The bell rings softly in the student's ears, signaling that it was time for lunch. Mifuyu looks up from her history book and notes, filing away the items into her book bag after standing up from her assigned seat. It had only been a couple of hours and she was already feeling tired. Maybe taking small cat naps in the middle of the day wasn't necessarily ideal when attending a night school. As Mifuyu was making her way to the hallway, her instructor stopped her by tapping her shoulder. She turns around, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"Satomi-san, I have noticed you have been faltering in your grades lately in this class."
Attempting to not roll her eyes in displeasure, the ravenette sets down her school bag by a nearby empty desk. "I haven't noticed that my grades have slipped," Mifuyu responds, admittedly not sounding too concerned with the unfortunate news. "You have been focusing on your law and government classes I presume? Wanting to be a lawyer, yes?" The instructor asks before sitting down in his chair.
"Not a lawyer, sir. An investigative reporter." Mifuyu corrects him.
"Ah, yes. I understand you are very much eager to graduate and continue your career path. But please understand the other classes and assignments matter as well. I know this probably is not your favorite class, but…" He trails off, taking off his glasses to wipe the dust particles off of them. "How do you think you did on this test?" The teacher asks, putting his glasses back on. Mifuyu took a deep breath and shifted her feet slightly, trying to peel her eyes away from this conversation.
"I would say I did alright, I guess." Mifuyu nervously predicts and then looks at him again.
He sighs. "Well, with the uncertainty in your voice you don't sound so sure. I just wanted to let you know how your grades have been holding up. You are dismissed, Satomi-san." Mifuyu does a small bow, and exits the classroom with a soft, "Thank you." Mifuyu pulls out her cheap bento box and starts to head over to the dining area until she paused after passing a classroom with its door open. Going backward, she peeks inside to see one of the science labs. Tables aligned the room left to right, also having sinks built into them. It was dark, the only light it had was the bright full moon glowing outside. A chalkboard had also been in use. Several formulas, reminders- and notes for the previous class. Mifuyu looks behind her shoulder and steps inside the room, gently shutting the sliding door behind her, engulfing her into darkness. It wasn't necessarily a suffocating space, it was quiet, and the light from the moon isn't too bad either.
"Maybe I'll just have lunch here."
Mifuyu then sits in the further corner of the chemistry lab and opens up her bento box. It is a stereotypical lunch after all. She begins to munch on her small bits of chicken quietly while she scrolls through her phone. Mifuyu then checks the school's news outlet to see if anything interesting was going on but there wasn't. She then looks to her right to look outside the window. "The moon sure is pretty like this. With no other lights, too."
It was like it had a small blue tint to it. Everlasting beauty and glow. Never ceasing to amaze her whenever it rises into the sky and descends to let their brother arrive to take over. The silence continues to fill the room as Mifuyu proceeds to look outside, now stargazing. She remembers how peaceful it was to count how many constellations were in the sky with her father. There would be so many big dippers and little dippers, the occasional brightest star, and the more fancy shapes. Aside from what her dad did, astronomy did interest him a lot and Mifuyu picked that up as well. She always wondered if that's what he wanted to be instead of also being an investigative reporter. He did love what he did, however. Catching bad people and putting them into prison working so closely with the police, and always so protective of his sisters and her.
Even if Mifuyu wasn't related to him by blood, she still considered him family.
The female student does a heavy sigh, unconsciously moving her left hand to her school bag while still stargazing to touch the black scarf, tied around her handle. Suddenly, she hears someone walking outside the hallway. Quickly and quietly, Mifuyu maneuvered her bento box out of view by shoving it in the corner of a desk, got out of the seat, and hid underneath the desk. She didn't want to get another lecture and she'd be damned she would get in trouble over something this trivial.
"Why was this door closed? I thought I left this open…"
It was a voice she didn't recognize. Mifuyu knew it was a student just by how they sounded. "That damn Sakamaki thinks he's better than me…?" A girl? The voice was still unfamiliar to her but it piqued the ravenette's curiosity as to why she was in here ranting about the Sakamaki family. Then again, Mifuyu didn't necessarily like any of them either.
"I'll show him… to snitch on me like that without helping me with my work." She sounded vengeful to Mifuyu and this took all the willpower in the world to not snort at her attempts to sound intimidating. The next thing Mifuyu knew, she couldn't tell what the strange girl was doing. A lot of grunts and mumbles were heard before she huffed saying, "That'll do it!" And then shifts around to grab her bag, withdrawing from the laboratory. Waiting a few seconds to make sure she didn't come back, Mifuyu came out of her hiding spot and shortly jogged out of the room to avoid getting in another hassle.
As she was doing a small jog across the hallway with her handbag close to her, the ravenette walks down the steps and spots another teacher at the bottom. The short-haired brunette looked up to see a frazzled student and did a small giggle. "Where did you come from, Satomi-san? The bathroom?" Mifuyu sighs in relief and sits on the third step, looking up at her. "Mrs. Saotome. It's good to see you." She laughs, grinning.
"Nah, I was somewhere where I, uh…" Mifuyu stumbles and lowers her voice. "I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be and had to avoid the trouble." She finishes and Saotome blinks down at her, doing a small giggle. "Avoiding others again?" The brunette asks and sits with her. Mifuyu sighs, nodding.
"Pretty much. It hasn't been that great of a night. How about you?" Saotome shrugs, looking up at the ceiling.
"It's been normal as always down here. Had one or two students get in trouble recently by skipping class but, it is your standard after all." She takes a small sip of her clear bottled water and sets it down beside her.
"How come your night isn't going so well, Mifuyu?"
"Probably flunked a fucking test."
It spits out of her like poison. She didn't mean to sound harsh, but now it can't be capped in. "I've been focusing on what I want to do whenever I leave this boring-ass school, but it's so hard. A couple of my instructors are on my ass about my grades and how I shouldn't just-" Mifuyu puts up two of her fingers, bending them in and out as quotation marks. " 'Hyperfocus on one class.' 'Have to focus on all of them so I can graduate.'" She finishes with a mocking tone, rolling her silver eyes.
Silence.
"Mifuyu…" Saotome gently places her hand on the students, making her look at the instructor.
"Everything will be okay, alright? You're gonna pass and if you ever need help, you know you can always come to me. I've helped you throughout your second-year, with all of…" She pauses, clearing her throat.
"Yeah. I know." Mifuyu cuts her off, now sounding more relatively calm than earlier. She takes a deep breath and clutches the black scarf again, staring at it.
"How has your...anger management been going?"
"It's okay, I guess,"
Mifuyu replies, her wavering silver eyes looking into Saotome's brown hues. "It helps that I have more people to talk to. Dad always did say that I needed to work on it…"
"So did he, Mifuyu. He did wonderfully and I know you'll pass that management with flying colors." Saotome's cheerful voice rang right as soon as the bell did, interrupting any more conversation topics to be had. She then stands, brushing off her dress.
"I feel like you need to have some fun every once in a while. Sooo," Pausing, she takes out a flyer from her coat pocket and hands it to the adolescent.
"...there's a festival coming up. I know there aren't very many students here. But I and my homeroom decided we could plan a big party for Halloween since the moon will be full that night. It's in seven to eight weeks. I know, but-"
"Mrs. Saotome." Mifuyu cuts her off again, but with a smile. "I'll go. It...sounds like fun. I need a break." She says triumphantly, folding the flyer and putting it in her shirt pocket. The instructor claps in excitement.
"Splendid!" Students were now starting to file in the halls and Mifuyu stands, waving her off.
"Go on- I don't want you to be late, teach!" She jests and Saotome does a laugh, walking off into the crowd. Mifuyu returns up the staircase but almost yells in frustration. She keeps it to herself and decides to internally scream:
I forgot my damn bento box!
...
2:00 AM.
Another night, another boring night. The last bell had rung and Mifuyu leaned back in her chair to stretch, grunting slightly and yawning. She then stands from her desk, grabs her school bag, and exits her classroom after waiting for the majority of the students to file out. The ravenette waltzes a couple of flights of stairs and hallways before finally reaching the fourth floor, where her history class and the science lab she ate her lunch in was. As she turns to her left after reaching the top of the stairs, she smells...a strange substance. Raising an eyebrow, she walks towards the smell cautiously and peaks in, prying open the sliding door.
"Oh fuck…!" Mifuyu abruptly puts her arm over her nose and mouth. It smelt like lavender. However, it did not take long for her body to reject and send alarm bells. Huge red flag. Highly toxic. As she tried to make out where her bento box to see, as it was already difficult to see in the smoke- she saw a tall figure. Not caring who it was, the ravenette started to cough violently.
"What...are...you...doing!?"
Another violent hack, her knees were quick to not hold her for very long. She couldn't see, breathe- but not only that. Someone was in there! But she didn't hear any coughing or hacking, right? With her eyes shut, her weak body tries to make her way out of the classroom before being picked up, light as a feather. As if she was weightless. She doesn't take into account how fast she got out of there that quickly. Her eyes continued to stay squeezed shut until she didn't feel the smoke on her face. Taking a shot in the dark, Mifuyu slowly opens her eyes-
KABOOM!
Mifuyu squeezes her eyes shut again and clutches whatever is close to her, that being a built figure holding her. Whoever it was gripped her so tightly, it sends her to fight or flight. A sudden swift hand goes up to strike whoever it is that has her in their clutches, hearing the skin smack against each other- but a grunt isn't heard. She did hit something, sounding like glasses. As she feels herself being lowered to the ground, Mifuyu snaps open her eyes to see...a blur. The ravenette couldn't see a thing. Delirious and still out of it, she struggles out of the embrace but ends up passing out.
…
"Mmgh…" Mifuyu regains consciousness after what seems like an eternity. Her vision does take a second to recompose its focus until she hears a door gently shut on her right side. She knew she wasn't home. So...where was she?
"Oh, are you awake now?"
Mifuyu sits up and gently looks over to see...her heart drops to her stomach. This bastard.
"Good evening, Satomi-san. How do you feel?"
Third-year student; Reiji Sakamaki, the second eldest Sakamaki brother, was standing right before her.
