The fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan was brutal, though neither had fought in years, it was as if they had never stopped. Every clash of their lightsabers, every movement, every thought process it mirrored one anothers only Anakin's were darker, Obi-Wan could now see just how much Anakin was willing to give up for his family, but he could also see that it was far to late and he could not be saved.
The end of the fight ended with Anakin limbless, clinging for dear life to the bank of the lava river. This destroyed Obi-Wan. "You were the chosen one! Even after you left the order, we all had faith in you!" He called out, he was so heartbroken he had tried so hard to fight back the tears. "It was said that you would destroy the sith not join them!" he yelled again, just completely shattered.
Anakin looked up at him, his eyes burning yellow and pain in his face, fear in his eyes. What had he become? "I HATE YOU!" he yelled. Anakin was gone, Anakin was lost and all because he wanted to keep his family safe.
That broke Obi-Wan's heart even more, though he knew that was not Anakin speaking. That was someone else. "You were my brother Anakin, I loved you!" he called out once again, before leaving. He couldn't sit there and watch Anakin die.
Going back to the ship, he saw Padme still unconscious on the floor and lifted her up in his arms, carrying her to the ship. He was dreading the moment she woke up because he had to tell her that he had failed. He had failed, Anakin, he had failed her and he had failed the children.
She lay on the bed and opened her eyes slightly, "Obi-Wan?" She whispered out. "Is Anakin alright?" She whispered before passing out once more.
Back on Tatooine, Padme lay in bed as Beru kept the children distracted. Obi-Wan and Owen around her. "Is she going to make it?" Owen asked him.
Obi-Wan clenched his jaw, he could feel she was dying, he didn't know why but he could feel her life force draining out of her. The guilt that overcame him was unbearable. "No…" he whispered out. "Anakin was too strong for her…" He said again, dropping his head slightly.
Owen clenched his jaw and sighed slightly, this was horrendous. "This isn't your fault Obi-Wan. This isn't anyone's fault apart from the Sith." He said simply. "Anakin did what he thought was right and you did all you could to save him."
"Yes but I made a promise to him, all those years ago, that I would always be there for him. That I wouldn't fail him and now, now I have done much worse than that. Not only have I failed him, but I have failed Padme and his children." He said softly.
"The children will be taken care of. Beru and I will take full responsibility for them."
"The next few years are going to be so hard, Owen. They will have lost a mother and a father."
"And it is not something I am quite prepared for, but I made a promise too and I intend on keeping that promise." He said softly.
"I need a moment." Obi-Wan said before leaving and then heading outside. Running his hand through his hair, before breaking down.
"Is my daddy coming home?!" Leia asked him from behind. That had only made him stop crying and turn to her. She didn't even need an answer. "That bad man hurt him didn't he? He's not coming home is he?" She asked, her bottom lip quivering.
Obi-Wan bowed his head slightly. "No, Leia. He's not coming home." He whispered, regretfully. Leia's lip quivered more and more as the silent tears fell down her face. Wiping them she watched as Obi-Wan stepped closer to her. "But you promised me. You promised me you would bring him home." She said, in a broken voice.
"I know and I am so sorry that I have failed you. Failed all of you." He said honestly, bending down in front of her. "But I need you to know that your father is a good person, the best person I knew and he did what he did to protect you. To protect all of you because he loves you so much."
"But, I'm never going to see him again…" She whispered out. "And I know Padme is dying too." She said, wiping her cheeks again. Though Padme was her mom, she hadn't called her mom yet.
Obi-Wan clenched his jaw and let out a sigh. "Yes, Padme is dying too." He whispered, almost brokenly. "You are going to stay here with your aunt and uncle now."
"But I don't want to stay with them, I want to stay with my daddy." She said letting out a sob.
"I'm so sorry, Leia." He whispered, pulling her close.
Luke sat with his mother after being told the news. This was going to be so hard, each twin was mourning the loss of a parent they have known all their lives and a parent they had never had the chance of meeting properly. "Please don't die momma." He whispered, taking her hand. "I need you." He added again. Padme stirred slightly before waking up ever so slightly.
"Luke…" She whispered out. "I'm so sorry Luke." She whispered again, reaching for his hand.
"Momma please." He whispered again.
"I love you so much Luke. You and your sister." She whispered.
"I love you too, momma." He said as a small tear fell down his cheek.
"Take care of each other, okay? Promise me you will always protect one another."
"I promise momma." He whispered, before watching his mother fall back asleep again, for the final time.
Weeks had passed, Padme had been buried on Naboo, Luke and Leia were officially living with Owen and Beru and Anakin had been reformed into his new Sith self, Darth Vader. Obi-Wan had changed his name to Ben and had gone into hiding on Tatooine so he could still watch over the twins, but his guilt and his pain was unbearable.
Beru and Owen struggled getting through to Luke and Leia sometimes because they were still mourning, they had lost so much at such a young age. "I can't bear this." Beru whispered to Owen as they watched the twins comfort each other in the living room.
"This isn't the way it is supposed to be." Owen whispered. "This isn't fair," he added.
"We have to do right by them, Owen. They come first now. Always." Beru told him.
"Always." Owen added again.
The galaxy was in sadness, just like it had been before except worse. They had lost Padme, the sith had won once more and now there was a new dark lord to fear. Hope really had been lost.
