"Isn't this area blocked off or somethin'? Someone like you shouldn't be poking your business into authority manners."
Yuma continues, shifting his right arm to rest on his hip. Mifuyu couldn't exactly lie to him since she was caught in the act. So instead of trying to cover it up she instead tries to abort the mission by walking past him without a second word but the strong vampire turns around, her back facing him.
He takes note of the notebook and pencil she was holding.
"So you wanted to go down there. That it?"
Mifuyu glances at him over her shoulder raising an eyebrow in suspicion. Wondering why he was so casual about this encounter. It isn't like every day some student purposely walks along with a crime scene. She faces him and huffs in annoyance, tapping her foot.
"Yeah. Is that a problem?"
"Not really. I was curious myself how bad the damage was."
Mifuyu almost did a double-take, blinking twice at his remark. "C-Curious..!? Why the interest in seeing a basement of all things?"
"I could be saying the same thing to you too, Mifuyu." Yuma remarks as the younger girl swallows in nervousness, attempting to make haste at sealing her lips shut.
Her silver blades do look down at the pink shiny tile floor trying to escape the situation but nothing came to mind. He was going to keep asking her questions until she cracked. Mifuyu wasn't sure if Yuma was really the type to tattle on her to the headmaster. Ditching classes was something she did at times but wanting to enter a crime scene that she had no part of? It would most likely get her suspended. Perhaps that is what the Mukami was after. Blackmail, oh definitely she says in her train of thought. Sneaky guy...always knew he was one for-
"I'll pick open the lock for ya if you let me come down there."
It was like an avalanche giving way to the loudest of noises. "You...what!? Why would you- no, why would I-?!"
"Grahh, shut up!" Yuma quiets down the adolescent in a hushed angry whisper. "Do you want someone hearing us? Or do you wanna see what's fuckin' down there?"
Mifuyu bites her lip, agitated that this was happening. School wasn't even over yet and tonight was only going to get worse from here apparently, she thought. Begrudgingly she stalks up close to the apricot haired student, raising her eyebrows even more in suspicion.
"Since when did you have that kind of talent?" She whispers.
Yuma chuckles backing away from her to preserve his private bubble. "Ya don't know a damn thing about me and I'll keep it that way. Let's just say I know my way around things." He goes back to the basement door and digs in his pockets to pull out a measly paper clip. The door handle on the basement had a small enough lock, to begin with. He carelessly throws down the caution tape to which Mifuyu made a sound of disgust.
"You're certainly not being subtle..!" Mifuyu nags, still trying her best to be quiet.
"Just watch and learn, freckles."
The adolescent was about to verbally violate that statement until the Mukami started to mess with the lock of the door, grunting sometimes in frustration. But eventually, he does unlock it, creaking it open. He looks back at her with a toothy grin.
Mifuyu rolls her eyes and walks past him. "C'mon let's make this quick."
"W-Wha?!" Yuma semi shouts, carefully not shutting the door all the way, and then follows her down the stairwell. "Not even a thank you! Jeez, are you women always this ungrateful?"
Mifuyu couldn't bark back another comment about her behavior because her senses were immediately overtaken by the smell of blood. She covers her nose and quickly turns on her phone for her flashlight, scanning the area. The corpses had been disposed of but the remaining evidence was all in the clear for them. Now examining the room more thoroughly, blood was splattered all over the concrete floor and some of its walls too, were dyed a deep shade of crimson. In fact, it did not look like fresh blood anymore- more so black than anything. The smell was horrible. The tiny window not only gave little justice to the moon's light outside but could barely open to release some of the stench.
The ravenette is careful where she walks not trying to leave some of her own footprints behind. Yuma shoves his hands into his pockets while standing on the last step also looking around the basement. Since this school was well-funded, the basement did not look like a straight-up dungeon but nothing to write home about it either. It was full of shelves that aligned some walls near the back where it held most of the previous students' records of graduation, taxes, and some other tools for the courtyard and greenhouse. The murder took place in the center of the room so nothing of value was tainted by blood for what it looked like.
"Is there a light in here or somethin'?"
Yuma asks, eyes still looking around. He could see in the dark after all so there wasn't much need to pull out his own cell-phone. Mifuyu doesn't respond to his question. She was examining the main blood splatter on the tile floor and blood splotches across the walls, then tracing her eyes up the window.
"The murderer obviously wouldn't have come through this window…" Mifuyu mumbles to herself as she scribbles this down and looks around some more.
"It's way too small for someone to fit through. An animal could get in here if it was shoved open a little bit more but...it would break it." Another note was taken and she blinks. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. They must have come from the school and got down here…"
"Earth to Satomi? Hello? You gonna tell me what you think? You keep walkin' around this much you're gonna get yourself in trouble."
Mifuyu flashes her light at the vampire and he yelps out, covering his eyes. "What the fuck, man?!"
"Try to find a light. Do that or leave." Mifuyu then returns to her investigation.
"Tch, like I'm gonna fucking leave…" Yuma mutters and finds himself doing what she told him to do. He searches behind the staircase, rolling his eyes around. He couldn't leave. Not only because of what he originally set out to do but now since this human was involved somehow or rather, purposely put herself in this situation, he couldn't pass up the hilarity of that. Who did she think she was? Sherlock Holmes?
"Ehh…" Yuma spots a small switch in the very corner of the large concrete staircase and rubs his temples. "Why would they put it all the way back here?" He asks himself and quickly flicks it on which startles Mifuyu slightly. They're both enveloped in a shallow light. It wasn't bright but it'll do. But now the crime scene was in crystal clear view for both of them.
It visibly does bother Mifuyu for a moment but she closes her eyes and shuts off her flashlight.
"So, detective. Ya gonna tell me any theories? Allegations? Hehh?"
Mifuyu sighs and shakes her head. "This is a private situation I would like to deal with by myself. You know, alone?"
"Tsk, well since I unlocked that door for you, you need to tell me what you think. It ain't that hard. It isn't like you're a real one anyway." Yuma mutters that last part. Mifuyu catches wind of this and snaps her notebook shut, opening her eyes.
"They didn't come from the window and it wasn't an animal. Someone might have invaded the school and came here." Mifuyu says, putting her pencil in the spine of her notebook. Yuma shrugs and looks at the window.
"Oookay, makes sense. What if it was a student or somethin?"
"I don't know. It could be. Two students were murdered so it might be another student, a faculty member, anyone." Mifuyu stares at the blood, one hand going to her arm and clutching it.
Yuma then looks back at the ravenette and withdraws his hands from his pockets, crossing his own built arms. "Heh, they were slaughtered like pigs weren't they?" Mifuyu takes a sharp breath, wanting to shut down that comment but couldn't deny he was right. They were.
"...And drained of blood," Mifuyu adds an albeit in a low tone.
Yuma raises an eyebrow and then does a quick annoyed expression, putting a hand behind his back. I gotta be careful what I say. She has no idea what's in front of her fuckin' face.
"Do you have a theory why the victims were drained of blood?"
Yuma looks at the student in front of him, halting the scratching of his head. He blinks a few times and clears his throat. "I dunno, detective. You are the one who's' supposed to find this stuff out, right?"
"I guess a second opinion wouldn't hurt," Mifuyu says. Her dad always asked second opinions at work or so he told her.
"Well, uh...I dunno. I'm not exactly the type for this stuff. But maybe uh…" His logical side was to say a vampire did this. He knows a vampire did this. It's clearly obvious by how it was done. But did stupid humans realize that was the case? They wouldn't believe so easily. Especially this wench.
"Spit it out, come on."
"I don't know! Maybe some dude who had a thing for murdering people in bizarre ways." Yuma exclaims, stomping his foot. Mifuyu takes a few moments to process what he said. It's not entirely correct but he was on the right track...hopefully.
"That is all I can really hope for, to say the least. I mean, what else would it be?"
She turns around and starts to make her way toward the back of the room. Yuma shakes his head, placing both hands on his hips. Before the two of them could say more, the vampire hears something from behind him. Soft footsteps. He whips his head over his shoulder and cursed to himself quietly. They were halfway down the hallway.
Quickly, he grabs Mifuyu by the arm. She starts to protest before Yuma silences her by covering her mouth and shoving her in front of him to hide in a crawl space on the other side of the concrete staircase. She knew what he was doing and stopped her bickering for now. They both hear footsteps approach the basement door and walk down the stairs. They didn't see who it was. It was assumed to be a faculty member. The guy sighs and mumbles why the door keeps opening and the light being on. He goes to turn off the lights which plunges the whole basement into darkness. Then stalks up the staircase tiredly and slams the basement door.
A locking sound is heard.
Mifuyu immediately leaves Yuma's tight grip and goes up the staircase to have Yuma stop her again. "Don't do that. Guard's are probably already back up there securing it. We'll get in trouble if we go up there and knock."
She resists the urge to yell out in frustration but opts to make several expressions of over-exaggerated emotions to all which Yuma leaves speechless, smiling in nervousness a little. Running fingers through her hair, the ravenette whips out her phone from her skirt pocket and turns on the flashlight again.
"We're not going to be able to leave until the school is completely empty," Mifuyu confirms and Yuma nods.
"Shit."
Coincidently saying it at the same time as each other.
