It had been a few weeks since Elena came out of the coma. Every day, Elena worked on using her legs, so she'd stand up for a minute every few hours. Recently, she stopped using the wheelchair and was able to get around using crutches.

"Please! I want to be able to defend myself!" Elena begged Damon, who was making himself a drink.

"Elena, you're no longer a vampire. If you get hurt, it won't take seconds to heal. Your injury will possibly last forever." Damon objected. Elena moved around to Damon's side of the table, her hand resting on his arm.

"Damon, I want to be able to defend myself. Please. I'm more likely to die if I can't defend myself." Elena smiled, kissing him.

Damon kissed her back, smiling.

"Fine. But the moment you get hurt, we're stopping." Damon pulled away, Elena happily moving away.

"I love you Damon." Elena smiled to her boyfriend.

"I love you too, Elena." Damon loved saying that. He loved the fact that Elena was his and she was happy about it.

An hour passed. Damon, Stefan and Caroline waited outside for Elena. Behind them rested 2 tables filled with every weapon that had ever been used against a vampire.

"Shall we begin?" Elena smiled, ready to begin.

"We shall." Stefan nodded.

For the next 35 minutes, Damon taught Elena how to counteract an attack.

"So, if a vampire went to attack you, what would your best counter-attack be?" He pretended to attempt an attack on Elena.

"I would hold my arm up and use my other arm to drive a stake through their chest or stomach." Elena held her arm up and pretended to drive a stake through Damon's chest.

"Nicely done, considering you're on crutches." Damon smiled.

Caroline taught Elena how to escape being held by a vampire.

"Imagine that I'm a vampire with their humanity turned off. My arms are around your neck. What do you do?" Caroline asked, letting Elena think.

"I'd use all my strength to bend down, holding you close to my body so I can flip you onto your back." Elena dropped the crutches and flipped Caroline before picking up her crutches again.

"Damn. You still have some strength." Caroline was impressed.

Stefan taught Elena how to use some of the weapons.

"Now, obviously stakes are the most common weapon against vampires. But there is also Vervain and desiccation. Snapping a vampire's neck will just temporarily knock them out." Stefan smiled.

"Elena! Attack!" Damon yelled, pretending that Caroline was a random vampire.

Grabbing a stake, she waited until Caroline was close enough to hit. Throwing the stake, Elena watched as Caroline ducked out of the way, the stake being caught by someone else.

"Nice throw, bad landing." Caroline comforted her best friend.

"Aww. Someone needs more practice." A female spoke as she dropped the stake. Damon and Stefan recognised the voice.

"Katherine..." Stefan groaned as he and Damon turned around, seeing Katherine standing only 10 feet away.

"Get behind me, Elena." Caroline whispered as Elena got behind Caroline, gripping her crutches.

"Caroline, take Elena inside." Damon spoke, worried.

"No. I'm staying here." Elena stood her ground.

"Look at you. You must be Elena. You made a stupid mistake by taking the cure." Katherine laughed.

"Shut up." Damon growled.

"Shall we take this inside and act like adults?" Stefan asked, trying to stay calm.

"I'll act like an adult if Damon does." Katherine smirked.

Everyone went inside. Elena and Damon sat on the couch closest to the study, a glass of water in Elena's hand. Katherine sat opposite the couple, unable to stop looking at her doppelgänger.

As for Stefan and Caroline, they remained a safe distance from Katherine .

"It's nice to meet you, Elena. I'm Katherine." Katherine smiled.

Elena couldn't believe that she and Katherine looked exactly the same. The only real difference between them was their styles of clothing and the hair.

Elena styled herself to look normal, like a human.

Katherine styled herself to look like a badass vampire. She clearly wanted to intimidate her enemies and possible allies.

"Why are you here, Katherine? No one wants you here." Damon growled.

"That's a bit rude, even for you." Katherine smiled.

"I've been on the run from Klaus for over 500 years. But, now that he's gone, I'm back in Mystic Falls. I think I might stay here." Katherine explained.

"For how long?" Stefan asked, concerned.

"Indefinitely." Katherine knew that her answer would bother both Damon and Stefan.

She knew that with a little bit of time, she could separate Damon from Elena and Stefan from Caroline. She knew exactly how to rile up the Salvatore brothers. She might've also known how to rile up Elena and Caroline as well. Only time would tell.
