Chapter 6: Suppression

"I've got to admit, Leorio. That was pretty smart." Kurapika says as they run through the abandoned part of YorkNew City.

"Hehe!" Leorio gives a mock salute. "You're welcome, buddy! We're gonna save Gon and Killua in no time now. It's a good thing I asked them to keep their GPS on."

"I didn't expect it to work so well even here." Kurapika frowns.

A few minutes later, they reach a tall crumbling building. The two tense up.

"Their phones are inside." Leorio gulps.

Kurapika readies his chain and walks to the entrance.

"Are ya sure you don't want me to come?" Leorio asks.

"Yes. It'd be too dangerous for you." Kurapika calrifies.

"Damn..."

Leorio impatiently taps his foot on the ground. Damn. Damn. Damn. I can't lose another friend--

"LEORIO!"

That's Kurapika! What the hell!

Adrenaline courses through his veins, heartbeat going crazy. He ignores his fatigue as he dashes to the source of the noise-- the courtyard.

"KURAPIKA!" Ignoring the strain on his lungs, he forces the sound out and rushes to the figure hunched over the ground.

"Damn it! Kurapika! Are you oka-- hey! Are you crying?!" Leorio shakes the blond away from his thoughts.

"Leorio..." He points to two figures next to them.

His breathe stuck in his throat, his eyes widen, unable to comprehend the situation.

"Impossible." He mumbles.

But there they are-- Gon and Killua... dead.

A quiet tear slides down his cheek. He was unable to help a friend once more...

"Was that really necessary?" Gon asks quietly, scrutinizing the blonde driving.

"Be grateful we didn't actually kill you." The man gives the boy a side-glare.

"We could have at least killed the cat-eyed brat." Feitan sulks in the front passenger seat.

Gon squeezes his eyes shut, pressing himself closer to the car's door. The cool window comforts his aching head. If only... but a glance at the powerhouses around him, not to mention Chrollo himself sitting right beside him, is enough for him to mentally slap himself out of that delusion. No matter how fast he would run, they definitely would easily catch up to him... there was no doubt about it... and then...

Gon bites his lower lip to keep the sob from escaping his mouth. He feels weak. Like a helpless little fly stuck in a Spider's web... which is quite literally what he is.

The prospect of Hisoka helping him crosses him again. He knows the man isn't a nice person by any means. Calling him selfish would be an understatement... he's...

Gon shakes his head. He needs to focus on the main question. He knows Hisoka can probably find a way to get him and Killua out... even just Killua would do... The Spiders are strong. Extremely so. They are leagues above Gon. But Hisoka just still seems to be on a completely level. Chrollo could probably-- no, definitely-- compare... after all, Hisoka won't be hanging around the troupe if they were super weak... but he's not so sure about the others.

Anyways, the main question... why would Hisoka help him? Gon knows. With the Spiders, he'll get stronger a lot faster... and that's exactly what Hisoka wants, isn't it? For him to get strong enough to provide him with a good fight. So... is there even any reason for Hisoka to help him?

None. Gon draws a blank. He can tell begging him for help won't work. He doesn't want to stoop that low either. What else then?

Kurapika and Leorio. He wonders whether they have found the fake conjured corpses already. They would only last a little while-- at least that's what he heard them saying... so was it even worth it? The cheery blond-- what's his name again?-- took and messed with his phone earlier. After that he gave Chrollo his phone and they just left. By the looks of it, the cheerful blond seemed a hundred percent sure that someone would bite the bait...

Why would they leave that there to make sure the chain user doesn't come after them? Don't they want to kill him? Wait... why would our corpses deter the chain user? What am I missing?

Gon eyes the Chrollo sitting beside him, his eyes stuck to the book on his lap. He gulps. Should I ask him... or not?

"About time you caught up, Gon." Chrollo looks up and smiles.

"What are you talking about?" Gon demands.

"Aren't you confused as to why we would leave your fake corpses behind to bait the chain user?" Chrollo asks.

"I was... just going to ask you that," Gon says, confused.

The smile on the man's lips darkens, while his eyes remain the ever empty void of misery. Gon forces himself to not look away.

"Your friend told us who the chain user is. Do you know?"

Gon shakes his head.

"It's your friend, Kurapika."

Four simple words and his mind starts to spin. Kurapika? Kurapika is the chain user? Now that he gives it more thought, it makes sense. But that's not the real problem! Spiders... they must have left a few Spiders behind with the corpses... Damn it!

"Seems like you really didn't know, huh." Phinks' amused voice from the front snickers. "Good for you, I guess. If you'd already known..." A cracking of knuckles.

But Gon was stuck somewhere else, his mind refusing to come up with a way out. No. Kurapika. Please forget about me and Killua. I already got Killua in so much trouble... not you too...

"You can't kill Kurapika!" His brain finally grinded out, aura spiking. "It's your friend's own fault he died. Kurapika only killed him because you guys killed his clan!"

Another series of cracking knuckles and suffocating aura. "What was that brat?"

Gon balls his fists, nails digging into his palms. "You indirectly forced him to go against you. You have no right to be upset when he manages to make some progress."

Another wave of aura joins the onslaught. The familiarity chills Gon to the bone. But he can't give up now, not when... they might end up killing Kurapika. No way he's gonna let them do that!

"Phinks." A low malice-filled voice. "Stop the car."

Gon clenches his jaw, biting back a whimper. Fingers feeling numb, head feeling dizzy; he wants nothing more than for the earth to swallow him whole. Anything to escape this.

"Fighting between Spiders is not allowed." Chrollo says, eyes back on the book. Not a hint of bloodlust or anything offensive. Yet, his voice is enough to completely dissolve the aura around him, not even earning a complaint.

Gon sinks further into the seat. It's gonna be a painfully long ride for sure. Worse than that, he has no idea what's going to go between Kurapika and the Spiders staying back.

"Spiders." A single word leaves Kurapika's lips, making Leorio suck in a painful breathe.

His vision turns red as four murderers step out of the shadows-- a samurai, a pink-haired lady, a big man with scars all over, and... Hisoka?

Damn it! Leorio can't use nen!

He whips around, the word 'run' lingering on his lips. Before he can unleash his chains, the pink-haired lady has Leorio tied up with In-hidden threads, a cold smile on her lips.

He reaches out to Leorio but a click sound behind him and an onslaught of bullets barrage him. He instantly activates his Ten, swinging his chains in front to catch all the bullets.

Damn Spiders--

"Don't let yourself get distracted like that, Chain Bastard!" A roar and Kurapika is forced to leap back to avoid the blade.

Dealing with the heavy bullets is one problem, but keeping that samurai in check too... Worse, the bullets are only coming for him, cleanly keeping clear of everyone else.

"Kurapika!" A strained cry from Leorio. "Look out!"

The blond's vision reddens. No matter what he will defeat the Spiders. Doesn't matter if they never died or somehow came back to life. He will make them pay.

He narrowly avoids the charging swordsman, still keeping an eye on the bullets. He must seperate the two. But he needs to stay close to Leorio too... Fine!

He enforces his body with more aura, taking a deep breathe to steady his bloodlust. Now! He leaps up in the air, diverting his chains from the bullets to the swordsman. Just need to get that sword out of his hand and it's over!

He flinches as the unhindered bullets hit him. Focus!

A swinging chain going this way and that. The swordsman easily dodges it all.

Left. Right. Right. Left.

It's a game for the man, a grin spreading across his face.

Kurapika can only see in reds now. The swordsman inches closer and closer with every attack. Until they are right in front of each other.

A malicious grin. A gleaming blade. A distant cry. All black.

[A/N: This was my first time writing a proper fight scene and I think I did okay. Criticism welcome tho.

Still studying for my exams but could not refrain from writing lol.

Lilphantomtroupelady: yeah. I love his character too. The way his potrayal changed from cold hearted and merciless to caring and kinda emotional was really good. Togashi's a big genius. Also, I'm super relieved that they don't seem OOC. Thank you for your review!

Neodigital: Same!! They are just too damn cute together. I don't ship them romantically but I'm all down for their friendship!! Thank you for reviewing
