The TARDIS materialized in a desolate theatre, filled with growing barnacles, the long red curtain water damaged, the weight amassed from the water, caused it to collapse the support and pulley above. The floors around the theatre, rotted from the salty water, and spots in the wood collapsed due to the dwindling support.
The rows of seats, that once saw dozens of visitors, showed damages, with barnacles growing in majority of the seats.
Red walls, blotched with barnacles, water damage, and the horrible smell of rot, the once-prized windows seats above, collapsed over the seats below, due to the wood rot, and the weight of the barnacles that grew over it.
Stage equipment left behind from a time ago, destroyed from the saltwater, rusted from the inside out, the standing microphones warped and distorted from the rust, and costumes of then became black messes on the ground.
Stage lights rusted and broken from the exposure, suffered the same fates as the rest of the theatre, plunged into darkness as the leaking saltwater ate away at the wiring, deteriorating the connection until the destroyed wiring held no charge, and the power turned off, at least the breakers for the theatre shut off.
Props dotted the stage and it looked like there was a play happening, but no performers in sight, with no one to watch them, either.
A dark and dreary place that hadn't seen any shows in a long time, becoming home to many species of barnacles that bled through the walls of the theatre and the leaking saltwater from above.
The door of the TARDIS opened and Theodore poked his head out first, looking around, the rotted smell hit his nose first, causing it to wrinkle in disgust, before Theodore held a hand over his nose and mouth.
His icy blue eyes scanning, he saw no one, except hundreds of barnacles of different shades and colours dotting areas of the stage they're on.
Stepping out, Theodore heard the wood barely clinging on as his boot heels rested on the boards.
Turning his head, Theodore called for Lila, and she joined him, closing the door behind her, immediately, she smelled the stench of rotting wood and stagnant saltwater.
"Yuck! Smells like grandpa's old dinghy!" Lila complained about the smell as she cautiously maneuvered around the stage as Theodore cautiously took steps forward, his icy blue eyes slowly canvassing the area as he's trying to gauge where they ended up this time.
His icy blue eyes stopped when he noticed something stuck to the ground, going over, he sees what appears to be a prop becoming stuck to the ground from the barnacles growing over it.
They've been there for at least months, maybe a year or two, and they've grown steadily, the theatre's become a perfect environment for them.
Theodore attempted to look at the prop closely, but the barnacles stacked their claim, that he couldn't get any closer look. He ended up turning away as Lila called to him, pointing at the walls near the stage, among the barnacles growing, Lila spotted holes.
The way they looked, Lila suggested that the holes came from a tommy gun, at least one, but with the barnacles growing over the walls, it's difficult to say for sure, she only knew that the bullet spray looked like someone meant business.
Looking at the bottom of the wall, where the bullets cascaded down, Lila saw nothing but the barnacles growing in mounds.
"Where are we?" Lila's uneasy as she looked towards Theodore with her chestnut eyes as he began investigating the rows of seats, some completely covered in barnacles.
Theodore's having problems guessing, Al didn't say much, other than they needed to come here, and that's their lot in life, that much apparent.
His eyes moving over the seats, they stopped when there's something on the ground that hadn't become overgrown with barnacles or destroyed by the saltwater.
Carefully reaching out and grabbing it, Theodore found that it's an itinerary. Faded, but he's able to make out that the famous play 'Romeo & Juliet.'
He showed this to Lila as she carefully stepped off the stage, coming towards Theodore as he looked up at the ceiling, streams of saltwater coming down from the ceiling.
"I don't know, come along, Lee, we have much to do," Theodore sighs as he ushered Lila as he went towards a set of the double doors. With his strength, he pushed his way through, the smell of rot assaulting his nose, and as he opened the doorway into the lobby, Theodore sees the ceiling completely collapsed in the centre of the lobby.
Above, he sees that there's a floor above the lobby, with something glowing in the distance, strong enough that it cast a lopsided light through the hole.
Carefully leading Lila, Theodore went around the decaying rubble, towards the entrance, everything around them in disarray, the counters caved in from the weight of the rubble, the gift shop destroyed by the cave in from another part of the floor above.
Another set of double doors, Theodore forced them open, feeling the rough barnacles pushing against his stitched shoulder, and upon pushing through, they see a large sign ahead.
It looked like the advertisement for the play, at one point, it illuminated, but it's destroyed, the glass shattered, and barnacles growing through.
Glancing above them, Theodore faintly sees the name of the theatre, PILGRIM THEATRE.
Looking up at the ceiling, Theoodore sees that there's no collapse, a large chandelier hung above, taken over the various barnacles growing, and Lila took a moment, glancing over the area with her chestnut eyes, seeing the decay and the warped benches that lined walls of the area. Covered with more barnacles than anyone cared to count.
On one of the benches, Lila sees something sitting on it, no barnacles on it, and went over to it.
She investigated what looked like a tape recorder, an old style that might've been the '40s by the way it looked.
Theodore went around what presumed once was a main street of some sort, there's stained posters showing women in revealing clothing, in French, which Theodore wasn't great with. Hammond, on the other hand, but he isn't here, but he does have an ace up his sleeve.
He called out to Lila as she's looking over the large tape recorder with the reel still inside, heavily marred by the salty air.
Turning around, Lila asked what he wanted and he motioned with his long tree-like arm, for her to come over to where he's standing, and she joined his side.
"You know French, yes?" Theodore asked if Lila knows the language.
Thoughtfully, Lila says that she knows all the curse words and insults, but she can greet and say goodbye.
"Good enough," Theodore stole a kiss from her and immediately grasped the language, filling in the blanks as he did, much to the bemusement of Lila as she's blinking with a look on her face.
Lila called him out on it and he thoughtfully asked if she didn't approve of that, he didn't mean to overstep, but Lila asked him why he kissed her, again.
Once more, he didn't answer outright, but he said that thanks to her, he knows what they're looking at: adult actresses promoting their respected plays.
It'd appear that the Pilgrim Theatre catered exclusively to adult versions of popular media, with something sticking out.
"Not my place to judge, but why are they doing everything but Shakespeare?" Lila asked why the discrepancy.
Sure, old movie theaters back home played XXX movies next to the kids' stuff, but it's a first that a theater like this had posters set up next to it advertising an adult version of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' but there's no version for the aforementioned 'Romeo & Juliet.'
Maybe even patrons want a theater experience without actresses wearing skimpy blue dresses once a while?
His icy blue eyes trying to find that answer, Theodore says that there's adult theatre experiences. Apparently, they're quite fond of thinking outside the box with their performances, borrowing from different books and series, that it surprised him that they never attempted with 'Romeo & Juliet.'
Confused, Lila wondered why everything except Shakespeare would've been off-limits, if they did an XXX performance for everything else, they even had a poster for 'Les Misérables.'
It's confusing, but Theodore ushered them along, certain he'll find their answer on their way around the area.
Arms interlocked, the two went on their latest adventure.
