Chapter 16
Pewter City Gym, Kanto Region:
After his battle with Shino two days previously Brock was fully expecting Ash to pull something shocking out of his hat too. Hiker Mitchel is once again officiating the match, and today happened to be the Gym Trainers day off so Ash didn't have to fight his way through them to get to Brock. This also meant that Brock hadn't been able to get a handle on Ash's battling style, or a slight hint as to what pokémon the Pallet Town Native was going to use. Battling Gary Oak had been annoying enough since he'd chosen Squirtle as his starter and had a female Nidoran as well. A female Nidoran that had been taught how to use Water Pulse and Iron Tail. Ash sends out Tentacool while Brock sends out his Geodude once more, " This will be a two on two elimination pokémon battle, with the only the challenger allowed to make substitutions. Challenger Ash Ketchem of Pallet Town has sent out Tentacool while Gym Leader Brock has sent out Geodude. Battle, begin! "
" Attract! Then use Water Pulse! " Ash orders immediately.
Brock swears under his breath at this move of Ash's. He couldn't call Geodude back to remove the Attract status, and he did not have a Red Flute either. This was one time where he really hated the fact that he couldn't switch out pokémon. Had he known about Ash's luck when it came to finding TM's other trainers dropped he might have been a bit more prepared, as Ash had looked up the gender of Brock's pokémon, and planned accordingly. Thanks to Geodude's ability of Sturdy he was still in it, but Brock hadn't thought to stock up on Full Restores, which would also heal status afflictions. He does use a Super Potion to heal Geodude up, and hopes to hell Geodude snapped out of his infatuation soon. Why did he have all male pokémon again?
Ash rolls his shoulders, " Toxic Spikes and follow that up with Water Gun! " Ash calls out.
Brock swears under his breath, he'd have to use an Antidote on Onix immediately when he sent him out. Why hadn't he evolved his Onix into Steelix yet? Steel Types were immune to Poison Types, which would mean Toxic Spikes would have no effect on a Steelix. It was not often he dealt with rookie trainers that actually did their homework. Since Geodude was still infatuated he wouldn't listen to Brock's commands and gets hit by the Water Gun which Ash follows up with Water Pulse once more, knocking Geodude out.
Ash recalls his Tentacool and sends out Butterfree while Brock sends out Onix. Poor Onix was poisoned immediately and once the next round is announced Brock uses an Antidote immediately and Ash smirks, " Stun Gust, and the follow that up with Sunny Day. "
Brock was quick to use a Paralyze Heal, but while he ordered the Dig attack for Onix, Butterfree was quicker in firing off Solar Beam. Brock had used the TM for Dig on Onix, and then face palms as he uses a Super Potion, and then orders Onix to use Protect to stop the Energy Ball Ash has Butterfree use next. " Rock Throw! " Brock orders, so very grateful Onix learned that one by gaining experience.
" Catch it with Confusion and send it back! " Ash counter orders.
Brock was extremely grateful for the Psychic Types the shielded Gym Leader and Trainer during Gym Battles. There was no way he would have been able to dodge those in time. " Onix, Tackle, now! "
" Butterfree, use Resting Gust! "
Brock figured out too late just what Ash had ordered, " Now, Solar Beam, once more while Onix is asleep! " Oddly enough Ash's father had given him Solar Beam, Sunny Day, Thunderbolt, and Energy Ball in TM form along with a TM Case.
" Onix is unable to battle, Ash from Pallet Town wins. " Hiker Mitchel announces.
Ash is given the TM for Bide, the Boulder Badge, and 1386 in Poké Dollars. Brock groans as he looks at him, " You...are a menace. "
Ash cackles, " Blame Naruko for nurturing my inner troll, and my Dad for passing on his Trolling Tendencies. "
Gary winces, he'd heard tales about his Uncle Red's Trolling Tendencies. His Ma may have tricked him once when they were younger, but Red actually got even with her. The Original Dexholders only discovered far too late that Red happened to be a passive aggressive Troll. He'd tally up all the infractions against him before formulating an appropriate response. His Ma, once she got over the shock, conspired with Red to gather up blackmail on several influential people. Red generally got his Trolling out by using pokémon at a Type Disadvantage. No one was stupid enough to think Pika couldn't kick the asses of all comers. Pika clobbered the Onix of Flint, Brock's father, as a new capture.
Red had earned his title of the Fighter/Battler for a REASON. His instinctive grasp on the battlefield around him and his unconventional method of battling meant that Gym Leaders learned to think outside the box, quickly. Gary had heard from his Ma that Team Rocket still feared to speak his name. Couldn't happen to a nicer group. Red had taken down their Kanto operations almost single handedly.
It was only when Brock takes in the Pikachu on Ash's shoulder that he realizes exactly whom his father happened to be. Though he was surprised to see Ash call out a Riolu after securing his Boulder Badge. Said Riolu settles on the shoulder opposite from Pikachu, and nuzzles into Ash, " The orange wearing blonde won a Riolu Egg, but didn't tell me what would hatch from said Egg. Of course, I can actually use Aura, so once my little girl here grows up she can teach me. " Ash says by way of explanation upon seeing Brock's questioning gaze.
Naruko grins, " I have insanely good luck when it comes to gambling, this includes contests that have prizes. I won a Heracross Egg for Shino, my brother in all but blood, Eevee Eggs for all three of us, a Kantonian Vulpix Egg for myself, and fleeced Professor Samuel Oak at poker to get the stuff trainers usually can't afford practically in triplicate. This includes Red, Yellow, and Blue Flutes. "
" I still can't believe I didn't even begin to think of asking you to help me get the harder to get items. Dammit, the Oak Arrogance strikes again, overrode the good sense I got from Ma. " Gary bemoans.
Naruko pats his shoulder, " There, there, I am going to be getting you all those things, and entering any contests you want to win, remember. "
Gary sighs at this, " I know, but dammit, you're practically my sister seeing as how Ma has basically adopted you. "
" Ash and Shino made the deal with me a while back, Gary. Shino already knew about my screwy luck. I am not looking forward to normal errands. " Naruko says.
" Agreed, your situational luck is inversely proportionate to your luck at games of chance. I'd rather deal with what should be life threatening situations, as your luck would keep us alive. Case in point, Lugia saving us from our instructor ordering his Magmortar to use Fire Blast on myself and my starter simply to break you mentally. " Shino monotones.
" You're kidding. " Brock says.
" He's not. Shino and I are originally from the Elemental Nations, and Lugia is my maternal patron legendary. Lugia saved us and then brought us to Pallet Town. I strongly suspect that the Aburame Clan will try to settle somewhere near Pallet Town once they decide to move, as Shino is their heir. Until our relocation Shino was my only human friend. Kuwa saved me from a Sceptile's Leaf Blade. Again, thanks to circumstances beyond my control I was turned into our village's pariah and scapegoat. " Naruko explains, " I have extended family in the Whirl Islands though on the maternal side as they emigrated, just in case. "
Brock frowns as he hears this, " Brock, I'd recommend catching some Geodude and calling Professor Kukui as Alolan Geodude are Rock/Electric dual types. " Ash says as a parting shot.
Brock grins wickedly at this, and resolves to do just that. His next challenger would be in for one helluva surprise, that was for sure. Gary has a speculative look on his face, " Kukui studies pokémon moves, right? "
" He does. " Naruko confirms.
" I'll be going through Mt. Moon with you. " Gary deadpans, besides, he might actually be able to catch a Cleffa or Happiny by hanging around his adoptive sister. He lets his driver and cheerleaders know his plans and they agree to meet him in Cerulean City.
Ash gets a surprise when a Delibird delivers him an Egg in an Egg Case with a Friend Ball on top. He smirks, " Remind me to thank my dad. I am so going to love having one of Snor's kids. "
" Lucky. " Gary says.
" Hey, catch a Ditto and maybe Kushina or Akumu would be willing to breed with it. " Naruko proposes to Gary, " Now, Shino, any more places that need a visit from me? "
" My allies found three more places. " Shino confirms.
" Right, Gary, you coming? " Naruko asks him.
Gary smirks and they set off, Naruko transforming into someone completely different, and Gary was quick to don a new disguise as well. " I suggest the rest of us take stock of our supplies while the pair get some sibling bonding in. " Shino states.
" After that I want to check out the museum. " Ash says, though he did give the Delibird that delivered the Egg a Wacan Berry, and writes out a quick thank you note for his Uncle Gold. He'd call his dad and thank him that way. Delibird agrees to deliver the note for Ash, and the three remaining trainers quickly go through their supplies, though Ash and Shino help Chalcedony out with hers. They also recommend that she have her camping gear checked out before she left. Ash gives his Tentacool a good grooming before sending her to the Oak Ranch, and switches Pidgeotto onto his active team by calling his Aunt Crystal. He also informs her that he has a Munchlax Egg on him on top of the Eevee Egg.
Crystal makes a note of that, and tells him to call her once the Eggs hatch so she could put the babies on his inactive team. Baby pokémon needed to stay with their human parent until they were weaned from soft foods at the least. She also knew Ash would cycle through his pokémon on hand too. Dunsparce would probably be with him for a good long while thanks to how she was callously abandoned in Viridian Forest for being born shiny. Ash's training of her for the moment was more akin to playing than actual training. Though Dunsparce had mastered Water Pulse. Chinchou would be sent to the ranch after the Cerulean City Gym Battle. Knowing Ash he would train his Pikachu up to be a speed demon and thoroughly thrash Surge that way. Surge was on thin ice with the League after his stint with Team Rocket, though what the Elite Four had pulled was even worse! Red had been saved by his arch nemesis as they had a common enemy at that point.
That was actually how he met Yellow officially, as he hadn't remembered saving a kid from a Dratini until Yellow reminded him, through Pika, and that Elite Four mess. The Elite Four had all made reparations for their actions, especially Lance after Giovanni schooled him. Though Blue, Silver, Gold, and Green never let Red live down how long it took him to actually make a move on Yellow! Pika had claimed his girl well before Red had, though Red had been highly oblivious when it came to male/female interpersonal romantic relationships for the longest time. Especially since his parents had hardly ever been around. He had to be given The Talk by Professor Oak for Arceus' sake! This meant that in retaliation for his parents never being around, Red's childhood home had been retrofitted, healing machines added, and he constantly was upgrading it. To be fair, after he found Vee he couldn't risk unscrupulous beings getting their hands on the form shifting Eevee until Vee trusted him enough to evolve into an Espeon, thus losing his ability to shift between Jolteon, Vaporeon, and Flareon.
Even Delia hadn't been able to fault the father of her child for upgrading his home with practical things by using his parents' money, especially if they chose not to be there for him. Delia and Ash both understood why he had left once Ash was actually old enough to remember him and he heard rumors to the effect that Team Rocket was reorganizing. Then again only the green members would be Stupid Enough to draw his ire their way. Not even Giovanni would piss Red off by messing with the man's children, he'd rather live thank you. No one wanted Red coming after them with both barrels blazing. To put it in perspective, Red was named an honorary Uzumaki by those living on Blue Point Island in Johto when one of them saw what he did to the moron that literally felt Yellow up in front of him when it was clear she was with him.
Gold had been in the area to pick up some more incense to get the baby forms of certain pokémon, and immediately whipped out a video camera to catch the whole incident on film before laughing his ass off. The original male Dexholders had already known that Yellow was off limits, but that incident cemented the fact that they had better damned well keep her safe if she or her pokémon couldn't get the horny imbeciles to Back Off. None of them wanted Red's ire and Trolling Tendencies turned on them. Red wouldn't hurt his fellow Dexholders, Public Humiliation on the other hand was not off the table.
Crystal cuts her musings short when she sees the amused look Ash on his face, " Thinking about how Dad's a force of nature when pissed off? "
" He's actually been named an Honorary Uzumaki when one of them saw what he did to that fool that felt Yellow up in front of him when it was clear she was with him. " Crystal deadpans.
Ash blinks at this, " I know they would probably adopt Auntie Green, but Dad never mentioned he happens to be an Honorary Uzumaki. "
Crystal cocks her head to the side, " Yeah, from what I've seen of Naruko they would adopt Green. She'd fit right in with them. I don't know whether to be amused or horrified by that. "
" Amused, since Auntie Green only unleashes her creative vindictiveness upon those like Team Rocket, or whomever is stupid enough to piss her off. " Ash says, " Later, Auntie Crystal. "
" Naruko's going to be immensely entertained by the fact her extended family named your father as an Honorary Uzumaki. " Shino deadpans as they set out to stock up on what they needed to get, which included Repels, as after a while Zubat would get very annoying in Mt. Moon. Yes, they were good for grinding up experience, but that was about it. Though they might catch one each, all depended. They would be catching Geodudes while in Mt. Moon so they could trade for their Alolan counterparts. Ash really wanted to be able to use an Alolan Geodude in Cerulean City just to see the look on the Gym Leader's face.
" We'll need to do research on the Cerulean Gym, we know it's a water gym, but not the kinds of pokémon that are generally used. " Ash says.
" This is a fair point. Before we challenge the Vermillion Gym we should head to Diglett's Tunnel as the Alolan Diglett are dual Ground/Steel Types. " Shino muses.
Chalcedony whips around to look at him, " I am so traveling with you three, and remind me to catch two Diglett. "
" Should I also mention that Alolan Marowak are dual Fire/Ghost Types while Alolan Cubone are still Ground Types? " Shino asks her.
Chalcedony smirks wickedly, " Right, I need to catch another Cubone then, and evolve it up into Marowak. "
" No wonder you gave Naruko a run for her money. You're just as conniving and devious as she is. " Ash deadpans, " Welcome to the group, and we are so waking your chakra up. "
" Agreed, which means we also need to get her started on basic self-defense. You'll need to catch one Fighting Type to spar with. That is quite simply the best way to get better at hand to hand combat. Why? Simply put your pokémon won't always be there to keep you safe. " Shino states.
" Who do we give the sixth phone to? " Chalcedony asks, she could get behind learning how to put horny Idiots in their places.
" Taking Naruko's luck into consideration, our Jonin Sensei. " Ash says, " Hey, Shino, think this Anko you mentioned would name Chalcedony her apprentice? She could get sent here on an information gathering mission, or even as a vacation, right? We did talk about this briefly when we were talking to Auntie Green, after all. "
Shino has amused buzzing coming from him, proving that even though there was no blood between them he was in fact Naruko's brother. " You are correct, Ash. I shall endeavour to make this idea a reality, if only to see the horrified looks on the faces of Konoha's citizens when they realize Anko has a minion just as bad as she is, only with a preference for Ground Types. Anko is a Poison Type specialist after all. "
Chalcedony grins, and then her eyes widen, " Nidoking and Nidoqueen are dual Poison/Ground Types. Think having one would increase my chances of gaining a sensei of my own? "
" It couldn't hurt. You can find both genders of Nidoran on the other side of Viridian Forest, and if you play Hoenn Sound in Viridian Forest you can catch Numel which is dual Fire/Ground. Shino could go with you and keep the Weedle line from bugging you. " Ash points out.
Chalcedony makes sure to stock up on the different kinds of Balls and looks at Shino hopefully, " Can you come with me to make it easier for me to get through the Forest quickly, and catch the pokémon I want? "
" Heracross needs more battle experience anyhow. I might as well kill two traitors with one kunai. I can help you awaken your chakra while we're expanding your team as well. Should Naruko and Gary return before we do inform them what we're doing, can you remember that, Ash? "
" Rotom, if I don't, can you remember to do so? Oh, can you all play the Hoenn and Sinnoh Sounds? " Ash asks.
" Not a problem, Azzzh. " Rotom answers for both inquiries.
Chalcedony smiles widely as her Rotom Phone confirms what Ash's had said, and she sets off with Shino after making sure her tent and sleeping bag were in good condition. Just in case they would need to camp out in the Forest. No way in Hell was Chalcedony going to pass up an opportunity to get a Numel this early. Numel happened to be Hoenn native pokémon, if playing Hoenn Sound in Viridian Forest netted her a Numel, then by Arceus she would play Hoenn Sound.
