RWBY: Shadow Company

Chapter 18

The night is coming.

It took a while, but Frost and Leon had just managed to clean up her wounds from the fight. She has fallen asleep for now in Frost's sleeping bag.

She needed the rest.

They have settled in a small cave deep inside the forest.

Frost wipes his sweat off his face as he inspects his work. He nodded as he sat down beside Weiss, "Okay, I think she should be fine now."

His hands and clothes had Weiss's blood on them. They might need to get rid of the blood on the ground.

"She looks so pale."

"They might track us down with her blood." Said Leon. He removes his helmet and takes a breath. "It won't be long until they start searching for her."

"And until then, we'll take care of her." Frost takes a long sip from his canteen.

"They will come for her. No doubt, now that she's out of her cage." Leon continued as he lits a fire.

"How many do you think would come after her?" Frost asked him.

Leon shrugged, "I don't know. Hundreds, a thousand, maybe? It's going to be a challenge, for sure."

They knew that Weiss was at a huge drawback. They need to think of a plan and fast. Leon hands Frost a small device, "Oh, I found this on her. It's a tracker. These guys are smart."

Frost smirks, "But not smart enough, good find."

"Who would have thought hiding that in her dress was a good idea?" Leon laughed.

"You know, I might have a use for this."

"Do what you want with it. Good thing that those guys gave up the chase on us. I would have gone berserk on them in my beast form."

"I think it's probably best if you didn't," Frost said.

Leon's form was a sight to behold. It caused quite the stir when the public first saw him lurking near the villages.

"You think they cared if I tried to speak to them?"

"They're all be gone by then," They laughed. "But those guys, they probably try and kill you first."

"Good luck, that's all I can say to them. But, back there, that was a lot of fun I had in a while." Said Leon.

"Better than doing bounties? By the way, I heard that you left the shadows for a while. Do you mind if I ask why?"

Leon sighed, "It's personal, for me. I've wanted to find a certain someone right now. But I don't know where to look, and it's been years since then."

"Oh, so, you planning to start searching now?" Frost asked.

Leon looks at Frost, "Nope, not yet. I'll start when we get this girl back to her family."

Frost nods and chuckles all of a sudden.

"What?"

"Time flies, and you're no longer that lost boy when I first saw you came in. Letter in hand and tears in his eyes. Now, look at you."

"I was still troubled. If only those monsters hadn't come and ruined my life. And you were there for me during my training."

"I treated you like a son. I do that for all of the boys."

"Yeah, and the boys wouldn't stop joking."

"You are a son to me. And I'm proud to be that father in your life."

Leon cringed and rolled his eyes, "Alright, don't go soft on me now. Old man."

"You loved calling me that, don't you?"

"Why not? It fits you."

"You're getting old too. You're in your forties."

"But I can kick butt better than you."

"Oh really, you still look like a boy to me than a man right now."

They laughed at each other.

Their laughter died down when they looked at Weiss again. The sight of the poor girl brought a sad feeling to them. Frost clenched his hands into fists. Leon noticed.

He placed his hand on Frost's shoulder. "We'll get back at them for this." Said Leon.

Frost loosens up and nods.

"Well, if she's going to make it back to Atlas. She'll need more than just her, uh. Dagger, I guess. We might need to arm her up. Because one fancy shooting sword isn't going to cut it out here." Leon held up Weiss's weapon. It didn't have the length of a sword. "Nice design, though. Did she make this herself?"

"Yeah. Well, Weiss and her friend did. She designed it. And he did most of the assembly. That Arc boy." Frost said.

"Nicholas's kid? Huh, I didn't know he was a weaponsmith. Not bad, Arc." Leon nods. He sets it back down and starts to clean his guns.

"Well, I'm going to do a bit of cleaning before we rest. I'll take the first watch. And you should get some rest first."

"Yeah." Frost did the same. The silence was calming, the sound of the fire crackling. And the sounds of animals howling in the night.

Then a thought came to his mind, "You're right, Leon. She'll need weapons, guns, and we're going to teach her how to survive in this mess."

Leon looks at him and smiles, "I guess it's about time she grows up and be her own woman then, and this will be fun."

"Let's hope so. I had a feeling that it would not be easy."

They saw Weiss tossing and turning. Is she waking up?

"Jaune, no. You dolt." Weiss groaned in her sleep.

They looked at each other.

Nope.

/-/

Jaune was pacing around in circles inside the room. He couldn't contact Weiss for hours. He called Klein, but even he's not picking up the calls.

"Jaune, you need to calm down. You're going to make a hole in the ground." Said Will.

Milo sighed. He sat on Jaune's bed as he watched him. Knox was there too, much to his dismay.

"Why do you care so much about her again?" Knox asked.

"Because she's my friend." Jaune tried to call her again.

"Maybe she doesn't want to talk to you?"

"Knox!" Milo and Will said.

Jaune finally puts his scroll down and sits at his desk.

Knox puts his hands up in defense, "Look, I'm just saying. And it wasn't my fault that Jaune got in trouble in training today."

Jaune rubbed his head.

"Yeah, those guys from the Black Angels are hardcore. I wouldn't want to be the next one."

"What were their names again?" Jaune asked.

"Wolf and Greyhound. They were in charge of teaching us how to use our weapons." Said Will.

"But did you see those gauntlets? Those things could punch hard. I wonder when I'll get to use them. I bet Knox likes them too." Said Milo.

Knox scoffs, "I prefer blades. I'll never use those to fight a Grimm. Who fights with just their fists? Only an idiot would do that."

"But some of them are using it for that." Will looks at him.

"Yeah, but only if they ran out of ammo. It's not the first choice of weapon you'd use."

"I want to ride in a tank. That looks fun." Jaune said.

"I don't think we can ride that soon. At best, we can only ride the helicopters. It's a surprise that they don't let us. And tanks don't fly."

"I bet they can." Said Milo.

Knox facepalmed. "No, they don't, Milo."

"I bet we'll get to use a tank," Milo added.

"Come on, Knox. Stop being such a downer. Live a little." Will said.

Knox leans against the wall and looks at Will, "I'm still not your friend."

"Then why are you still here in our room?"

"I'm here against my will."

"The doors right there." Will points at the door.

"I'm not leaving Milo here with you two."

"Hey, I can take care of myself."

Jaune sighs as he listens to their little fight. He couldn't get the thought of Weiss out of his mind. He hopes that she is alright right now. Jaune couldn't leave if he wanted to.

He's stuck here.

"Still, I wonder which chapter we'll be in," Will said.

Oh, right. Chapters. Since they are in Vale, there are three of them. Jaune recalls, all thanks to Qrow.

"Not our problem. Milo and I will go back home." Said Knox.

"Aw, you're not going to miss me at all?" Will asked him.

"Highly far-fetched."

"And you two aren't going to stop anytime soon?" Jaune asked.

"I like where this is going."

"Kill me," Knox said.

/-/

Ares, Jon, and Qrow stood in front of the headmaster. Ozpin stands up from his desk and speaks.

Ares crosses his arms.

"It seems that we have a new crisis on our hands." Said Ozpin.

"Yes, and this new faction will be an issue for us if we don't stop it. We need to act fast." Ares said.

"They have weapons from Atlas."

"Any donors?" Ozpin asked.

"We're not sure, sir." Said Qrow.

"Get to it. See what you can find, Qrow."

Qrow nods.

"But what about Atlas?" Ares steps in.

"We're not going to do anything about it, I'm afraid."

"You mean we're not going to help them?"

"No, right now. We have problems of our own. And I need you to be on alert."

"Sir, their shadows are not up to standard. They can't do this on their own."

"Yes, and I noticed that."

"So why aren't we going there?" Ares asked again.

"Because I need you, boys, here. And I can't stress this any further."

Ares gave up and stood aside.

Jon steps in, "Ozpin, are you sure about this? It's not that I disagree with you, but this group isn't like the usual bunch."

"I'm sure, General. James himself has told me not to."

"What!?" Ares and Qrow shouted in unison.

"Jimmy said that?"

"The tin man said that?"

Ares and Qrow continued to complain in the background as Ozpin continued.

"Yes," Ozpin said. "So, as of now, we can't interfere with business at Atlas. For now, we need to stay alert for this Golden Company if they are to arrive in Vale. Am I clear?"

"Yes, sir." Said Jon, completely ignoring Ares and Qrow.

"Thank you. The three of you may go now."

Jon saluted and dragged the two towards the elevator.

/-/

"Those damn shadows! There were only two of them, so how did you lose to them!?"

"But sir, they ambushed us. They knew we were heading this way." One of the soldiers explained.

"Then you should have expected it if you know they would. Look at this! How am I supposed to report this to the queen now!?"

Roman and Neo watch from the side. "It's sad, Neo. Look at them. A bunch of fanatics is what they are."

Neo shakes her head.

"I did warn him not to do it."

Neo looks at him.

"Yeah, he's stubborn. I know. He's going to die if he keeps it up. I would pity the poor chaps, but I'm not on their side."

Roman takes out his scroll, "That Grimm bitch sure knows what she is doing. Even with her eyes closed. But at least Frost got her back."

Neo looks at the wreckage with awe.

"But, I'll admit. Those two can start a fight. An army of two."

Neo kicks a body over.

Roman sighs, "Looks like Frost and the beast will have to fight for the girl's life. It's going to be bloody. The show isn't over yet. Far from over."

Neo nods and claps her hands excitedly.

"And we've got front row seats."

End of Chapter 18

A/N: Yup. Weiss's training arc. And Frost and Leon get some backstory. Someone in the reviews mentioned it. So here's more of them.

Poor Jaune, at least Will and Knox are trying to mend their relationship. Milo seems to be the Nora of the team.

Roman and Neo don't technically work for anyone. So they get to do what they want and they are just enjoying every second of it.

Hope you enjoy this chapter. And, thank you for reading.
