As soon we got back to the castle Adom and I made our way to the Slytherin dorms so we could check-in with the sand soldiers that I sent out to watch over certain people. As soon as we enter the common room we head straight to my room. Once we are in my room. I close my eyes and pull the sand minions to me.
"Yes your Grace." one of them said
"I would like the report on the two people I had you watching. So who wants to go first?" I asked
"I will. I was watching the redhead. He did nothing of importance. All he did was sleep and eat it was very boring."
"Thank you, and I do apologies for it being boring." I said
"I however was very busy watching my person. He was given something called an invisibility cloak. He used this cloak to break into the restriction section he was almost caught, while he was trying to get away he found a mirror. The Headmaster found him one night and said that the mirror showed not himself but his heart desire."
"Okay, I want you two to continue to watch, you do not have to worry about watching the redhead just the other one. Only appear to me if you have important information" I said
"Of course your grace." they both said
And with that, they blew away in the wind. Adom and I turned and left my dorm room.
"Do you think they have something planned?" Adom asked
"Yes, I do. It is not a coincidence that there is a three-headed dog on the third floor standing on a trap door, or the fact that the Mirror of Erised is in the castle, and if you add in the fact that Jr. got an invisibility cloak. Someone is planning something." I said
"Do not forget the Headmaster's warning about certain death on the third floor" Adom said
I went to say something more but I didn't get the chance as Theo and Marcus walked up to us.
"Why must the two of you talk in Ancient Egyptian it is not fair for the two of us." Theo said
"Whoever said we were fair?" I asked
They both looked at us.
"She has a point." Marcus said
"Sometimes we forget that we are doing it." I said
We continued to walk together till we got to the Great Hall, we entered and sat down in our normal spots. When dinner was done we all headed back to the common room. I sat down in my normal spot with Adom, Marcus, and Theo around me.
"So how was your holiday?" Theo asked
"Fine, I like being back with my parents and little brother." I said
"Is your brother going to be coming here when he turns eleven?" Theo asked
"Probably not, I don't believe Alex has magic." I said
"So you are the only one in your family with magic?" someone asked
Most of the room went ridged just thinking about the fact that I could possibly be a muggle-born witch in their house. I rolled my eyes knowing that I had already gone over this once before.
"This is the last time I'm going to talk about this, so listen closely. I'm adopted, my brother is a muggle. My father and mother are muggles, that doesn't mean they aren't magical." I said
"I thought you just said that you were adopted, how do you know that your parents are muggles?" Someone else asked
"In the eyes of the magical and muggle world, the O'Connell's are my parents. I will never call them anything other than my parents. The people who gave birth to me are both magical and as far as I am concerned they are dead to me. Thanks to the goblins I have nothing to do with them and them with me." I said
The room was still silent, I had hoped that this would be the end of the conversation but sadly it was not.
"Do you know who your birth parents are?" someone asked
"Yes, I do." I said
"It doesn't matter if you are adopted or not you are still live with Muggles and your adopted parents are muggles. So to us, you are nothing better than a mud-" someone else said
I cut the person off by throwing them against the wall.
"You will never speak those words in front of me, and no one I repeat no one will ever talk about my family like that. If I catch anyone saying it they will find themselves with a one ticket to the hospital wing." I said
I got up and left the common room and headed to my dorm room. I wasn't in my room long before Adom came in.
"Do you think they finally understand?" Adom asked
"No, they aren't as smart as you would think. I mean this is a house that values self-preservation." I said
"Do you think they will be foolish enough to say it again?" Adom asked
"Yes, I do and if they do I will make them bleed." I said
A few days passed and Adom, Theo, Marcus, and I were in the library when we heard Jr, Carrot Top, and Hermione talking. We see Hermione walking up to them with a huge book, which she thumps onto the table.
"I had you two looking in the wrong section! How could I be so stupid? I checked this out a few weeks ago for a bit of light reading." Hermione said
"This is light?" Carrot Top asked
She glares at him.
"Of course! Here it is! 'Nicholas Flamel is the only known maker of the Philosopher's Stone'." Hermione said
"The what?" Carrot Top and Jr asked
"Are they really that stupid?" I heard Marcus whisper
"Evidently." Theo answered
"Honestly, don't you two read? The Philosopher's Stone or the Sorcerer's Stone is a legendary substance with astonishing powers. It will turn any metal into pure gold and produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal." Hermione said
"Immortal?" Carrot Top asked
"It means you'll never die." Hermione said
"I know what it means!" Carrot Top said
"What a surprise. The only stone currently in existence belongs to Mr. Nicholas Flamel, the noted alchemist, who last year celebrated his 665th birthday. That is what Fluffy's guarding on the 3rd floor. That's what's under the trapdoor…the Philosopher's Stone." Hermione said
They all exchanged looks, before getting up and leaving the library. Adom and I exchange a look before I quickly call a sand Anubis to me.
"My Queen." It said
"On the third floor of this castle is a room with a trap door guarded by a three-headed dog. I want you to go down it and find out what other protections are around a blood-red stone. Then report back to me." I said
"Of course your grace." it said
Then it blows away. I turn to see Marcus and Theo looking at me with wide eyes and mouths open.
"Wh-What was that?" Marcus asked
"That was a member of the Army of Anubis." I said
They both nod but still at me wired.
"And what did you ask it to do?" Marcus asked
"I asked it to see what other things are protecting the stone." I said
"Why?" they both asked
Adom and I looked at each other.
"Because I am going to steal it." We said
"Oh" Theo said
Was it smart to tell them that?-Tom
It is the first test.
You want to see if you can trust them? If they are worthy to stand with you? -Tom
Yes.
I approve. -Tom
Glad I have your approval, though I wasn't looking for it.
Brat. -Tom
"Let's go back to our homework there is nothing to be done till your little friends come back with more info." Marcus said
"Actually I want you to tell me what the two of you have been doing since the incident in the common room when we came back from break." I said
So Marcus went ahead and told me what he and Theo had been doing. Evidently, I had somehow without knowing completed all the steps without even knowing or trying.
"Well then, since I started it I might as well finish it." I said
Marcus then told me the last step I needed to do in order to obtain this new position. Evidently, all I need was someone from another year.
"Do you have any suggestions?" I asked
"Either Cassius Warrington a third-year, Graham Montague a fifth year, or Adrian Pucey a fourth-year. They would be the smartest picks. The Warrington family was neutral in the last war. Montague and Pucey on the other hand are in the belief that muggles and muggle-borns are beneath half-bloods and purebloods." Marcus said
What do you think Tom?
What do you want to do? -Tom said
If I want them to stop fighting me and to show that blood doesn't matter than I would try to make Montague and Pucey submit. But at the same time do I want people that I would constantly have to fight against, that I would have to constantly prove myself too.
The Pucey family was part of Voldemort's group during the first war but they never took the mark. If I was picking I would go with Warrington and Montague. Then maybe later add in Pucey. -Tom said
Okay, thank you.
I agree with that Tom man. You should not have to prove yourself constantly. -Mathayus said
"I would like to speak with Warrington and Montague." I said
"Together or separate?" Marcus asked
"Separate and set it up for as soon as possible." I said
"Of course." Marcus said
He nodded his head and left the library to no doubt start this next and last step that was needed. I looked back at Theo who had a huge grin on his face. I raised an eyebrow at him. He didn't say anything he simply followed Marcus' example and left the library. So then I faced Adom, he and I both got up and headed out of the library and made our own way down to the Slytherin dorms. Once we were in my dorm Adom broke the silence that had been created.
"Scorpion Queen, Ruler of Egypt, Russia, Scotland, and Ireland. Soon to be Ruler of France and Bulgaria. And to top it off about to become the Queen of Slytherin." Adom said
"This is exactly what I need right now. Juggling four countries, my family and finding blackmail information wasn't enough on my plate, now we have controlling an entire group of entitled racist." I said
"You will always have to deal with people who are entitled or racist or a combination of that and more." Adom said
"I know but it doesn't make any of this easy." I said
"Get over it." Adom said
"Wow, thanks for the words of support." I said
He raised an eyebrow at me.
"I'm tired." I said
Adom just looked at me.
"Okay have a good sleep." Adom said
He turned and left my room.
You totally just dismissed him. -Tom said
I don't care at the moment. I need to think and be alone.
Okay, but I'll be here if you need me. -Tom said
I know thank you.
My mind went quiet, so I turned and grabbed my nightclothes before heading into the bathroom to take a relaxing bath. As I laid in the bath I thought over the events that have happened so far and what I planned to do in the future events to come.
"Why must everything be so difficult." I said
I closed my eyes and pushed myself under the water, I stayed like that for a few seconds before coming up for air. I quickly finished my bath, dried off, and got dressed before heading to bed. I wasn't lying in bed for more than a few minutes before a sand soldier appeared.
"Sorry to disturb your slumber but I thought you would like to know that those three we have been watching are at a very tall man's living place." the soldier said
"Do not worry, thank you for telling me." I said
The soldier nods his head before disappearing. I close my eyes and focus on seeing what was going on. What was once blurry becomes clear and I see Jr, Carrot Top, and bookworm outside Hagrid's hut.
"Hagrid." Jr yells
"Oh, hello. Sorry, don't wish to be rude, but I'm in no fit state to entertain today." Hagrid said
He closes the door. The three exchange a look.
"We know about the Philosopher's Stone!" The three yell
The door opens once again.
"Oh." Hagrid said
They enter the small hut.
"We think Snape's trying to steal it." Jr said
"Snape? Blimey, James, you're not still on about him, are you? You are begging to sound like your father and godfather." Hagrid said
"Hagrid, we know he's after the Stone. We just don't know why." Jr said
"Snape is one of the teachers protecting the Stone! He's not about to steal it!" Hagrid said
"What?" Carrot Top asked
"You heard, right. Come on, now, I'm a bit preoccupied today." Hagrid said
"Wait a minute. One of the teachers?" Jr asked
"Of course! There are other things defending the Stone, aren't there? Spells, enchantments." Hermione said
"That's right. Waster of bloody time, if you ask me." Hagrid said
Hermione looks at Carrot Top who is being sniffed in the face by a big black boarhound. Ron shuffles away.
"Ain't no one gonna get past Fluffy. Hehe, not a soul knows how. Except for me and Dumbledore. I shouldn't have told you that. I shouldn't have told you that." Hagrid said
I roll my eyes at the lack of brains of this man. A cauldron over a fire begins to rattle. Hagrid hurries over and grabs something and outs the thing, an egg, on the table. The group crowds around.
"Uh, Hagrid, what exactly is that?" Jr asked
"That? It's a…its um…" Hagrid trails off
"I know what that is! But Hagrid, how did you get one?" Carrot Top asked
"I won it. Off a stranger, I met down at a pub. Seemed quite glad to be rid of it, as a matter of fact." Hagrid said
The egg rattles and cracks. Pieces fly off as a dragon emerges. It squeaks and slips on an egg piece.
"Is that…a dragon?" Hermione asked
"That's not just a dragon. That's a Norwegian Ridgeback! My brother Charlie works with these in Romania." Carrot Top said
"Isn't he beautiful? Oh, bless him, look. He knows his mommy. Hehe. Hello, Norbert." Hagrid said
The dragon squeaks as it looks at Hagrid.
"Norbert?" Jr asked
"Yeah, well, he's got to have a name, doesn't he?" Hagrid said
Carrot Top laughs.
"Don't you, Norbert?" Hagrid asked
He raises a finger back and forth across Norbert's chin. Norbert backs away, hiccups, and blows a fireball of fire into Hagrid's beard.
"Ohh! Oooh, ooh, ohh, well…he'll have to be trained up a bit, of course." Hagrid said
Norbert hiccups, Hagrid sees someone looking in the window. I turn to look where he was looking to see none other Malfoy. I shake my head at the moron that is in my house. I close my eyes and when I open them back up I'm back in my dorm.
I grabbed a robe and put it on before heading to the common room to wait for Malfoy. I sit down in the big back chair I cross my ankles and look into the fire and wait. Another half-hour passes before I hear the door open and close once I see Malfoy I use my magic to push him against the wall.
"Mind telling me why you out past curfew?" I asked
"I don't have to answer to someone like you." Malfoy said
I glared at him, I put more pressure on him so he was pushed harder against the wall.
"You will answer my question or you will be a world of pain." I said
"I was trying to get Potter, Weasley, and that muggleborn in trouble." He said
"And tell me what was the result." I said
"I found them in Hagrid's hut and I went and told McGonagall she took 50 points from each of them and gave all four of us detention." He said
"So let me get this straight. You took the risk of losing house points for Slytherin just to get some Gryffindor's in trouble. Not only that but you also have made us look like little rats by telling on the Gryffindor's." I asked
He didn't say anything. I pushed the magic against him, he let out a pain-filled moan.
"This is the last time I'm going to tell you this. When I ask you a question you will answer. Do. You. Understand." I asked
As I said each of the last words I sent painful jolts through him.
"I understand." he said
"Good, now answer the question." I said
"Yes." he said
"Why did you not go to Professor Snape who would have sent you back to this dorm before he went to discipline the Gryffindors? Who would not punish you?" I asked
"I don't know." he said
"And here you and the rest of this house believes I am beneath you for my blood and who raised me. If you do not stop acting like a spoilt arrogant brat I will go above you and talk to your parents. You are a pureblood, you were raised by not only a Malfoy but also a Black act like it." I said
I sent a few more painful shocks through his body.
"This is your last warning I will not be so nice the next time we have to have a conversation like this." I said
I turned and left the common room, I left him against the wall. Once I was in bed and comfortable I let the force holding Draco against the wall leave so he could fall to the floor.
I woke up the next morning feeling well-rested, I quickly got dressed for the day. Once I was done I headed down to the common room.
I wanted to tell you I was very proud of you last night when you were handling the young Malfoy. -Tom said
You know he is like that because his father has taught him that he is above everyone because of his last name and blood right?
There was silence for a moment.
Brat -Tom said
I laugh and step into the common room. Soon I am surrounded by Adom, Theo, and Marcus.
"What can I do for you three so early?" I asked
"Nothing we thought we would walk down to breakfast together." Theo said
I look at him.
"We are going to have to work on your ability to lie." I said
Theo acted as if my words hurt.
"Fine, we want to know what happened last night." Marcus said
"What are you talking about?" I asked
He pointed over to the wall where Malfoy was stuck.
"Oops, I thought I let him down." I said
I waved my hand and he came crashing down. As I walked out of the common room I made a point to step over Malfoy as if he wasn't there, as if he was nothing. Once the four of us were out of the common room there started asking again.
"Amara, what happened?" Adom asked
"Last night a sand minion appeared and told me that Jr, Carrot Top, and Granger were at Hagrid's hut. So I decided to use my magic to see what was happening. Nearing the end of their conversation Hagrid noticed someone outside his window. The someone was Malfoy. He evidential snuck out of the dorms to get them in trouble. He ended up running to McGonagall and told her that they were out of bed. Gryffindor lost a total of 150 points. He is lucky that he didn't lose points. However, he was given detention. When he returned to the common room, we had a chat in which I showed him how he should behave. And if he doesn't I will make him behave in a way that will have a forced outcome." I said
We entered the Great Hall and sat down at the table.
"Can I ask how you are going to force him?" Theo asked
"I'm the Head of the Black Family." I said
Theo's eye grew huge, and Marcus starts to choke on what he was eating. I sent them both a glare. They both quickly recovered.
"How is that possible. The Head of the Black Family is sitting up there right now." Marcus said
As Marcus said that he made a hand motion to the staff table.
"I asked the goblins the same questions. He never fully claimed the Headship. He might go around saying he is Lord Black but in reality, he isn't." I said
"How can you claim it?" Theo asked
"That is a long story that I don't wish to talk about at the moment or ever." I said darkly
"Understood." They both said
We were almost completely done with breakfast by the time Malfoy finally showed. I gave him points for acting like nothing was wrong.
"What were those three even doing at Hagrid's hut at that hour?" Marcus asked
"They were telling Hagrid that they believe Snape is trying to steal the stone." I said
"Why didn't Potter just go to his father or Black with their suspicion?" Theo asked
"Who knows why they didn't, but I couldn't really care why they didn't." I said
Once we were done eating we left the Great Hall and said our farewell to Marcus as we headed to class.
By the time the day was over word had gotten out that Draco had received detention due to him being out of bed past curfew. Though no one had figured out that it was me who had hung him from the wall. We were all currently sitting in the common room when an upper-year walked up to us.
"Cassius Warrington" Marcus introduced
"Why don't you go ahead and heave a seat." I said
As I finished talking a chair appeared behind Cassius with the front of the chair touching behind his knees. He sat down and looked at me.
"Marcus said you wanted to talk to me." Cassius said
"Yes, I want to know what you think about the current state of things." I said
He kind of just looked at me.
"What do you mean by that?" Cassius asked
"What is your belief about Muggleborns?" I asked
Now Cassius actually looked scared to answer my question.
"Please answer honestly I won't be mad." I said
"I'm not a big supporter of them. I do not like the fact that things have to be changed in order to for them to fit in. That years of traditions, and laws, and beliefs have to be destroyed because of them. But I won't openly insult them or bully them. I simply wish that with all we have to do for them they should have to do for us." Cassius said
"So if for example muggleborns or those raised in the muggle world were taught about these traditions, laws, and beliefs would you still have a problem with them?" I asked
"No." Cassius said
"Now what is your opinion on the current Ministry system and people?" I asked
"I think Fudge is controlled by his ego and by the money that is given to him. I also think that the last few bills that have been voted through are stupid, most of them limit the dark or old families. I admit that I don't know much about these things as I don't care for politics." Cassius said
We were all quiet for a moment.
"Thank you for your honesty. Now it is my turn to tell you a few things and see where you stand with these ideas." I said
Cassius nods his head. So I went ahead and told him my future plans for not only this house but also the ministry and the wizarding world. He made a few comments about somethings but other than that he seemed to agree with what I said.
"Can I ask why you wanted to talk to me?" Cassius asked
"Marcus has informed me that I have unknowingly done all the steps to rule Slytherin except getting people from upper years in my court." I said
Cassius's eyes grew bigger.
"So Cassius what do you say, would you like to join my court?" I asked
"It would be an honor." Cassius said
"Good you should know I plan on talking Graham Montague as well." I said
Cassius nods his head.
"If you want you can sit with us or go back to sitting by yourself." I said
Cassius looked like he was thinking it over.
"I would like to sit with you guys." Cassius said
"Okay." I said
Cassius stood up and moved over to where the others were sitting.
"That went well" Adom said
"Kind of but I don't think the next is going to go as smoothly." I said
Adom raised an eyebrow at me.
"The next person is more against muggleborns and half-bloods. He also won't want to believe anything I say. I'll most likely have to show some force." I said
"It will be fine." Adom said
"So now you're giving a pep talk." I said
"I read a book." Adom said
I let out a small giggle. Adom smiled at me.
"Thanks" I said
I held out my hand and summoned one of the textbooks to read through till I finally got the urge to go to bed. I did notice Draco leave the common room to most likely head to his detention. Once he was out of the common room I stood up and headed toward my dorm, once I was in the safety of the common room I called forth a sand soldier.
"My Queen" the soldier said
"I need you to watch a boy with almost white hair. It will only be for tonight. Simply watch and report." I said
"Of course my Queen." the soldier said
He then blew away with the wind. I then turned and left my dorm to head back into the common room. When I got back to the common room I picked my book back up and went back to reading it. Adom came back over to me and bent down to talk to me.
"What did you just do, I felt the magic of one of your sand warriors?" Adom asked
"I sent one of them to watch Draco during the detention." I said
"Why?" Adom asked
"Because I want to know if he has learned his lesson." I said
Adom nodded his head and went back to doing whatever it was that he was doing. Soon most of the people in the common room headed up to their dorm rooms. Soon it was just Marcus, Cassius, Theo, Adom and I in the common room. I closed my book and stood up, the boys turned and look at me.
"Welcome Cassius once I have talked to Graham Montague I will be explaining things in more depth till then I hope that you will behave in a manner that is required for a member of my court." I said
I then turned to look to Adom, Theo, and Marcus.
"I hope you three will explain things to Cassius." I said
With that, I turned and headed back to my dorm room for some sleep.
When I woke the next morning I was able to take a shower and dress before my peace was broken by two of my sand soldiers.
"My Queen, we wish to report what we have seen." one of them said
"Go ahead." I said
So one at a time they told me what they saw. I was disappointed with the fact that Draco screamed and ran off but honestly, it didn't surprise me. I was then told that the person who was drinking the unicorn blood tried to attack Jr, but was stopped by a centaur.
"Thank you, go ahead and go back to watching Jr." I said
"Of course." one of them said
"May I return to the sand?" the other asked
"Of course." I said
With that, both of them blew away. I grabbed my bag and headed down to the common room. When I arrived Adom, Marcus, Theo, and Cassius were waiting for me.
"Good morning boys." I said
"Good morning, Amara." Theo said
We then left the common room and headed to the Great Hall for breakfast. It didn't take us long to reach the hall and sit down to eat.
"What was holding you up this morning? You came down later than normal." Marcus asked
"I was being told how Draco's detention went." I said
"How did it go?" Adom asked
"Not too good. It was in the Forbidden Forest they were looking for a hurt unicorn. He was partnered up with Jr. and they came across a person drinking from the unicorn. Draco screamed and ran off." I said
Theo, Marcus, and Cassius looked horrified most likely at the fact that someone would actually do that.
"Why is that bad?" Adom asked
"Because drinking the blood of a unicorn will curse you. It will curse the drinker with a half-life. It will keep a person alive even if the person is an inch from death. Only the most desperate would drink from a unicorn." Cassius explained
"Who would possibly be that desperate?" Theo asked
We were quite for a moment, I took this moment to go everything I knew so far and finally came up with a name for a person.
"You-Know-Who." I said
The people sitting around us stilled and went quiet for a moment. But soon went back to acting as if I had never said his name. Theo, Marcus, and Cassius looked at me like I was crazy. It looked like Cassius wanted to say something but thought better of it.
"Marcus when am I meeting the next one?" I asked
"Eight-thirty." He said
I nodded my head and went back to eating.
Is there a way to know for sure if the person that was drinking the blood is your current self?
Sadly no. If you were to get very close to the person I could, but other than that no. -Tom said
Okay, thank you.
Anytime. Tom said
The rest of the day went by smoothly. Though Draco did watch us a little more than he used to. After dinner, we all made our way back to the common room. We had just sat down when Draco walked up to me. Adom was quickly by my side, I also took note that from the corner of my eye I saw Theo quickly draw his wand but he kept it to his side. Draco and I just stared at each other, I was not going to be the first to speak.
"I want to apologize for the way I was acting. I don't want to be known for just my name. If you will have me I would like to show and prove that I am more than my pride, my name, my ego, all of it." Draco said
I was silent as was the common room who were waiting to hear my answer.
"You do know what will happen if you are unable to do as you say?" I asked
"Yes, I do and I am prepared for it. However, I don't plan to fail." Draco said
"This is your one and only chance." I said
"Thank you." Draco said
"If you want you may sit with the others, if they will have you." I said
Draco turned and looked at the group of boys. Theo put his wand away and looked at Draco.
"Come on over Draco." Theo said
A small smile appeared on his face and he made his way over to the group of boys. It didn't take long for eight-thirty to come around. It took till almost nine for Graham Montague to show up. He walked up to me with a smug smile on his face. I glared at him and he fell and landed on his knees. He let out a pain-filled gasp.
"Why are you late?" I asked
He didn't answer me nor did he look at me. I sent a more painful shock through his body. He lunged forward, he was now on his hands and knees.
"When I ask you a question you will answer it." I said
He nodded his head.
"I was busy." Graham said
Punish him. Do not let him get away with such disrespect.- Tom said
Oh, I plan on it. I might even take a page from your book.
I could feel Tom smile. So I did as I said I dove into his mind and blasted through what little shields he had. Come to find out he was late because he believed that since he was a pureblood he had the right to keep me waiting. Once I got what I needed I left his mind to find him lying on the ground covered in sweat and panting.
"It would seem that I have to once again show that the status of one's blood does not make you better than anyone else." I said
I pulled out my wand and cast a spell that I had read in a book and wanted to see what it looked like. As soon as I cast the spell Graham let out a scream. Blood started to come out of his skin and come together to form a rose. I did cast a mild version of the spell so that it would hurt but it wouldn't kill him. Soon the blood stops forming the roses. I then turned to face the rest of the common room.
"I warned all of you that I was done playing nice. Look at Montague I had planned to offer him a place on my court and now I don't ever want to see him or hear him or hear his name again." I said
My magic was flowing free pushing against the people in the common room. But at the same time, I was also holding it back.
"Take him to his dorm, he'll be back to normal when he wakes up." I said
Two people step forward from the group of people. They grab ahold of him and start to head towards the stairs that lead to the dorms.
"Be sure to let him know what he has missed as well as how I feel." I said
The two of them nod their heads and continue up the stairs. I then turned back to the group of people in the common room. With my group standing scattered behind me.
