Chapter 17: First Day III

After lunch, they were now in their art class… doing Origami. Most of the class agreed that it was a useless and boring craft but they'd be lying if they said it wasn't at least interesting.

Most of the class passed with no event, the teacher simply showing them how to do it, and the students following suit. Nearing the end of class, one student had enough and threw down his material, "For god's sake! Why do we have to do this?"

"It helps to destress," Konan, the teacher replied, "Being a police officer is a very stressful job, didn't you know?"

"Yeah, but we aren't in the field yet! Art class is useless," The boy burst out.

Konan didn't speak and instead curled up a piece of paper and threw it at the boy's hand.

"Ow!" The boy winced in pain, holding up a horizontal cut on the length of his finger, "Art," the purple hair teacher said, "always has a use," she finished while handing the boy a bandage.

"How did you do that?" Shisui asked.

"That is for next time," Konan smiled as the bell rang, "Off you go," she bade them goodbye.

"I'm not saying she's bad," Shisui said, "She's just weird,"

"Not that weird. Maybe just not very social," Izuku defended. He had been treated badly enough times for being 'weird.'

Shisui understood that there was probably something more to it and did not go further into it.

The door opened, "Hello, my name is Hyuga Neji and I am your math teacher. Please take your seats,"

The teacher looked strict and Izuku found it wise to not get on his bad side and quickly took his seat.

The class got underway after all of them took their seats. Neji started the class, showing them a set of algebraic calculations.

"Man, leave it to math teachers to not cut some slack," Shisui groaned as he opened his textbook.

"I would appreciate it if you concentrated on your math instead of talking," Neji warned.

Shisui scowled slightly, "No use scowling," Neji said.

Shisui's mouth gaped. He turned to Izuku. He pointed at Neji's head and pointed to his eyes.

"Once again, Shisui-san, please concentrate on your studies. And to answer your question, yes," Neji said, not turning once.

Shisui looked a bit embarrassed but started doing his work. Izuku looked fascinated at the prospect of looking through the back of his head, "Do you have a blind spot?"

Neji turned, exasperated, "If you would please do your work first?"

"Yes sir," Izuku bit his lip and turned to his work.

After about one and a half hour, Neji flicked the chalk onto the desk, "Well, that's all for today. This was your last class, so you can either head home or you can go over any problems you had,"

"Holy crap, a teacher letting you leave after the work is done instead of something new?" Shisui gasped, "And a math teacher on top of that? Impossible,"

Neji smiled, "I like to keep my word. I'm not an awful person. You only need to get the work done, and we're alright,"

"Well good to know that sensei. Bye," Shisui said.

"Goodbye," Neji smiled warmly.

"Izuku, you coming?" Shisui asked.

"Uhm, you go on ahead. I want to chat with Neji-sensei," Izuku excused. Shisui nodded, "Well, see you tomorrow," he left.

"Problem with any of the math?" Neji asked.

"What? Oh, no." Izuku rubbed the back of his head, "I just wanted to know more about your quirk,"

"My quirk?" Neji enquired once more.

"Yeah," Izuku rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, "I'm just really interested in quirks. So, what's yours?"

Neji laughed uproariously, "Midoriya Izuku, right? The quirkless student?"

"Uhm yes," Izuku replied hesitantly.

Neji smirked, "No need to be so nervous. We've had loads of quirkless students before you know?"

"Y-you have?"

"Of course," Neji smirked, "So, what did you want to ask me?"

"Well, your quirk. How can the eyes at the back of your head see with hair blocking it?"

"I-I'm… what?"

"Yeah, the eyes at the back of your head,"

"Ah that's not actually my quirk though. It's more so that I can see through things and have a 360 field of view,"

"Whoa that's so awesome! Do you have a limit through what you can see?"

"Two or three walls is usually enough. Not much more," Neji replied.

"Interesting… Any blind spots?"

Neji smirked, "I'm not telling you that until you graduate. You will probably use it to cheat,"

Izuku frowned, "I'm not like that!"

"No, but your classmates are," Neji said lazily, "What more do you have to ask?"

"Well, I was wondering what the other teacher's quirks are too,"

"That's not really my place to say. You should ask them individually. They won't mind," Neji answered warmly.

"Oh, alright," Izuku replied, a bit disheartened, "Thanks for sharing your quirk with me sensei. I'll see you tomorrow,"

Neji smiled at the boy's retreating back, "A rather interesting boy…" he commented.

Izuku exited the building as fast as he could. He still had to meet Nedzu before heading home.

Hisashi was not having a good day as captain of the 99th precinct. Sure, they were a couple of good officers like Tsukauchi and Sansa but most of them were so utterly incompetent that he wondered how they even passed the academy.

As the thought struck, he smiled with glee. Yes, he would send them all back to basic training!

Tsukauchi saw what his new captain was about to do and tugged the paper away, "They simply lack experience, Hisashi-san. Everything that the academy teaches, they have it covered. Just the lack of experience,"

Hisashi huffed, "Even my son could do a much better job than some of those idiots!"

"Izuku, today is his first day at the academy, right?" Tsukauchi asked.

Hisashi nodded, "His classes must have ended by now,"

"Aren't you going to pick him up?"

"No,"

"Why?" Tsukauchi asked to which Hisashi gave no answer, "Parents generally go to pick up their children on the first day, why won't you?"

"He has another appointment," Hisashi replied shortly.

"Hm," Tsukauchi said as it registered as truth, "But, there's something more, isn't there?" He asked slyly.

"There's no other reason,"

"Ah if only you kept quiet, I wouldn't know it's a lie," Tsukauchi grinned, using his quirk.

Hisashi scowled and didn't reply.

"Are you scared of someone at the academy?" Tsukauchi grinned.

Hisashi still didn't respond but Tsukuachi caught on, "Your silence indicates yes,"

"It does not!"

"And since that's a lie, you are afraid of someone there," Tsukuachi deduced and continued, "Let's see, you wouldn't know anyone at the academy except Iruka and Garp-senpai because you're too old to have met the other teachers,"

Hisashi glared at Tsukauchi for the snipe at his age, "I am your captain you know,"

"A poor one," Tsukauchi confessed, "But anyway, both are scary. Garp-san… well because he is Garp-san and Iruka isn't as intimidating but we both know he can raise hell if you do something stupid. Given your immaturity," here Hisashi pouted but Tsukauchi ignored him, "it is safe to say that you are scared of Iruka but Iruka only gets angry if it's ethically wrong which I don't think you did. So, let's say Garp?"

Hisashi sighed, "Fine it's Garp. Happy?"

"Of course. How on earth are you the best undercover agent if your secrets are so easily found out,"

Hisashi smirked, "This is only because you know those who work at the academy as well. To go undercover, it's best to go undercover into something you have no information about. If you have information, you are more likely to slip up on something you don't know,"

"I'd argue that it's better if you are aware of what's going on. That way you know what you're looking for," Tsukauchi contended.

"Or, you can get a surplus of information that you can use for later relevance," Hisashi clasped his hands together and stared at the detective, "Every piece of criminal information comes in handy sometime or the other,"

Tsukauchi had to admit defeat at that. Hisashi was right to an extent, "So, you have surplus information on the Yakuza?"

"Well," Hisashi slammed his hands on the desk and stood up, ignoring the question, "Well, let's get going to work, shall we?"

"What did you have in mind?" Tsukauchi asked. He could see it in his captain's eyes that he wouldn't be revealing anything about that. Had it been anyone else, he'd have assumed the reason for Hisashi's refusal was that he was passing information but this was the commissioner's friend. And a legend in the police circle.

"Well since you won't let me send them back to basic training," Hisashi replied, "Let's get them some experience!"

"Um, how?" Tsukauchi asked hesitantly.

"Get them the juiciest cases. I'm talking murders, gang chases, the best of the best,"

"Isn't that rushing it?"

"Hm, you might be right," Hisashi considered.

"So, normal case assignment?"

"Oh, no. Get them the new cases,"

"But I thought you just said-"

"I simply agreed that your idea had merit. But I'm still going with mine. Go on now," Hisashi ordered, sipping on his coffee.

Tsukauchi shook his head with disbelief.

Izuku had reached UA and was just about to head over to Nedzu's office when Aizawa interrupted, "He's out problem child,"

"Oh, I see," Izuku said pondering over what he should do.

"C'mon, I'm training you today,"

"Oh, I assumed you'd be tired out because of your classes," Izuku told Aizawa.

"I am, but Nedzu won't be able to teach you this week except the weekends. So, I'll be training you on the weekdays for this week and Nedzu will take over my part on the weekend," Aizawa informed him.

"Wow, surprised to see you so active!" He grinned.

"Well, we need to get you up for shape the UA entrance exam,"

"I'm sorry, what?" Izuku asked for clarification.

"You are going to be giving the entrance exam for attending a hero course remember?" Aizawa stared at him, "It's about time to have a quirkless hero,"

Izuku disagreed silently. He was going to be a quirkless hero by being in the police. But he couldn't pass up the chance to mess with Aizawa. A sly smile spread across his face, "Ah yes, that. Sorry my brain's just a bit slow today,"

Aizawa didn't look too impressed, "Just get your gym uniform and meet me. We'll spar today," he said and left.

Izuku grumbled a bit. His muscles were already sore from the workout with Gai. And now this. Well, at least he could mess with his teacher by making him think he's going to be attending UA. He'd just have to warn Nedzu to not slip the secret to him.

A/N: Reason Neji is a math teacher is plain and simple, Eight trigrams and 64 palms is the most I've seen an anime character do math.

Lastly, I know it's not much of a chapter, I just wanted to introduce some more of the cast, so here's a fun fact: Bepo from One piece and Nedzu share the same voice acto
