Chapter 15: First Day

A/N: Good to see positive feedback on all those cameos. Now, get ready for some more

"Ah, Izuku! How did your entrance exam go?" Nedzu asked cheerfully to his prize student.

"It was wonderful sensei! I passed near the top of the class!" Izuku grinned.

"As I expected. And how are you old friend?" Nedzu asked Hisashi who had accompanied his son.

Hisashi groaned, "Could be better. Stupid Kenji, kidnapping me because he thought I'd give away information about the exam,"

Nedzu raised his eye, "And you wouldn't have leaked anything?"

"...Shut up,"

Nedzu chuckled, "Have you given the news to Aizawa?"

"Oh, not yet," Izuku smiled sheepishly. By now Nedzu had interacted with Izuku to know how much he loved to trick people, "What are you planning?" Nedzu asked his student.

"Well," Izuku grinned, "Sensei doesn't know that I plan to be a police officer. He still thinks I want to be a pro-hero,"

"And you want to see his reaction when you don't appear for UA's exam," Nedzu finished Izuku's sentence with a sigh. He groaned at first before cackling, "It seems I have taught you well!"

Izuku grinned back, "Yup! So no telling Aizawa-sensei about the police entrance exam,"

"So you'd rather have him be sad after he learns that you didn't tell him the good news?" Nedzu asked.

Hisashi scoffed, "You're one to talk,"

"Hai, hai, Captain Hisashi!"

"Captain?" Izuku asked in shock.

Hisashi scratched his head, "Yeah, Kenji thought I was wasting my skills by just sitting around. I regret telling him I wanted the younger officers to grow a spine,"

"Why?" Izuku asked.

"He used it against me by saying that as a captain, I could mold their minds. Or some other philosophical shit. I wasn't listening," Hisashi groaned.

"Well, Kenji-san is right," Izuku said as a matter of fact.

"Noooo," Hisashi wailed, "You're my son! You're supposed to be on my side,"

Izuku grinned back cheekily, "I'm merely choosing what is best for our society!"

Hisashi twitched, "What's that even supposed to mean?"

"Ya know. Since they'll learn from you, they'll learn about the authority police actually have and that will be good!" Izuku grinned.

"Hush Izuku," Nedzu said, "Considering how bad of a teacher your father is, I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow made the entire precinct transfer,"

"Let's bet then. Does Tou-chan get sacked first or do the officers ask for a transfer?" Izuku told Nedzu who immediately started writing it on a piece of paper.

"I'm not that bad of a teacher!" Hisashi yelled at the two.

"You couldn't teach me simple algebraic equations for the police exam," Izuku reminded.

"That's because it's theoretical. I'm more of a practical teacher," Hisashi puffed up his chest.

"You're an undercover officer. Are you going to go undercover with your entire precinct to give them a practical view?" Nedzu mocked.

Hisashi twitched, "I regret ever introducing you two! Nedzu has had a bad effect on you," he addressed his son.

"Nedzu-sensei said that after he was rescued, you're the one who reintegrated him into society. So technically, you are the one responsible for this," Izuku nodded sagely.

Hisashi sighed, "Whatever. Anyway let's go Izuku, you'll be late for your first day otherwise,"

"Yup," Izuku said and handed a packet to Nedzu, "This is supposed to be one of the best teas on earth. It's a thank you for teaching me,"

"It's my pleasure to teach someone as smart as you, Izuku," Nedzu smiled, "I really can't accept this. I taught you for your potential, not for gifts,"

"So, I'll take it back?" Izuku slid his hand across the desk but Nedzu pulled the packet, "It's still tea!" he said and stored it carefully in his drawer, "Thank you Izuku,"

"Sure, don't thank the person who actually bought it," Hisashi said mockingly, a grin stretched over his face.

"Bye sensei. I won't be able to train with you guys anymore besides weekends I think,"

"Not to worry, I will redesign your schedule," Nedzu said. Izuku nodded with a grin and ran after his father.

"Here we are!" Hisashi pulled over.

Izuku stared at his father, "Why so far away from the gates?"

Hisashi shuddered for a moment, "I don't want to be seen,"

"Why not?"

"There's a teacher there who I'm not keen on meeting again," Hisashi replied.

Izuku continued staring, "Did Nedzu put something in your tea or something?"

"What? No! Why would you think that?"

Izuku shrugged and opened the car door, "Never saw you scared like that,"

"I'm not scared,"

"I'm sorry," Izuku apologized, "Frightened!" he corrected himself.

Hisashi sighed, "You won't be laughing so much once you meet him either," he said and kissed his son on the head, "Have a good first day," he said affectionately.

Izuku smiled, "Thanks, dad. Have a good first day as Captain,"

Hisashi nodded with a grin and drove off as Izuku started walking to the gates. Izuku walked into the building that was the police academy and found a paper pinned to the board, showing which section everyone was in. Izuku searched his name, "Section A," he muttered to himself and entered the 1A classroom.

"Yo, Izuku!" Midoriya heard someone yell as soon as he entered, "Shisui!" He said excitedly and ran to his newfound friend, "I'm glad we're both in the same class!"

"Me too!" Shisui grinned, "Itachi's here too but he's not much fun,"

"Hn,"

"Hn, Hn, Hn," Shisui mocked, "Learn some vocabulary will you?"

"Hn,"

"Is it weird I understand what he wants to say even though he's grunting," Izuku asked. Shisui shook his head, "I sometimes wonder if he has a telepathic quirk or something,"

Izuku laughed, "What is your quirk anyway?"

"Mine? It's called body flicker. It's exactly what it sounds like," Shisui said proudly.

"Woah, that's cool. What about you, Itachi?"

"Hn,"

"I'm not fluent enough yet to understand what you're saying now," Izuku grinned.

Itachi twitched, "I can trap people under illusions,"

"Whoa! You both have so strong quirks!" Izuku said. He was about to ask for more details when he felt someone pat his head. He faced upwards to see the red-haired examiner smiling down, "Oh! I'm so glad I have you in my class. You're just so cute!"

Izuku blushed at the compliment. Kushina cooed, "You look even cuter now!"

"Are you the homeroom teacher?" Itachi demanded.

Kushina stopped patting Izuku's head and smiled, "Indeed I am! Everyone, please take your seats!" She said and walked to the front of the class, "My name is Uzumaki Kushina! I love ramen and my family. I dislike people making fun of my hair and I wish to make sure you all become wonderful members of the police! Now, why don't you guys introduce yourselves? Let's start with you!" Kushina pointed to Izuku.

Izuku stood up nervously. Sure he made fun of others with Nedzu and his father, but that was only because he was comfortable around them. He still didn't like being singled out, "My name is Midoriya Izuku. I like to analyze quirks and learn new things. I dislike discrimination. I want to prove that even someone quirkless like me can become a hero and that you don't need to be a Pro to be a hero to the people!" Izuku said with determination, somehow not stuttering.

Izuku looked around and was surprised to see none of the students cared about his quirkless status. One of them however chuckled and immediately fell out of his chair when a chain landed on his desk, "You! I do not condone discrimination either. Even though Izuku is quirkless, he can still be a hero! Go to the principal's office!"

The boy in question stared and then chuckled, "Sensei, I was chuckling because you have ramen on your shoulder,"

Kushina blinked and turned to see a single noodle dangling from her shoulder. She smiled sheepishly, "Sorry about that,"

"No problem sensei,"

"You can sit down Izuku. Good introduction. It's nice to see people who understand that you can be a hero as long as you help people," Kushina grinned, "Now, the rest of you, introduce yourselves too,"

Izuku sat down groggily. He had never had a teacher defend him before except Nedzu and Aizawa. He had expected Kushina to make fun of him but then again, they were the police. Hisashi had explained the entire system to his once to show why there was so less discrimination in the ranks compared to the heroes. It made sense they would keep the best who didn't discriminate to teach the students.

Izuku zoned out as the rest of the students introduced themselves. He vaguely heard Itachi saying his dream was to have the most arrests in police history. He finally snapped out of his thoughts when Shisui stood up last, to introduce himself, "My name is Uchiha Shisui! I like to make friends and dislike evil people. My dream is to help as many people as I can!"

"Very generic but a wonderful dream," Kushina commented, "Well then, now that we are properly introduced, we should head to the auditorium. The principal will be giving a speech soon to welcome you all,"

The class got up and formed a line as they followed Kushina to the auditorium. Kushina led them to their place and then walked onto the stage. The principal waited for all the classes to arrive and then cleared his throat. The auditorium grew quiet, "Welcome! The first years have already met me in our interview but for tradition's sake, my name is Umino Iruka, and I'm the principal,"

Iruka paused for dramatic effect, "I'd like to first explain how things will go to the first years. You will be learning at the academy for 6 months after which you will be designated to a detective who will look after you. Basically, at the end of 6 months, you will have the same jurisdiction as a patrol officer but you can only act with the guidance of your designated officer," Iruka explained.

A bit of murmuring started at this but Iruka continued, "Many of you must be wondering then, why there are second years and third years. This is because even though you will be learning from another officer, you will still have to attend the academy. The first 6 months are to teach you the basics of law enforcement and to make sure you have a good grasp of what the law is. After that, you will spend time learning the more complex material from your teachers and guest lecturers. This will depend on what type of police you want to be. Tracker police, Special forces, undercover police, each will have their separate course material. Of course, you will all have to attend lessons of each course to have a good grasp but you won't need to give exams on the courses you do not have any interest in," Iruka explained.

"Does that mean we will have to learn about undercover police and their operation as well but not give an exam on it if we plan to enter special forces?" Shisui asked.

Iruka nodded, "Exactly. You'll be subject to quizzes to make sure you're learning but you'll be exempt from the final exams since you are only required to have an understanding of the basics, and not the complexity of it,"

There was a murmur of appreciation in the crowd. Mainly due to the fact that it gave them the opportunity to learn things they had an interest in even if they wouldn't be pursuing it. Itachi raised his hand and Iruka called on him, "Yes?"

"How long must we be at the academy?"

"You can pass by giving an independent exam. However, you can only do so if your teachers feel you are prepared. There is also another condition that you must be at least 18 before you can do so. Our police academy is a special branch where we try to hone your skills from when you are young. Everyone here is below 18 since state law states that you can't be a full-time police officer if your age is below 18. That's why this is a good opportunity. As academy students, you will have the jurisdiction of an officer while being below 18 but will be monitored closely. Does that answer your question?" Iruka smiled.

"Yes. But does that mean even if we excel at our studies, we cannot graduate before we're 18?"

"No, you cannot. There's a firm age limit. Being a police officer is no easy task. You must be prepared to face things that only an adult should face. Why do you think we have you monitored?" Iruka asked rhetorically.

Izuku raised his hand next, "Sensei, you said we are a special branch. What do you mean by that?"

Iruka sighed, "Those who are over 18 cannot enter our academy. They have to enter a separate academy for adults and their training is more grueling," Iruka said honestly, "You all will be able to gain certifications while you study here and will also gain experience with your individual mentors. This lets you apply for a promotion, just 2 months out of the academy. On the other hand, those over 18 have to go through 2 years of training in the academy before they can become even a patrol officer. After that, they have to spend at least 9 months as a patrol officer before they can apply for a position,"

"Isn't that unfair?" Izuku asked.

"You are children so it's easier to teach you why discrimination is bad and change your ways," Iruka said as several of the seniors flushed red, "But adults are less likely to change their views which is why we don't allow them to obtain promotion before 1 year. This gives enough time for any public complaints to appear and reconsider our decision. It's also one of the reasons why the over 18 academies have a lower turnout rate. Half of them are expelled due to having authority abusing ideas," Iruka explained.

Izuku was satisfied with the explanation. Iruka scanned the floor for any more raised hands and then continued his welcome speech as he moved on to greet the seniors back. Izuku noticed that some of the seniors were murmuring about the answers to the questions he had asked. He assumed the previous questions had already been asked by the previous classes in their first year but the difference between the academies was something that had not been known.

"Now that details about our schedule are done, I'll introduce the teachers, both old and new!" Iruka said.

Izuku snapped out of his thoughts, "You all know Uzumaki Kushina already! She's class 1A's homeroom teacher, this time," Kushina waved to the students with a grin and the seniors waved back happily. Evidently, she was a popular figure, "Next is Gojou Satoru," Iruka said with a slight reluctance in his voice. Izuku identified it as the name of the one who had switched out his quirk for a prank.

An even bigger cheer roared through the auditorium, "Looks like Gojou sensei is really popular," Shisui whispered to Izuku.

"Your physical fitness teacher is Maito Gai,"

"I'LL MAKE SURE TO TRAIN YOU WELL! OTHERWISE, I'LL DO A THOUSAND PUSHUPS ON MY PINKIES!" Gai yelled.

There was a significantly smaller cheer for Gai but it was loud nonetheless. Shisui and Izuku exchanged a look at the weirdness of their fitness teacher.

"We also have our combat teacher-" Iruka started to say when he stopped, "Wait, where is-"

"I AM HERE!" Izuku winced as the brick wall next to him was smashed open. Izuku narrowly dodged a brick that went flying over his head, "Is it just me or did that sound like All Might?" Shisui whispered to Izuku who simply nodded back dumbly.

The smoke cleared to reveal an aged man who seemed way too muscular for his age, "I am Monkey D Garp! Your combat instructor," The man yelled out.

All of the first-year students stared at the new addition like he was crazy. Izuku noted the seniors were not at all surprised which indicated he had done this multiple times, "Is he trying to be like All Might?" Izuku turned and gaped in shock, "You can talk?" he asked Itachi who glared dirtily at him. izuku simply grinned back.

"Be like All Might! He stole that from me! Then again I did train him," Garp said.

The first years all gaped at the absurdity of what Garp said, "No way!" Someone shouted.

"Don't worry about him," Someone from the third-year's line told them, "He's old and senile,"

"Who are you calling senile brat!" Garp hit the student over the head, "What!? It is true. There's no way that you trained All Might!" The student said.

"Well, I did. Unless you are calling me a liar?" Garp asked.

"No, no."

"Of course not sensei," The auditorium murmured.

"GARP!" The person in question flinched at the angry voice, "WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT SMASHING THROUGH THE WALL? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS TO FIX IT!?" Iruka yelled.

Garp waved it off, "I can fix it in a jiffy,"

Iruka glared but then a smile slowly crept across his face, "Yes.. you are right Garp! You shall fix the wall!" Iruka cackled in a way so similar to Nedzu that made Izuku shiver. He didn't want to know the horrors Iruka had to go through to have the ability to cackle like his rat mentor.

"But-"

"No buts! Fix it," Iruka ordered, "Kids," Iruka switched his tone, "You can all go back to class now. The rest of the teachers will introduce themselves in class,"

"Oi, 3C, stay here," Garp ordered.

"Why?" The boy who had called him senile asked.

"Because you're gonna help me fix the wall,"

"Ehh, you're the one who broke through it," the boy argued.

"Well, your next class is with me anyway. This is your classwork," Garp said and started to walk away.

"At least help!" The class demanded. Garp pouted but nodded and walked back with a hammer.

The first years, Izuku included sweat-dropped at the scene. Most of them feared how the rest of the teachers would be after having been welcomed by the kind Kushina to witnessing Garp. Izuku wondered if this was the teacher his father had been so afraid of. However, the first-years' fears were still not done as Gai ran up to them, "YOSH! YOUR NEXT CLASS IS WITH ME 1A. FOLLOW ME TO THE GYM!"

The students stared around nervously. Gai waited, thinking they had questions and not that they had been weirded out, "YOU!" He turned to Izuku.

"Y-yes?"

"I like your hair color. Here take this!" He threw a set of green tights to Izuku, "They will go well with your hair and they will make you stronger!"

Izuku stared at the tights, "Whoa, does that mean you have a quirk that allows you to transfer power from clothes to the body!?"

"Of course not!" Shisui yelled.

"Hey, we have people like Best Jeanist. He might have a quirk like that," Izuku argued.

"Meanwhile the third years who were repairing the wall chuckled, "I forgot how innocent the first years always are,"

"Ah, those were the days."

"Some of the other first years grew even more scared now. One of them looked at the tights in disgust which Gai mistook for jealously, "Not to worry my dear students!" he pulled out a box from out of nowhere, "I have enough for all of you!"

The box almost immediately exploded into flames, courtesy of a third year, "Sensei, do you really want to do this to Kushina-sensei's class?" the girl asked, "She's still mad you gifted their newborn son, Naruto, a kiddy sized green tight set,"

"It would have come in handy for his training..."

"He's a baby!"

Gai shrugged, "NEVERTHELESS, I WON'T ALLOW THIS TO DIMINISH MY FLAMES OF YOUTH! FOLLOW ME STUDENTS SO THAT I CAN UNLEASH YOUR POWER OF YOUTH AS WELL!"

The first years stared after the crazy man but reluctantly followed. He stared at his surviving pair of tights, they honestly didn't look that bad. And Gai-sensei didn't disprove his quirk analysis either. But after hearing about Kushina-sensei's story, Izuku decided not to risk it and instead stuff it in his locker.

"If Aizawa-sensei thinks Nedzu-sensei is too much, he should meet these teachers," Izuku thought to himself. He chuckled as he thought of Gai proclaiming his youth to Nedzu. However, the brain is a mysterious thing and it morphed Gai's tights onto Nedzu. Izuku stopped and nearly gagged at the unholy imagery that had entered his mind. He looked at the tights he was holding and dropped them, they looked hideous now!

"You alright?" Shisui rushed to his friend.

"Yeah. I just had a picture enter my mind," Izuku gulped down the vomit that had been rising in his neck.

"Here," Itachi handed him some water. Izuku drank it gratefully. Once he had finished the entire bottle, he stuffed the tights into the trash, special powers or not, he didn't need that sort of imagery in his mind.

A/N: I bid you adieu with the imagery of Nedzu wearing Gai's green jumpsuit.
