C7: First Leads

A couple of weeks later the entire department had gathered very early in the morning, because they had a lead on one of the Death Eaters, namely Corbin Yaxley.
The man had become careless after his escape and it hadn't taken long for them to find information about his whereabouts with all the resources at their disposal.
Because it was so early, no one was particularly awake at the moment which they were trying to remedy by excessive amounts of coffee. "So here's the deal. As you all know we have a very solid lead on Yaxley and we're going to jump on it, hence the reason for the early hour. I want to try to get a clean arrest, we don't want to alert the Death Eaters that we're investigating them. Make sure to take your unregistered wands with you should things get hairy and keep an eye on your partner. Draco, I need you here assisting your mother and aunt Andi. We will need you to prepare the interrogation when we come back. I want you to take the lead in that." Fabian said softly.
Draco nodded at that. "Will do Fabe. I'll make sure to prepare myself as well as I can."
"I don't think it'll be that hard Draco, but I think you'll agree with me that it would be better if we kept your involvement quiet for as long as we can. I know you'll break him, and when he confesses, we'll make sure Yaxley will get a one way trip to the Ministry dungeons. He's already escaped from Azkaban, so we might need something new for that." Fabian said with a smile before turning back to the others. "As for the rest, Ginny and Luna will be on recon and asset protection, Fleur and Pansy together with Dora and I will make the arrest. You two will secure the location and start gathering evidence with Ginny and Luna while we bring Yaxley back here. We will leave in thirty minutes. Take that time to wake up and prepare."
They all nodded at that before Dora pulled him to the side. "You know, I love it when you're all authoritative like that. I might need to change my panties before we go."
"Keep them on love, we don't need distractions now. When we're off this afternoon I will grant your every wish." He said softly.

Fabian smiled and kissed her softly. "Let's go and change then. We still need to get our armor on."
Dora nodded and smiled. "I'll go distribute the rest of the armor while you get changed. I don't trust myself not to jump you right now."
He smiled and smacked her butt as she walked to the cabinet where they stored their armors, which had all been tailored for each employee specifically.
It was designed to absorb most stunners and hexes and would be an invaluable, and not to mention lightweight piece to their gear today. He knew Yaxley wasn't going to come quietly and the fact that they knew the Death Eaters were out for blood would make Yaxley unpredictable, and thus dangerous, and the last thing they wanted was for anyone to get hurt.
When he got his armor on, Dora wrapped her arms around him from behind. "I have to say that our tailor is a genius. You can barely feel the armor."
He smiled at her. "I know, it takes a bit of getting used to though. I'm not used to so many layers."
She smiled at him. "It makes you look amazing though. It makes you look even more authoritative."
He smiled at that. "Thanks love, and I have to say yours really bring out your best assets. Perhaps we should take them home afterwards and give it some more practical testing." He said with a wink.
Dora smiled and kissed him softly. "I could be down for that. But no talk of tonight with our aunts in earshot. We should also get ready for the last talk of the team. Make sure everyone is on the same page."
He smiled and nodded at her before giving her a last kiss, the two lovers walking back into the pen together.
"Right, now that everyone has suited up, so to speak, are we all ready for our first official arrest?" He asked with a smile.
Everyone nodded at him. "We are as ready as we can be Fabe. We won't know exactly what we are walking into, but we've stared ourselves to death on the blue prints. Everything that happens today will happen by chance." Fleur said with a kind smile.
He nodded and smiled at her. "That it will, which I why I must urge you all to be careful. Always stay together and don't lose sight of each other. It's an old property so muffle your footsteps and check every corner. We don't want to be caught off guard."
They all nodded at that. "We'll be careful Fabian. We all have something to come home for." Luna said with her usual dreamy smile.
"One last thing. Be sure to take your badges. They will act as an emergency Portkey if it would ever be necessary."
They all nodded and checked their gear a final time before Fabian took an old tire and held it out. "Everyone grab on, it'll take us directly to his mansion."
Once everyone had a hold of the tire they disappeared with a crack, leaving Draco, Narcissa and Andromeda alone to prepare the interrogation.

When they appeared in a dark alley a few houses down from Yaxley's mansion they took a moment to take in their surroundings. The streets were deadly quiet, which worried them a little, and Ginny and Luna immediately got to work, setting up a perimeter so they could work safely, which would ensure they wouldn't be interrupted.
"Let's not waste too much time. We wouldn't want to make anyone suspicious. Ginny and Luna, keep an eye out for anything suspicious and let us know if you spot anything out of the ordinary. The D.M.I.I. emblem on your chest acts as a short range Patronus." Fabian said softly.
They nodded at that. "Luna and I will post up at the front and back entrances, it's open enough that we will have an open view of the surrounding area. While you scout out the interior we will also scan the grounds for hidden entrances or exits." Ginny said softly.
Fabian nodded at her. "Good, we'll let you know when we have him in custody or when we'll need back up. From here on out there will only be Patronus contact in dire situations."
Everyone nodded as they split up into their assigned teams, with Fleur and Pansy taking the rear entrance and Fabian and Dora taking the front.
They entered silently, neither of them wanting to give away their position as they took in their surroundings. The house was quiet, almost too quiet and it only served to put them on guard even more.
Without a sound they crept through the house, clearing the downstairs rooms of any presences and traps, which there were shockingly little of for someone on the run.
After clearing the downstairs area, they met up with Fleur and Pansy. "All clear on your end?" Dora asked in a whisper.
"Yes, I think he's upstairs, hopefully still asleep. What's the plan now?" Fleur asked softly.
"You two lock down downstairs, we'll make our way upstairs to detain him. After that we'll start our investigations. Once you've placed your wards you can bring Gin and Luna in. we won't need to watch the outside when we have the inside locked down." Fabian said softly.
The two women nodded and smiled at them, starting to place wards around the mansion the moment Fabian and Dora crept upstairs, wands out and at the ready.
Soon enough they heard soft snores coming from one of the rooms, and not wanting to leave anything to chance, they checked every other room first before creeping into the room.
Yaxley was sprawled over the bed, sound asleep with seemingly not a care in the world, which made the two lovers smile before casting their stunners. "We've got him. I'll bring him to the Department and then I'll be right back." Fabian said softly.
She nodded and smiled at him. "I'll get the girls and get started on collecting evidence."
Fabian smiled and nodded before lifting the stunned Yaxley with a spell and then apparating away to the D.M.I.I. headquarters.
Appearing in his office a few moments later he cast his Enervate. "Wake up Yaxley, you've been busy it seems."
"Well, well, young Master Black. Still consorting with Blood traitors and Mudbloods I see. What's this all about?" He asked with a sneer.
Fabian smirked at him as he pushed him into the pen. "You're going to be good little Death Eater and tell us exactly what you and your buddies are up to and where the hell they are hiding."
"What makes you think I'm going to tell you anything?" The man asked with a sneer.
"Because we have ways to make you chirp, Yaxley." Fabian said with a grin as he pushed the man into the interrogation room. "He's all yours brother. I have to get back to help with evidence gathering." Fabian said with a smile to Draco.
"Mom and I can handle him Fabe. We'll get the information we need to know." Draco said with a smile.
Fabian smiled at that. "I'm sure you will brother, but do try and refrain from leaving marks. They might be a tad difficult to explain."
"Trust me brother, we will only break him mentally, not physically." Draco said with a smirk.
Fabian nodded and smiled at him before Apparating back to Yaxley's manor, being met by no less than five wands. "I come in peace ladies. No need to hex the boss."
They smiled and lowered their wands. "Sorry Fabe, we just wanted to be careful. We didn't know if something happened." Ginny said with a soft smile.
He smiled at her. "Nothing could've gone wrong Gin. I only Enervated him when we got to the Department and I was sure Draco was there to help if necessary, but Yaxley is still confident he is going to walk away from this."
They smiled at that. "I doubt that, we've found plenty incriminating evidence already. It's only a matter of time before we get to the bigger fish, so to speak." Dora said with a smile.
"Okay, what have you found so far?" He asked with a soft smile.
"Files mostly, but what's more interesting is the fact that we've found proof of several planned meetings with the other Death Eaters at Malfoy Manor, as well as evidence of deals that have been made with people inside the Ministry." Fleur said softly.
He smiled at that. "Good. We can take that information to Madame Bones so she can start investigating Malfoy Manor, while we will work to root out the Ministry workers."
The girls nodded at that. "We thought you might want to go that route, but I think we'll find plenty of information when we really start turning this place inside out, and that may change our strategy." Luna said with a soft smile.
He nodded and smiled at her. "Let's get started then. Let's all take a third of the house and go through it with a fine toothed comb. Luna and Ginny can take the main floor, Fleur and Pansy the basement and Dora and I will take the upstairs. Anything even remotely out of the ordinary is to be bagged and brought back to the Department. We'll meet in the kitchen every hour with progress updates."
Everyone nodded and dispersed through the house, all of them being laser focused on finding anything that could help them against the Death Eaters.

When they entered their offices later that morning the first thing Fabian noticed was how Draco and Narcissa were still working on Yaxley, several parchments stacked next to him. "I think Draco and Narcissa have been quite busy already. I wonder how well they've broken him."
Dora smiled at him. "I'm sure they'll let us know as soon as they are done with him, what I'm more curious about is what we're going to do now."
"Now we start processing our collected evidence. We'll do a debrief after lunch and once my aunt and cousin are done we'll call it a day. It was way too early for everyone." Fabian said with a smile.
They nodded at that. "Any particular system you want to use Fabian?" Pansy asked kindly.
"Ask Andromeda about that. She's in charge of our filing and clerical systems. I wouldn't want to upset my aunt knowing exactly where my girlfriend got her temper from." He said with a wink to Dora.
She quirked an eyebrow at that. "Don't act that like you haven't inherited your mother's temper love. You are very much like your mother sometimes."
He smiled at that. "I know, and I've never denied that, but first things first, we have deserved to have breakfast and to get out of this armor. I'll go and order us some food and inform Madame Bones that we have Yaxley in custody. Any preferences?"
"Just get what's easy Fabe. We're hungry." Dora said with a smile.
He nodded and kissed her softly before making his way to the Floo so he could inform Madame Bones of their success, and get breakfast for the Department afterwards.
When he stepped into the D.M.L.E. offices there were some funny looks thrown his way, mostly by the more experienced Aurors who didn't seem to understand why someone so young would have business here.
"What are you doing here Black? You lost?" A familiar voice asked as he made his way to Amelia's office.
He turned and quirked an eyebrow at the redhead. "What I am doing here is a bit above your paygrade Ronald. If this is about wanting to continue that petty rivalry we had at school, I suggest you drop it right now."
Ron growled at him. "Or what. In case you can't see, I'm an Auror and I suggest you tell me exactly what you are doing here before I will have you removed."
"Like you would have the authority to do that. You are not an Auror yet. You're a trainee. Now sit back down before you embarrass yourself. I have better things to do than to argue with you." Fabian said darkly.
"Is there a problem here Auror Trainee Weasley?" Madame Bones asked as she walked up to them.
Ron sputtered a little before he answered. "No Ma'am. I was merely wondering what Mr. Black was doing here."
"That is none of your business, Mr. Weasley. I have an appointment with Mr. Black and that is all you need to know. Follow me Mr. Black." She said with a kind smile to Fabian.
Fabian nodded and followed her into her office. "I'm sorry for that. I have already warned him not to say anything to anyone coming into the Department. He made a similar scene when your mother and Hermione were here a few weeks ago."
He smiled at her. "I know, they told me. I also fear he has learned nothing of the war and everything following it. We should both keep an eye on him."
She nodded at him. "I'll make sure to do that Fabian, but tell me, how did it go. Is Yaxley in custody?"
He nodded at that. "He is, and Draco and Narcissa are currently working on him. After that they'll hand him over to your Department, along with all of the gathered evidence. The arrest was extremely easy too. We literally stunned him out of bed after clearing the perimeter."
Amelia smiled at that. "I'm glad it went so well. The first time is always special in that sense, but remember that it probably won't be that easy every time."
"I know, but I'm pretty sure you will have a field day with the evidence we've collected so far, and of course the complete report will be delivered along with Yaxley once we're done with him." He said with a soft smile.
She nodded at that. "I look forward to reading the report, and I am also happy to inform you that our new cells are also ready for use. I have personally selected and created the guard schedules, so we know that another Azkaban breakout won't happen again."
Fabian nodded and smiled at that. "I have faith in that, but perhaps we should bring that particular thing up with Kingsley at the next Director's meeting. I honestly think that Azkaban as we know it has served its purpose. Most people who come out of there are mentally broken and will never be able to function properly again."
Madame Bones nodded at him. "I know, it's something I've been wanting to bring up for a while now, but with Fudge that never would have gone through, but I think with Kingsley at the helm I think we'll be able to make a case for it. Azkaban is a truly inhumane place that has no place in our new world anymore."
"That's why we need to work together on this. Kingsley will see the reason for it when both Directors of his Law Departments are pushing for this." He said kindly.
She nodded and smiled at that. "I'm sure he will, but we'll talk about this later. I will await the report on the arrest and everything connected to that with anticipation. I'm afraid I have a Department meeting to attend and lead."
"I understand. I promised to get lunch for everyone anyway, and I would rather not keep the majority of my family waiting. Especially since my aunts are sometimes a bit scary." He said with a soft smile.
Madame Bones smiled at him and led him out of her office and to the Floo point. "I happen to know that they're serving steak sandwiches today. I'm sure that will be enough to please everyone."
He smiled at her. "Thank you, I think that'll be exactly what we need. Have a good day Madame Bones." He said before making his way back to the elevators.

When he stepped back through their Floo an hour later, the entire Department seemed to be in high spirits. "Hey Fabe, you've chosen a great time to come back. We've just wrapped up the interrogation of one Corbin Yaxley, and he has been a true treasure trove of information. Andromeda is already hard at work to consolidate everything for the report." Narcissa said with a smile.
"That's great news aunt Cissa. I hope he didn't give you too much trouble?" Fabian asked softly.
She smiled at that. "Of course he didn't Fabian. Yaxley was never the brightest mind of the Death Eaters, and he gladly gave up everything he knew, but even with everything we have at our disposal, I doubt the truth of his statements."
"We'll let Madame Bones decide which ones are credible. It's our job to gather and supply the information, we'll let the Aurors deal with how they want to interpret it, although after my encounter with that idiot Weasley, I doubt if that will be much better than when we do it ourselves." He said with a soft smile.
"So you had a run-in with my idiot brother then?" Ginny asked with a smile.
He nodded at her. "Yes, he thought he could just try and bully me into telling him what I was doing at the D.M.L.E. office earlier, and when I told him that it was above his paygrade to know, he got pissed."
Ginny laughed at that. "I figured as much. He's been asking a lot of questions about my whereabouts too. He also seems a bit miffed that his little sister has a higher rank than him."
"Let him be miffed all he wants, as long as he doesn't get any bright ideas of getting in our way. Apparently he has already had an official warning because he did the same with Hermione and my mother, but let's not talk about him right now. There will be plenty of time for that the rest of the week. I've brought lunch for everyone, and there is plenty of it." He said with a smile.
They all smiled at that as the gathered around the conference table as Fabian put four bags filled with an assortment of foodstuffs for everyone. "Where did you get this Fabe? I thought the canteen would've shut by now." Dora asked softly.
"I went out to get these Nym. I figured we earned something special for our first official, not to mention successful mission." He said with a smile.
They smiled as they took something that took their fancy before digging in. "So, have you girls found anything interesting from the stuff we collected at his house?" He asked once everyone had their food.
"Not much yet, but I think fatigue plays a part in that. Tomorrow we'll be able to look at it with fresh eyes, so to speak. Today's early start has not helped us with being able to look for the little details." Pansy said softly.
He smiled at that. "I know, I was only wondering. Once we're done with lunch you're all off for the remainder of the day. We'll start processing tomorrow. I'll send Madame Bones a memo that she can come and pick up her new guest, but you guys don't have to wait for that. Dora and I can handle that."
"That's sweet Fabian, but if you don't mind I'll stay to finish my report. I want to make sure I've got everything to paper while it is still fresh in my mind, so if you don't mind I'll stay until it is done." Andromeda said with a soft smile.
He nodded at her. "That's okay Andromeda. I doubt she'll have time to do that now, so chances are that Dora and I will still be here until late this afternoon."
Everyone shared a look at that. "Then we'll all stay. We want to be different from the Aurors and that means we support each other at all times." Fleur said kindly.
He smiled at them. "Thank you. I'll admit I'm still a bit in Hogwarts mode in wanting to do everything by myself, but I promise here and now that I will try my absolute hardest to better myself."
"We know Fabe, I think we all struggle with that at times. The beauty of us working together like this is that we can help each other get better." Ginny said with a smile.
He nodded at that. "I know, we've all got things bothering us from the war and that it will take a while for us all to be healed, which I think is one of the reasons I was so quick to accept Kingsley's offer to head this new department. It is a way for all of us to get a measure of payback."
They all nodded at that. "You might be right in that Fabian. Merlin knows that we've all had our issues with those we thought we could trust."
"Yes, I think we'll start to see in the coming months what exactly Dumbledore and Riddle did to screw everything up. I have a feeling it's a lot more than everyone thinks." Dora said softly.
He nodded at that. "I know, the entire Wizarding world will be rebuilding for years now that it is all over, and as has been evident from what we've learned, not everyone will agree with these changes."
"We'll be the agents of change Fabian. At some point we'll have caught and tried all the Death Eaters, and that is when the true healing can begin." He said with a smile.
They all nodded and smiled as they ate the rest of their lunch in silence, all of them more than content to relax a little the rest of the day.

When Fabian and Dora were finally back in their room after dinner, Dora wasted little time in cuddling up to him as soon as they took a seat on the couch. "Gods I'm so glad to be home again. Today was a rollercoaster." She said softly.
He smiled and kissed her temple. "It has, but for now we'll have a few days of relative quiet at work, although I doubt the same could be said for home too."
