It's been an eventful, few weeks, with the addition of Catherine as David's companion, the man's got someone who isn't afraid to bend his ear and call him out for everything he did during his adventures, that he's regretting her coming with him, but he won't say it aloud, not with Catherine ready to hurt him at every step of the way.
Jenny had a good laugh meeting her, said that she liked Catherine, and happy someone's keeping David out of trouble for her when he's not home.
As it stands, Catherine isn't regretting her decision moving on from her life as a princess.
She's thrilled!
Unlike Lila who stumbled as an unwitting companion when she was first kidnapped by the TARDIS, Catherine embraced the lifestyle immediately, which is more than Lila was able to when she got the job.
Oh yes, Catherine's on track being one of the most active companions that Lila's aware of, having no worries of rent and someone like Hammond as a boss does that.
It'd also seem Catherine isn't innocent in causing trouble, she'd cause some more than once because she wouldn't accept anything less, and because she wasn't letting anyone talk down to her, as she dealt with when she was home.
Speaking of, Mary's been married off and miserable, as Catherine hoped.
Her plan backfiring on her, Mary's dealing with the repercussions of her actions, and knows that she can't do a damn thing about it, unless she tells the horrible truth to everyone in her court, and gets her head lopped off as punishment for her misdeeds.
That's a quick update on the happenings over the course of the weeks, nothing new on Lila's end, she's been doing what she does best, running from death, checking books in and out at the library, and having to keep the kitchen aboard the TARDIS constantly stocked just to ensure that they have something to eat when they have another inevitable layover.
Yeah, the Doctors in that big honking book says to keep the TARDIS sufficiently stocked with food in case they end up somewhere they can't eat anything without dying horribly or bringing home "friends," but the problem comes when there's an aloof giant with a stomach that makes cows look modest, and that's Lila being modest!
Apparently, that's a common trait among the Doctors, going by what Al says, they develop abnormally high in calories, appetites the moment they settled into their roles.
Compensates them running for their lives and doing death defying stunts to get adventures done.
Keeps them lean, of course, but their appetites knows no bound, henceforth the tidbit about keeping the TARDIS stocked while they're traveling through inter-dimensional space and time.
So, not only is much of the money going to rent, but keeping the TARDIS stocked!
Theodore's helping with keeping the TARDIS stocked, since he eats most of the food, anyway, and he made sure to include fresh ingredients, aboard, too, for Lila, whenever she cooks.
Feels like she's on some cooking show the amount of food she's cooked in the kitchen, all that food that Lila made before Theodore inevitably ate it all!
Well, mom always said the way into a man's heart is through his stomach, but the way it's looking, that's not going to happen for a longtime.
Damn Time Lord genetics, Theodore can power through more food than a professional eater at those competitions, and he doesn't have one inch on his waist.
At least Theodore looks better when he's eating, not the people who shove food into their mouths like they haven't eaten for a couple of centuries.
That's something, and, he's at least nice enough to share his spoils with Lila.
…
Another day, another day off.
Today's day-off isn't Lila'S usual, she's over at Theodore's "flat" taking care of his ferrets and keeping the TARDIS company while he's at work, dealing with Hammond.
His landlady's out of town now, leaving his ferrets on their own until he gets home, so Lila agreed to watch them on her day-off.
For ferrets, they're nicer, respectful, and Al's helping keep them under control until the aloof giant gets home.
"Don't forget, Ben's coming by to pick up the typewriter," Al reminded Lila that Theodore repaired the typewriter belonging to Ben the other day and the actor's supposed to come by for it sometime today.
After a few months, Theodore's warmed up to Ben, despite playing tricks every now again, he's nice enough to help fix a stubborn typewriter for the actor, a symbol that the aloof giant isn't mean spirited as he looks.
… Or Odette got on his case again and repairing the typewriter's just another way of him absolving his guilt.
It's a struggle remembering these things.
"Yeah, yeah, on the top of the bookcase in his room," Lila recalled Theodore telling her that he had the typewriter situated on his bookcase in his bedroom.
He forgot to move out into the den, but Lila doesn't mind going into his room to get it, it isn't like his room's the entrance to Fort Knox, and she's respectful not to poke around his room.
"It's not rigged to go off, is it?" Lila looked towards Al, wearing a milky smoker's jacket with green stitched pants, as he stood near the kitchen island, while the ferrets watched the TV behind them.
Chuckling, Al says that he watched Theodore, the typewriter isn't rigged with anything, Theodore wouldn't do something like that, not to an old typewriter like that.
Her brow raised as she's unconvinced, Lila brought up the multiple times Theodore's prone to tricking poor Ben for his own amusement, but Al swears that this time, there's no tricks.
Theodore's warmed up to Ben enough that he undertook fixing his dad's typewriter as a birthday present, he won't do something like that.
Hearing context that it's a birthday gift to Ben's father, Lila accepted that perhaps, just this once, Theodore doesn't have any tricks up his sleeves, for now, that is.
"I don't know, he seems pretty relaxed around Ben, I think he trusts him," Al swears that Theodore's starting to trust Ben, despite his initial reactions, based on what he overheard.
Blinking, Lila says that it isn't surprising, Odette likes Ben, and Theodore won't do anything to affect it, unless of course Ben does something to Odette, then both Theodore and Hammond's coming after him.
Someone like Ben doesn't stand a chance against Theodore and Hammond if he did anything to Odette, but from talking to Ben herself and getting the general feel, it seems that Ben's decent, and not snobby as she thought he would've been, because of his accent.
Odette seems to trust him, but she hadn't gotten the chance to talk about the elephant in the room, they've been busied with their projects, at least what Lila knows from talking with the woman whenever she showed up to the library to speak with her brothers.
If there was anything amiss, Lila would've picked up on it, but from where she stands, Ben's a good judgement of character, whether he'll freak out when Odette tells him the truth, it's hard to say, but Lila's crossing fingers for Odette's sake.
Should it fail, well, Lila bought some popcorn kernels and mixed up a thing of personal seasonings for them, she's got nowhere to be, better than what's on the TV, now.
"What time?" Lila asks Al as he turned his head to watch the TV, the ferrets watching David's show, helmed by a different actor, as he responded that Theodore told him he'll be by before he gets home.
Ben'll text Theodore when he's on his way and they'll go from there.
Walking around as she's preparing herself something to eat, Theodore gave her permission to go through his kitchen, and she's been here a couple of hours, warranting a snack.
Starlight's been great helping Lila find all the ingredients in the aloof giant's kitchen for something simple, ramen, complete with fixings.
Not the kind that have packets of powder with more sodium than a salt mine, Lila's got the mixings for a homemade ramen broth that's better than what comes out of a styrofoam cup.
Sitting on the edge of the counter, helping her count as she's cutting up the mushrooms, Starlight's eyes twinkled as she's talking to Lila.
Yes, talking.
As in conversing.
Well, it's not the weirdest thing Lila's done these last few months, so that said, conversing with one of Theodore's ferrets isn't the strangest.
Weird talking to a ferret that sounds like Audrey Hepburn, though!
"Believe me, I know," Lila's talking to Starlight about her brothers and their antics.
Lila's dealt with Billy and Ethan's antics, she knows it well.
Nodding as her little eyes glistened under the kitchen light, Starlight says that it's a miracle that she hadn't turned gray yet, with everything her brothers put her through.
Sighing, Lila says that it's par course for them.
"I even have to clean up after Theo!" Starlight laments that Theodore wasn't safe from this, leaving his shirts everywhere, poor Starlight having to pick them up from the floor with her little paws and put them in the dirty clothes bin.
She further added that it didn't make sense for him simply not wearing a shirt, it's almost common for him walking around without one on!
… Theodore doesn't wear shirts when he's home?
Well, it's his home, that's a given, but the mere fact that it's Theodore of all people's another thing entirely, considering his nature.
Starlight says it's a daily occurrence.
The things one learns unintentionally while ferret sitting.
Shaking her head as she's slowly bringing the broth to a boil, Lila decided not to say anything, and never bring it up with Theodore, ever.
A list, that is.
"I mean, that's not the worst thing," Al brought up as he tapped his cigarette against the phantom ashtray.
Knowing Al as Lila did, she immediately stated, "I don't need to know what his parents did. I think I got the concept after finding the umpteenth card."
Don't need a reminder of Card #4.
Shaking his head, Al gestures as he says it's not about Medi and Sarah, again.
Theodore has a habit of snoring, loud.
"With his honking nose, are you surprised?" Lila wasn't shocked hearing this, the only reason she didn't hear his snoring's because of the insulated rooms on the TARDIS whenever they had layovers and needed to sleep.
Besides, Al says it himself, he can deafen himself when needed, he doesn't have to listen to Theodore snoring.
Shrugging his puffy shoulders, Al says Lila had a point while he put out the cigarette in the phantom ashtray.
"Did I mention he also sleep talks?" Al brought up that Theodore's prone to sleep talking and the things he says, might shock Lila.
Starlight said something to Al and he responded that talking about football (soccer) isn't the only thing Theodore talks about.
"Besides, you and the other critters sleep like the dead!" Al swatted the air as he stated the ferrets couldn't have listened to Theodore all night.
Stirring the boiling pot of broth as she readied the noodles, Lila asks him what exactly does the aloof giant talk about in his sleep.
A mischievous grin on his face, Al began telling Lila all the things the aloof giant mutters in his sleep, that only seems to happen depending on the day.
It sounded like Theodore talks to himself, on occasion, and Lila thought it was something to do with his Time Lord side, but Al didn't think so, and says it sounded like Theodore's got something on the membrane, the way he always talks about something.
"Okay, spare the suspense, what's our spaceman talking about in his sleep?" Lila briefly eyed Al before she put the noodles in the boiling broth for a few seconds, enough to make them the right consistency she liked.
As she's putting together her tonkatsu ramen, complete with fried pork and some green onions, Lila heard not Al's response, but a knock at the door.
"Al, psst," Lila waved to him and he went to check who's at the door before telling her it's Ben.
Guess he came early.
"Hold on!" Lila called to Ben as she put aside her ramen, going towards the door as Al dissipated.
Opening the door, Lila sees the stocky Ben waiting for her, wearing an outfit that's akin to someone who rolled out of bed and decided on something casual like a loose t-shirt and navy-blue jogger pants.
"Theo still at work?" Ben questioned if Theodore's still at work and Lila affirmed that he is, she's watching the ferrets for him, because of course she is.
Letting him in, Ben immediately smelled the ramen, commenting on it, before Lila sharply tells him that it's her lunch until Theodore gets home.
Catching herself, after spending countless adventures on an empty stomach it's gotten to her, Lila apologized, before elaborating that she didn't make enough for two.
"I'm ready to get something myself," Ben commented as he scratched the side of his face as he walked through the flat, catching sight of the ferrets watching Telly, the one with the white face sitting on the counter.
Lila tells him that she'll get the typewriter for him, eying Starlight, and telling the ferret to keep her little paws off the ramen.
Going through the hall adjacent to the kitchen, Lila went into Theodore's bedroom, nothing out of place, the man's got movie and music posters and hanging photos of him and his family.
The man's got enough bookcases in his bedroom that he has his own library.
Filled to the brim with enough books he'll have plenty to last him a century.
Her chestnut eyes glanced around until she found the typewriter situated on the bookcase, as Theodore said, going over to it, and grabbing it.
Heavy, but nothing she can't lift herself, and she went out of the bedroom with it, closing the door behind her.
"One typewriter, coming right up!" Lila called out to Ben, as she walked out to the kitchen, holding the typewriter.
Blinking, Lila glimpsed around, Ben nowhere in sight, and she would've known he gone into the bathroom, the door's still open.
Glimpsing around, Lila asks Starlight where Ben went, only for Starlight to tell her… Ben went into the TARDIS.
Panicking as she sat the typewriter down, Lila rushed towards the nondescript door in the kitchen that nobody suspected leading into the TARDIS, as she did, the door behind closed on her, and the TARDIS turned on by itself.
