and death. This is what Ares had meant, until Percy could get home, he would have to kill and most likely be killed numerous times. Percy steeled himself and asked a simple question; "Those people, they will eventually become like that wolf, right?"
"Yes, Good Hunter, all infected with the plague will become beasts, even you."
"I'm infected? Is there any way to cure it?" Percy asked.
"Search the city, perhaps you will find answers there, for I know not a cure. Hunters have told me of the Healing Church. They know of blood and its uses, perhaps they know a cure."
"Do I truly have to kill them?" Percy asked having no desire to kill others.
"If there is no cure, then to kill them is a mercy. You are a Hunter now, and a Hunter must hunt." The Doll responded, wanting the new and kind Hunter to survive.
With a new resolve and a lead on what to do, Percy approached the gravestone that would take him to Yharnam. He asked for Iosefka's Clinic. His body began to fade and soon he appeared next to the lantern within the clinic. Percy quickly began to search the clinic, as it had been where he had been administered blood. His search paid off as he soon found a note, written in Ancient Greek, "Seek Paleblood to transcend the Hunt."
This only brought more questions to Percy's mind. Why was the note written in Ancient Greek? What was Paleblood? If transcending the Hunt meant a cure to his newfound illness, where would he find Paleblood? Realizing that speculating would not get him anywhere, Percy left the clinic and entered the streets once again. This time he did not call out to the man who had killed him, instead he snuck up behind the man, and stabbed him in the back. Several small tears fell from Percy's eyes as he killed the man. He muttered a quick, "I'm sorry" then pushed the man from off his blade.
With the man now dead, Percy observed his surroundings and saw two other men sleeping a few feet away. He also saw a ladder and the lever that would lower it. He ignored the two men, deciding that he would not partake in useless bloodshed. He moved to the lever and pulled it dropping the ladder. After climbing to the top, he found a lantern awaiting him. Percy quickly lit the lantern and with a way back to the Dream, he began to investigate the area.
To the left of the lantern Percy found a large, sealed gate. After his attempts to open it were met with failure, Percy headed the other way. The he found a walkway overlooking a large alley leading to a large bonfire. Within Percy could see several of the citizens of Yharnam. Steeling himself for what he knew lied ahead, Percy moved up the walkway to head into the alley. As he approached the stairs leading down a man attacked him.
Percy quickly blocked the man's blade and fired his pistol into the man's torso. The man flew back from the force of the blow and quickly expired. Percy, shaken by the fact he had now killed two men, began to move forward. He reached the end of the stairs only to find two more of the beast men. They attacked the young Hunter and were quickly killed. With each kill, Percy felt as if his hands were unclean, as he killed more and more, he could feel his innocence, his pureness die. He moved up the alley, killing the beasts who tried to kill him. As he moved through killing the beasts, tears could be seen, rolling down the young man's eyes.
Soon the alley and bonfire were clear of beasts, seeing he was relatively safe, Percy sank to his knees, tears streaming down his face. Was this what he had to become, not the hero he had always imagined, but a killer. Was he Perseus Jackson, the hero, or had he started the path to become something else? Had he started the path to being a monster. As these thoughts plagued his mind, he remembered what the doll had said, that to kill the beasts was to grant them mercy. He grabbed his blade and pistol and stood. He may not be the hero he had always thought of, but he would give mercy to others. If killing these men was a form of mercy, then he would grant it. He wasn't a monster as long as he did not revel in the killing, right?
His resolve once again restored, the young man moved forward to continue his hunt. He came to the other side of a large door, into another large courtyard. As the Hunter walked up the path, he could hear voices from a house up ahead. Percy approached the door and knocked. The response told him all he needed to know, he was mocked for being outside during a hunt and then those inside began to laugh maniacally at his misfortune. Percy ignored this and moved forward. He soon came into the road and looking back the way he had come, he saw a large giant banging on the door. Percy had only one thought, 'I'm not going that way'.
He quickly left the giant be and moved up the stairs. Here he came upon several dogs and saw a few more beastmen coming down the stairs with another dog. Moving faster than any mortal and even Hunter, Percy quickly killed the dogs and then fell upon the men. As he began his attack on the men, he activated the new trick function on Riptide, causing the single blade sword to become a twinblade. He holstered his pistol and took his new weapon up in two hands. His moves were quick and efficient, land numerous blows upon his foes in a matter of seconds. Percy attacked so quickly that his enemies did not have a chance to attack him, leaving him unharmed.
Percy tricked his weapon back to its original form and unholstered his pistol as he headed up the stairs and onto the Great Bridge of Yharnam. Down the bridge Percy saw two large wolf creatures like the one he had killed in the clinic. He ran forward firing his gun as he went. The bullet crashed into the beast closest to him staggering it. With the beast on its back foot, Percy stabbed his sword through it before it could react. Then acting quickly, he withdrew his sword and jumped backward.
The other wolf had not been idle as Percy killed its brother. It had launched an attack as Percy had killed its brother. This attack missed thanks to Percy's quick reflexes, however. Percy swung his blade forward, landing a hit on the beast. This left him open however, and the beast made use of the opening. It swung its arm, sending Percy flying into the side of the bridge. Percy jumped up, dodging the beast's follow up attack. Percy then jumped forward, stabbing his sword into the beast's side. Percy kicked the now dead beast off of his sword.
Percy continued forward to find a man at the top of some stairs leading into a house. Percy killed the insane man and moved into the house. After he quickly cleared the house, he moved out of it, finding a set of stairs going upward. Here he found another man which was quickly disposed of. At the top of the stairs, Percy found a gate, the same gate that had been blocking his way earlier.
"Huh, I'm back at the lantern." Percy stated as he pushed the large gate open. "Looks like I have a shortcut now, which means I don't have to walk all that way."
With the gate now opened, Percy went back through the house and back to the bridge. He continued up it, finding a giant and several large crows. Percy was able to quickly kill the crows, but the giant was another story. 'Why is this guy so big?' Percy thought as he dodged around the giant's attacks. Finally, Percy saw an opening in the beast's attacks, and he launched his own. He sent three slashes into the beast's legs and stomach, which did...absolutely nothing. Percy dodged the giant's attacks, with only one thought. 'Holy shit. I hit that thing pretty hard those three times and it did nothing. What will it take to kill this thing, I can't dodge forever.'
After some time, another opening presented itself. With this new opportunity, Percy holstered his gun, grabbed his blade with two hands, and, with all the strength in his body, swung his sword. The blade tore into the giant's chest and tore from that point to its hip and out of the beast's body. The beast stood still for a moment and then collapsed, dead. Percy unholstered his pistol and continued forward. As he came to the end of the bridge, a large beast appeared from the rooftops. A roar was heard and then the beast jumped onto the bridge to face Percy in battle.
Looking upon the large beast, Percy only had one thought, 'You've got to be fucking kidding me!'
It's been a while, but I'm back. Been playing a lot of Bloodborne recently so I decided to update this story. Was a bit of a hiatus but now I plan on trying to update at least every month. Other than that, Percy has begun his trials in Yharnam and is already questioning it all. Poor guy. Anyway, as always thanks for reading and please leave a review.
