Chapter 20: Yakuza

A/N: Well, 20 chapters guys! Gotta say, wasn't expecting this fic to take off so sharply. Hope you enjoy it. Thank you for the reviews too.

Hisashi walked down the familiar underground passages. It had been a long time since he had last walked these paths. There was no danger of him being discovered since these were hidden passages that only each of the Yakuza bosses knew about.

The only reason Hisashi knew about these paths was because of his underground assignment all those years ago. It would be sort of nice to meet Gin again. The Shie Hassaikai boss had been one of the bosses that had welcomed the plea deal wholeheartedly. Without his support, the Yakuza would have probably fought it out with the police instead of agreeing to reduce power and being put under surveillance.

As far as the members knew, Hisashi was a high-ranking member of the Yakuza who had enormous power. Only the bosses knew that he was undercover police. Yet, they still welcomed him because he had worked hard to give them the plea deal, without which they would be extinct.

Hisashi slipped a wood panel and entered a dark room, making himself comfortable on the sofa. He didn't have to wait long as the door opened with a resounding creak in the empty room. The light flushed in just enough for Hisashi to see Gin's face, "Been a long time, hasn't it?" he asked gruffly.

The boss stiffened as the man next to him seemed to prepare to fight, taking off his gloves, "No. He's not an enemy," Gin ordered.

The man seemed hesitant but obliged, "Leave us," the boss further ordered. The man's face turned slightly hostile, "What if he is an enemy?"

"He isn't. Now leave us Chisaki and don't linger," Gin ordered. Chisaki swiftly left, closing the door behind him. Gin sat on the sofa opposite, "New recruit?" Hisashi asked.

"Not exactly. More of an adoptive son," Gin replied. An uncomfortable silence descended upon the two. There was enough mutual respect between the two of them but the fact that Hisashi was a mole evidently bothered the boss.

"So, what do you need?" Gin asked.

"Straight down to business huh?" Hisashi replied.

"Look, the Yakuza are indebted to you for being able to work out an alternative deal that helped us to keep some power and waived a majority of crimes in exchange of a hefty fine," Gin said, "But, the fact stands that you were a mole. Something that was dishonorable in the Yakuza code,"

"And killing people wasn't?" Hisashi asked coldly.

Gin didn't reply at first, "That was my predecessor's fault. I'm already looking past it and trying to put up a proper business,"

"Oh? And what business would that be?"

"Security,"

Hisashi laughed, "Still keeping the goons then,"

"Well, can't stray too much can we?" Gin smiled back.

"And here I thought you were still mad at me," Hisashi chuckled.

"Well, I am. But part of the reason your plea deal was accepted by the bosses is that they all loved you. The Yakuza might be illegal but we do have a strong moral code, one that you did to the book. Although that might have something to do with you being a police officer," Gin smirked, "Anyway, what brings you here?"

"I need information," Hisashi replied shortly.

"I thought the police would have all sorts of information," Gin replied, trying to sound ignorant.

"Oh please. You might be going legal, but we both know you still deal in underground criminal activities," Hisashi replied.

"Perhaps. But you are a police officer. What if you go against us again?"

Hisashi's eyes narrowed, "I won't as long as you haven't done something major. Drug deals and such can be waived off in exchange for information,"

"Well, we haven't done any major illegal activities that I'm aware of. So, ask away,"

"Aware of?" Hisashi caught on, "You really are getting old if you can't control your members,"

"It's not a matter of control. It's just that Chisaki is still young and hot-headed," Gin replied.

"You seem fond of him. Is he your successor for the throne?" Hisashi asked.

"Not yet. Like I said, too hot-headed. He might take the Yakuza back to the old, gruesome days. I have enough time to train him as it is,"

"Mhm," Hisashi sounded unconvinced, "Anyway, what do you know about a doctor named Garaki?"

"Garaki huh?" Gin said, "He's a famed doctor as much as I know. Some people think he's crazy for his Quirk Doomsday theory. If you are looking for some criminal activity on him, he doesn't have any that I know,"

Hisashi groaned, "Dead-end,"

"What were you looking for?" Gin asked.

"He branded someone quirkless on a false diagnosis," Hisashi replied.

"Why would that bother you? Could just be a mistake,"

"It could but people are disappearing again Gin. Especially quirkless people. There are some reasons for suspicion but they are classified," Hisashi said, revealing as little as he could.

Gin nodded, "Well that's all I'm aware of. Can't help you with him,"

"Seems so. I should go then. Much more to check out," Hisashi replied.

"Hmph. Just getting information and going. Not even a snack or anything," Gin replied, "We are still friends, even if there's some bad blood,"

Hisashi looked a bit abashed, "I'll be here for lunch on Friday,"

"That would be nice," Gin smiled, "Shall I show you out?" he offered. Hisashi nodded and they both walked out.

"Quite the renovations," Hisashi observed.

"The architecture was becoming too outdated, even for my taste," Gin replied. The tow continued down the winding passages when suddenly a little girl ran into Hisashi's legs.

Hisashi looked down at the white-haired girl who looked a bit sad. He went to pick her up when Gin yelled, "Don't! She has a volatile quirk!"

Hisashi stiffened, "What's her quirk?"

"She can rewind things. So much so that they can be re-winded out of existence," Gin replied.

Hisashi looked a bit skeptical, "A volatile quirk but it won't be damaging as long as you don't startle her," Hisashi picked the girl up with a smile, "Would you like a chocolate?" he pulled out a bar from his pockets.

Eri nodded excitedly as Hisashi handed the bar of chocolate.

"Shouldn't be startled huh?" Gin noted.

Hisashi nodded, "Adopted her too?"

"No, she is my granddaughter, Eri. My daughter abandoned her and ran away because she was too afraid of her quirk, unlike you," Gin replied, "Chisaki is looking after her now,"

"Yes, and I would like her back please," The man in question appeared with an outstretched hand. Hisashi felt Eri clutch him tighter. Hisashi looked cautiously at Chisaki. He did give off a bad vibe with his beak mask. Hisashi quickly scanned Eri. It didn't seem like there were any injuries on her and given that she was wearing a half-sleeve, it's not like it could be hidden. Plus, he did trust his old friend to look after a kid probably and so reluctantly handed her over.

"Are you the one who was in the meeting?" Chisaki demanded as he pulled Eri away.

"Chisaki! Tone. He's one of my good friends and has a high rank amongst the other Yakuza bosses," Gin notified. Chisaki's eyes still seemed aggressive as he apologized, "Excuse me,"

Hisashi waved it off, "Why is he suddenly here? I never saw him before," Chisaki said.

"He was abroad," Gin replied shortly, "Anyway, he has to go now, so I'll see him out," Gin said as he pulled Hisashi with him.

Once they were out of hearing distance, Chisaki took Eri back to her room, "Should we be concerned about the new guy?" Kurono asked as Chisaki put Eri to bed.

"I'm not sure. Keep an eye on him when he's around," Chisaki ordered.

"That might be hard since he seems to meet directly with boss,"

"Just do it," Chisaki ordered. If this new person had as strict a moral code as Gin, they would be in trouble. He was younger and looked to be smart enough to catch on. And given that he was on good terms with the other bosses, he was certain to have a lot of power. It was a good thing that they had not yet started experimentation on Eri.

Meanwhile, Hisashi's mind just would not forget about Eri. It almost seemed like she was frightened. He tried to reason that it was just a childish fear for a stupid reason, but his mind would not accept it, "Say Gin, do you have the proper conditions to raise Eri?" Hisashi asked.

"We have a lot of people with families here. And they do fine," Gin replied gruffly, "Are you trying to take Eri away because of her strong quirk?"

"Of course not!" Hisashi sounded insulted, "I'm just wondering if Chisaki should be raising her. You did say he is hot-headed,"

"I trust him completely,"

"Trust and capability are two different things," Hisashi pointed out.

"And you would know all about that, wouldn't you?" Gin said a bit coldly now that Hisashi was interfering with family matters. Hisashi couldn't bring himself to reply to that and shut up as the cold night breeze hit his face outside the compartment, "See you Friday," Gin smiled warmly and shook Hisashi's hand before walking back inside.

Hisashi sighed deeply. He had come here for information on Garaki and potentially, All for One. But he hadn't got anything at all and instead had another headache. As Kenji pointed out, his hunches were usually right.

For Garaki, he had information to back his hunch. Garaki was working alongside Aldera, a criminal organization, which was all but proven to work with All for One.

However, in this case, all he had was a hunch and nothing to back it up. Should he waste resources trying to go after a hunch that might be wrong or should he ignore it and put everything on sniffing out All for One? It was a tough choice.

Ultimately Hisashi decided to message Kenji; "Bad feeling about Shie Hassaikai. Make sure police monitoring officers are not slacking off. No need for extra resources now." He messaged quickly.

"I'm going to be visiting every week anyway. I'll just have to check up on her to make sure nothing is happening," Hisashi thought to himself as he walked away, trying his best to ignore the nagging feeling in his mind.

Omake: Aizawa and Shikamaru's sleeping bag shopping

Yamada was walking through the nearby shopping mall on his weekend off. It was nice to have a quiet day off after working as a hero.

Suddenly he noticed Aizawa sleeping in his yellow sleeping bag. At first, he was going to approach him but then he remembered that Aizawa told him he had work today. Aizawa often acted homeless to gather information.

However, to his surprise, Shikamaru suddenly appeared and walked to Aizawa, initiating a conversation.

Yamada was a bit surprised, "Maybe he needed a lawyer for a case," Yamada thought but he was wrong.

"Sorry I'm late. I had trouble getting up," Shikamaru apologized.

"No problem. I was just catching up on some sleep," Aizawa folded the sleeping bag, "Shall we?"

Shikamaru nodded, "Thank you for showing me the best sleeping bags. I can't believe I never thought of buying a sleeping bag before!"

"No problem. It's nice to see someone as concerned with sleep. I just hope you don't mind being called homeless,"

"Other people's thoughts don't bother me," Shikamaru replied, "I need more sleep!"

Yamada was sure Aizawa was joking. He never went to public places if he could help it. There was no way he'd be showing someone where to buy sleeping bags!

But sure enough the two walked into a camping store. Yamada followed discreetly, taking photos for later.

"Now see the expensive ones look good, but they aren't very comfortable. The cheaper ones look bland but are more comfortable in my opinion," Aizawa said.

Shikamaru listened attentively, "We'll need water proof ones in case it rains."

Aizawa nodded, "And also ones that have extra padding at ears to drown out noises,"

"Yes, noises are too troublesome. Which one do you think is good?

"Well this one is new on the market and has glowing reviews," Aizawa pointed, "Shall we test them?"

Shikamaru nodded.

"Wait… test them?" Yamada thought. It was exactly as he imagined as the two lied down in the bags. Yamada waited for them to get up but instead heard snoring, "They fell asleep!?"

Yamada stared at the two. The store workers just walked past with no care and he wondered what he should do. Shrugging, he left to get his own shopping.

After he had finished buying his clothes and had a wonderful lunch, he went back to the camping store and saw Aizawa and Shikamaru getting out of another set of sleeping bags.

"The flannel on that was too thick," Shikamaru said

"Agreed. And the first one was too comfortable. I still want my bed to feel special,"

"This one looks good,"

"Let's give it a shot," Aizawa agreed as the two lied down again and started snoring.

Yamada watched the two with a gaping mouth, "Are you kidding me?"

A/N: Yes, Eri retrieval arc is coming up slightly sooner. No, I have no clue how I'm balancing it with All For One and Garaki but hey, it will work out... I hope.

Lastly, hope the Omake was enjoyable to you!
