I do not own Revolution in any way. I also have no beta.

Begins after the end of the season 2. I also have never read the comics.

Charlie knew that they were going to have to split up. The brains were going to have to go and deal with the nanite, nanos, the little machines that ruined everyone's life, whatever you want to call them, and that left her, Miles, and Monroe to battle patriots and the physical stuff. That was even if Miles wanted to leave her mother out of his sight for that long. We couldn't have a normal day to relax and just let the world spin. She could hear the arguing from here. While she sat on the porch and drank the whiskey she filched from Miles trying to drown out the sounds of Monroe, Miles, Rachel, Aaron, and surprisingly her grandfather argue about who was going to do what and who was going where.

To say that Miles was pissed was putting it mildly. He didn't want Rachel going with only Aaron to the only place that literally had power. Well one of two places. Bradbury, and the Tower. Miles wanted them to have protection and in the mix of things Monroe of all people reminded them that Rachel was deadly on her own. That stirred up a whole mess of past and present arguments.

Monroe wanting to find his son, Rachel wanting to kill the nanos, Miles wanting to keep everyone safe and get rid of patriots. Charlie, well she just wanted someone to tell her what they hell was the next step. They were so loud that people passing by either scurried on their way or slowed way the hell down. She was halfway through the bottle when one of the runners came up to her on the porch. She didn't blame him; she wouldn't go in the house why should she make him?

"Miss Charlie"

"Yes, Evan?"

"There are troops coming this way. One of the scouts said that they were not patriots, but they didn't want to give them anymore lead time. What should we do?"

Charlie got up and paced, "Send a messenger, tell them to be armed. All the messenger is supposed to do is find out who they are and what they want. Tell them to be quick. Do not engage in battle and to be safe."

"Ok Miss Charlie. I will send them out right away."

"Thank you, Evan."

She watched Even scurry away. She really didn't want to go back into the house, but she was going to have to go and get her gear. Hopefully she could get in and get out without being noticed. Charlie opened the door and scooted around the living room out of sight. Her bag was by the steps and her crossbow was in the closet. She goto to both of them with relative ease, it was getting back out that she got caught.

"Where do you think you are going Charlotte?"

Of course it was Monroe. "Does it really matter where I am going to you?"

He looked at her kind of funny. She doesn't normally see that look on anyone's face, let alone his. It was kind of mesmerizing in its own way. The last thing she wanted was to get into a staring contest with Monroe. "Well considering you are also taking a bag would suggest a couple days out and about. Why would you be leaving when we are in the middle of trying to figure this shit out?"

Charlie could lie to him; she has done it before. Problem is that lying sucks. "A runner came in and said troops were heading this way. I was gonna make my way to the wall and wait for the messenger I sent to come back and tell me who they are and what they want. Or maybe even go out and see who they are myself. It's not like I am needed here in any capacity. Miles and Rachel will figure out what needs to be done and then I will have my marching orders."

Bass didn't know what to think. Did she really not know what kind of influence she could be? He knew she could take care of herself, but he wasn't gonna let her go beyond the wall of the town on her own. He made a promise and he intended to keep it. "Charlotte, you cannot go out there by yourself." Charlie instantly got defensive. Her back went up and Monroe knew he said the wrong thing. He back peddled real quick and said," I know you can take care of yourself, you have proven that time and again, but you can't take on an entire squad by yourself."

Charlie thought about it for half a second. "Fine, come along but I am leaving now. Don't tell the others what is going on. I don't want to alarm them unless I should need to." With that she walked the rest of the way to the door and walked out. Bass turned to the kitchen and grabbed his swords. Miles and Rachel were still arguing about what to do next. They didn't even realize he was about to leave. He hoped they didn't. It would make leaving that much easier. He slipped out of the house and ran next door where he was staying to grab his "go bag" and caught up to Charlie as she was passing through the gate.

Charlie kind of understood Monroe. They spent weeks on the road when she brought him back to Willoughby and kind of found out that when he is not and evil dictator trying to ruin peoples lives that he had nightmares. He lost love. He wanted his best friend back. She found that he was human. Oh, she forgave him a while ago. If she could forgive Miles and Rachel, then why not forgive the man that saved her life a couple times.

This world got screwed up by her parents. Miles and Monroe just tried to make the best of it. Besides if she couldn't have Miles at her back, she would pick Monroe next. Anyway, she had to get out of her head. She found out the direction to the troops from Evan and started heading that way. If this turned into friendly people, then she could hunt on the way back. Evan said the troops were about 2 days out. So, four days in the company of Monroe.

The continued on in silence for the better part of the day. She shot a couple of rabbits for their dinner, and they made camp for the night.

Bass POV

Bass was wondering how she could do it. She was always quiet. If she wasn't a sarcastic little shit. It didn't bother him that they spent the day in silence. The problem that came with silence though was that you were in your head too much. He understood Charlie though. For the better part of two years, she had been fighting and constantly on the move. For her to sit around and do nothing was probably killing her. He noticed that she didn't sit still. Even when she was sitting, she was moving. He thinks that the only time he has seen her completely still is when she is sleeping. Even then though she is plagued by the things that she has done and seen.

Bass wanted to open a line of conversation but maybe thought it would be best not to do that tonight. Sad thing is they fell into a somewhat normal routine when they broke for camp. She sat down to field dress the rabbits and he went about making a fire. She produced two cups and a canteen of water, and he brought out two bowls.

He didn't know when it happened, but he started packing his go bag to counteract hers. He used to pack it for the opposite of Miles but him and Charlotte have been paired up enough lately that it just got to be habit. Bass just knew that he was more in tune with Charlotte than he was ever with Miles, and he found that thought disturbing. She was half his age. He looked at her then. Yeah, she was beautiful. He often wondered if she was actually Miles child. But she was beautiful. If he was honest with himself, she had been the star in a couple fantasies of late.

He didn't want to go there. Hello, that was asking for an ass kicking from not only Miles, but maybe a screwdriver to the chest from Rachel. She still wasn't sold on the idea that he wasn't out for himself. Problem is he has always been the antagonist. It was more than a defense mechanism. It pushed people to try better ideas when he would jump in and say that things won't work. No what he has been thinking about lately is what happens when all the fighting is over? Do they settle down and become normal people again? Do they get the power back on just for better reasons? What is to say that people can settle down into normal lives after fighting the better part of it?

He looked over to Charlotte again and noticed she was watching him. He didn't know what the look on her face was, but he knew he wasn't going to ask either. No point in bringing up a topic of conversation that might screw things up before he even figured out how he felt about it. Instead, he just looked right back admiring the beauty he saw and the strength. "Do you want first watch?"

Charlie POV

Charlie had been lost in thought. She was trying to figure out when her feeling for Monroe started to shift. She didn't hate him. He could be an absolute moron sometimes, but she didn't hate him. She often sought out his company because he didn't ask questions much and he didn't mind if she didn't talk. It was one of those things that just happened. She knew how this night would go. One of them would take the first watch while the other one slept. In that time one of them would move to the other. On a night like this where it was chilly, they would gravitate to one another for warmth. She didn't question it anymore.

Problem was that she got used to it and now when she was at home, she couldn't fall asleep. She was used to sleeping with someone. Not like next to someone all the time, just in the general vicinity. It helped her sleep better knowing someone had her back. Well when you get used to that and then have to sleep on your own again, well lets just say it sucks. She hasn't slept well since the last time they went on adventure. The other problem was that even though she could go out with Miles, she didn't sleep well unless she was with Monroe. She thought about questioning it but didn't really want to fall down that rabbit hole. She would ask herself why that was important to know? How did she feel about Monroe? Did she want to feel anything for Monroe? She looked over to him. He must have been deep in thought because she watched the play of emotions across his face. She didn't realize that she had been staring at him for a while but when your thoughts were all over the place about a man that was supposed to be your enemy left you a bit confused.

She knew that he was a beautiful specimen of a man. Chiseled abs and that rugged face. It made a girl swoon in her boots. She knows sleeping with Conner was a mistake. One that she will regret for the rest of her life but she had already been fantasizing about Monroe. It startled her and she did what she always does and doesn't think. Like Miles said, she didn't keep her stupid to a minimum. But why did he get so angry? Its not like he cares or anything. Right? That would be just weird.

She got a memory flash back not too long ago about him and miles. In it she remembers calling him Uncle Bass. It is kind of weird. But she can't stop the thoughts in her head. She wants him.

He looked up then. He watched her watching him. She thought he would say something to that effect, but he didn't. Instead, he asked, "Do you want first watch?"

"Sure." She cocked her head. "Get some sleep."

He sat there for a minute longer looking at her. Then he got up and moved closer to her and unrolled his bedroll. "Wake me in a couple hours."

"Not a problem."
