Without much thought, the raven-haired girl scoffs and turns back around, careful not to walk on the crime scene to examine the shelves near the back. Yuma just watches her go as his eyesight was perfect enough for him to watch her walk away. He shrugs and goes back to sit down on the floor.
Mifuyu examines the shelves quietly, not finding anything too suspicious. Shaking her head, she sighs.
"I can't believe I get stuck down here. I should have been quicker about it."
She leaves the back as she uses her light off of her phone to find anything else. Nothing. Just the blood splatters and unsatisfied need crawls across her body. The vampire clicks his tongue in amusement and relaxes more.
"Nothin', you can really do bout' it right now. Might as well sit down and chill out, huh?"
Mifuyu does a displeasing sound but doesn't argue against it, going to sit down but a bit ways away from the Mukami. She puts the flashlight of her phone in between the both of them for light and brings her knees close to her chest, making direct eye contact with the blood splatter in the middle of the floor.
"None of us can really fit through that window either…" Mifuyu mumbles.
Yuma snickers at this, putting both hands behind his head. "If we could turn into animals sure." Of course, he could turn into a bat and fly out of here if he really wanted too but he couldn't. So they were going to be stuck down here until there was an opening or when school was out. The thought of that annoys him to no end.
'Why did I have to go through with this? I should have just let her get caught…' Yuma thinks, gritting his teeth in agitation.
The two awkward individuals then started to not speak to one another leaving hollowing silences in between the both of them. Both shared the thought that they were being watched by each other but to surprise they were not. Mifuyu was especially the worst at social interaction and in such an indecent situation it was even more horrendous.
An hour might have gone by already with time. Sitting in tranquility was starting to get to the taller vampire so he just exhales aggressively and lowers his arms.
"Tonight in class. You uh, were a lot more quiet than usual. Seemed freaked out too." Yuma starts, glancing at the female. "You're usually on top of things so...what's up with ya?"
Mifuyu looks at Yuma for a brief second and then back at the crime scene, feeling her eyes crinkle in irritation. "I've always been quiet in class, Yuma."
They've only known each other for a little over six months at the latest. The Mukami brothers happened to transfer to their school at the beginning of the year unannounced and soon the whole school, especially the girls, were thinking of them as eye candy. Mifuyu wouldn't get into those conversations. Starting the third year of high school and planning her future was already enough.
"Yeah? But ya usually participate in class sometimes. I don't."
"Well Yuma, maybe that's my business. Okay? I know you're gonna give me some sort of shitty pep talk and I am not in the mood to deal with that right now. So let's just be quiet, alright?"
The poison leaves Mifuyu's mouth once again before she can put a halt to it but doesn't have half the heart to take it back. She does mean half of it.
"Okay then! Jeez, always up in my ass with questions...but when I ask you one thing, you get up in mine!" Yuma angrily says and she doesn't respond. They resume the silence for about fifteen minutes.
Suddenly, Mifuyu starts to feel drowsy and places a hand on her head, rubbing it. "I think I'm gonna...fall asleep for a little bit. I don't feel too good."
Yuma quirks an eyebrow in confusion but shrugs. "Do whatever you want."
Mifuyu then leans and lays down on the ground, head facing the direction where Yuma was sitting so he didn't happen to see up her skirt. She didn't think he was the type of student to do that but...she didn't really know this guy at all. So why was she okay with him coming down here?
Not wanting to make herself angrier, she falls into a deep sleep. Feeling her body curl up out of habit.
The Mukami glances in her direction and watches her sleeping face, blinking slowly. He clicks his tongue again and groans, standing to stretch his legs. He paces around quietly shoving his hands into his pockets.
"The smell...is killing me. It ain't even good either…" He complains feeling his hands turn into fists. His throat was starting to slightly burn, scratching and begging to be satisfied with fresh human blood. Ever since Eve had been taken back by the Sakamaki's and having failed the plan set by that guy...they weren't sure what to do.
He hadn't said anything. For a while now.
Yuma tries his best not to withdraw his fist from his pocket and punch the wall. It was so frustrating. A plan given to the four of them, knowing it wasn't going to be easy, they did it anyway. Because they were saved by him. It was the least they could do.
And they fuck it all up.
Did that guy have anything to do with the murders that took place down here? It wasn't a bad theory. He was always so secretive. Even with Ruki who he considered the leader of all of them. Yuma walks over to Mifuyu's phone and shines the flashlight where the blood splatters were. His eye twitches.
"No. It couldn't have been his doing. What was I thinkin'?"
Yuma sets the phone back down and shoves his right hand back into his pocket. A vampire that was hungry did it. Extremely hungry. A pit grows in his stomach.
'If it's true that vampires don't have enough blood to keep them at bay...and we go mad...will that happen to us if we don't have Eve's blood? Or...can it be anything?' The mere thought sends shivers down his spine as he goes to look at Mifuyu.
Quickly, he looks away and then goes away from her a bit keeping the distance.
What was he thinking? Turning into a monster.
"Boo!"
A smaller girl with long black braided hair jumps out from a bush. Her eyes shut as she hisses, with a giant grin on her face.
"I got you! I got you! You're no good at this game! "
When the girl opens her eyelids, her grin becomes bigger. The mysterious child that was already freaked out by her sudden appearance rubs their head.
"Miyuu-chaan! Y-You're gonna give me a h-heart attack..!" They said, their voice sounding slightly distorted but it was apparent that it was on the younger side. Mifuyu pats their back with a small laugh, putting both fists on her hips.
"I am the greatest at hide n seek! You just need to practice!~ " She proclaims in a sing-song like voice, the mystery child doing a small chuckle.
"W-We better get back now, or else-"
"Ohh, shush. I never get time with you anymore! So we're doing all we can!" Mifuyu says as she takes their hand to lead them deeper into the forest.
"But what about-"
"I'll be fiine! That room doesn't bother me anyway." Mifuyu reassures.
"But that room would always torment you. Right, Fuyu-chan?"
The child stops in her tracks and looks over her shoulder to stare at her best friend. "Did you...say something?"
But he wasn't there.
Mifuyu was all alone in the woods. When she turns her head back around to face forward she isn't there anymore. She was staring down at the basement of Ryoutei Academy. The baggy clothes she used to wear as a child were no longer there. She was wearing her school uniform...she was older.
Then she hears screaming. Downstairs.
Startled she initially backs away until her back hits something warm. Then breathing next to her ear.
"Will you not listen to my warning?" Reiji's voice beckons. "Things that do not concern the likes of you should remain as such." Mifuyu tenses but doesn't dare turn back around. She shakes her head and goes to step forward.
"I can handle myself."
"You're nothing but a troubled child. A heathen that refuses to listen to our gospel. What makes you think you can do anything to help?" A different voice comes for her left ear and the student cringes away and bolts forward but the door suddenly disappears.
Eyes widening in confusion she is forced to turn around to see the same figure from her previous dreams stand all the way down the hallway. The whole hallway is red. She still couldn't tell who was down there. Mifuyu then becomes angry.
"I am not going to have nightmares of a four-eyed freak telling me what to do. I'm not scared of him. I'm not going to back down!"
"Four-eyes? Who is it that you're speaking to?"Her heart drops down her stomach feeling her feet drag across the floor, backward. She didn't recognize this voice at all. Not even from her past.
"Who is it that you think you're speaking to, Mifuyu Satomi?" The figure starts to get closer and closer to the ravenette. She was frozen in fear. She couldn't move. 'Why can't I move?!'
As if in a flash, whoever it was, was in front of her and a hand reached out toward her face...bats surround them...
Her eyes snap open and she sits up in fright. Breathing heavily.
Yuma even awakens from his small nap to a frazzled girl. He blinks a couple times and holds up a hand. Mifuyu gawks at him, holding onto herself for quiet comfort. "Calm down. You're still in the basement. Or did you already forget that you were down here while sleepin'?" Yuma asks, slightly joking.
Mifuyu shakes her head, catching her breath."N-No, I didn't forget. I just...had a nightmare." She admits abit too carelessly, wanting to immediately beat herself up over it.
"Nightmare? Because of what we were doin'?"
"No." Mifuyu says quickly and then thinks of her next words. "It was red...the school hallway was red."
"With blood?" Yuma asks, tilting his head.
"No. It was just red. Like a shadow...or something."
A chime is sounded. Both students look up at the door and start to hear several footsteps on top of each other. Doors opening and closing. People parting ways. Night classes were over. School was over. It only took for what seemed like an eternity. Yuma quickly stands and quietly goes up the steps to place his ear against the door. The presence of the guards next to the door had vanished. Perhaps they were watching the student body exit the school instead. He whispers down to Mifuyu, who was admittedly still in shock.
"Hey, c'mon! This is our only chance." He says. Not waiting for her to stand he swiftly stomps down the steps, grabs her phone and her hand. "Oi, wake up! You're awake now! Let's get the fuck outta here, alright?"
Mifuyu blinks her silver eyes and nods.
"Yeah! Yeah, sorry. Also, let go of me."
She snatches her hand away and her phone. Making sure she had her notebook and pencil both students silently exit the scene of the was a crowd of students filing down the steps so without any of them looking, both Yuma and Mifuyu quickly went in with the crowd and got out of the school safely without any second glances.
They both go behind the school building and breathe a sigh of relief. Mifuyu puts both hands on her knees feeling like she had just run a marathon. Even Yuma had worked up a little bit of sweat. Slowly, a grin crawled on her face and she does a hardy laugh.
"Hell yeah! We did it!" Mifuyu says, pumping a fist in the air.
"Haaah?! Why are you acting like this now?!" Yuma exclaims.
Mifuyu tried her best to bury the amount of weakness she had shown around the Mukami. To forget it ever happened. She would have to deal with that by herself later on in the morning but for right now, she was going to whatever she could to have him not-
"You really shouldn't be doing this by yourself." In her facade like of a victory, she looks at the taller student.
"Huh? What do you mean?" She asks, crossing her arms across her chest.
"Tch, I mean you shouldn't be doing that shit yourself. I know what your fuckin' doin and it's not working." He of all people should know what Mifuyu was doing. Hiding those kinds of emotions in for so long...along with his other brothers, too. Kou was the most frequent to do this.
They stare at each other for a little bit before Mifuyu feels her lip quiver but then bites it quickly, facing the Mukami.
"What? Getting into this case? I don't think you should be-"
"Ya really shouldn't either. Considering that mini panic attack you almost had back there, it's safe to say you can't do this by yourself. So I'm gonna tag along in this. I've decided." Yuma states with a determined but neutral look on his face. Mifuyu is stunned by his response and almost doesn't take him seriously but before she could protest he puts a handout.
"Even if you don't want me in your fuckin' bubble, I'll still do my own research. I'm not gettin' outta this, Satomi."
"What's in it for you then, huh?" Mifuyu asks, stepping forward to face Yuma. He grins down at her question and does another half-hearted shrug.
"Dunno if you know me enough to know that. Maybe if you tell me your reason, I can give you mine." Yuma lied, already trying to think of any possible excuses when that time comes. Mifuyu goes to respond until she is interrupted by the sound of a certain idol's voice calling out to his brother.
"Yuuma-kuun! Where have you been all night?" Kou asks with a cheeky grin.
"We thought...you might have…went home...and skipped today…" Azusa mumbles, shuffling side to side a bit.
"We didn't think you'd be with this girl of all people. So sly, Yuuma-kuuun~" Kou teases him, grin growing wider. The apricot-haired male growls and goes to potentially strangle him until they are halted by another voice.
"I don't have time for your squabbles. Yuma, you should have told me where you were going this evening." Ruki says and then looks at Mifuyu. "Are you the girl she was looking for?"
"She? Who?" Mifuyu asks. Yui then steps out from behind Ruki. Initially, she wasn't smiling but when she saw her, she did. The blonde walks over to her and sighs in relief.
"I'm so glad I followed Ruki-kun and the others to find you! I needed to talk to you about something important, Satomi-san!"
Mifuyu becomes confused and laughs nervously. Ruki then looks at Yuma and the rest of his brothers and then they start to walk away from the two girls. Her eyes follow them. She wanted to ask Yuma why and what he meant. She had a lot more questions about him but nothing came to her. Mifuyu just watched him and his brothers walk away.
"Satomi-san? Satomi-san are you alright?" Yui asks, worried.
Mifuyu snaps back to reality and nods, waving her hand dismissively. "Yeah! I'm fine. What, uh...did you need?" She lies now looking into her strawberry fields.
"I-I wanted to plan a tutoring session with you in the library after school tomorrow night, maybe? Or any time of your choosing! I know we haven't planned anything since we agreed to meet each other, and-"
Mifuyu does a soft chuckle. "Yeah, that sounds just fine. Do you wanna exchange numbers so we can keep this consistent?" She asks and Yui's eyes noticeably look away for a second.
"...Do you have a phone?" Mifuyu asks and the blonde looks at her, blushing in embarrassment.
"O-Oh! Yes! I just forgot it at home." She too also laughs nervously which makes the raven-haired girl tilt her head. But regardless, Mifuyu shrugs. "It's fine. Just gimme your number and I can put it down."
Yui then gives the ravenette her phone number and both of them depart as she realized she lost track of time and scurried off. Mifuyu walks back to the front gates of the school a little after Yui leaves and clutches both of her scarred hands together, starting to shake. A low wind brussels through her skirt as leaves danced beside her. So much happened that she hadn't time to think of her nightmare she had. But now that plagues her mind, Yuma's statement of getting into the case was also infiltrating her mind multiple times. Just the way he said it. He was so persistent in wanting to get into this no matter what.
It's safe to say that you can't do this alone.
Mifuyu bites her lip and looks up to see her escort in front of her and then looks back at the school.
"...I'll have to get to know you better then, Yuma Mukami."
